Sausage, Egg, and Cheese with a side of home fries

Had brunch at The Bird on a Monday morning a couple of weeks ago, and it was amazing. The ambiance is cozy and homey, with a few tables outside, some high-top tables inside, bar seating, three half-booth tables, and even a couch area. You order at the register, and the staff brings the food out to your table. Everyone was attentive, and we had no issues with the service. We ordered the waffle plate, which came topped with fruit alongside eggs and their house sausage. We also tried the Huevos Rancheros, the Sausage Egg & Cheese sandwich, and a build-your-own omelette. For drinks, we ordered the brown sugar cold brew, dulce de leche cold brew, drip coffee, and an espresso martini. The waffle was huge, and the sides were great. My only complaint was that it could have used more fruit, as there were only a few small pieces. The Huevos Rancheros were delicious and came with a generous serving of avocado. The only thing that caught us off guard was the lack of salsa, since in traditional Huevos Rancheros the salsa is a key component. Even so, the dish was still flavorful and filling. The omelette was excellent, and the breakfast sandwich was equally delicious. I was especially impressed by the house-made jam, house-made hot sauce, and the perfectly seasoned home fries. As for the drinks, the brown sugar cold brew was excellent, but the dulce de leche version was far too sweet for my taste. From what I understood, they use two flavored syrups to make it, and I think using smaller portions of each would create a better balance. We ended up adding oat milk and some drip coffee to tone it down. The drip coffee itself was solid and came with free refills. The espresso martini really tied brunch together for me -- strong, well-made, and delicious. Overall, we really enjoyed both the food and the experience, and we'll definitely be back.

The restaurant is very small and it's self seating. You order at the register and they bring the food to you. I recommend going on a nice day so you can sit outside. The food was very good.

They can get all 5 stars from me! I really enjoyed the vibe and culture of the restaurant. It seemed like the community enjoyed this place with the constant traffic and slight uptick of business at the early hours of 845am-915am. The menu was delicious. I've never had deviled eggs at a restaurant, especially with a unique candied bacon twist. Like hello? So good! I ordered the Biscuit and Gravy SANDWICH! Let this be your warning that it is big and bountiful. My mom got a waffle platter and it looks so elegant and clean. She scrapped her plate. The 2 staff that helped us were Sean and Steven. Just the chillest guys. They really seemed to just enjoy the general job. Also if ya go, find out who Dorothy is and why the lamp is kept on for her?!

Stopped I today for a few drinks (no food). Absolutely loved the espresso martini and my wife loved her Irish coffee with Jameson! The atmosphere is relaxed, but the space is small, so be advised if coming for brunch.

Stopped in for a quick bite but a few things stood out. Menu item i.e candied bacon (didn't say it would be served cold). On numerous occasions tried getting the attention of staff and was completely ignored until I had to get up out my seat to address wrong items brought to my table. Establishment is quaint and parking is limited in the small lot, and limited spots on the street first come first serve basis if you're familiar with that area of Norfolk. For the space to be on the smaller side the music was relatively loud. So wouldn't recommend as a place to go and try to catch up with a small group, definitely a pop in and skidaddle type of place. If Im honest a 3 out of 5 is being generous. I spent approximately $21 dollars and left rather unfulfilled. Will I come back Im not sure, detected an air of nonchalance when it came to the errors so Im not kosher on repeat establishments that don't pride themselves on top notch customer service first. I speak very clearly so to have the types of mishaps I had with my rather small meal was a tad over the top for me. Sorry I wouldn't recommend.

The Bird is a quirky, casual spot. They have a smaller menu that they do extremely well. I love that they have a wide array of options including gluten free, and vegan. The pay at the counter is easy and your food is brought out to your table. Seating can be a little tight, especially during weekend brunch, but it's worth it!

