We are visiting Lamar Valley in the Yellowstone National Park and staying in Cooke city. We reached late last night around 8:35 pm and our host told us about Miners saloon for dinner. Great ambience and our hostess Nicole was amazing. She had the warmest smile and was very helpful overall. We ordered buffalo wings, kids cheese pizza and one make your own pizza. The wings were amazing, I would give 10/10 great taste and crispness. Pizzas were fine too. My husband had an old fashioned and he loved it! We had the worst experience I could imagine at the Miners Saloon in Cooke City, MT. We arrived just after they had opened about, 4;00 PM. We were not greeted or seated, then we were told we would have to wait. We waited, 45 mins later, we had a table. Eventually we were able to order. Over an hour and a half later, our food arrived. While we were waiting, we were told, that our order, was somehow lost, and they did comp one of our pizzas. ...but the truth is, the atmosphere was hostile, the barman was a troll, the service was an example of incompetence. Great spot to wet your whistle and grab a bite after a long day in the park. Recently spend a few nights in Cooke City, staying in the Alpine Motel. The Miner's Saloon across the street was a nightly routine, grabbing a local beer, talking with the staff and locals, and other fellow travelers, and grabbing a bite. We were staying across the street at the Alpine. This was the closes place to eat. As the menu were put down, we were informed of the items they were out of. As I looked at the menu, it made me giggle. Lots of things crossed off, what wasn't were the items she mentioned. The answer is they have pizza and burgers. Disappointed. This was our second visit this season, the first being the day or so after opening. The employees had masks on, and the place was busy enough for us to be seated in the back room...along with a loud, drunk, video-slot playing patron who obviously needed attention. We ordered the large double pepperoni; sausage; Canadian bacon and cheese pizza. Same as we did last visit. The crust was about an 1/8" thick; barely any sauce, not much cheese, and definitely not double pepperoni. Burnt and just not very good. We ordered a few PBRs with which to wash it down. Since Cooke City has very few options, you'd hope they'd make the most of what they serve, and keep standards up. Last time, the cook came out flinging some pizza dough while cooking to some awesome kitchen Jazz music. Didn't hear that this time. Maybe that's a clue. read more

We rolled into the "coolest town in Montana" Cooke, MT. We were staying at the Super 8, which I also reviewed. I asked the front desk clerk which place was the best. He recommended the Miner Saloon and the Bistro. I was hungry for pizza so saloon it was! Place looked inviting on the outside and was packed on the inside. Good sign. They have an over flow room with plenty of seats as well as several gambling machines. We decided to sit at the bar. We were promptly served drinks by the bartender. Water tasted great. The menu was short but had enough selection for those not interested in pizza. We ordered the large pizza and it was certainly a large one! Value is very goo itd. Our second visit this summer season; the second not as good as the first. Ordered a large double pepperoni; sausage; Canadian bacon and cheese pizza. Barely had any toppings what so ever and the crust was burnt. You can only blame so many things on Covid. Plus, the loud-mouthed drunk playing the slot machine didn't help the ambiance. Also, please fix the toilet in the ladies room; both times we have been here this summer season (with a few weeks off in between) the toilet handle has been broken. If you're staying in silver gate or cooke city don't hesitate to grab dinner here after a day in the park. Fantastic beer selection on tap and in cans. Menu is very diverse and can cater to pretty much anyone. I got the cali chicken sand which and other got the burger. My sandwich was great and they all loved their burgers. Salad it game with was great. Mostly made up of arugula. Balsamic dressing was made in house and delicious. Waiter was quick to fill your glass and make sure you were taken care of. read more

Considering it's location in a very small mountain town on the northeast corner of Yellowstone National Park we were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is lively and the wait staff is fun. The menu includes an unexpected array of items from chicken wings and pizza to summer rolls and banh mi sandwich. We got the summer rolls, which had braised shiitake mushrooms and homemade pickled vegetables - very tasty. The sticky wings and bison burger were good as well! I have never been in a dirtier eating area in my life. The carpeted floor was greasy and looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in a month. The table tops had been cleaned, but the supports below had dried condiments and more grease coating them. My husband insisted that it was ambiance, but I felt it was filth. Went here for a quick dinner upon the recommendation from our inn (antler inn great place to stay!) the pizza is fantastic and the drinks are excellent too. Our server, Andy, was super nice and his service great. We saddled up to the bar after we ate; the bartender was complete tool -that's the reason it's only a 4 star review. Good food and drinks but some of the bartenders are awful. We've had bad experiences with a couple of the workers multiple times.

