It seemed to be more of a Ceviche than a crudo....but it was very good. We decided to order two entrees off the specials menu and split them. The Gulf Grouper ($38) and the Orecchiette Pasta in Wild Boar Ragu ($30). My bride really enjoyed the Grouper and commented on how good the green beans were. The regular menu is well designed and has a lot of variety, but the daily specials are what should out during my visit. I had the Focaccia Bread appetizer, Blackened Salmon Salad, Chocolate Cake and a double espresso. Most items are farm to table and have a GF preparation option. We sat at the bar, spoke to the owner and were treated like royalty from the moment we stepped into the restaurant. The service and quality of food, the attention to detail and casual atmosphere will have me coming back on a regular basis. You do not want to miss this jewel in downtown Brevard. A fairly new addition to the Asheville area with an impressive chef that cooks up variations of comfort food. The West African peanut stew was some of the best I've had and I'm from Charleston! It's a great restaurant, but doesn't have a ton of seating, so on a weekend or in the summer, I'd go in between meals or make a reservation. We attended a wine dinner the evening of March 26th at the Blind Mule in Brevard. We also are frequent diners at this wonderful establishment. The wine dinner was excellent! The food and wine pairings were perfectly matched by Chef James and his wine purveyor, Courtney, who is a Sommelier. Carol, Chef James and the Blind Mule Staff are so welcoming and customer/guest oriented. The restaurant is a very comfortable, relaxing, beautiful setting to enjoy a great dinner. We could not be more excited for The Blind Mule to be apart of the Brevard dining scene! When we discovered there was a new place in town, we made reservations pronto! I called to make a reservation, but they are also on Resy!!! (Hey, other Brevard dining establishments- get on board!!) We had a reservation for 7:30 on a Saturday night, and we arrived our table was not ready, as the diners at our table were enjoying themselves so much! This was a great sign in my opinion! They took us to the bar where we enjoyed a drink while we waited for our table. This interlude allowed us time to chat with the proprietor, and what a lovely lady/family/story. I had a glass of Prosecco and then wanted a Chardonnay to accompany my meal- they were so kind as to bring me a sample of the two they offered by the glass. Food: Duck fat fries- delicious potato wedges with chunks of pulled duck. Brisket Empanada, delicious and stuffed with meat, cheese and caramelized onion. Chicken & Portabello strudel, another exceptional savory pastry dish. Airline Chicken so flavorful, I just for some reason adore this cut of chicken- and always get tickled when I can order it! This was the most traditional dish we had, and it was lovely. We were too late and missed out on the Elk Pot Pie special! All the large tapas style entrees were excellent! For dessert we had the pecan pie and chocolate cake - both were very good!!! I cannot wait to go back and try more menu items, and see what specials they will have next!! read more

Took a friend there for her birthday celebration. The hostess told us there was only one table available since we lacked a reservation. No big deal. We were seated and a terrific young male waiter took great care of us by bringing drinks and explaining the dinner specials. However, while we were seated near the hostess station, another couple walked in minutes later, I heard them say they did not have a reservation, and the hostess said pick a table. That was a big turn off. Moving on to the experience. The food was very good, tasty and the service was fantastic. Overall I would recommend this restaurant. Message to the hostess, stop the no reservation crap and treat everyone the same. If this happens again, I will definitely address it at the restaurant. read more

We had dinner at The Blind Mule last night. Our server was excellent, she knew a lot about the food and was good at describing the flavors. The food, while good, was not a value for the price you pay. We knew the restaurant was upscale and prices would reflect that but....on the build your own cheese/meat platter each offering was $4. We received 1 slice of prosciutto for two diners and 4 slices of capicola. The cheeses were also small for price paid. The duck and mushroom lasagna was yummy but it came in a ramekin the size of a side dish of Mac and cheese at most places. The highlight of the meal were our deserts, chocolate pot de crème and an Irish cream crème brûlée. Husbands martini was good. My wine was delicious We may return for desert in the future but I dont think for a full meal. read more

We've stopped by here many times on the way home from the AVL airport. Always great cocktails and creative dishes. We've never been disappointed, and so far have not had a problem "just dropping in." We do call them after we leave the airport to see if space is available out of curiosity. It's not open on Mondays, like many restaurants these days, but there is a cute Thai place just around the corner that is amazing that we go to on those evenings. Brevard has really done an amazing job attracting very creative and high quality restaurants that have VARIETY! I have never written a review before, but this wonderful service made it impossible not to. What an amazing dining experience! My husband and I were celebrating our 1 year anniversary here. We had never been before, and were just hoping for a nice meal while we were visiting Asheville. When I made our reservations, I noted that it was our 1 year wedding anniversary. I didn't expect anything, but I thought it would be worth it to add that in just in case! The owners (I assume) both came to our table at different times to congratulate us. They provided us with free celebratory drinks. When I told them I couldn't have the bubbles they offered (and told them it's not prob at all!!) they went out of there way to make me a delicious mocktail, on them! We just had such a special time. You can tell that service is very important to them. We also had the most delicious pecan pie either of us had ever had. We even got an extra one to-go to take home to our friends we were visiting with! I will be dreaming of that pie until the next time we visit. read more

So I showed up a little over an hour before service ended annnnd full disclosure, I didn't have a reservation but as a solo diner I assumed it wouldn't be a huge issue - even if I had to wait. I just got into town and was hoping to grab a quick bite before settling in for the night. BUT alas, who runs out of food? These guys. I've never in my life heard of a restaurant turning away a customer because they have "run out of food" due to having a busy day so they're "only serving reservations, not walk-ins". Like, what? I've worked service industry for years and this is not how you run a restaurant. You make it work, yeah? You send your line cooks or bar backs to the grocery store? Inevitably it hurts your bottom line. You can change specials on the fly and still mark them up vs what you pay at the store. And servers still have the ability to take customers and earn tips. Win, win. But as a former service industry person what do I know? I'm only a tourist who's never had the chance to eat at your restaurant and won't ever again :) read more

While in Brevard for a long weekend, we were delighted to see a new restaurant as we walked around downtown. The atmosphere is relaxed, simple and beautiful to be in and everyone on staff treated us as special guests from the minute we arrived until we left. Love how creative the menu is and having tapas, small plates and entrée size plates is a great way to try new flavors and share! Be sure to save room for dessert-they are nicely portioned and delicious! (Suggestion: include a variety of regular and gluten free crackers or sliced breads with the tapas. I had my second meal at Blind Mule tonight. The pickled beet salad was over pickled meaning the only taste was of vinegar and the beets were undercooked. The Lamb Pot pie was tender but on the edge of too spicy. The roasted poblano was too spicy for all but the hardiest diner. Finally while the key lime pie and crème brûlée were excellent the sorbet with macerated berries was dangerous to eat. The berries were frozen and rock hard capable of breaking teeth. When the waitress was told she shrugged and said she would let the chef know. She didn't. On the whole a disappointing evening. read more

It's sad to see a restaurant whose owners care so little about their staff and customers. The owner walked around telling everyone how she took a week off to get her 20 year old son to Europe. It sounded very much like Ted Cruz leaving Texans high and dry on his trip to Cancun. And I'm not sure I would be boasting that my son was incapable of boarding a plane. My trout was tasteless and served 10 minutes later than any other meal. When it arrived, it could have easily been mistaken for a lean cuisine meal as there was no seasoning on the entree or sides.
