We hadn't been to this location since it was Kabers. We actually were going to another location but it was closed. We went across the street to The Blackhawk. The large horseshoe bar was packed with Packer fans. We went into the restaurant area. Dave ordered the French Dip, Sara Chicken Salad, Cathy and Ron home fried chicken. All the orders exceptional. Chicken with mashed potatoes and corn delicious. The Chicken Salad was delicious and huge. The home fried chicken just delicious. Service spot on. Frankly we didn't pay much attention to ambience. This is not an old fancy steakhouse that you will see your grandparents at on a Friday at 4 pm... it's a relic bar with lots of stuff on the wall.. (did not go into the dining room) I Love the atmosphere though... A bar with two levels that makes it unique.. The staff was great... Guessing Becky is owner or manager.. she knows how to make you feel welcome and obviously has plenty of knowledge on how to run a bar and restaurant.. yep, just met her mom who is training to help with their St. Paddy's Day Celebration and has done every aspect of The Restaurant Industry... Yep, the place is unique and surprises the hell out of those expecting something different! You wont find what your looking for, unless it's some dark old school drinkin' & eatin'. The unsuspecting out-of-towner couldn't be more obvious than a 'Deer in Headlights'! Fortunately the natives are friendly and the bartenders will hook you up with a classic 'Old Fashioned' of epic proportions. A kick-ass example of Wisconsin's official cocktail. The vintage bar itself is the attraction; probably a mile and a half long and meanders more than the Mississippi River. We were in town for on a Sunday Night for a golfing trip had planned to go to Mulligans ( it was a golfing trip). They were closed, despite their web site saying otherwise. I know sign of the times. The Blackhawk across the street was open and packed, the eight of us walked in and I thought this is gonna be ugly, but we were hungry! I could not have been more wrong. The waitress was wonderful (Becky). The cocktails were all Wisconsin. The service was really good. I was expecting it would be bad at best. There were only 2 waitresses and it was packed, but they were awesome. Now the FOOD I could go on and on but let's just say we had eight people ordering mostly different things and Everyone loved Everything. So glad Mulligans was closed. read more

My group attended this restaurant/bar/music venue on a Saturday night. Halfway through dinner the band started and you couldn't have a conversation on t was so loud. We prearranged a buffet service. The beef was excellent but the potatoes were bland and the fish was nondescript. For what we got it was mediocre and overpriced but what do you except for a buffet. Well, I guess something better. Went here with my wife in a road trip. Seeing the reasonably nice Yelp reviews we decided to swing by. The service was okay for the most part -- not super talkative or anything, which is fine. We were the only people in the dining side of the restaurant. The menus were very clearly printed off from a print in a Default font, but the food looked good and the prices were cheap. I got a Reuben, my wife got fish tacos, and we split some onion rings. The onions rings were really good, and the reuben was alright. The fish tacos, on the other hand, were soaked through in salsa. It was just a fish fillet, romaine, and liquid salsa on a store bought tortilla which was ridiculously soggy. When we got the bill, there was a little tag on it saying that they don't accept card and only cash. This is weird, because there's a sign in the front window that clearly shows that they take Visa and Mastercard. We also were never told during our entire time that they only take cash, and there were no signs in the dining area or in the bar that said that they only take cash. I had to go their "convenient" ATM to get money to buy the food. The place has potential, but I wouldn't come here again. read more

A local favorite! Love the vintage Prairie du Chien decor and atmosphere! The Blackhawk is owned by the same family that owns The Black Angus Super Club, which is known for their delicious high quality steak and seafood. Like the Black Angus, the Blackhawk also features some delicious steak and seafood, but also has other menu items like burgers, fresh caught bluegills and catfish, and pizza. They offer great food at a lower price point than the Black Angus, but the quality of the food is still very high! While the Blackhawk's restaurant is very good, the Blackhawk is really known for its bar and lounge. This place is always full on the weekends and with a good local crowd. They host a variety of live music and DJ's which always makes for a fun time. They have a big location that features a cozy fireplace, comfortable lounge chairs and couches near the fireplace, a shuffle board table, darts, and gambling machines. The Blackhawk is also a great place to go if you want to catch a game. They have a few TV's including a GIANT TV in the center of the bar. They also offer up some great drink specials! Overall, they have a large variety of beer a liquor including many top shelf options. Their bartenders also do a great job... Tommy has been bartending at this location for many years. My wife and I went there tonight and we both had the cod fish fry and we really enjoyed our experience. This place has some old time character and charm. It's not fancy but it's comfortable and I feel like every chair has a history that would be great to hear. Head in with no expectations and you will not be disappointed read more

Walked in at 730 on a Friday. Was told it was a 45 minute wait because of 3 large tables, even though half of their tables were empty. What kind of place is annihilated by three 8 tops coming in?! Then went to the bar to wait. Figured we could eat there and at least put our order in. Took 10 minutes to get out drinks. Then sat there for 20 more minutes being completely ignored. Ironically it wasn't till we were packing up to leave that someone asked if they could help us. I'm sure they may be good on good night. But it should t be a news flash that people are going to want to eat on a Friday night!!!!! read more

Ordered a filet medium and it was rare enough that the inside was lukewarm at the most. Seafood platter (cod, shrimp and lobster) had the same seasoning on all the seafood and it was over seasoned for any normal person (which was also visibly evident-it resembled "blackened" seafood). When we mentioned it, the server seemed disinterested and said she's worked there for a year and never had a complaint. She asked if we wanted the steak "warmed up a bit" and didn't offer to rectify the seafood. We declined the offer after already sharing we had another place we had to get to. No comp was offered. Wasted $60 and left bummed, hungry and irritated. Not a chance I'd return. I agree with the other reviews about the lackluster service. I'm just pissed we wasted good hard earned money. I try to get to the Blackhawk every friday night I am in town. Their fish special (battered cod) is by far the best in town. It is also served other nights, even if not on the menu. The only thing this place is missing the mark on is service. It seems most times we are there, service is very slow. We often have to leave the table to get more drinks at the bar. Also, it looks like the menu is typed up in word and printed. Great casual restaurant for a great meal with a good selection at dinner. read more

I was hungry and had never been here, so I thought I'd give it a try. Besides meat, all I saw on the cheaply printed piece of paper that was the menu was fried fish this and fried fish that. I asked if they had any vegetables and was told they had coleslaw or side salad. I was not about to pay $15 for a half a chicken breast with a piece of cheese and some button mushrooms (the "Swiss chicken"), so I ordered the seafood platter. Both the shrimps and both pieces of cod were good sized and tasted ok. The clams seemed like mostly fried breading. The slaw was crunchy but floating in a mayonnaise sauce. The potato accompanying was just more filling on the plate. Service was probably well intended, but not as attentive to my small party as to larger groups who came after. I was served the slaw ten minutes or so before the meal and asked how it was. I didn't touch it as I prefer all my food served at once, not piece meal. The one thing I asked for was not remembered until the meal was finished. Disappointing. For this, I paid $16. I won't be back...and I probably won't go to the other restaurant owned by the same folks. Oh, they don't accept credit cards. read more
