My graduation was on May 16th and afterwards we had already booked a reservation here for 25 people! I have been here several times and it is one of my favorite restaurants in Baton Rouge for great flavorful food. The food was amazing and great. For an appetizer, I had a dozen of their chargrilled oysters. You can see the smoke and smell them cooking them on the way in. They have this amazing butter sauce packed with tons of flavor and it is served with their French bread to soak up that butter! Some other appetizers we got were their fried eggplant with marinara sauce and their buffalo wings which are so good. For my main entree, I got their blackened shrimp pasta which was seasoned well and came with garlic bread. My twin got their hamburger steak and it was delicious. Some drinks I got for the night were their old fashioned and their Long Island iced tea. The ambiance is nice and perfect for a family outing or to celebrate graduation in my case. This will always be a restaurant I will coming back to. The service was great and Chance was amazing the entire time accommodating our large party! Thanks so much. read more

My bestie reserved this place for a small baby shower. Nice space for an intimate gathering with minimal decorations. The servers were great and super helpful. Mimosas were ordered, those were pretty good. Then it was time for entrees. I order the Chicken Breaux Bridge that was described as a Seafood stuffed chicken breast, wrapped in bacon, on a bed of angel hair pasta covered in a crawfish cream sauce. My pasta was was covered in sauce but no crawfish in sight. Our server went to the kitchen to get me some of the correct sauce. Even still it was a bit bland and the bacon could've stood a few more minutes cooking for a crispier texture. My friend got a steak that she said was horribly bland but she ate it anyway. Wouldn't say this place is the worst but they just need a lil more seasoning in their lives. The onion rings and corn maque choice were bomb though. read more

It's a bad setup that I wouldn't recommend they continue, especially on a day as popular as Mother's Day with lots of elderly families trying to walk back and forth. Yall. This place is so good. I'd seen it for years but never went. It's very pretty inside and decorated in an upscale cafe kind of style, yet still made for a very cozy and comfortable environment. I only got pics of two food items because we scarfed everything else down. My favorite was the NOLA chicken sandwich. My lord. Yall the bread was fantastic, the chicken was crunchy and juicy, and it just was the perfect sandwich. That sandwich is why it's a 5/5 I'm telling you. Chicken parm was super yummy too as well as both of our apps. But in my mind that chicken sandwich is the real winner. City has really easy parking, a good sized patio and bar space in addition to their restaurant. It was a favorite of mine in 2023 when I lived in BR. I've since moved away and was excited to swing by here when I was back in town for work and it did now disappoint. While service was a little scattered and slow, the chicken wrap was delicious. It's got a great balance of meat to veggies and sauce. I get the sweet potato fries because I LOVE the house made honey mustard. It's got a good balance of sweet and tang. The chargrilled oysters were clean and cooked well, but they had a bit too much lemon zing for me. The lunch special portion was just enough for lunch. The seafood gumbo was extremely flavorful with a little kick, and I would definitely order it again. The shrimp and crab bisque was amazing -- the kind of soup you want the recipe for. I had the NOLA fried chicken sandwich. It was good, but not very flavorful on its own, so I had to doctor it up a bit. The fries were good, especially with ranch seasoning and a little drizzle of Tony's. Our bill was about $28 per person including fountain drinks, which felt fair for what we got. We sat outside and even though it was packed, the service stayed friendly and fairly quick. Overall: 4/5. I'd definitely go back, especially for the gumbo and bisque. read more

The restaurant was packed for some odd reason so I decided to do curbside pickup even though I ordered in the parking lot. The curbside waiter was swift energetic and he was polite. Been going here for literally years! Always love the fast paced service, though the noise can get loud at times, the best time to go would be for lunch, when it gets to dinner that's when it has the opportunity to be really packed. I got one of my favorite staples, the hamburger nachos, though I don't always finish it, it's a great meal to share with others at your table. read more

