Chow mein is way too salty here! Service is no frills, get in, order, and you either eat there or get out. I ordered the honey walnut shrimp combination but asked for all chow mein since I'm not a big fan of fried rice for $16.31 with card after taxes. I believe there's a 2-3% additional charge if you use card, but I could be remembering incorrectly. Definitely call and ask or bring cash! The shrimp was fantastic. It had the right amount of batter, wasn't overcooked whatsoever and the shrimp was nice and bouncy. The sauce wasn't overly sweet or artificial tasting either! The chow mein was okay. Noodles slightly overcooked and on the verge of being mushy and as I continued eating it got extremely salty so I had to stop. Unfortunately will not be getting it again! A ton of these reviews are saying they pack the food here.. pack where? There is way too much space in the box. So this review was for a pick up order at Noah's Hof brau and for their well known Chinese food. For years, I've heard people mention Noah's which serves sandwiches besides their Chinese food. So I ordered the #26 Mongolian beef combination that has fried rice and chow mein. The fried rice and chow mein is already premade and behind the glass counter. The chow mein had a little pork with their noodles. Lucky for me, the Mongolian beef was cooked to order and just took about 6 mins wait. To me, this is what I consider the ideal Mongolian beef. Thin beef slices that is brown in appearance with a nice glaze. It comes with tons of green onions, chili peppers and onions and topped with crispy rice noodles. Theres a nice "hot" as in flavor taste to it but not strong. It's my favorite and I feel this beats Panda Express any day. 5 stars The place probably is busier during lunch being downtown so when i picked up my order, it was close to 5 pm and wasn't that busy. Thing that I notice is their menu on the wall says $12.50 for my #26 Mongolian beef combo and when I ordered 2, the guy just used his memory to punch in $28.85 on my credit card. So sales tax is 8.88% now and when I did the calculation, it should have been less. Not sure whether they didn't update their wall menu price. But that kind of irked me since I know some places charge an added fee for using a cc (which they have no disclosure). Either way, don't rely on their wall prices if you order there in person. Door dash has this priced at $15 for pick up but i ordered it at the counter when I got there. Still, one of the better Chinese food in Modesto read more

Get ready to place your order when it is your turn. There are multiple menu boards with similar combinations of food so be ready when asked. The line comes in waves and can be really long but it moves quickly. Had the burnt ends and orange chicken and it did not disappoint. The orange chicken was super crispy on the outside and all white meat chicken on the inside and then splashed with tastiest orange sauce. The burnt ends were crispy and had the right amount of chewy to please the palate with almost a candied taste. The ambiance is cafeteria style with plenty of seating. My food was so delicious I came back twice this week. I will be back. Did I mention its pretty reasonably priced compared to other places. Last but not least the serving sizes are huge. Wow, that Mongolian chicken, so good! We decided to stop by after going to the State Theater one Saturday. Someone else also recommended it saying the Mongolian chicken was good, they did not disappoint. The homer walnut shrimp was really good as well, made fresh upon ordering, cause I had to wait a few minutes. The service was friendly and quick. Nice little spot for a lunch tbh. read more

This place is sort of a diamond in the ruff...the sign is old so make sure you go slow down J street or you'll miss it (sign is hidden behind a tree). Is the atmosphere great? No, it is not. Is the older gentleman (maybe the owner?) nice? No usually...it's honestly a hit and miss. Will I keep coming back here? Absolutely!! Huge portions and delicious food! I went here for lunch today, took 17 minutes for my order to be taken. There was five people in front of us but they had at least 4 to 5 phone calls of orders in between that. I love ordering the honey walnut chicken, today was the first time back in over a year due to my coworker has not been able to go with. it is our thing.lol. honey walnut chicken combo was amazing today, my soda had fizz that was good. The only reason I am leaving the review is I DON'T recommend buying the fried asparagus, every single piece was the end. There was not one single tip out of any of them. I love this place so many options! Fresh food! And the prices are reasonable. They give you generous portions.

Me and my dad went here and got sandwiches. To keep it short and sweet. We weren't impressed to come back. It's not horrible but not a destination location, that's for sure. I don't like giving bad reviews, but no love in this menu what so ever. It's just a place for people to eat a quick lunch that work near by. Fantastic! Food is always delicious including the American food that they serve there. Open face turkey or beef sandwiches. Almost everything is fresh clean and efficient. Large portions so you can always have some leftovers. All in all great experience. read more

Chow mein is decent but the garlic chicken is horrible!! Super dry went in there tonight spend 50$ on food and it was the worst food I've bought. I could have got better food from panda and more food. I'm not really a fan of Chinese food but my mother took me here bc this is 1 of her fav places to get Chinese food at. I really didn't know what to get ao I got the fried rice,chow mein and a veggie egg roll. I was disappointed when I got home bc their default meat is pork and I should have remembered to request chicken but whatever, it's my fault. Food was okay. Noting spectacular. Anyway, the place is pretty spacious, the employees were friendly. Parking was right out front. I gave 4 stars bc service was pretty fast, employees were friendly and helpful & my whole family seems to love this place. Had a fantastic dinner last night from Noah's. We had their Mongolian beef combo with fried rice and chow mein, garlic chicken with only chowmein, a la cart order of their sweet and sour fish, and of course we had to get a order of their deep fried asparagus, which is a seasonal dish they offer every spring. The asparagus was delightful they pair it sweet and sour sauce and my husband appreciates it but I prefer it with ranch. Their Mongolian beef is divine the meat is nice and tender and they add a little crispy noodles on top that add a nice texture to the dish. The fish is delicious, we usually get it with black bean sauce but last night we got with a garlic sauce that was fantastic. Overall Noah's is delicious, highly recommend it if you want some good Chinese food. read more

My favorite place downtown for a filling meal and always feel so warm eating it! My go to is the garlic chicken and chow mein. The chicken in all sauce options are the same, unless you get breast, and it is SO crispy! Absolutely AMAZING! So much sauce and still so crunchy, the best! read more

They still do serve the roast in the turkey slice it with all the fixings and Chinese food top shelf it used to be over by the Cove a little hole in the wall and at lunchtime people would line up for blocks it was a take out when they moved next to the fox theater. Place was horrible, we had the Chinese and absolutely was not good. My daughter had the open face turkey sandwich and threw the whole thing in the garbage, wasted $15. The mashed potatoes were flakes mixed with water the most disgusting taste ever and we did not know what they made the gravy out of but it wasn't edible. The place was dirty. We were passing through Modesto some years ago--seven? --but Noah's Hof Brau remains a great memory thanks to our love for small restaurants that do more than one expects. It's better than the Chinese restaurants where we live, and the portions are generous. Order, eat and enjoy. If I were younger and on a first date, I'd go to Noah's. I've been going to get food at this place for about 25 years. I'm not been disappointed a single time. The people there are friendly, they remember you, and they're attentive to your food. The portions are good the prices are good and the food is cooked fresh everyday. I've gone there at lunch time. I've got there around 3:00. I've gone there in the evening. Every time the same taste and the food is nicely kept warm. This place has stayed alive through a fire, through downtown changes, through covid, and the food still fine. It is good to see a place like this stay open for such long time. I recommend it to everyone who likes eating good food at a reasonable price.
