The Beauty Boutique was like coming home after being away for a while! Incredibly hospitable , kind, and attentive. I work in the healthcare industry and the patient experience is so important to me! Maritza Almodóvar centered all of her service around my experience and the experience of my daughter despite being incredibly busy. This Salon is a Customer service role model! Additionally, as a Healthcare provider in times of COVID I am vigilant of safety practices. Beauty Boutique is taking every measure to keep community members and customers safe! Thank you! Been going to Maritza for 7 years. Fabulous with ethnic hair. I happen to be African American and I now swear by Dominican salons. She is highly trained also (Aquage) and uses good products. She could seriously jet down to Newbury Street in Boston and charge whatever the market would bear. Thankfully she is reasonably priced. I never do my own hair, that is how reasonably priced she remains. read more

Let me start off by saying I had virgin (never chemically processed) hair before going to the Beauty Boutique. I called on a Wednesday and had a lovely conversation with the owner Mariza. I explained that I have long natural hair and was growing frustrated with how long it takes me to detangle and wash it. She was super nice and answered all of my questions. I made the appointment for the following week, also on a Wed. Mariza was just as friendly in person as she was on the phone. I didn't have to wait to be seen. I thought Mariza was going to be the one working on my hair, but to my surprise, it was her assistant Vanessa. I would have given this review 5 stars had Mariza actually been the one to do the work. Vanessa was nice enough but I could tell she did not have experience dealing with my unruly hair. She started to use a very small comb to detangle my hair. When I asked her to use a wide-tooth comb, Mariza came over and started to help her with a bigger comb. To be fair, they did explain that in order to work the texturizer in properly, a fine tooth comb would have to be used. Mariza explained to me that because I had never used a small comb to detangle my hair, there was quite a bit of shed hair, especially at the root that would need to be removed. After about an hour of detangling (they tried their best), Vanessa began applying the texturizer. It appeared that the texturizer was working so we weren't so concerned about the hair not being completely detangled. I got a very nice shampoo and conditioning treatment from Vanessa. It wasn't until I was in the chair that we all realized what a tangled mess my hair had become because of it not being thoroughly detangled before applying the texturizer. My hair was a lot softer, so I can tell that the mild relaxer did accomplish what I wanted to achieve which was a softening of the texture, not a full-on relaxer. In this respect Vanessa did an excellent job. That is why I gave as many stars as I did because I plan on returning to her to do the texturizer. Overall, my experience was VERY good despite it taking 6 hours from beginning to end. We learned that when dealing with very coarse natural hair, it is very important to make sure the hair is thoroughly detailed before doing anything. I will make sure to stay on top of detangling my hair when I wash it on my home. First by using a wide tooth comb, then going over the area with either a Denman brush or a small-toothed comb. We also discussed washing my hair while it is in sections to avoid the tangled mess we got the first time. I'll come back and update this review to see if that helped. In conclusion, all the ladies at The Beauty Boutique are sweet and I definitely plan on going back there. If you are Afro-American/Caribbean and you have 4B/4C hair, this is a good place for you to try out, especially now that Mariza and Vanessa know how tangled our hair can get. read more

You got no life and all the time in the world? Then, go waste it at the salon! Mariza is talented but there is no such thing as appointment. I make an appointment and wait, wait, then while her and every other person working in the salon end up working on me and I literally spend 3-6 hours! I have tried going in the middle of the week but still I wait and she talks or the boyfriend comes around and wants to try to work on your head! Went on a whim and a yelp review. Walked in off the street with no appointment on a Saturday morning. (totally caRAZY, RIGHT?!?!?) Was majorly concerned about finding someone to handle my 6 year sabbatical from chemicals. My broken down nappy fro (if you can even call it that!) was in need of a fairy godmother. What I requested was somewhere between the 10th Doctor Who, Rihanna and Pink. I assumed that I'd walk out looking like a boy. After a light texturizer by her very polite employee, Maritza waved several magic wands through my hair and WALAHH - a short, neat, cute, appropriately feminine and professional do! There is no sitting around waiting for hours. They accept walk in customers, but I like to make an appointment, show up on time and watch them work their magic. I went here for the first time a few weeks ago, didn't make an appointment and was seen in 20 mins of arriving. I am really happy with the service i received, the staff were very nice and the cost was fantastic, compared to other ethnic salons i have been to, this salon was less than half price. Awful service, unless you know her personally stylist won't give you the time of day. I made an appointment for a simple haircut no blow-dry for 1:00pm on a Friday and wasn't spoken to until 1:30 when I asked the owner if I was going to be seen soon. I was told she was running "behind" (I've been here multiple times and there's only ever 1-2 people in the chairs). I was told to return in an hour or so. Once I returned I wasn't spoken to. I waited another 30 minutes until I ultimately just left. Awful way to conduct business. Y'all have been warned. read more

Absolutely love this salon. I have came here many times but never to fully dye my hair. I came in wantes to fix a horrible balayge i got done somewhere else. My hair always comes out looking spectacular here. Maritza and her staff are all pleasant and make you feel at home. She is magnificent with hair and really cares about her clients. Even the "Cosita" the chihuahua welcomes you. By far the best salon have been to and will not be leaving this place at all. I recommend all to come here! read more

Made an appointment to come in the following day for a color and highlights and needless to say I am very happy with the results. I took a chance in going here as I am new to the area and am glad that I did. One of the young ladies that work under Maritza, I believe her name is Lenny did a wonderful job in making sure I got exactly what I wanted. Absolutely disappointed!!! I scheduled an appointment a few days in advance for a very important event I told the girl when I called that I had to be some where at a certain time and she told me no problem they would take me right away and I was pleased with the appointment time given. The day comes.. when I go in and I get told rudely i have to wait that I have 4 people ahead of me that have been waiting?! Are you freaking serious!!!! I had to leave in a rush to find someone else that had opening!! I was so pissed off!! That is not how you do business!!! Also I'd like to add they are RACIST!!!! The couple times I've gone I noticed as soon as a white customer comes in or any of her clients from Andover comes in maritza will take them right away while others who've been waiting have to wait even longer!! OMG! It was such a disappointing experience. I went to this place 2 years ago for the first time and was disappointed in the quality of their service. I spent almost 3 hours their and the girl that did blow dry kept on going away and eating chocolates saying how hungry she was I decided to give this place another try again and i regretted it again. I waited 2 hours for my appointment this time, decided no to get a blow dry which would have taken another hour and finally when i got my haircut which took 5 minutes (cutting bangs took the longest) went home and examined what i had. My hair was unevenly cut, places were missed and it was pretty obvious that hair was not symmetric.This hair cut was only $25 but honestly even this seemed to be too much for what i got.
