Returning after a couple years, I discovered that Beehive added a whole bunch of local Atlanta "stuff"...cards, coasters, prints, etc...great place to go for unique Atlanta specific gifts. I like the jewelry they carry made by local artists, especially the really delicate necklaces and adorable tiny earrings. I especially loved the gold fortune cookie jewelry and ornament line. The store is jammed packed with stuff so the walkways are narrow...so there is a lot of being patient and waiting for other patrons to finish browsing and making their purchase decisions. They do offer gift boxes and ribbon (at least they did around Christmas) for your purchases. read more

In an attempt to join the "crafting revolution", I asked for a sewing machine last Christmas. Sadly, after getting the machine, I found that I had no idea where to begin. A friend suggested that I check out BeeHive for lessons. I finally got the nerve in February to sign up for the Intro to Sewing class. I absolutely adore Deborah, owner of Whipstitch Fabric Lounge. She has made herself available to me any time I have a question or need any help with a project. Since the class, I have joined a Sewing Circle and even attended the Sewing Retreat. I also recently took the Intro to Embroidery class. This is the perfect place to take a class and/or pick up some delicious fabric!! read more

Overall, I am a satisfied customer of Beehive. Unfortunately, one of their designers, Olive Style, does not produce the made to order clothing that they promise. Sizes are different after production (the skirt fell off). After one month, with still no skirt, I requested a refund. I wish I could say it was a lone occurrence, but another friend had a similar experience. Do not order clothing from Olive Style unless they guarantee it will fit upon receipt. read more

The woman at the checkout was very rude and not friendly! When I asked to remove the price tags she seemed offended and asked me to remove them before she wrapped the stuff. She answered my questions in a hostile way! The place is mostly for gifts and the stickers should come off easily without tearing but they don't! I love the concept of this store and I think it is a very cool place with super creative things. The reason that I have rated it so low is due to my experience with trying to take one of its craft classes. The customer service has been absolutely horrendous. Of course, you pay for these courses up front and after that they treat your time as if it isn't important and never follow through with their commitments. I signed up for a candle making class and the day before the course was supposed to happen I received an email letting me know that the class was cancelled. And that I could choose to reschedule or get a refund. Since I am very interested in candle making I opted to reschedule. So I send the email to reschedule..no response. So I email 3 days later...no response. So I email the general info email 2 days after that...no response. Finally I call the store and was told that they thought they emailed me and that I can reschedule for a later date via email. So I set me new date and when I arrive for that appointment (30-40 minute drive from my home), Im told that the class has been rescheduled to 4 hours later and that an email went out saying this. Now I don't know if they have the most faulty email in creation or if they are just super shady...but I find it ridiculous that no one seems to care that paying customers are being treated as if their time is not important. She asked if I wanted to wait 4 hours for the class or get a refund. Clearly Im opting for a refund, but seeing as how unorganized and dysfunctional they are, Im sure this will be a long drawn out process. This place will never see a dime from me again. Ive never experienced anything like this before and never plan to experience it again. If you have an instructor by the name of Mari, expect for the time to change, to never get a response and to just generally be given the run around. read more

ok. the beehive is dangerous. the first time i randomly stopped by i literally went through the entire store and bought everything i remotely liked. there was such a huge variety of the cutest jewelry and little knick knacks that i could so see on myself or any number of friends - and everything is one of a kind so i did not want to miss out on it! the store is set up with little tables and racks each featuring a different local artist - all their wares are on display there along with their information and business cards - so browsing through the entire store, looking at all the items and people is really fun/interesting. prices are pretty reasonable for locally handmade jewelry that is very high quality, creative, and unique - probably pricing around what you would see at nordstrom the customer service is amazing - they will definitely stop by and give you a short introduction to each vendor/artist's background but still give you space to browse. they also offer a sewing class every so often where around 6 or so people bring their own sewing machines to a series of classes and learn how to use them and maybe start creating your own little wares - i definitely intend on taking this class at some point b/c i'm not even sure i can even sew on a button. you can see schedules and availability online, but be quick b/c classes fill up fast! i definitely walked out of the beehive with a lighter wallet but with no regrets b/c i literally LOVED everything i bought - you must stop by! read more

I discovered Beehive several years ago and the love affair began! The local designers are so ridiculously talented and the selection of handmade goods (jewelry, clothing, paper goods, and accessories) is so beautiful and unique. Beehive is the perfect place to buy an original gift for someone you love...or yourself! But, what I really, really love is all the sewing classes offered at Beehive by Whipstitch Fabrics. Classes like these are not offered anywhere else! A few years ago I began researching available sewing classes in town. I felt the classes offered at the 'mega' craft stores only focused on projects and those projects were not modern or hip (a fleece vest, a fleece robe) and also they didn't offer any classes convenient for people with a day job (the last class of the day began at 5pm). Then I discovered the Beehive classes. Oh joy! Modern projects for hip sewers--not dowdy granny projects! And, evening classes that begin at 7pm. After the very first session of Sewing 101 I couldn't have been more thrilled. The underlying philosophy of these sewing classes is about the fundamentals of sewing and construction. You do leave with finished projects but the classes aren't about the finished project. They're about all of the elements that go into that particular project but can be duplicated in many applications (e.g. how to make something lined or reversible, how to install a zipper, how to make pleats, darts, make something gathered, make bias tape). My instructor Deborah was so fantastic that I have taken several more classes from her over the years, each class better than the last! This past weekend I attended the first annual Whipstitch Fabrics sewing retreat in the north Georgia mountains and it was the most fun ever! read more

Not only is the crafty pieces wonderful, they also sell the best damn cupcakes made in Atlanta - bar none!!!! Bought 12 because of a on-line coupon deal, took them to NYC and they were a major hit for Thanksgiving. Keep thinking about them, so I will call tomorrow to order another dozen.
