I went to visit family in Salida and this was a very pleasant surprise! The food was sooooo good!! Definitely would go here again. The staff were inviting and very welcoming. There was a little wait but it was reasonable and I noticed how quickly they worked to seat people down. We tried the eggs Benedict, Steak and Eggs and the Denver omelette. Everything was amazing!!! I have never left a yelp review in my life but had to download the app and make an account just because it was so bad that I hope I can save some people from feeling like I got robbed because that's how I feel right now. Met my cousin here for breakfast this morning, we both had our 1 year olds with us. Placed our order after we were sat, after 30 min. The 3 tables around us that got sat after us and order taken after us, got their food before us. We waited another 5 min, waiter came and noticed, said the food would be up any minute. Came back out verified our order then said it would be about 8 more min. So we told him that the kids were getting cranky and we couldn't wait since they hadn't even started our order yet. Another one of Modestos' hidden gems. I thought that I had stumbled upon something new but big was I wrong. The place was crowded and well known. I was greeted at the door by another customer with, "Are they still good?", I replied, "It's my first time here, but I hope that it is." We were say down as soon as we entered, and the wait staff was very attentive. My wife ordered a cinnamon roll and million dollar bacon (I think that's what it was called). I ordered the sirloin chicken fried steak and told them to make the cinnamon roll a 4 pack so I could have one and I could bring one home to my Boo Boos when he gets out of school. Needles to say, the food was delicious, and my wife tried to eat all the cinnamon rolls even though she only ordered one. PS. The gravy on their chicken fried steak and their biscuits and gravy was the best I've ever had. No salt and pepper needed and full of meat. read more

First I would like to say, the biscuits were amazing and the staff was really nice. I had the breakfast sandwich with a biscuit instead of bread, my brother had chicken fried steak. I was excited to take him there, because he loves chicken fried steak. He was not eating and I asked why, he said he didn't like it and said the gravy was made with hamburger not sausage. I tried it and it was not tasty at all. My sandwich was really tasty but the taste and texture of the gravy kind of threw the rest of my meal off. At that point we just paid the bill and left. Normally I would say something but the place was crowded and I didn't want the attention. Again though that biscuits were amazing and all the food we saw passing us and are plates looked amazing. The biscuit basket is awesome the food is nice and fresh, the food takes some time but the time is just right so you know that your food is freshly cooked. The service is great, the staff are happy and on top of what they need to get done. The ambiance is fantastic, the seating is great and new and you can tell they keep the place clean. The colors mix very well and show how it was back in the day. Overall my experience was outstanding and I will definitely take my family there a billion times.
