Aesthetic: Whimsical tea shop with beautiful decor, teas, and an array of pastries. My Favorites: The atmosphere! Experience: I had an amazing experience relaxing here on a road trip, but I think I ordered all the wrong items, I need a do over to try savory foods and tea that I love. I didn't want to say anything because the servers were so sweet. I ordered a Secret Garden tea iced, and I think that was my first mistake, it wasn't steeped long enough before it was iced so it was super bland. I'm used to making super strong teas. My husband had a delicious earl grey that I shared with him. We also ordered the cornbread cookie and the black and white to split, and even though they were beautiful, they were too sweet for us. We will try the savory pastries or sandwiches next time, I'm convinced we just didn't order the right things for us. Can't wait to come back one day, this spot is gorgeous. read more

The turtle cheesecake here is one of my top five favorite desserts of all time. WOW. Really loved coming her with my dad and sister. They have a ton of teas to choose from, along with both drip and French press options for coffee. Many syrups, as well, to add to coffee or tea. Their desserts are fresh and the price is fair. Nestled in downtown Asheboro this is a quaint little tea cafe with lots of tasty treat options and big fun. I appreciate that they seem to always be celebrating something fun and having their menu reflect the festivities and themes of the day or week. They are constantly rotating their baked goods and sandwiches so I also appreciate that they keep their social media up to date on their latest treats of the day. New to the area, looking for delicious baked goods and teas. Stopped in before shopping at the antique store next door and I've been back a few times since. I've had a Moroccan Tea, a Chai Tea, an Oolong Tea, Farmhouse Chicken Salad and Pimiento Cheese that they sell in containers from inside the case, too many different kinds of cookies than I dare to admit, and a few slices of their standard cheesecake. The cookies are amazing. But it's the cheesecake that keeps me coming back. The cheesecake and the chicken salad actually. My lunch buddy and I decided to take advantage of a gorgeous day and visit the NC Zoo ... but first we needed lunch. We parked downtown and stumbled across the Black Lantern right as the noon rush started. But it was well worth the wait it took to get our sandwiches. I had the Italian sandwich and it was enormous and tasty. I'm embarrassed that I could only finish half of it. My buddy finished his. I was hesitant to try Black Lantern for lunch and I regret that choice because I was missing out on something great! I wish I would have tried it sooner. (I had visited before to grab dessert--if they have the fluffernutter bar, get it!!!) I am kind of picky--I don't like wraps for sandwiches. I had my heart set on the chicken Caesar wrap so I asked for it on a bun. It was a great choice! The dressing was tangy and not heavy like some Caesar dressings can be. The chicken was spectacular. I had to eat it with a fork because it was so big and full of goodness! I got a sprinkle cookie and a sweet tea to drink. The cookie was super soft and had a good flavor. What a gem here in downtown Asheboro. Stopped in after going to the nearby zoo and it was a great experience. I have to come back here. Their tea selection is special. I tried the Serene tea latte and it had wonderful notes of lavender and mint, and a few other things. It worked and it was one of a kind. Their small stromboli was delicious and hit the spot. I really appreciated their low prices as well. Why even think about going to Starbucks with great places like this around. Very clean establishment with friendly folks working there. read more

Total hidden gem here. Came in here only cause they advertised outside Hot Buttered Apple Cider. Though the cider was on the higher end of the price tag it was also one of the best ones we've had. Coming back to this place next time we're in Asheboro. read more

Inviting vibe and nice service. This place got a big menu for tea and food. Some food items are seasonal and look very interesting though I didn't try. I got iced matcha latte with oat milk. It was terrible. Not only was the matcha flavor very hard to taste (too much milk and too little matcha powder) but also that the matcha powder itself was very low quality and didn't taste right. They seem to get a lot of tea options including international ones, and I would like to give them the benefit of doubt. However, for now I'd like to give them two stars and suggest that they either take Matcha off the menu or look for some better quality Matcha powder. Some other coffee shops around the corner have much better matcha. read more

Delicious food on the menu and the best cheesecakes around. The plain cheesecake is our favorite however they do have multiple flavors that they switch out. We also like the plain chicken salad and pimento cheese. The staff is always very friendly and helpful and patient. Has a cozy ambience with different sized dining room tables in the sitting areas. FYI: when they say Tea Room, they mean tea. The only coffee available is one kind of regular drip coffee, while they offer a lot of varieties of tea--even tea lattes. They opened at 8 a.m., and several people were ready. It's a beautiful building, and the namesake black lantern is incredible. There are other, smaller black lanterns throughout--all with greenery draped down from it. The baked goods are almost all sweet options. I got a savory one (chicken and cheese pastry)--but they didn't offer to heat it. It was good for a snack, but didn't fill us up. We ended up going to McDonalds for more protein. So--go here for tea and for a pastry snack, but not for a meal. We didn't see an tea sandwiches or anything like I expected at a tea room, though maybe they pull those out later? What we had was really good, but didn't completely hit the mark for us and our expectations. read more

