I love the ambience of this place... hand painted murals, beautiful lighting, tile floors, great music. My husband has the Cuban sandwich (great) and I had the snapper. I think some kind of sauce would have been good on it, because it came with a lot of white rice and tostones, both of which aren't too flavorful. I'm looking forward to going back and getting one of the slow roasted pork dishes. Y'all- let's keep this place in business! Our side of toe

Guava...something. It's one of the homemade desserts.

Ambiance, Service & Food=10/10 I get excited with trying something different and I will be back. The seafood soup was my favorite. I also had the Cuban tamales. I liked the sauce that came on the side with it. Almost asked for extra.

This is what a good Cuban Flan should look like

TLDR: I enjoyed everything except the rice and the Flan -- these are what really influenced my rating. I will probably go back at some point and give them another try. I do believe it takes more than once to get a solid opinion and I'll update my review after that if possible. If you like Cuban food, or are just curious, give this restaurant a try. Detailed review below. If there's a Cuban restaurant nearby I am going to try it. Growing up in a Cuban family in Key West, this is my comfort food. Yes, I make several of the dishes at home from time to time but, let's face it, having someone else cook for you is awesome. Usually we drive to Kenner or Lafayette to get good Cuban food so I was excited to try Elisa's. First, the ambiance and staff. We loved the interior decor. The wall art is amazing and the restaurant has a cool vibe. There are many booths and then a few tables as well as seating at the bar. Everyone was friendly and we were greeted promptly. Our waiter Ryan was very friendly and attentive and he shared some of his favorites and recommendations from the menu, which is nice if you are not familiar with the dishes. We were also visited by Alejandro who wanted to make sure everything was going well. It was quiet when we got there but picked up as the time went on. They do not have their license to serve alcohol yet but it is coming. In the meantime they have a nice non-alcoholic Pina Colada. Oh, and FYI, they bring you chicharrones to the table instead of bread or chips. For our appetizers we went with Tostones Rellenos (wanted ham but I think we got tuna), Croquetas (chicken and ham), and Empanadas. They were all done well, and the flavors were good. It was a little hard to tell the chicken from the ham with the croquetas but they were still tasty. For entrees we went with some of the more traditional dishes. In my opinion Picadillo and Cerdo Asada are usually a good way to judge the quality of Cuban cooking. On the pork dish my husband substituted Maduros for the Yuca and the sweet plantains were delicious. Overall the main dishes hit the spot. My only real complaint is that the Moros y Cristianos were made with Basmati rice instead of long grain white rice. We asked about this and were told something about them ordering or receiving the wrong rice. If this is true I hope they correct it. We've never had this dish made like that before and did not care for it. It got a little better once mixed with the Picadillo (which was very good by itself) but still the texture was just weird. For dessert we wanted Tres Leches and Flan but they were out of the Tres Leches. Sadly, the Flan was a complete fail. I have eaten a ton of this dish since childhood, and even make it at home, and I am not sure I would even call what we were served flan. It didn't look right once served and the texture was almost like bread. It should be rich and creamy with a light caramel top to it. My husband commented that the caramel tasted burnt but I couldn't really eat enough to verify that. We also ordered Cuban Tamales and Pasteles de Guayaba con Queso to take home. Now, I know that food is different when not eaten fresh, and personally I don't care for Tamales, but these were flavorful. Husband wouldhave preferrred more meat in the tamale itself -- not sure about the pork on the side. Tamales vary across countries and regions so you may have to adjust your expectations if you have not had Cuban tamales before. The the Pasteles must have been ordered from someplace... they were ok, didn't really taste the queso. Wouldn't order them again.

Been seeing this pop up a lot but they are usually downtown. Excited that the new restaurant on Sherwood is opening soon. But decided to try for lunch today. Was definitely NOT disappointed. Service was amazing. Ate my sandwich on my tailgate and loved every bite. Can't wait for the new restaurant to open!

The food truck was sold along with the name and is now a cute diner located 2627 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd. Service is good. Place is super clean. Was about 80% full Staff was efficient and food was prepared quickly but if you were expecting the old Elisa's Cuban, this wasn't it. First of all, it's not real Cuban bread. It has to be real Cuban bread not French bread pressed like a Cuban. There were only 2 slices of meat- one ham, one pork and one slice of cheese. Barely a taste of pickle or mustard The sandwich was on what appeared to be 6" French bread roll and toasted on a grill instead of a panini press. The fries were thick and on the soggy side. We did get take out but no more than 6 minutes from the restaurant. The food truck had it right. Cuban bread w/generous helping of meat, cheese and pickles and crisp shoestring fries and you could comfortably share a sandwich. Had I known I would have ordered more food but quantity wouldn't have changed quality. Definitely needs work. Another con for me is you can't grab a cold beer sling with your food but we ordered take out so It didn't matter. I realize they are new but they should have realized they had some great expectations to fulfill when they took over the name. Two Cuban sandwiches cost $28 and change. I would have done better at Subway. Still searching for the perfect Cuban in Baton Rouge. If you decide to eat in the dining room there is good parking. It is a family restaurant. On a holiday Monday at lunch it was on the noisy side which is to be expected.