Tried 1/2 a fried shrimp poboy with cup of seafood gumbo and both were good. I'm particular about shrimp and both the shrimp and batter were perfect. They use NOLA made Leidenheimer poboy bread. The gumbo was pretty good too.. reminded me of the old Piccadeli gumbo. I'll be back to try the weekly lunch specials which appear to be a great value. I asked the waitress for a taste of the gravy used on the sliced roast beef poboys, just to see if it was the NOLA style I've been craving. It didn't have much flavor though. All in all, I enjoyed the food, it was served quickly and the bar had a nice atmosphere. Noticed the nice sized patio for future reference.. needed the a/c today and it was appreciated. This is for the downtown BR location. My husband and I paid for parking (which was expensive) to have a date night dinner at City Cafe, however the service was disappointing from the moment we walked in to the hostess counter. The hostess was running back and forth appearing she didn't know what she was doing. We stood in line for about 15 minutes, noting that the two customers ahead of us had a party of 14 and the next 17 people. When we asked for a table for 2 she said it was going to be a 45 minute wait, because she just had to seat those large requests. The manager came to the desk and said the previous guest had reservations, although, I heard the hostess ask the party of 14 and the lady said no. My husband and I decided to leave and go to Louisiana Lagniappe, which we had a wait there but it was well worth it. * I know that Louisiana Lagniappe is an upscale restaurant and shouldn't be compared to City Cafe. read more

Grilled oysters are among the best ever. The salad with fried chicken has dressing that is truly "drinkable ", can only be made better (for me) when you substitute fried shrimp for chicken. The wait staff are always courteous and prompt. You are very likely to meet the owner, he makes his rounds and is clearly concerned with and proud of his business. read more

Well, I was craving the fish tacos again from pickup and today they were a miss. No pico, taco shells were hard, beans and rice were cold. Tacos were pretty much a mess. The whole meal was not good. Great, local restaurant and bar for the south end of Baton Rouge. Always a pleasant experience. I've tried their delicious salads, poboys and sandwiches, specials on the menu including shrimp and grits, and have yet to find anything I don't love. They have a couple nice private room options for larger parties and a wonderful outdoor patio. Quickly becoming my favorite restaurant in BR. read more

Came out here for lunch with a large group of family and friends. They were king enough to seat us in a separate room for privacy. Our server was Heather and she did an outstanding job servicing a group of 14 people. She took our orders timely and made sure we all received our orders as made. Good food consistently. During crawfish season this place is packed with customers. The boiled crawfish are always tasty. I have been to this restaurant many times. Usually with small or larger groups for birthday or similar celebrations. I have never gotten a meal I didn't like. The brunches are good but We usually go for dinner. I have never seen this place when it was not full of customers. Apparently We are not the only people who enjoy dining here. It is not a large place but there is a room for bigger groups. There are many selections of seafood on the menu as well as steaks etc. I love the eggplant dishes. The lunch menu has several good selections. You will not leave hungry. The "catfish atchafalaya" seriously lacked seasoning in the etouffee sauce. They covered catfish nuggets with etouffee sauce, leaving them soggy and lacking flavor. I asked for a piece of catfish separately after just to have something I could eat , and was charged for that as well, again catfish nuggets clearly frozen from a bag. While the chargrilled oysters taste good, 3/6 were so small, mostly cheese and seasoning for $16! Won't be back. read more

Small back story i live by in the nearby Shenandoah subdivision and eat here pretty regularly. I ate here this evening with my wife and the food was good, our server was great, but the atmosphere was a negative star. There was an elderly looking female demeaning servers and overall just being rude to other customers. I had an issue with my food it tasted like it had gone bad and told my server about it and that i wanted to speak to a manager. My server left and came back and they informed me that elderly woman was there manager "MONIQUE". MONIQUE would not come speak to me. I asked the server if theyd remove my food because two bites didnt equal me eating it in my eyes. The server told me MONIQUE doesn't remove items and that the server would have to pay for it. That made me so mad not because i lost $20 but because that violates so many labor laws towards the server. I apologized to the server for causing them trouble boxed up my "food" and ill feed it to the dogs at home. MONIQUE Needs to be fired and given a reality check mam i hope you see this just because your old doesn't mean you can treat people like crap. I hope your bosses see this and make you do proper training or terminate you. I probably wont come back here because that woman is just disgusting. read more
