I like The Bent Lens a lot. Dr. Torrey takes extra time to explain everything to you and lets you see the different levels of clarity with each lens. His office does not constantly pressure you to buy the more expensive glasses and contacts, which I commend. Oh, and he wears glasses himself. And kind of looks like Danny Gokey from American Idol. Let me preface this by saying that I do not wear contacts, and I do not wear glasses. So why did I go to an eye doctor? Because I signed up for eye insurance for the first time this year, and thought that I should use it. I always see stories on the news/internet about all the diseases that ophthalmologists can detect by looking at your eyes. So I hunkered down and found a place close to my work. The Bent Lens has great hours, especially if you work in/around the downtown area. It also has a great location, smack dab in the middle of Larimer Square. Dr. Torrey is wonderful. He makes the whole process of an eye exam super easy (and super fast). He explains every step that he's doing so that you know what kind of weird things he is doing to your eyes. He doesn't try to sell you stuff you don't need, which is very relaxing and put me at ease. I walked out happy and tranquil (which typically doesn't happen when leaving the doctor). My peepers feel great, and I can gladly say that I don't have any of those weird eye diseases they always talk about on TV (glaucoma, hypertension, herpes of the eye? No thank you). read more

Get all your optical needs here! I don't know about you, but I'm not incredibly fond of other people near my eyes. Dr. Torrey and front man, Brad, really made me feel at ease. They have an AWESOME selection of spectacles from sleek and modern to ultra funky and hip. I went in one day to look around and found a great pair. Going to the eye doctor has never been easier! I just told Dr. Torrey that my insurance was VSP and filled out one page of information and I was good to go. Throughout the exam he explained what every procedure was for and how my eyes were according to the test. I just picked up my second pair of eyeglasses here, and I can't recommend Bent Lens enough. They carry many different styles, and the brands you see here are unique to their store. I looked at those online sites that promise to find you the right pair, but I wasn't impressed by the quality or the limited selection. Trust me when I say that Linda will find the perfect frame that suits you and only you. I had tried on a pair of Seraphin frames in a brown color and thought they looked ok but wasn't 100% sure. Linda ordered them in another color for me to try out just in case. She was right once again, as she helped me pick my FIRST pair 2 years ago. I have had so many compliments on my new glasses, all thanks to her great eye (no pun intended.) Dr. Todd did an eye exam for me, so my prescription was updated and he explained every step in detail. He told me my glasses might take about 7 days, and they were ready in 4. I had my exam on a Saturday morning and they came back from the lab on Thursday. First I just have to say that Dr. Torrey's place has the best selection of frames around. It is a great place to find really unique lenses. My husband has a horrible time finding frames that work well with his face and Dr. Torrey has an instinct for the fitting the frame to his face and has picked out awesome and unique frames that my husband loves. Frames aside Dr Torrey is extremely patient and caring during eye exams. We bring in the whole family for checkups and our kids actually enjoy their trips to his office. The shop has a good selection, fair prices, and the service is very good. Linda is very experienced and it shows in the service. 5 years later and I still agree with my initial review: Dr. Torrey is amazing! Like all the other reviews indicate, this is definitely the place to go. I was hesitant at first given the posh location, and figured this office would be elitist and pushy. NOT at all the case, Dr. Torrey has that small town doctor feel, explains everything in detail that makes sense to everyone without sounding condescending. There were no problems with insurance, both Dr. Torrey and his assistant Linda were 100% capable of calculating my co-payment, hence no nasty post-insurance bill. I never expected to find an optical shop like this when I was first looking for new frames a few years ago. After looking at another shop off of 16th Street - where I was told everything I tried on looked "great" - I wandered into The Bent Lens. Linda gave me an honest assessment of frames I had selected, telling me when certain ones were too big for me or didn't sit right, rather than raving about everything I tried on like the other store did. I found a brand that fits very well for me and offers a lot of fun, trendy styles. I ended up buying two additional styles of the same brand, and I get compliments on all of them all the time! Customer service post-purchase has also been excellent. With a slight change in my vision from 3 years ago, I am now getting new lenses in all of them. The first ones seemed a bit off, so they remade them at no cost to me, and Dr. Todd did an exam at no charge to make sure the prescription I received from my ophthalmologist was accurate.
