From a dining point of view, Cooke City doesn't offer much...no surprise, it's a mountain town offering a launchpad to Yellowstone. That being said, we stopped by the Bistro for dinner. We spent the morning at Lamar Valley and decided to drop by the small quaint town for a quick breakfast. Not having internet connection, we tried this place out of whim. It's your average breakfast diner joint with limited menu options . I got the combo #1 which came with egg, choice of meat, pancake and toast. It was alright and expected. My son got the French coast combo #4 with choice of meat. My wife got the breakfast special. Overall, it filled our tummy but nothing to write a 4 stars review on. Reviews on this place nearly deterred us, but we passed some folks outside the visitor center in Cooke City eating delicious-looking fries and we had to try! We are so happy we did! The burgers were great - each of my kids had a bacon cheeseburger (two of them, hold the cheese) and they devoured them. I had a BLT which was very tasty and the fries loved up the hype. My husband and I stopped here for dinner after a long day of driving through Yellowstone. We were immediately greeted and seated at a large table. Stan was our server. Since this is a small restaurant in an isolated little town, some menu items weren't available (escargots, pork chops and salmon). They had many other good choices. My husband had tomato basil soup with ravioli and hamburger steak with yummy mushroom sauce (he wanted more), steamed vegetables and a baked potato. I read yelp reviews about their desserts, so we tried their chocolate fudge cake with fresh whipped cream. We devoured it even though we were full. They also had cheesecake. Personally I thought the tables were a little bit sticky but it could just be the plastic protection that is wrapped on the Real wood tables. I thought the menu was very small and simple I ordered the burgers and fries which were really really good. I didn't think menu was kind of weird, you have seafood burgers and fries and pasta dishes. Decided to grab lunch here after driving across Lamar valley. The place had both indoor and outdoor seating. It was a bit busy when we arrived around 12pm but got even busier when we left around 1pm. I went with the rainbow trout which was cooked in a pan. I wished they had a healthier version where it was grilled. It tasted ok. My included fries they were crunchy in terms of texture which is always a plus but tasted a bit dull as if they were out for a while. My wife went with the salad that had turkey. It was just an average salad. Finally we got two coffees and they were pretty cold. We had a weird incident where our waitress refused to give us the WiFi password stating it was for employee use only but overheard the other waitress giving it to another customer. Small breakfast spot in Cooke City to stop before heading into Yellowstone NP. Not much else was open so we decided to try this place out. The service was great. Not very busy here thankfully. Good was very filling and great. I ended up cleaning my plate and sharing across the table too! Bacon wasn't the usual crispy bacon I'm used to but still cooked and tasty though. Eggs and hash browns were fantastic and I was so full after stopping here! Coffee here wasn't quite a favorite though. I did hear that the coffee/tea at elevation can be a little weaker so I'm not sure if that's what it was. I'd recommend stopping in through if you are taking this route into or out of Yellowstone though. read more

Overall was not impressed with my experience I had the rainbow trout. it was very under seasoned and was not de boned upon bringing this up it was promptly comped. Our party also had the pesto fettuccine and hamburger steak and those were both very under seasoned. Our server was absolutely amazing, very nice and helpful throughout the entire experience. According to the Yelp reviews I've read, People say this place is overpriced but honestly this place isn't that expensive considering this restaurant is in the middle of nowhere. Check was $23 for 2 burgers, fries, and a cup of coffee. Sure the menu was pretty basic compared to your average restaurant, but everything was made fresh to order and the Fries were piping hot. Also the server was very attentive and laid back. The only gripe I had with this place is the lipstick stain on my girlfriends cup of coffee(time for new ones?). read more

His place I thought was pretty not great. It smelled old in a musty way in there. They don't have an actual espresso drink selection, but they did let me bring in a latte from the gas station. The waiter actually turned off the open sign once the restaurant was full instead of having people wait and then complained that people "couldn't read" the sign. I was able to order a kid's meal of the pasta (for $10 or $14) and it was actually quite good and a large enough portion that I couldn't finish it. I know that there aren't that many dining options here in Cooke City, but please do yourself a favor and skip this place. We came here for dinner after leaving Yellowstone National Park. The bistro restaurant, with its cabin-like appearance and glistening lighting, looks inviting and promising from the outside. However, dining here was a different story. Food was adequate, but for over $20 a dish it was not worth it. Service was horrible. Our server was dressed in clothes that you would see on someone walking down the street. However, he was actually dressed a lot better than his coworker whose shorts had fallen down so low that his boxer was sticking out of his behind. Our server also didn't speak good English. There were communication problems during the food ordering process. And on top of everything, he didn't bring us silverwares when he brought us our food. I asked him for a bottle of ketchup to go with the fries and he came back with an empty bottle. We ordered the seafood fetuccini and the seafood cassoulet. We came in about 15 to close looking for somewhere to eat after we drove through the Lamar valley, and realized we were screwed, since most everything in Cooke City closes at 10. Cooke city have very few places to eat. This was the closet place to our motel. We went to this bistro around 8:00 pm. We ordered pesto pasta amd chicken breast. Although, staff and food was good but the wait time was long. It took them 50 mins to serve when the bistro was not even full. read more

This place was beyond awful. From being sneered at as "tourists" before we walked in to the awful service to the bad food. It's not pleasant paying $13 for fettuccine Alfredo while you can LOUDLY hear your server and the cook arguing. And when she wasn't in the kitchen to be yelled at he would come find her on the floor and accost her. The rest of the guests and I kept staring at each other incredulously. We came to Yellowstone at the time where only the North Entrance was open. The road ended at Cook City. We stopped by here and had cheese burger, grilled chicken sandwich, and grilled cheese sandwich. I don't recommend the grilled chicken sandwich. The cheese burger was super delicious. It was juicy and big. My husband is vegetarian and he added mushroom to his grilled cheese sandwich. The guy who took our order was also the cook and worked behind the register. One of the worst meals we had on out 2 week trip. The wait staff did not know what they were doing, they did not speak very good English and were dressed in clothing that would of been better suited for the river. The food was bad. I ordered the Pork Chop dinner and it was the toughest piece of meat I have ever eaten ant the veggies were still frozen. One of the folks in our party ordered a chicken breast meal with a baked potato and when he go it the potato had a large black spot in it and the chicken was semi frozen.
