Stopped in for lunch on the day of a World Cup game, and we were all pleased with what we ordered. We started with the fried pickles which were delicious, and I had the tomato soup and grilled cheese for lunch - which was the perfect combination. Despite it being a hot day, the soup wasn't scorching hot so it hit the spot, and the grilled cheese was great. One of us had the spice box, which was flavored wonderfully, and another had the chicken sandwich. We felt bad for the one bartender having to work with so many people during a busy World Cup afternoon, but she did a great job. Was in LIC today. Was hungry. Saw this cute place and that offered outdoor seating. It was early, but they were open for business. I had a wagon with me because I went to pick up a donation for my dance school. I figured it was perfect to sit outside. I opened the door and two women turned around and looked at me with blank stares. I asked if they were open. They responded yes. I asked if they were serving on the patio. They said, "Yeah, "you can go out there. " (Awkward) I sat outside. I waited at least 10 minutes before one of them came out and yelled from the door as she walked towards me, "Are you going to choose something? " (Even more awkward) I said yes with my back to her waiting for her to walk over to me to take my order. She stands beside me and takes my order then proceeds to tell me that she needs my credit card for the order. She worded it a little strangely. I questioned her reason as I wasn't drinking alcohol. She repeated the same strange reason which for me was code for: WE DON'T TRUST YOU. YOU MIGHT RUN OFF WITHOUT PAYING! I told her no thank you and I got up and left. She quickly said okay and went back inside. I was a little angry. I tossed the paper coaster on the floor. My experience today. Not a good feeling about that restaurant. I wished there were others there so I coukd ask if she required that they leave a card to eat on the patio also. I've never been asked that before. Chime in! I came here last night on a mission to try Woodbines' spice box after my friend came back from Ireland talking a big game about "Irish spice bags". I was not disappointed! The spice box was really tasty! The curry sauce was realllll addictive and the spicy/salty/smokey sweet balance hit perfectly. It's a bit oily and the chicken was slightly dry, but the flavor more than made up for it. If you close your eyes and drink enough of their beers on draft, you could probably convince yourself you're in Dublin after a night out. The ambiance was solid with a cozy indoor setup and small outdoor section. I can only speak for the ~5:30pm ambiance, but the night vibe here was apparently good enough that my friend's friend got a girl's number here. Service was chill and friendly. Price-wise, $23 for chicken and fries felt steep, but the very reasonable happy hour beer pricing balanced the scales. Definitely recommend it if you're looking for a classic Irish pub in LIC or if TikTok convinced you to hunt down a spice bag. read more

Pretty standard Irish pub setup with wood floors and bar, wood panels on the wall. I've been here a few times with friends who live in the area and am impressed with their food, nothing that jumps out as fancy but their dishes are hearty and satisfying, and a good value for the neighborhood. The staff is attentive without being overbearing and it's often bustling inside. I can recommend their burgers, Irish sausage roll, scotch egg and sandwiches. My friends enjoy their brunch items as well. They take cash and card, bathrooms are available. Stopped in for a late lunch during a thunderstorm and it was packed. That being said, the staff was super friendly about seating us at the bar until a seat opened up and were super friendly. They all have lovely Irish accents and are really warm and friendly ESPECIALLY considering how busy it was. I ordered the curry chicken, which was tasty but wish there was a bit more chicken. I did it with fries which was an interesting take (could do rice if you want, but was being rambunctious) and it was delicious. WE also did the fried pickles which came with a ton and had a great dipping sauce! Bar food. Some may call it elevated bar food but it's a facade. Do not go for the lobster Mac and cheese. It tastes like nothing but garlic. I deliberately separated the lobster in it and found a tiny morsel of food. A shame for such a high ticket price item. The short rib grilled cheese was okay, but not worth the ticket price. I liked that it had pickles and coleslaw inside the slider. It made the slider taste so much better. I liked how crispy their fries were. Service: The service was okay. We came here for New Years Eve for a late lunch/early dinner. We had been having a craving for a traditional British Christmas dinner and they had advertised online that they would be serving roast Turkey and ham, which is just what we wanted. We booked for 3.30 and arrived on time and the place was absolutely heaving. There only seemed to be one person working and he was covering both the bar, serving tables and bringing out food. We ordered our drinks and looked at the menus. We asked if they had the Turkey and ham special and was told no. This special had been the entire reason for us to book Woodbines so we were disappointed to hear this. We decided to order the scotch egg and sausage roll to start and then we would decide on our mains. The scotch egg arrived quickly and then our server rushed off to deal with the bar (entirely understandable as the place was full so too busy for one person really). The scotch egg was ok but nothing special. Whilst eating this we decided there was nothing on the menu that we really wanted for our mains and had found another location that was doing roast Turkey. Our sausage roll never arrived so we asked for our cheque and left. The bill came to $55 including tax and tip for 3 drinks and the starter. We wouldn't return, this is not "local" to us, but if we lived in LIC we would give it another try on a day that isn't so busy. read more

