They found us a seat w/o a proper reservation, and the place was lively. Ordered the hummingbird, which was unexpectedly herbaceous. Tangy with smoky undertones. Refreshing. I quite enjoyed it. The husband got the bellhop, which he said was fine but not mind blowing. We ordered the Chicken liver toast, fried mozzarella, and chicken sandwich hot and spicy. The husband got the mussels. Chicken liver toast was served w mustard seed and berry compote, which highlighted the buttery fatness. The toast wasn't crunchy and a bit difficult to cut, but the pickled vegetables were fantastic. The fried mozzarella was simple and decently executed, somewhat generic and forgettable. Better than standard mozzarella sticks. The fries were crisp and perfectly seasoned. A+. That chicken sandwich was toothsome and juicy. Def worthy of a repeat visit. I'll be thinking abt this sandwich for a while. Of his mussels, the husband appreciated the spicy broth but was underwhelmed by the crusty bread it accompanied. I've always really liked this place. It's been around a long time and is a bit nicer than an average pub. I've also always loved the burger! BUT... I went tonight, and the price now for a burger and fries is $27. Two years ago it was $17. That's a 58% increase on a burger and fries in two years. The price of beef has increased significantly over the past two years, but not by 58%. A $27 burger at a pub is a reason not return. Stop raising prices crazy amounts. The Black Cat was an amazing time! The service here is great, super friendly staff and very attentive! We went with a large group of 9 people and they were very accommodating. We started off with many appetizers. We tried the fries with and without truffle. I would say it's okay to skip the additional truffle since they combine it with parmesan -- would only get if you're a fan of both! Also, a lot of the entrees come with a side of fries! The brussels sprouts were amazing and had a lot of different layers of flavors, both sweet and smoky. The green beans were good, but not a must get! The calamari was fried well but the pieces were a bit small. I ordered the burger as my entree. It was a huge burger and came with a side of fries. I loved the bun and it was quite fluffy. The flavors of the burger with the meat, sauce, cheese and pickles pair well together. I do think some parts of either my bun or patty were a bit burnt and you could definitely taste that. Fun spot for a night out! We went at about 10pm on a Friday and waited like 10 minutes for a table of 3. I enjoyed the Breakfast Buck since it had a unique smoky taste. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Candy Cigarette. It was a little too syrup-y for me. The music was pretty loud the night we went, so it was hard to hear the my friends sitting in front of me. There's a nice patio out in front, but the real flex is the big corner patio which is both open yet still private, adorned in greenery, and perfect for long hangs and good conversations. Lowkey confused why this spot isn't rated higher because everything hit. Service was on point, cocktails were legit, and the food absolutely delivered. So much so I peeked in the kitchen and thanked the chef. The garlic shrimp is a must order. Like, don't even think about skipping it! Perfectly cooked, super flavorful, and plated beautifully. The fish and chips stayed crispy all the way through (rare and appreciated), and the cavatelli was super creative with this subtle mint undertone that somehow works really well. We traveled through some potholed and graveled streets in L.A. for this place on Sunday and it was worth it. Just a heads up when its 2pm Sunday, just come in they don't open the doors. We had a great waitress Lady V. She seated us and had the menus with the bottled water ready. Cocktails! We had the chocolate covered banana and the code name....The bartendar was the real deal! Those drinks from the first taste had us ready for the second round! The yellow jacket (reminds me of a naked and famous) was really good. Now for the food. The burger as juicy and cooked just the way I like it with just a little pink in the middle. Make sure you get your fries with truffle on them. Caeser salad, shrimp toast, cavatelli all good and for dessert that bread pudding is worth two hours on the treadmill. Great service, great bartendar and good food. That's how you do a Sunday! If you're looking for a nice chill bar for cocktails, this place offers just that. We stopped by right after they opened which was quiet. Obviously, think we were like the second couple to arrive. There's the main bar counter area, you have the dining area as well as the outdoor front counter and picnic tables outside around the building. Outside, you could order from the QR code. It was nice out so a pint of beer and people watching right outside the entrance. Im not sure if they have happy hour on the weekend but by the time we were finished, the bar area was full. What a gem, especially with such historic and cultural meaning for the LGBTQ+ community! The food, wine list and service were all excellent. The food was better than I expected, especially their salad and steak. The beet salad was amazing and the steak was cooked to perfect medium rare. We enjoyed the chicken liver toast, which pared beautifully with the gamay we got. Moreover enjoyed the cavatelli pasta dish we got with calabrian peppers (don't see if on the online menu now). Finally, we finished with the basque cheesecake, which is my favorite cheesecake. Could be a bit more caramelized but enjoyed every bite. I was told they had an interesting wine menu and they did. They got me at Gamay but had another Spanish Red, Trepat, I have never had that was somewhere between a pinor noir and a sancerre rouge chilled. Also had the Cinsault, I didn't get to try yet. We had a great server who fit the vibe. Welcoming and friendly and kept with