I just had the worst buying experience of my life there. They massively overcharged me for what is turning out to be a mediocre at best bicycle, & the bike has this thin useless rubber on the tires on it that do not keep anything from penetrating them. In short, I bought the bike the day before yesterday, & I've been back every day to have a tire fixed that, not only did they not do it right the 1st tie, they lied about why it was flat, then charged me to fix. So, over $1,000 later, I have a nearly WalMart grade bike that gets a flat almost every time I use it! Worst ever experience buying! read more

Absolutely amazing experience, from initial testing and research to choosing and buying a new e-bike. The minute I walked in the door and Sue greeted me, I knew I was in great hands. She took a lot of time to really pay attention to and focus my specific needs and goals to really hone in on the best bike for me and with zero pressure to buy one bit. My roommates tried to do me a favor and fill up my flat tire on my bike. They weren't familiar with the nozzle mechanism and ended up breaking it, and thinking I just had a flat. Turns out, the nozzle bone is connected to the tube bone. Which means I needed a new tube. The guy in the repair center here quickly and professionally explained the situation to me and the various costs. There was no pressure to pay and no pressure to pay them for the labor. I paid them to install the tube since I understand bicycles about as well as my mom understands "The Cloud". They installed and tested it well. I was in-and-out in less than 10 minutes. SIDEBAR: There was a customer ahead of me that was incredibly arrogant and rude. The tech came up to me to diagnose my problem and she said, loudly "AM I INVISIBLE? I WAS HERE FIRST!" She was standing around, not really committed to the line, talking to some random guy. It was an honest mistake and he patiently explained why she didn't look like she was in line. I insisted the tech take her first, and he calmly helped her out. Good on him for keeping his cool! Not sure I would've been able to do the same. read more

Bike Mechanics are helpful and highly knowledgeable. But the sales people lack customer service and are at times very arrogant. I have been here many times and have encountered multiple arrogant sales employees. The bike mechanics are great and very helpful just not the sales people. To be fair about 2 of the sales people have been good of the 5 or 7 I have had experience with. They either expect you to know everything about bikes and if they think you are incorrect they arrogantly say what they believe is correct. I would love to support this local store but getting good customer service about 20% of the time is unacceptable. This store was listed online as retailer of a line of pet baskets for bicycles. I went in and asked the salesman if he had them and told him I wanted one to go on the back of my bike for a small dog weighing about ten pounds. For the next 20 minutes he told me why I should not buy a pet basket, and if I insisted on endangering myself with one, just to buy a regular wicker basket (now that, he showed me) and jury-rig it to my bike with rope and bungee cords, but never on the front. Like I wrote above, I told him from the get-go I wanted one for the back of my bike, and I told him every time he brought it up after that. He wasn't listening to me. I didn't want to jury-rig a wicker basket to my bike. I wanted a basket made for pets to go on bicycles, that attached properly with whatever accessory equipment was necessary. I wanted to take my little dog riding safely, yet this guy thought a wicker basket tied on with rope was safer for both me and my dog? Ultimately, the choices he gave me were 1) the inexpensive wicker basket I tied on myself somehow with rope and bungee cords, or 2) one of those sporty pet strollers for more than $300, and how am I supposed to get that contraption through the snow? Say what? Those are my *only* choices? He never even showed me a pet basket they actually carried or explained how one would or wouldn't work. I left empty-handed. The trip to the store was a complete waste of my time, and I have no intention of going back for anything. I mean, I appreciate any business that doesn't try to sell me things I don't need or that won't work for me, but this experience went way beyond that. I know people in other states who take their dogs on their bikes, in pet baskets specifically designed for their bikes, all of the time. We can't do the same in Anchorage? This employee was arrogant. Because he wasn't interested in what I was, he made no effort to meet my needs. He did not send me away with something that would work for me, nor even a plan to get something. If the store's employees have no interest in selling me something I am actively seeking, nor interested in helping me find what I need, then why should I go there for anything? No reason that I can see, so I won't. read more