A friend of mine invited me on a date to this restaurant and it did not disappoint. We were quickly greeted and seated upon arriving. There were a few other people dining as well so they stayed pretty busy throughout the night. My friend had rum with coke to drink and I had the "Rosemary's Baby." The drink was pretty good. My salmon was also a hit. It was tasty, flaky, and juicy - just like I like it. It came with potatoes and asparagus and they were also cooked perfectly - al dente. Started off a sangria which was ok and Jumbo wings which were solid. For my main, I got the woodbine burger ($17) with truffle fries ($2 extra) which was also solid. The half roast chicken was a miss and a bit dry. The service is always great as well and they're also dog friendly! They let us sit indoors with our dog and even gave him a treat! Drinks are alright. You can order whatever you want since they do have a full bar but they also offer cocktails and other specialty drinks as well. I found that some cocktails were light in alcohol while others were stronger but overall, not bad. The food is also yummy, especially to satisfy the munchies. They have a full menu serving all types of food from burgers/sandwiches to tacos and fish & chips. Had gone to Woodbines for brunch with family and to watch Giants play Rams. The only disappointing thing about this experience was the way Giants played. Just very terrible! But this review isn't about the Giants! It about the amazing staff, a well priced brunch menu, and excellent service that we experienced at Woodbines. They have decent outdoor seating, but it was a relatively chilly Sunday afternoon, and we sat indoors on one of their comfortable seating opposite their bar. They had some good beers on draught, but we were in mood for some brunch cocktails and got an extremely sour Greyhound ($9) and Bellini ($9). The greyhound was quite sour and it felt like the grapefruit/concoction had gone bad. A very strong drink though! If you stick with the same cocktail, they had refills for $5 which I thought was pretty cool. I knew I should've started with their Bloody Mary ($9) which was a much better drink as compared to the Greyhound. For food, we got Avocado Toast ($15) and Beet Salad ($13) - both extremely flavorful and delicious options. Service was absolutely excellent and they have a very friendly team here! The place started getting busy around 3:15 pm. We will definitely visit again, but not when Giants are playing! read more

This is a great dog-friendly bar on Vernon Blvd. There's outdoor seating, both on the sidewalk and in a protected covered space on the street. They serve up really good cocktails that are decently priced and they also serve food. I had a few cocktails - Rosemarie's Baby and the Peachy Old Fashioned - and I recommend both. I just had the Scotch Egg appetizer and it was delicious. There's plenty of other options on the menu, including craft beers, and there's a TV inside by the bar. But for drinks we were still able to pick a few good choices. They had a mulled warm wine and I went with the "No Thank You" drink with had vodka, ginger, lime and champagne. It was refreshing. We each had a short rib inspired dish. The short rib egg rolls were crispy, a great size and came with a horseradish dipping sauce. The short rib tacos (3) were also a good serving size and tasty. We shared the molten lava cake for dessert. The service was good. The waiter was attentive and we had time to chat before settling the bill. By 7:30 they were full so you could see it's a popular spot for a Friday night. Everyone seemed happy. The only drawback from our table was the draft from the back door. Right on the highly accessible Vernon Blvd, this cozy, dark-wood restaurant was a commendable brunch spot to eat away our World Cup woes. The food selection was great too. For appetizers that I ordered was Woodbines chili cheese nachos in it were fried corn chips, beef chili, jack cheese, pico de gallo, and sour cream & pickled jalapeños. It was enough for two people. Not only did it look amazing to eat, but it tasted so savory. For the entree i ordered the slider trios which has Irish cheddar, bacon & slider in one, pepperjack, Pico de Gallo & avocado in another, and last but not least is goat cheese, sautéed onions & mushrooms. All three were different, and I liked the one with bacon in it the best. Who doesn't enjoy a good piece of bacon? I also, ordered a drink of course which was a ginger beer. I would probably come back as it has a great homey vibe and the servers were welcoming and very friendly. However, the bathroom situation needs to be addressed. We have been regular customers for years. The owner/manager needs to know that we were so grossed out today, Friday July 18th. There was a guy with a group of people walking around the bar with a live snake around his neck. They were passing the snake around, petting it and it near the food, utensils and others drinking at the bar. Keep in mind snakes can carry saminella and bacteria . We left the restaurant couldn't eat our food. If this were reported to the dept of health (which I won't do since we have always liked the hard working staff here who had no control of what to do) they would shut woodbines down. I brought in my dog-phew (pup), and they instantly gave him a bowl of water (a real bowl-not styrofoam!) - and gave him treats (only after asking if that was okay!)