We couldn't resist stopping at a few places every time were in Asheboro. We stopped here for a latte and quick breakfast snack. Unless you go early in the morning, lots of their food will be sold out. We went 30 mins after they opened and they were sold out of a few of their bfast sandwiches so we got the sausage, egg and Gouda on focaccia. The focaccia seemed like it wasn't as fresh but the sausage and egg was perfectly cooked. I would recommend trying the scones and muffins as those looked a bit better. read more

I stopped by Black Lantern yesterday because I saw they have savory pastries. First of all suuuuper cute place and it was busy but not so busy that I got impatient and I didn't have to wait hardly at all for my to go order Now the food. I got two steak n cheese one ham and pepper jack and a tomato and cheese pastry I brought them home and stuck them in the the fridge and did some chores around the house. When I was done to treat myself I made a cup of espresso and warmed up the steak and cheese in the microwave wrapped in a damp paper towel for 15 seconds. Oh my gawd it was sooooo good! My did not want to finish eating it because I enjoyed Avery single bite! Flaky buttery soft pastry with a good amount of steak and not too much cheese. The perfect balance. It was great as it was but would also be amazing with a cup of soup. Hint...Black Lantern. Maybe you should have a soup of the day. Or maybe sometimes you do and I'm just unaware So next morning for brunch I guess I heated up the tomato and cheese the same way and it was just as amazing as the steak and cheese. I made some homemade potato soup and if my boyfriend doesn't eat the remaining two pastries I'm going to have one with some soup later and I know I'll be just as over the moon as I have been with the other two I ate. Aside from food the drinks menu at Black lantern Tea Room is quite extensive and creative. Next time I go if I have time I'll order a tea latte with a pastry and relax. I did see on their social media that they have special events like a Harry Potter Day with special drinks for the occasion so check out their FB page Listen Asheboro NC isn't known for much but their amazing zoo but it's downtown area is starting to come alive with restaurants, tap rooms wine bars and speakeasies so if you're coming for the zoo do yourself a favor and skip the fast food joints and big chains on HWY 64 and find your way downtown for something surprisingly different and amazing read more

I am all about supporting small businesses in my local community and this is one of those businesses that definitely has earned my 5 star review. This place is absolutley stunning on the inside. I love the vintage decor and the place is always spotless . Its located in a great little spot on sunset in te downtown district . They have a menu of teas, coffee, pastries, desserts and lunch items. One of the best things about this place is that they switch thisngs up daily ! So everyday the dessert and pastry selections are different. This place is sure to have something to everyones liking. you can check their FB page daily for an updated menu. I do believe that they have some of the best cheese cake I have ever had in my life ( the turtle cheesecake was so good I forgot to take a photograph of it ). The piece seriouly could feed a family its so huge however I must admit i did not share mine I ate on it over a course of three days. The banana pudding cookie is so moist and just absolutely amazing. I also enjoy the farmhouse chicken salad it has chunks of chicken and is great for a light lunch choice. The veggie and goat cheese pastry is a must try also. If you are in Asheboro you just have to stop in I promise you will find something in here that you want to try. This place has always been a morning go-to for me (coffee, tea, pastries), but now they offer a full lunch menu!! We both had the Cubano because we wanted something toasty, and it was amazing!! It is a pretty decent size sandwich, and I was anticipating having left overs..though I did not. This particular sandwich comes with these thick sliced sweet horseradish pickles?! AMAZING! This is a very new tea room in downtown Asheboro. They just had their Grand Opening on October 6th., 2021...so it's just been a little over a month...Been thinking of trying it from the day they first opened, but I just get a chance to visit them today. I'm very pleased of my visit today, cause we don't have many tea rooms around. And I love tea rooms!! This place is small but a cute little place to spend an afternoon, chillin' down after a long day...a place I'd love to hang out with my friends. They have quite of selection of teas....coffee....and just this holiday season they add 4 more teas to the menu to choose. Good thing is the Pastries and other sweets are changing every day...so you won't get bored. They also have few salads, pudding.... Parking is super easy....they have free public parking next to the building and street parking as well... So come and try....you are going to love this place.... read more

I loved the ambiance of the tea house and the decor definitely added to that. Our server was so helpful in advising us which tea we would like. I love the black in the decor inside. Called in a cubano sandwich a couple of weeks ago. It was excellent. Definitely in the top 2 I've had anywhere. I don't remember what my wife got but she loved it too. The staff were friendly and they had our sandwiches ready in good time. We picked up and ate in the park but I did notice the inside of the Tea Room was nicely decorated and clean. Try them out. One of the best Italian Subs that I have ever had. The prices were reasonable and we will be back! Highly recommend!