I forgot my breakfast at home this morning and decided to try the food truck thats always on the corner of my office building. Its cuban cuisine so I wasn't sure what to expect as I have never had it before- I was pleasantly surprised! I got a omlette sandwich and a mango juice. It was filling and the juice was fresh and delicious. I will definitely patronize again

This is one of my absolute favorite food trucks, and if you spot it out in the wild, you can't pass it up! The team running the truck are some of the friendliest you'll ever meet, and their Cuban sandwich? Absolutely to die for!

Based on the reviews and seeing that this place roasted their own coffee I was very excited to try it but it left much to be desired. Walked in to a very lively coffee shop, lots of students and they had a very nice sized space. Service was bleh, not very friendly just kind of like "what do you want attitude". Not sure if the college students employed are a little stressed out but you are in the service industry, give people a good experience! Ordered a pour over and an oatmeal cream pie. The pour over was good! Whoever is roasting did a great job highlighting the origin flavors of that coffee and it was brewed well thanks to the automated brewing system they had. The oatmeal cream pie was nothing special. A little hard and couldn't tell if it was old or just a recipe used that made it dense. The worst part for me was at the area you pick up drinks, it was messy and because of that mess there were a lot of little fruit fly looking things flying around. Not the best look for an establishment serving food and coffee. I really wanted to like this place. My coffee was great but a coffee shop is more than the cup. It's the whole experience and unfortunately, it was lacking. If I'm ever back in the area I'd give it a second try to see if it was a one off or not.

It means so much to have found my new go-to coffee spot when I'm back in BR. The space itself is perfectly warm, clean, and welcoming. Everything is curated to make you feel like you belong. The coffee, tea, and food choices are perfect. I grabbed an espresso shot and cinnamon roll to stay and an iced matcha latte to go. The espresso was nicely dialed in, the notes were present and the barista served it wonderfully. The cinnamon roll was warmed up and freshly iced before being served. The matcha was so good, and a great choice to takeaway as a treat. The staff here really goes beyond to provide excellent service. This is my new go-to coffee spot in Baton Rouge. Thanks Coffee Joy!

The equipment used to prepare both coffee and tea is top-of-the-line, and the quality shows in every cup. The olives pogača (pronounced pasha in Turkish), topped with sea salt, is truly unique--fluffy, rich, and deeply satisfying. The baklava is served warm and is remarkably soft and easy to enjoy, unlike the usually firm, layered texture you expect. There's also an impressive tea selection with real flavor, loose-leaf options, and specialty coffees, including French press with a choice of beans. Honestly, this place feels like a luxury for this town.

But one thing that is more true than the Bermuda triangle is the Baton Rouge Bridge Crossing traffic back up. It's like as inevitable and predictable as anything can be and I am getting to enjoy it firsthand today. Always a traffic accident always a lane closure. Now usually I do the farm market Road north of Baton Rouge to avoid it but today I needed to go this way. The I-10/I-12/110 Triangle maybe? And I knew that my first stop would be French Truck location. I wanted coffee for the rest of my trip as I am traveling with my brewing equipment. I sampled their Festin, and their single source, Kenya, and Ethiopia and I decided to get a bag of the Ethiopia because it has that profound blueberry flavor profile that I like in small doses, thinking it was be a perfect coffee to share with my friends in Florida. Despite not being a big coffee enthusiast, I have come to appreciate all they've brought to the table as a serious coffee destination. As a venue, it's a beautiful spot with a good amount of outdoor and indoor seating. Their creative use of branding with lots of yellow, distinctive fonts, and merch are displayed throughout the store, becoming a central theme of their decor. Coupled with natural lighting, plenty of seating, good WiFi and a cool display of their brewing process, it's evident they've taken big steps to ensure their venue is one of the least ordinary establishments in the city. They honed their craft in New Orleans and have managed to do the same here. Their New Orleans iced coffee was dark and potent, while their Japanese slow drip aka Oji drip iced coffee was pleasantly delightful. The cafe au lait is classic and a nice rendition compared to the many places that do the same throughout the state. The macchiato, cappuccinos, and americanos also deserve their own mention. Like any quality coffee place, they sell all kinds of different coffee brews by the bag both online and in store. They also sell food as well ranging from breakfast items to salads and sandwiches. Avocado toast seems to be a big hit here, but they have a wide range of open-faced toasts that includes smoked salmon, pimento and prosciutto. I am definitely eyeing their croissant sandwich for future visit. Prices are standard foodflation but I think the coffee and the ambiance will always be the central focus. They have a good amount of people on staff and therefore the waits are never too long. Customer services on point and the bathrooms are very clean. Parking is available in the back and there is limited street parking as well. With locations in Memphis as well as the OG in New Orleans, they should be very proud that they've done well in Baton Rouge.