I bought my daughters' bikes here years ago and I got my money's worth. They got so much use at home ant even travelled with us to Canada! When they outgrew them, I brought them back and was able to trade them in for a bike for my youngest daughter. The owner personally met with me and took care of me. The Bicycle Shop is Anchorage's year-round stop for all things bicycular. The truth is that I hate bicycling. All the yucky pedaling and annoying gear-shifting and getting gross sweaty while drudging up that stupid hill just to take funny pictures of Uranus... blech! But the Bicycle Shop has crazy magic and when I walk into the store I suddenly believe I'm a Shimano-loving spin fiend who can ride crazy laps for 24 hours at the Kincaid Solstice Rally. The secret is their awesome retail staff, who wow you with mesmerizing insight (it's like they KNOW me!) without being pushy (we both know I don't really NEED winter tires, where's your tassel section?). The other secret is their awesome shop staff, who are repair geniuses and looked at me with appropriate mordancy when I presented my "broken" Stumpjumper that they fixed by completing a gear shift. Customer service was great, after I traded the 'kid' for a grown up salesperson. I told a young guy what I was looking for but that I needed some help making the final choice. He showed me a bike and said 'this one is good.' I asked why and he said it has good wheels. As I turned to leave the manager came over, asked a few questions, and sold me the bike I needed. I got a Specialized Camber Comp & love it. Hadn't considered a full suspension until my lesson from that very knowledgable sales guru. The staff almost gives you the feeling like they're doing you a huge favor or you're unconvincing them by bring in your bicycle for service. Picked up my bike from a minor service and they couldn't care less when giving me my bike, just ran my card, I gave them a cash tip and thanked them sincerely but they couldn't even say thanks for giving them the business or the tip. After I got my bicycle home and inspected their work I ended up having to get out my tools and making minor adjustments to the work they did to perfect it. Poor customer service and mechanical work, don't waste your hard earned money and time, go down the street to Speedway Cycles or REI for your bike work. read more

Bike shops and bike people can be intimidating to he uninitiated. I was really happy to have excellent help selecting a bike to purchase. He simply laid out the facts and I never felt like he was talking over my head or trying to sell me something that I didn't want to buy. Bought a specialized crave comp here about a week ago. So far so good. This is a bike shop. That means a lot of different things to different people. If your expectations are to encounter a bike shop than this pretty much fulfills all expectations. The mechanics are very helpful, albeit over worked. They're overworked because they are good. I had an issue with the free hub on my specialized crave comp that I bought and they replaced my entire wheel set...so I basically like them a lot right now. I recommend buying a new bike here..if you are buying a new specialized bike because they have to stand behind the quality product they sell. read more

Came in a few times just to shop, was offered assistance but not overwhelmed. When I came in to buy I made it clear why I was there. The person helping was very polite and knowledgeable. I almost bought a hybrid but he asked if I would ever take it off road. I said more than likely yes so he recommends a specialized rockhopper. I have been 100% satisfied with my experiences there. After rising my rock hopper around eklutna I noticed some skipping in the gears. I took it in for my free tune up they offer to everyone who buys a bike there and not only did they fix it they replaced all my gears with a whole new aftermarket set. They're very helpful and a great resource for buying a bicycle. I've just gotten into bicycling in the last year and they helped me pick out a nice Cannondale with disk brakes. Unfortunately, after a few rides, I was having problems with the caliper rubbing in the disk brake. They told me a little rubbing was normal and sent me on my way. Great bike store; Plenty of different varieties to choose from. Prices are a little high, just like at places like REI, but it's expected in high-end gear. They've been in business for quite a few years, and I can see why; They hire great people who have a lot of information to dispense. Their repair shop at the back of their store is running very professionally and usually does not have a very long waiting period to get your bike back from being repaired. So this is my first review and I felt so strongly about my experience at this place that I had to create this account and tell the world. Worst experience in short of getting mugged. I went there to drop off my bike for a tune up and to correct a ghost shifting problem. It was Tuesday and they said they would give me a call by Friday. Friday came and went without a call. So on Monday I called them they said it was ready. Go to pick it up it was $60, great. This portion is my own fault but I didn't inspect their work before leaving the shop. Didn't think I'd have to but, apparently so. When I get home, I notice that my chain is filthy, the front tire is flat, the rear brake is loose. but hey they wiped down the frame so I guess that costs $60. I take it for a ride a few times and the ghost shifting is still there. I'm certain that nobody even looked at the bike. I took it over to REI and the first thing the guy does is bust out a chain gauge tool. He says its definitely the chain, needs to be replaced. The chain was $15. I was out the door in 20 minutes with my bike. Put the chain on when I get home, go for a 10 mile ride, no ghost shifting. REI was able to look at the bike and diagnose it correctly in a few minutes while the bike shop took almost a week to sit on their asses to do nothing with the bike, but charge me for their incompetence. FUCK THE BIKE SHOP. I honestly have no idea how they stay in business. I wish I could give a negative review. read more