the temp of our meal. My go-to spot after a long day at work. Love their Lambrusco. Sammy is the bar manager there and she's absolutely lovely, all about the community vibes she creates at the bar. I've tried a couple of dishes (tuna crudo is a fav), their kitchen is usually closed by the time I'm off work-- I believe 10pm is the cut off most days. Very vegetarian friendly menu for my planty friends. I also appreciate the decor, the history + art throughout the space. It's a definitely a Silverlake staple for me. Came here on a Saturday afternoon for drinks with a friend. The greeter was friendly and we liked the vibe of the bar especially the cat themed menu. Stayed for a couple hours catching up. The drinks are on the pricier side but hey, it's Silver Lake. My only issue is that the female bartender made the cocktail drinks consistently not filled to the top so on top of a $20 drink, I only received $16 worth of it and had to tip on $20. Everyone in the bar who had a cocktail in a cup were shortchanged when served. However, when the male bartender made drinks, his pours were consistently what you'd expect at a bar. Stopped by for a drink here with a few friends and wow what a vibe. It's nice and loungey on the inside with plenty of booth seating. The drinks were also quite solid, and well made. No complaints - and on the stronger side as well! It's a great place for a date or to catch up with a few friends. The space is dimly lit. Music not too loud. There's some bar seating near the entrance as well. The service was kind and quick. We unfortunately didn't get a chance to eat here but would consider it next time! I came here to have a beer out on the front patio during sunset. I waited 15 minutes for the female bartender to come and give me a menu. She never did, so I grabbed one from a little pile I found nearby. The bartender wasn't busy. Just chatting with her male coworker who was busily making drinks. After another long wait, she finally comes over and takes my order for an asahi beer-- the only beer listed on the many with alcohol in it. The other beers are non-alcoholic (how weird, what's the point??). She grabs a bottle and opens it without a word, smacks it on the bar in front of me. I pay my check and take it outside to the patio. After a few sips, I realize she gave me a non-alcoholic beer with natural flavors. Ugh. I don't even bother to correct it knowing she won't even come over if I go inside. Worst service. Even worse beer selection. Along with that, a feeling of serious surveillance on the patio-- cameras facing you every direction you turn. Who wants all this surveillance while they're eating and drinking?! No go. read more

They were a bit dry and nothing special. I had the squash risotto. It was creamy with basil pesto flavor and cubes of squash. It was a bit bland, so I added some salt that helped. *first time here* 4 stars because service was great, food was tasty, drinks are so good and ambiance is very cute. Birthday vibes were sadly mid though. For $200+ spent on 2 meals, 1 app + drinks + tip, I was brought a candle on a plate with our check laid across it (mind you I asked for the check while my guest was away). My girlfriend, who we were celebrating, was in the bathroom, so the candle melted in the mean time. Two servers helped our table. First server left before we finished our dinner and we got passed off to another gentleman (again both servers were fantastic and helpful), it just felt like we were switching gears in the middle of our meals because we were told explicitly "you don't have to pay with/tip me personally, we pool tips". 4% gratuity is added to each table, as it should be, to pay out bussers and server help (the servers do not keep/split this fee), please don't ask to remove the charge, which is an option on the receipt, because their staff deserves it. All in all, 5 stars would not be awarded because the birthday vibe was completely put off when you put a candle on the check. Nothing is expected, but at that point, just don't do anything at all and call it a day. I've literally been directly in front of The Black Cat, post coffee at Intelligentsia, venturing into Rough Trade, stopping by Sweetgreen, leaving the El Cid and so many other fun outings in the area, but my impromptu 2nd date with a pretty fun gent sparked an evening of food, cocktails, and cozy vibes at this mood-lit tavern. When you enter you'll be greeted by an amazing host who will kindly pass you to an amazing server for your time well spent at The Black Cat. The menu is super fun and pretty easy and not too long... I was hungry having just come from a bar crawl from the Eagle and then over to El Cid before we strolled over, but Noah was definitely in need of a little more food than me. They had literally just made and served the last veggie burger for the night.... single tear emoji so I made do with some sides and Noah shared his salad with me. The Cat Snack is a perfect combo of bites for some day hanging with a beverage in hand inside or out as they have some outdoor seating which is perfect for a day soaking up the sun or taking in the flow on this section of Sunset with a nice glass of something. Roasted Beet Salad, Potato gnocchi, and Burgers are what I'd recommend. As far as I know, you can customize. So items might even say vegan as an option (I personally wish for more), but tons are vegetarian by default. While Happy Hour is from 4 to 6 PM during the week, you still have choices and deals for wine, beer plus both signature and classic cocktails. They don't offer wine flights, but if you're lucky enough to make the Happy Hour, you can probably make shift your own, as I plan to do! The service is great, they have several gluten free & vegan options (I suggest their veggie burger) and I had no idea that this location is the first documented LGBT civil rights demonstration in the nation (2/11/67)!
