Very friendly staff. We were greeted immediately upon entering. We were asked what kind of bike we were looking for and went from there. We worked with Scott - he was beyond friendly and knowledgeable. We looked at a few different models and styles. Scott let us ride 4 different styles outside to see what we preferred and went over the pros/cons of each style. The bike we wanted had a button shifter (excuse my lack of correct terminology) but wanted a throttle that shifted. We were connected with the bike shop mechanics in the back and we able to get a quote to change out the shifter to a throttle. This place has to be one of the best bicycle shops in Alaska! Went into the shop and was immediately greeted by one of the workers at the counter. Usually come to this place for any biking needs. Went in and saw the huge inventory of bikes. Most of the bikes on display were a little bit small for my sizing. The workers helped find the perfect fitting frame for me. Was able to go in and test a bike that was already assembled. Asked about another model in stock. The workers were kind enough to put the bike together within an hour for me to test ride the bike. I have been a loyal customer of The Bicycle Shop almost as long as I've lived in Anchorage ....and that's a long time . I was happy when they opened their second location closer to my home . I feel like it's just an extension of their Northern Lights store . The staff is friendly and competent. I always feel comfortable asking anything about bikes and bike gear . I purchased my commuter here and have been satisfied with it ever since. Their new store on Dimond is sleek and modern. The shop is open to the showroom so customers can watch bikes being assembled, maintained, or repaired. This was a first to me since I've usually seen shops in a 'back room' out of sight at other bike stores. They pretty much have everything one would expect at a bike shop. Road bikes, mountain bikes, hybrids, and freestyles. Quality gear - locks, apparel, bike parts and accessories. Most of this stuff at prices I couldn't complain about. I happened to get a good deal on some stuff from a promo they were having. Service here was outstanding. I planned to check my bike in with me on the flight back home and they pre-assembled and packed it free of charge. While purchasing my bike a man walked in with a blown tube the staff determined was caused by overinflation. The man insisted the tube was at fault and without question they replaced his tube for free. They advised him not to overinflate the tube or they would not replace the next one for free. The staff was apparently knowledgable, very sincere and not condescending at all. Kudos to them. read more

Bought my fat tire here a year ago and it's been great. Brought it in for a tune up this week, and since I didn't bring it in for the free 30 day check up when you buy a bike there, they comp'd it. My husband and I went to two other places to look at bikes. It was frustrating because we had to ask for someone to help us, and the salespeople that helped us knew little more than a price. We were hesitant to go to a bicycle shop because we thought the prices would be out of our reach. Boy were we wrong. The salesman Paul was very helpful and knowledgeable. He not only advised on the type of bikes we would find most useful for our purposes, but he also adjusted the bikes to fit us. I have been going to this location for the last few years as it is close to my home. Iv always been pleased with the service and spoke highly of it until now. Over two months ago i talked with the manager and ordered a part for my bike, he was very helpful and easy to talk to. After about a week and a half i returned to check the status of my order but the manager was being social with someone he knew. After waiting the larger part of an hour I had to return to work. I returned the next week to get an update but he was out. I rang the following day to find that i had missed him as he had left for the evening, i inquired with his staff about my order and they let me know it hadn't arrived but was "probably" on its way and to try to call again the next day when the manager "should" be in. A couple of weeks ago i finally got some of his time and found out my item had never been ordered. He explained that he has been having some issues with his staff not properly recording special orders and apologized.. not remembering he was the one who took my order. I am a manager in retail. I know the difficulties involved with staff and following procedure but, when i error i do not blame my employees. my impression here is one of no leadership. Sadly, out of convenience i will continue to shop here but will reserve my larger purchases to a business i can respect. read more