Came in on a Sunday. We expected a wait since it was brunch time on a weekend. Waited 45 min in line just to get to the front counter to order. You walk in, grab menus, wait in line to order at the counter, and hope to find a table to sit at while you wait for your food to be delivered impersonally. Eventually got to order and the drinks are made by the same person behind the bar taking your order. Chai wasn't homemade and was poured out of a boxed container. Cocktail was okay, but not worth the price. Went out to find a seat and waited for our food to be dropped on the table. Waited about 25 more minutes for food which was reasonable. For food we ordered a BYO omelette, Baja Benedict, and gazpacho. The gazpacho wasn't very flavorful, but tasted good on top of the breakfast potatoes. BYO omelette: the ingredients weren't mixed into the egg at all, fillings were sparse, and not seasoned. Baja Benedict was flavorful, but grilled chicken was lacking in amount. Hollandaise was yummy thankfully. We stuck out the wait because everyone online recommended this place and we are from out of town. What a mistake. We should've gone to the cafe a few doors down whose plates looked filled up and seasoned. The wait staff here was just as bland as the food. I use the term wait staff lightly as you had to order at the counter, get your own seats, your own silverware, pour your own water glasses, etc. Go somewhere else for a nice brunch experience. This didn't hit the mark at all. At the end of the meal found a lovely piece of hair that wasn't mine on the plate. I didn't bother saying anything because at that point we just wanted to leave. We didn't want anything else. It felt stressful and far from relaxing. The inside decor is cute?

Cute little spot to grab breakfast at. You come in and grab your own menu and place your order at the front and then sit anywhere it. It is fairly small in the inside (they also have a few tables outside as well) I do not recommend comimg here with a large party. I would suggest a party of 4 or smaller to be able to sit together. The food was amazingg!

This was a great spot to visit for brunch! The chicken and waffles here is one of my favorites in town. Chicken came out crispy and seasoned and were a great pairing with waffles and hot honey. I usually like my waffles on the fluffier side, but I actually really enjoyed the thinner style with the chicken!

What a hidden gem! I stopped here for brunch while down in Norfolk on a Sunday. They are open until 2PM on Sundays for brunch, then open again for dinner at 5. We stopped in around 12:30PM, and it was a quiet afternoon at The Bird. I love the interior of this spot. You order at the counter / bar, then seat yourself. There is plenty of seats outside if that's your vibe, too! I ordered the espresso martini after hearing great things about it. How could I not? My friend and I ordered the special deviled eggs, which were California roll style to share, and I ordered the baja benedict for my entree. English muffin topped with grilled chicken, poached eggs, hollandaise, house corn bean salsa, and avocado. We took our seat and waited only only a few minutes for our cocktails, and maybe 15 for our food. Not bad at all. The first bite of the deviled eggs was incredible. It tasted like an actual sushi roll, but disguised as an egg. Great dish to try. My benedict was so tasty. The home-fries were perfectly crisp, and the benedict had a little spice, the chicken was cooked to perfection and the toppings made it. I can't wait to come back to try their dinner menu. I was eyeing the triple pickle sandwich!!

The Bird coffee shop offers a delightful experience with its delicious food and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant itself was clean, which adds to the overall charm. Although we had a slightly rocky start with the first bartender, she seemed a bit indifferent, the other bartender quickly turned our experience around with his friendly service. I must also commend the bathroom, it was really clean and cozy, making for a pleasant visit. Overall, The Bird is a solid choice for a satisfying meal in a chill environment.

This is one of my favorite places to get good food and drinks. I love the atmosphere. It's so cozy. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. They always change up a few items on their menu. I got the chicken dip grilled cheese and the truffle fries. They were both delicious. I can't wait to try the deviled eggs when I come back next time.

Amazing vibes!!! Came late on a Thursday night for a drink and small bites, the dining room was decently full. Loved the dim lighting and the music. Order at the bar, the bartenders were very friendly and accommodating. The Aviation cocktail was delicious. The have a rotating selection of deviled eggs, but I'm not a fan of smoked salmon so I opted for the regular. Very dilly and delicious. The baby Caesar was also the perfect size. I think I'm going to come back for a "girl dinner" of truffle fries and caesar salad next time I'm here. Would love to come back and sample the brunch and coffee!