My wife and I were in town for a couple of nights for our anniversary. Looked to try Miners our last night, and as we walked to it during a late-season blustery and snowy evening we wondered as we approached if it was even open. Just looked dark inside, though the open sign said otherwise. Open the door, tunes playing, people talking and laughing; it was on! We were told by the bartender that their pizza was the "best in the country". Since we had heard about their pizzas, and had a couple go walking by once we were inside, that was the direction we went. My wife almost fell off her chair with first bite, in pure pizza ecstasy;) Yes, it was excellent! Best in the country??? Well it could be right up there. And, being in Cooke City, MT; well that is pretty damn cool! Good selection of craft beers, wife had a couple of solid gin and tonics. Great vibe this night, good tunes playing, several groups playing foosball and pool, or just hanging-out. It is cash only, but hey, we have to pay for it eventually anyway. I found myself in Cooke City one snowy night after a drive through Yellowstone and stopped at Miners Saloon for a bit to eat and a beer. It was Dec. 30th and a lot of people were in town with snow mobiles. I was talking to the guy next to me at the bar and he asked if I was riding and I told him I just got in town and this is the first time I've ever seen a snow mobile. He told me it was a big party during New Years weekend and that I should stay to check it out. I had planned to only be in town for an hour or so but I was having a good time and eating some great food in Miners Saloon and before I know it, it was snowing so I walked across the street and booked a room. After a shower I walked back to Miners Saloon and didn't leave until closing and had a great time. The food was excellent and a lot of it and a good beer selection. One bartender was really slow and the other seemed to be on coke or something but she was really cool and fast. There was one girl that had earrings all over her face (I think a bar back and I forgot her name) that was really cool and fun to talk to. I will come back to Miners Saloon next time I'm in town and would recommend it to all. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants and bars on earth. Located just outside the north-eastern entrance of Yellowstone this is a gem located in the depths of grizzly country. Chances are when you visit most everyone there will be locals, giving the visitor a great opportunity to glimpse the small town life. Residing in LA, I love visiting this small town hangout to remember not every restaurant is concerned with funneling as many people in and out as possible. If ever I was to live in a small town, the locals at Miners Saloon have convinced me this would be a great place to relocate myself. In fact our lovely waitress was from Pasadena. I never cease to come away with fond memories when visiting Cooke City's Miners Saloon. My friends and I typically order two servings of their elk sliders as an appetizer and then order two pizzas (the best sliders and pizza on earth if I may be so bold). One of my favorite things about Yellowstone is that the Miners Saloon is so near. Do your stomach a favor and visit this place. Your muscles and mind need rejuvenation after a long day of roughing it in the great outdoors. read more

However our waitress was very rude, eye rolls, sarcastic, hateful. This would have been our best meal out if she was more friendly. This is an utter gem. We live in the Bay Area and enjoy fine dining. The quality of the food at this non descript bar is astounding. So I've been coming to cooke for years and eat and drink here at least a few nights over our trips. After the last visit I will never spend another dime in this establishment again. We ate there the night before and had drinks and our waitress was good. I left a 20% tip in cash(cash only establishment) the next night my wife and I were having a drink and our waitress from the night before was falling off her bar stool drunk(off shift). As she walked to the bathroom she threw a shoulder in me and said "thanks for the great tip last night" confused I confronted her and she began calling me a liar and insisted I didn't leave her a tip the night before. I said yes I did I left an $18 tip and she was livid insisting I did not tip her. There was no sense in arguing with a drunk so I told her to talk to her co workers for not tipping her out at the end of the night and she kept on so we left. I do not appreciate being called a liar and calling out a customer for something as stupid as a tip on or off shift at the same place you work is not a great way to represent the establishment or yourself. I come to cooke to get away from everything. I don't come to get involved in petty drama. If you get the waitress with feathers in her hair, I suggest you request someone else. The miners won't get another dollar out of me. And one last thing.... be normal and make ranch dressing an option. read more

This place is a dump. We stopped in Monday since we were stuck staying in this unfriendly town while on a motorcycle tour. The bartender during the day was more interested in socializing with a regular, the only guy in the place. They don't have working bathrooms, was told there's a port a potty outside. Miners is a very cool bar and restaurant to visit in the summer or winter. I was suprised at how great the food was. We had a group of 6 and tried most of the items on the menu and all were good. Today, One of their staff screamed obscenities at my group after a few of us moved the foosball table after a waitress ask us to do so because the lights in top of it were out. I asked the motel front desk. They told me bear tooth cafe, the bistro, and minner saloon are places can not be wrong. But minner saloon is the only pizza place in town. The menu is very simple. One page menu with one side pizza and one side BBQ dinner. Draft beer wrote on the wall. We had half redneck and half veggie pizza. Just right to feed 3 person. Thin crust with great flavor. The most surprising is the price compare to the quality.can not believe a traveler destination can beat the town I am living. We all satisfy with the simple dinner. read more
