Very deceptive business if one can call it that. You get spoken to like you're doing them a disservice for booking after being nothing but courteous. I had purchased a Groupon for them and they had already used the voucher before I arrived and had told me I was unable to use it because I was a bit late. I was very nice and apologetic and I mentioned I'd totally understand if we had to reschedule and had let them know in advance I would be late as some things are out of my control, and they were completely rude back. when I get to the salon, I was surprised that I had Sherylann, I have booked with loved the first time I had her do my hair. Since Sherylanne was the only one there other than the owner, I said it was fine and I would have her. She started out by telling me she had 47 years of experience, so not to worry. She was very friendly, and when my hair was blown looked OK. When I got home and washed and tried to blow dry it, I realized it was a total hack job! The hair in my crown of my head it's about 4 inches long, directly in front of that, the hair is about 6 inches long. Basically now I look like I have a mullet! I went to a salon the day after to see if they could fix it. They said the best thing to be let it grow out, because I didn't wanna end up with short hair. It pains me to write a review (never mind a not so great one), especially for a small business. I won't speak names, the sole purpose of this review is to warn anyone with curly hair. I do not want this review to come off bashing the business, especially because everyone was extremely kind, the salon clean, and the price was so affordable. The three stars reflects those details, not the service I was given. I got a Brazilian blowout at the beginning of June. This is the second one I have done at Planet Color and have had one done at another salon before. I do not think that I was given a Brazilian blowout, but rather a chemical straightening treatment. From the moment I stepped into the salon, I told several people of my hair type. Not kinky curly, but curly. When I style it, I use my Dyson Air Wrap to create bouncy curls. The main concern/wish was to be able to style it my "usual" and said I was wary of getting another after last year. Although it was straighter than normal and I still had a couple months of adjusting, it eventually started to wear off. This time around, the aftermath it is absolutely nothing like last year. I am currently battling with the last treatment I received so long ago. I have been patiently waiting for months for my hair to return to "normal", however I am finally coming to terms my hair texture/curl will most likely not return entirely unless I cut my hair short. I have creases about halfway down my hair that almost looks like where a pony tail elastic would have been. Per the directions given to me, they instructed not to wash, put your hair in an elastic, and be careful of how you sleep on your hair for several days (which I did). From the first time I washed it, the crease was noticeable. Fast forward to present day, it is still there. Additionally, the way the treatment is "wearing off" has been nothing short of a nightmare. While the the bottom of my hair is still stick straight (even w a curling iron, Dyson air wrap, rollers, etc), the hair at the nape of my neck is noticeably starting to curl but stops right where the crease is. The right side of my hair is beginning to be able to style curly, however my left is completely straight with an even more profound crease. My hair is currently very long and to cut all the way above the crease, would entail cutting of several inches and all the way to my shoulders. I really have never ever written a negative review, and I always give the benefit of the doubt when it comes to salons and (like I said earlier) small businesses. But I am finally at a point of devastation. It has taken me years and years to grow out my hair and I know now there is most likely no way to salvage 3/4 of my hair. I hope my curly haired ladies take note of my experience and think twice about what they hope their hair will look like right after their treatment and months afterwards. To the owner and salon workers, I hope you understand I am not bashing any of you or your business. I want nothing but the best for you all read more

Had a Brazilian blowout with Sherylann and couldn't be happier. This was my first time going to the salon. Went specifically as they were having specials on the blowouts (call for pricing). My hair is excessively curly and after the early June heat wave it was out of control. Sherylann is a seasoned professional, incredibly personable and sweet. Went in for a haircut and LOVED the look. I didn't get a crazy new style or anything. Just got it cut but the hair dresser did an amazing job, I believe he is the owner of the place. I forget his name (which is a common occurrence with me unfortunately). Was going out for a special celebration the next day so I went in just to get it cut. But he styled it so well after the cut that it even stayed until the next day. I SLEPT ON IT and it didn't get ruined. Just lightly brushed it before I left in the morning. The only negative thing is that he is very rough with the brushing. Every time he sectioned my hair or combed it to blow dry it I bet that I lost at least 50 strands. He pulled at my hair quite hard. Kept the blowdryer super close to my scalp so I would feel like my head was burning. I tipped him way more than I usually do in general because that's how happy I was. Technically I'd like to give it between 3 and 4 stars because of all the pulling, tugging and burning. But since that's not an option on Yelp, this place gets 4 stars. This is definitely my hair salon now. And SO reasonable! This is the perfect spot for me. read more

Came here a few weeks ago and was very pleased. The Salon is in a mill building. When I walked in I was greeted by the owner whom was friendly and checked me in. I came in on a new client special and got a blow dry and a mini facial. The woman who did my blow dry was nice and easy to talk too and my hair came out great!!! I visited this salon for the first time after reading all these great reviews on yelp. The salon itself is a bit gloomy and drab - it's underground, so there's not much natural light and the decor is simple and a little dated. I had booked my appointment almost a month earlier by phone, but when I arrived the receptionist acted as though they had no record of my appointment. I waited almost 35 minutes to be seen by Eric, the owner, who did my cut. Eric was nice enough and gave some styling suggestions as he cut my hair. I loved the way my hair looked when I left and made an appointment for the following month to get another trim. When I arrived the second time, it was like a strange deja vu experience. They had no record of my appointment or what services I had scheduled. Eric introduced himself as if we had never met before. As he cut my hair, I could tell he had no idea who I was and didn't even remember having cut my hair before. I really wanted to get the same cut he had given the previous visit, but he totally chopped my hair off in a very unflattering way. The worst part was that he trimmed up the hairs at the back of my neck with a men's electric trimmer that must have had a broken blade, because he actually cut my neck in three different places. My neck was scarred for weeks following this haircut and the spots that were cut hurt so badly that I couldn't wear certain fabrics, because the necklines were killer. This is just ridiculous. To make matters worse, after washing and styling my hair at home, I noticed that the cut was uneven. I had to go to another salon in Andover and pay an additional $55 to get it fixed, because I knew I couldn't trust Eric to fix it (he probably wouldn't even remember who I was). There are plenty of salons in Andover that offer a better experience, have a spa-like atmosphere, and are in the same price range (this place was no deal, by the way). I gave it a second chance, but I would never give it a third. Such a disappointment. read more

