They're adjoined with the Tryon Palace visitor center right there in downtown New Bern, so likely they're convenient for you. They have a decent, slightly obstructed view of the water but you can walk about 50 feet and be right on it. There is a large private parking lot, so no worries on that either. In general, the sandwiches there are darn good, and the few sides we tried (dill potato salad, and their pasta salad) were excellent. My reuben on marbled rye was straight up delicious, and you order yours based on how much meat you want on it. They use Boar's Head meats here, which while I think sometimes that is overblown, you can count on that level of quality. The thing though is this, it's gonna be a pricey lunch. They are full service, so count on tipping. Their prices for sandwiches are higher than what I'm accustomed to, even with my standards adjusted for the current life of everything be expensive that we live in in 2026. Chalk that up to waterfront dining and high rent I would imagine. In any case, if the sandwich didn't live up to the price, I wouldn't give it a 5. Tasted great, service was excellent, overall a very enjoyable lunch. Would return!

I highly recommend Dajio Restaurant. The meal was excellent. I had the blackened ahi on a salad. It was fresh and perfectly cooked. There's a decent but minimal selection of wines by the glass, and I went with a Sauvignon Blanc that paired perfectly. Most of the wines have good ratings by the major wine reviewers. Service was outstanding. The server had that classic beach-town ease (local or seasonal) but really knew the menu and did a great job. At one point, a woman who appeared to be management stopped by the table to check in. When she asked how things were, my answer was simple: "Incredible." The atmosphere is exactly right, relaxed but still polished, with just the right amount of energy without feeling crowded or chaotic. That balance is harder to get right than people think, and they've nailed it. I don't hand out compliments lightly, but this place delivers. Simple, fresh food, executed properly. No gimmicks, no shortcuts. This is absolutely a place you should try if you're in Ocracoke. I'll be back.

After arriving a few minutes early we were told it would be "a bit" before they could seat us. "A bit" turned out to be more than an hour and even then they sat us at multiple tables throughout the restaurant. After being seated, we were promptly ignored. Fifteen more minutes went by before our sullen, unpleasant server took our drink orders and eventually our breakfast orders. She was not only extremely slow and inattentive, but blatantly disrespectful to one member of our party by rolling her eyes and making gestures when she thought we couldn't see her. Once our order was placed, we waited then waited more. We had decided to leave if our food had not arrived by 12pm and go to Bojangles in Vanceboro, but at 11:50, over three hours after arriving, our food finally showed up. My omelet was enormous and overflowing with ground sausage. It was OK, but would have been better with less sausage. My shredded hash browns were cold. The biscuit that accompanied the omelet was cold and hard. My dining companion liked her french toast, but noted her eggs, though properly prepared over medium, were cold. Same goes for her home fries. However, the buttery syrup, served with her french toast, was served warm and was absolutely amazing. Wow! It made my biscuit edible and was the best part of our meals. The restaurant is attached to a hardware store in a rural part of Craven County. It definitely has a country vibe and was spotless. Incredibly slow and disrespectful service combined with OK-at-best food make it difficult to recommend Voder's Dutch Pantry in any capacity to anyone.

The server was attentive, but not overly friendly. The food was enjoyable; with the French Toast being the highlight. After the visit, I retraced my route and ventured into the lovely little bakery on Judges Road. This charming shop is loaded with gluten free goodies - breads, cakes, pies, pastries, cookies - and smells heavenly. Service is warm, welcoming, and super-informative. Have questions about gluten free baking? You've come to the right place. Need a GF dessert to feed a crowd? Ditto. Just want to treat yourself? Again, the perfect pit stop. Custom cakes are also available to order. It took a while for me to whittle down my choices for purchase. Ultimately, I opted for a fresh GF baguette and a lemon bar. On returning home, I cut off a piece of the baguette and had it with some salted butter. Moist, with just the right amount of chew, it was the first decent GF baguette I've had in almost 15 years. Later, my husband made cheesesteaks and served mine in Gluten Free By The Sea's baguette. Mwah! Chef's kiss! So good! (I usually have my cheesesteaks in a lettuce wrap, so this was a rare treat.) The next morning, I enjoyed half the lemon bar with a cup of Irish Breakfast tea. A winning combination of tart and sweet, it was a wonderful way to begin my day. Looking forward to my next visit already!