There's now a security table/desk where the DJ booth used to be; definitely wasted space where more tables and chairs could've been added instead. Had to stand for about 10 mins before some people finally left then we had to like "hurry" to get the seats before anyone else got them. We needed an extra chair at our table and went up to the security to ask if he knew where anymore could be or if we could borrow the one that was behind his table since he seemed to only be standing all night, but he responded kind of harsh with a stern "NO"....def unnecessary. Even though he was rude, the bartenders were the opposite, making funny light conversation and friendly while we ordered and waited for our drinks. The atmosphere was a nice, chill, and intimate vibe, with red/orange lighting. To drink: I tried the Saturn (8/10) it was pretty good, I liked the flavor, but there really didn't seem to be much alcohol in it fr. To eat: we ordered a Margherita Pizza and added Pepperoni (10/10) it was fresh, flavorful, and all around really good. There were hints of spice in the sauce that really added to the flavors. Their pizza seems to be a popular menu item as I seen pizza boxes on almost every table throughout the night. Def will be back again, but next time, we're going to get there early, so we can have a table for the night. Looked like once people secured themselves a table in here, they held it all night long and never moved / left till closing. My overall rate of experience : 7.5/10

The vibe here is bright and welcoming, with funky decor and friendly staff who clearly love what they do. To start, we ordered the Pickle de Gallo with chips. For our mains, my friend went with the Chicken Tinga bowl. It's packed with rice, black beans, tender chicken tinga, onion, cilantro, queso fresco, cabbage, plus a blend of roja and blanca salsas. He seemed to enjoy it, and loved how the chicken was flavorful, with just the right amount of spice, and all the toppings kept every bite interesting without overpowering the rest of the bowl. I went with the Chimichurri Bowl special, and it was equally fantastic. The chimichurri sauce was herby and bright. Perfect on top of the rice and protein. Friendly, attentive service without being overbearing is always appreciated, and she struck that balance perfectly. My wife ordered the Red Curry Bowl with blackened chicken, baby bok choy, radishes, carrots, green onions, cilantro, and rice noodles in a rich red curry coconut broth. This dish was both aesthetically pleasing and delicious. The vegetables were fresh, the broth was flavorful without being overpowering, and the generous portion made for a hearty meal. In fact, there was simply too much to finish, which is rarely something to complain about. She thoroughly enjoyed it. I chose The Richmond, a fried chicken sandwich topped with pimento cheese, bacon, jalapeños, Mike's Hot Honey, spicy aioli, lettuce, and tomato on a potato bun, served with fresh-cut fries. The chicken itself was excellent, and the fries were crispy, fresh, and plentiful. Where the sandwich lost me was in its identity. There was so much happening between the pimento cheese, spicy aioli, bacon, jalapeños, and hot honey that each ingredient seemed to compete with the others rather than complement them. Somewhere along the way, it crossed the Rubicon from a Nashville hot chicken sandwich into something entirely different. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It simply wasn't for me. I finished it, and I certainly didn't dislike it, but I wouldn't order it again. Sometimes restraint is the better part of culinary creativity, and I think this sandwich would benefit from letting one or two of its ingredients take center stage instead of asking them all to share the spotlight. Overall, we enjoyed our visit. Good food, generous portions, excellent service, and a relaxed atmosphere make Craft on Colley a place we'll happily return to. So I would go there when they first open to make sure to get a table. They also have an outdoor area with a fire pit area. They have a full bar if you wanted to just sit and relax.

It was really cool watching the process in real time. The Railyard at Lamberts Point has plenty of space to spread out, making it a great spot to bring the family and enjoy a beautiful day. Just around the corner from Fr8 House, you'll find a brewery, golf simulator, and other local shops to explore. Take some time to wander this unique industrial district on your next day off!

