a food truck parked in a parking lot

Update: There is food truck now located on LSU's campus near the Patrick Taylor Engineering building. I love the added convenience now when I want a different lunch option.

Well hello to the big cheese! The Big Cheezy is new and delicious (well at least in this location it is). They are a mobile unit that has been planted at the same spot for several months yet. It has been so difficult because they are parked in the same plaza lot as my gym is located in. Since I don't eat a ton anymore, once sandwich is more than plenty to eat between me and my family. For grilled cheese, I could see how pricey it could kind of be for some, especially for just as sandwich; all else is extra! I've tried the Mac & Cheezy, The Juice and The CrawGator. My favorite, is the Mac & Cheezy, which is a grilled cheese stuffed with macaroni and cheese; very rich! They even have a small dipper cup of tomato basil soup, which paired perfectly with each sandwich. Customer service has always been great, too. The times I have gone, they had me wait in my car (instead of the boiling, hot sun) and my food was brought to my car upon completion. Will I be back? Cheese ya!! Where can you find them? For now, they are located in the plaza on Perkins & Acadian (same as Juban's & UFC Gym). Enjoy!

I had really been looking forward to trying Parrain's Seafood, but unfortunately my experience was…read moredisappointing. Our waitress, Kate M., didn't have the best customer service. She came across as short, unfriendly, and overall not very pleasant. I first ordered a Banana Foster's Martini, but she came back and said they didn't have the ingredients. No problem--I asked for an Espresso Martini instead. A few minutes later, after bringing everyone else's drinks, she returned and simply said they couldn't make that either and asked if I wanted something else. At that point, I just declined. When it was time to order, our table had nine people. She took my husband's order, then went around the table taking everyone else's order. By the time she got back to me, she said, "Okay, is that it?" I had to remind her that she hadn't taken my order yet. I ordered the crab and corn bisque, a salad, and the stuffed catfish with creamed spinach. The salad came out quickly and was very good. Then everyone else at the table received their meals while I only received my bisque. After waiting, I was told my stuffed catfish "didn't come out right" and had to be remade. At that point, I honestly wondered if it was a joke. It wasn't. By the time my entrée arrived, everyone else was nearly finished eating. To the restaurant's credit, they did remove the stuffed catfish from my bill, and I appreciated that. However, the entire experience left me feeling overlooked from start to finish. My biggest suggestion would be for our waitress to work on her customer service. A smile goes a long way. Saying things like "Give me that plate," slamming cups onto the table, and appearing annoyed throughout the meal doesn't create a welcoming dining experience. Hospitality is just as important as the food, and I hope this feedback is taken constructively.

The sandwiches were fresh and packed with flavor, the pot pies were rich, creamy, and pure comfort food, and the appetizers were the perfect start to the meal. The whipped Parmesan mashed potatoes deserve their own standing ovation. They were unbelievably creamy, cheesy, and easily some of the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. And don't even get me started on the sweet pies... BOMB! They were the perfect ending to an already amazing meal. To top it all off, our waitress, Sophie C, was an absolute gem! She was friendly, attentive, and made sure our entire experience was perfect from start to finish. If you're anywhere near Baton Rouge, do yourself a favor and eat at Elsie's Plate & Pie. Expected a wait, 20 minutes, no problem! Another 15 to place our order, and another 25 to receive our food. We were there over an hour before we got any food. Ooffff... it's fine. We're laid back and can roll with the punches-they're busy and staff was friendly-it'll all be worth it when the food rocks our socks. Sadly...no. Both grilled cheeses (entrees) were room temp and the cheese was already hardening. It felt as if they had forgotten to deliver the food. Waitress was so kind and took the one off our check. It was appreciated. Boudin balls were great!! Bedford and remoulade sauces were okay. Parmesan potatoes were good!! Brussel sprouts and fries were fine-would have been better if served hot, I think. We did the pie flight and they were all good. Not mind blowing, but good. I always give out second chances-public service and food service is tough and sometimes you just have off days. Worth checking out if you live in town!! But if you're just passing through, maybe just get some pie to go.

They have been featured on Food Network's "Diners, Drive In's, and Dives" and have the pictures with Guy Fieri prominently displayed to prove it. The interior is eclectic, which is comforting. While BBQ is the main emphasis here, there are a number of other things on the menu. One of these that's really popular is the seafood stuffed potatoes. These are gigantic baked potatoes that come with shrimp or catfish, with our without crawfish étouffée. Seafood is a definite option here, and one can have it on Friday or any other day. But let's discuss the BBQ. They have smoked turkey that's never dry, and this is great in a sandwich or plate. The smoked wings are another favorite of mine. Then there is the smoked meatloaf, which is great in po-boy form. The ribs and brisket are also very worthy options. I think a two meat plate is a good way to enjoy the BBQ as it allows variety in tasting! Then one has to be pleased by the wide selection of sides. Variety is always great, especially when it includes uncommonly great options like fried green beans, red beans and rice, and Cajun Dirty Rice. One can always get coleslaw and beans if you are a fan of the classics. They even have desserts, if one has any room left for them. I rarely do...

We took our mom here for her birthday in early June. The service was okay at this restaurant. There was nothing that stood out in particular about the service, it was pretty average. The food at this restaurant all tasted great. I tried their fried green tomatoes appetizer as well as their golden fried alligator which was delicious. I got the jerk fried chicken with red beans and rice and smoked sausage for my entree and it was good. I was expecting my chicken to be spicy or to at least taste like jerk seasoning but it didn't at all. It was more like a BBQ sauce with no heat at all. The menu was also very lacking to me, we all felt that it was missing items or needed more. I wish there was more of a variety of items to choose from especially for those allergic to shellfish or vegetarian.
