Knowing that L&L Bakery is a family business run by a mother and daughter made the experience feel even more special and personal. Our wedding cake turned out absolutely beautiful and was exactly what we had asked for. It looked amazing and, most importantly, tasted incredible! We also loved having a variety of cupcakes for our guests to choose from, and everyone absolutely loved them. There was something for everyone, and we received so many compliments on how delicious everything was. She's so smart and knowledgeable! L&L Bakery is a quaint, cute, clean, bright place with appropriate decor, efficient, polite service, and delicious, beautiful food! There were about six flavors of cupcakes available, along with some cookies and chocolates. The cupcakes come in three sizes: mini for $1, regular for $2.50, and large for $5. However on my first visit there were no minis available, and on my second visit the minis only came in one flavor. Carol mentioned that she'll be having one special cupcake every day, and from what I can tell that one will be the large. The first cupcake I tried was the daily special... a sweet potato cupcake topped with toasted marshmallows and walnuts. I loved the sweet potato cake, but I think I would have preferred a cream cheese frosting over the marshmallows. Also it didn't wow me enough to be worth the $5 price tag. On my second visit I had two of the regular size cupcakes. One was a half chocolate/half vanilla cupcake (cutely named something like "can't make up my mind"), and the other was a creamsicle cupcake. Overall I've found the cake to be perfectly moist, and the frosting nice and sweet, with a good balance between the two. The only improvement I'd suggest is more pronounced flavors, as I couldn't really taste much orange in the creamsicle. But I am glad that Carol is being inventive with the flavors and not just sticking to the usual chocolate with chocolate, chocolate with vanilla, vanilla with vanilla, vanilla with chocolate, etc. To be honest, in a larger city I don't think Carol's Cake Designs would last against stronger competition. But it's a wonderful addition to Ferndale and I have a feeling I'll be stopping by pretty regularly.

On the third try it was opened, We ordered a birthday cake for my niece. Carol talked a good game about her special fondant, but in the end it was a major disappointment. We spent three digits on this cake, but you would never know it. The stripes on the cake were not the same lengths. There were patches in the fondant. Patches!! The special fondant was so super sickly sweet as to be in edible. It was just so immaturely decorated. We didn't even bother taking a picture of it. My niece didn't want a permanent reminder of how bad her birthday cake looked. We won't be back.

My sister asked if she could have her Reese's ice cream modified to include the mint flavoring from the mint cookies and cream, and they were able to do that for her. There were plenty of vegan and gluten free options as well. Nice kids play park just outside and a riverside area to take a stroll while eating ice cream. Plenty of seating options inside as well. I got the strawberry cheesecake ice cream rolls. They were terrific. Perfectly creamy, and the freshly ground in graham crackers added a nice texture. It was very rich but not overly sweet, and made for the perfect after-dinner treat.

While out exploring Bellingham, my friend wanted Ice cream, and this came up as nearby - so off we went. Right within Waypoint Park Cryo rolls is part of a complex. The two young ladies eagerly greeted us and our pups as we came in and explained to us how it all worked. We picked from the available flavors and asked if we liked toppings added. They were very nice about accommodating and customizing for my friend who is vegan. I went with the "Trix" which was exactly how it sounded...and tasted! If you've ever had a bowl of trix and the milk starts to taste like the cereal as you're eating it, that's exactly how this tasted. It was great. Took me back to childhood. They were also kind enough to hook us up with some "pup cups" for our little guys which they definitely enjoyed. What I really like is how well the ice cream holds. It was pretty warm out and I was able to give my pup his pup cup and was able to eat my ice cream without it melting out. If I'm up here again, I'll be sure to stop in hopefully the Trix will remain a main offering.
