A Brand Slowing Dying... I'm DONE…read more I will NEVER dine at another Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux. Another dining experience that was below acceptable standards. The last time I dined at a Walk-On's Bistreaux was on Friday May 13, 2022, at the Town Center location in Baton Rouge. After an extremely bad and poorly handled customer service experience, I vowed to NEVER dine at Walk-On's again. Going against my better judgment, my wife and I decided to give the Denham Springs location a try. We arrived around 8:45 PM, The restaurant was not busy, and we were greeted immediately upon arrival and seated in the bar area. Our server was prompt, friendly, very knowledgeable about the menu, and presented herself in a professional manner. We started with the Boom Boom Shrimp which is fried shrimp with boom boom sauce. There were plenty of medium sized shrimps perfectly fried but lacked seasoning and flavor. Even the boom boom sauce was bland. For our entrees, we each ordered the Catfish Orleans; one with blackened catfish fillets and one with fried catfish fillets served over white rice, topped with crawfish étouffée and hand-battered shrimp. I was expecting some good hot authentic Louisiana blackened and fried catfish and etouffee, instead we served lukewarm dishes that lacked flavor. The entrees did not have enough rice to complement the amount of etouffee sauce that covered the plate. The fish and fried shrimp tasted ok, crawfish etouffee was NOT good and did NOT look or taste like a Louisiana crawfish etouffee. It was bland, flavorless, and only had three extremely small pieces of crawfish. The entire dish was below average and did not come across as a Louisiana favorite. When our food arrived delivered by a female employee who seemed to a member of management, I asked for some hot sauce. She brought us two nearly empty very UNSIGHTLY, non-eye appealing bottles of Tabasco sauce and stated, "I hope this is enough". How there you insult our intelligence and why would you serve that to paying guests dining in your restaurant? Those bottles should have been trashed and NEVER been in circulation. (See photos). My wife also had the Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae which she said was hot and very good. After eating, I decided to visit the men's restroom. It was very dirty, disgusting, and seemed like it hadn't been cleaned all night. (See photos). I wanted to throw up after seeing the restroom and realizing I had just eaten in this restaurant. If I had visited the restroom before ordering and eating, I would have left immediately. In my opinion, a dirty restroom is a direct reflection of poor management and a relaxed staff with little to no standards. I don't mind paying for a good meal and a good dining experience, but this mediocre at best experience was NOT worth the $80 plus we spent. The food was NOT good, and the service was slow considering the restaurant was not busy. Very disappointed and a missed opportunity by leadership to win me back as guest. We arrived at 8:00 AM on Thursday and was surprised to find this restaurant was nearly empty with only a few locals having coffee and engaged in a conversation at the bar. The friendly staff greeted us and we seated ourselves at a high-top near the front windows, we both ordered their freshly brewed iced tea while browsing the menu. We wanted to eat and run so we both ordered pancakes and I got a side of bacon - the pancakes were just okay and the bacon unfortunately was cold like it could of been sitting for awhile but it is what it is and we were in and out quickly and our server Whitney brought us each a iced tea to go which was very nice. Nothing bad here but also nothing memorable except how empty the place was at breakfast time in an area that was busy. The restaurant is located on the end of a strip mall a little off the beaten path so that may explain it, we probably wouldn't return just based on the food quality...

The parking lot has adequate spaces. The restaurant looks like it has enough seating for a good bit of customers. We had a party of approximately 15. We ordered several appetizers and entrees. The appetizers came out fairly quick. I didn't take a picture of it but we ordered the boudin egg-rolls. EXCUSE ME?? WHAT? YES!!! That good! Get them! I would've gotten them as a meal with a salad had I known! So good! I was intrigued by the muffuletta pizza so I ordered it on the cauliflower crust. Pretty good! Several people ordered the ribeye and said it was good. Nice size and it comes with a salad and another side. That is still a good deal in my opinion! Our server was really attentive. Sometimes when a restaurant is busy and the server has to wait other tables the people in the private rooms get forgotten. Not this time! They were great! We will go back if we are back in the area! Cheers!

There are several large flat-screen TV's usually tuned to football or baseball, so it's a great place to catch the game. Thursday and Saturday nights also have karaoke, which is my favorite. Adam is the regular karaoke dj - he's great! The bartenders and management are all friendly and know what they're doing. It's a bar filled with regulars and they know almost everyone by name. Being a bar I guess I should cover the drinks - they have all the standard domestics, several on draft, a few Louisiana beers and a few imports. Decent selection of liquors for mixed drinks, very small wine selection. I think most folk could get the drink they're looking for as long as you're not expecting a craft taproom or fancy whiskey bar. It's a straight bar - so no food. But if you're hungry there's a Pizza Hut and Greek and Chinese restaurants all within 100 yards. You can call in your order, have it delivered to the Tiger or just walk over and pick it up to bring back. Just ask your bartender - they have the menus and phone numbers! There's not much to complain about, but to justify not giving that last star, I'd say it's sometimes too crowded, especially Saturdays. Ideally they'd have about twice the square footage and another 15' or more of bar. Things are a little awkward now since EBR banned smoking in bars too - there's not a well-planned option for smokers like a deck with a bar so there's a lot of in and out the front door for smokers. The smoke free barroom is a nice development but also an inconvenience to the many smoking customers. I notice the Yelp profile for here is quite old. Ownership changed after the Great Flood of 2016 and I think the bar was pretty much gutted and rebuilt, so the profile really needs to be updated.

I literally lost my appetite after I took a bite of shrimp in their Eggplant Supreme dish. Never in decades of eating out have I had an establishment serve me what I got tonight. The shrimp had a big shrimp on top of the bite that I took, under it were several smaller shrimp, completely dry, stuck together. And they ... crunched. I spit them out, they tasted like dried, week old shrimp. Simply awful. I love a night out for dinner but I literally lost my appetite. The restaurant response was as bad. The waitress took the plate. No apology. Nothing from the kitchen other than, do you want something else? City Cafe must have way too much business to serve a dish like this and not say a word back. I'm not a shrinking violet but damn, a simple sorry might have been nice.