I was hesitant about getting a Brazilian Blowout, i wasn't sure it would be worth the money- but I decided to go for it and I am so glad I did! It was worth every penny!!! I have super thick, course, curly hair that takes me over an hour to blow out, after the treatment I noticed my hair was much shinier and softer, I let it mostly air dry and was able to blow it strait in 10 minutes :) Eric and Gina are both so talented. I always get the royal treatment and leave feeling beautiful!! This is the only place I go for my hair- I have been a loyal client of Eric's for 16 years!! read more

I've been going to Planet Color for 5+ years, as I was referred by a friend who works in Dundee Park. Eric cuts my hair and Jav shampoos it. I always get compliments from my Wife after my monthly cuts. My hair is as thick as a brick and usually in need of attention if I go more than 4 weeks, so I come home a new man from Planet Color. Great conversation and a terrific atmosphere. Watch out for the honeydew donuts on Saturday mornings- they are killers to the waistline! Love talking hoops with Jav, sports, kids & travel with Eric. Will not return. Went for a balayage cut and condition. Salon is located in a basement, very dark and drap. Was told by stylist she doesnt like to do balayage, even though they booked me with her knowing that is what I wanted and she proceeded to do a foil. My cut was nothing special. She never asked how I part my hair and never told me how she was going to color it even after I showed her what I wanted. She completed everything and showed me in a dark mirror. I was never offered to book a follow up or told when I should get a touch up. I got out to my car and I was horrified. My hair was brassy YELLOW. There were spots you could see the straight line if the foil expect the foil started 2 in from my head so it looked like grown out highlights. I was mortified. I had to have a toner service done else were to correct. Mind you the hair dresser never toned my hair while there even though I have very dark hair with natural under tones. I'll never go back to this place . They have no respect and loyalty to their customers. I have been going there for last couple of years. I bought a shampoo from them called NUMA which caused severe allergic reaction to my hair and I lost half of hair. I had go on the medication Propecia for hair growth. I was always very generous with tips as well. I did mention to the owner about the allergic reaction and requested to document that in my chart so they never use that shampoo again on my hair. In November I wanted some highlights and liked my hair color so I requested Eric to take a picture so he can do the same when I return next time. But in January when I returned his assistant started using the shampoo NUMA again. I immediately felt the severe reaction and asked him what he was using and then we put a stop to that. But damage wAs done already. Then Eric randomly started coloring my hair so I had to remind him about changes we made last visit. He tried to fix it but it ruined my hair anyway. Then I went to pay as a polite customer. I bought a couple of products and they totaled everything and I was asked to pay tip on that. I did as a polite customer and left. Then Eric send me questions how my visit was so I i replied I was not happy and the reasons. He said he will fix those next time. So i called a week ago as a loyal customer thinking people can make mistakes and can be forgiven. I was not given any appointment and was told he will call me an hour later. I never heard back. I had an appointment across the hall that day so I went to the salon after that Eric saw me and of course recognized me but just walked away. I thought that was not very respectful. I waited at the counter for a while didn't get any attention and left. I sent a text message to Eric about this but I never heard back. So if this is how they treat their customers then I'll stay away from their place. They owe me money as they overcharged me but they can keep it but I'll never go back and people who care about loyalty and self respect also should read these a second time and think an about it. Dont ever get your eyebrows done here! I asked for mine to be just cleaned up (no stray hairs, my natural shape) and the woman waxed about a third of each eyebrow and left so many stray hairs! Not to mention, I started getting dry skin around the area she completely waxed off which I have never gotten ever at any salon or spa! She didnt listen to what I wanted and just did what she wanted, and they came out horribly! read more

I have done everything from single process color to Brazilian blowouts and colorful hair extensions! I am constantly complimented by my family and colleagues. Eric, Gina and the rest of Planet Color are wonderful! They really listen to what I want to do and offer advice and explain any process. One thing I should mention is my mom and sister had a salon in CT for over 30 years. To say that this place ruined my hair would be an understatement. I have naturally very dark almost black hair. I started to get balayages recently and it took me a handful of times and a lot of money to get to the color I wanted. I bought a Groupon for a balayage and a cut and figured I would darken my hair a bit for the winter. Instead of a balayage I received a full hair color that looks awful. I never put heat on my hair, maybe once a week IF that. And my ends are completely fried and my hair won't grow. My entire life my hair has been healthy and grown quickly, but now my hair is 4 different colors, chopped like a mullet (legit the hair dresser said "looks like a long mullet") and completely fried. Totally ignored when I asked for long layers and gave me uneven bangs and like I said, a long mullet. Not one for writing reviews as I usually Am not bothered by these things, but my hair is ruined and I'm not sure what to do to get it back to the healthy, natural color and length it's always been. read more