It's incredibly spacious with high ceilings, tons of natural light, and lots of beautiful details everywhere you look. The front patio is perfect for people watching or just enjoying some fresh air, with lots of space between tables (no awkward eavesdropping here). Inside, the vibe is super chill. There were quite a few people working on laptops, but it didn't feel stuffy or too quiet ... just a comfortable, low-key buzz that makes you want to stay a while. I started off with an iced americano topped with strawberry cold foam. The foam itself was a little thicker than I expected (it was more "whipped cream" than "cold foam"), but honestly, it was delicious. I'd totally order it again. The flavor combination is chef's kiss. A little sweet, a little tangy, and it adds something fun to a classic drink. For food, I went all in on the Box Car Sandwich. If you love grilled cheese, you HAVE to try this. Oozy pepperjack and cheddar, crispy bacon, tomato, avocado, all sandwiched between slices of perfect sourdough. And the special sauce on the side? I could have eaten it with a spoon. I have no idea what's in it, but I want a bottle to take home. I can't wait to come back here and give their espresso martini a try, and their pepperoni swirl pastry looked 10/10.

However, I called 508 locals to see if they had any availability. The hostess told us to come on through. When I pulled up it wasn't too busy. They were welcoming and sat us right away. We had an awesome waiter. Judging from his accent, he was from Ireland. He was great. Very enthusiastic and attentive. I was pretty hungry. I ordered the crab cakes (great sauce and aioli), Brussels (hot honey with goat cheese and cranberries), junglebird drink (delicious, it wasn't overly sweet), and ribeye. All delicious. I was not disappointed. It was such a chill place. It wasn't overly loud. It was clean. I recommend.

Bartender was incredibly attentive for having a full bar. We each had 2 different cocktails and both were distinctive and excellently crafted. We had shared a couple of the small plates and enjoyed them both. We enjoyed the place so much that we decided to come back with a group of 14 for All Lovers Eve. Second time: Made the reservation with ease. If you've ever made a group reservation you know how complicated some places make it. This was a large group and they were short handed. This lead to a slower service which actually worked out well for our group. We didn't mind the gaps. They put us in their back room (hint - GREAT for groups) there was a little confusion with the order to include an extra dish we didn't order. We still ate it and paid for it though. The staff was great with our large and rather disruptive group. The food was all excellent (local oysters on the half shell and the apple desert were my highlights). Multiple cocktails that were all wonderful. My only real negative was that there was a $50 "loyalty club " charge that was never mentioned and I didn't even notice on the $1200.00 bill. This is, I believe, some sort of credit card fee. Both times were good. Both times staff were wonderful. Both times we were comfortable. Give the place a try. I don't think you will regret it.

It's the kind of establishment that understands both execution and consistency--two qualities that are increasingly rare and always appreciated. The shrimp and grits remains a signature highlight. The Creole sauce offers a restrained heat, balanced by a layered depth of flavor that speaks to careful preparation rather than excess. The shrimp are properly cooked, retaining a delicate snap, while the stone-ground grits provide a well-seasoned, creamy foundation. Each component is thoughtfully prepared, and together they form a cohesive dish that feels both composed and satisfying--an authentic nod to Cajun tradition without unnecessary embellishment. Gershwin's stands as a reliable fixture in the downtown dining scene. For those seeking a refined take on Southern and New Orleans classics, it is well worth the visit--and a strong example of the quality found within Norfolk's local restaurant community.

If this restaurant was in an area that was even moderately competitive they would have been put out of business. The bar seems adequate but it was almost like they stopped serving food and forgot to tell anyone. I swear I'm not making this up, this actually happened: 1) it took over 2.5 hours for the entrees to come out. One came out so early that by the time the second set came out they were already done. 2) The only appetizer that was ordered that actually came out, arrived after the entree was done. 3) One person's order had to be changed 5x because the waiter kept coming back to say they're out. When his pork chop finally arrived, it was undercooked and not eatable. 4) Nothing was offered in any way as a comp, nor any real apology If you go, be wary. There is no way they were this thoroughly incompetent in every single aspect of the food services industry without practice.
