The music was on point for the audience and everyone from the staff to the guests were warm and welcoming. Being from the west coast you can definitely notice a difference in friendliness. The layout is really fun, with the club being front and center on the first floor and the play rooms up above in an atrium style. There are two stages, one for dancing and another with a pole. The area is huge, with plenty of tables and space to mingle. If I could give more than 5 stars I would because of what happened afterward. I forgot a very sentimental purse there. I called as soon as we got home and the manager, Vannessa, stayed in touch with me over text, coordinating with the staff and cleaning crew to track it down. Weeks went by and just this morning I got a text that she had found it. It's in the mail on the way home. I'm so touched by this gesture and will be sure to visit again when we are back in Austin.

Our gentleman tour guide was on point. Explained everything clearly and made us feel welcomed. They walk around frequently with good attitude and energy. Good DJ, club, clean and prompt with multiple areas to hang out, sit down/dance! Attendees were very respectful and kind. They do not serve food, but they do serve sodas and drink mixers for your cocktails, on the way out we were wished a safe night by valet. I recommend.

A fine club with a decent bar and an eyebrow raising toilet…read more Obviously your interest in Elysium depends on who they book. I came during SXSW, when clubs usually book bands that are different from what they usually book. So my Japanese showcase would not reflect what you would usually hear at Elysium. But the performance space is attractive. The club is divided into two rooms with just a divider and no wall between the rooms. So you can hear the music from anywhere. If you want to be right next to the speakers at the edge of the stage, you have to be in the main room - not the room with the bar. As I get older, I sit down more. But for most of my life, I was a stage-edge-next-to-the-speaker kind of guy. Only the only thing that would remove me from my favorite place was mosh pit action (Or a sucky band). As I get older, I also look for some kind of wall support to brace myself with one hand while I dance with the rest of me. The Mohawk is ideal for wall support upfront dancing. The Elysium not so much because one wall is mirrored. But you can get in position to do some major dancing. When I was there last, I did just that. * * * Seating options are superb. Both in the stage room and the bar room there are comfy leather sofas that hold three people and a number of other soft seating locations. Unlike many other Austin clubs, it is easy to find a space to sit down and still get the music full blast. At the Mohawk, in contrast, for an indoor concert, if you go to sit down you leave the room with the music, and you only get vague overtones coming through the wall. * * * The bar is pretty good. Their options are limited but their options are well chosen. I was introduced to a George Dickel rye by the bartender that was absolutely first rate. George Dickel is definitely going into my home collection. Outstanding beverages and fine seating allow you to have a fine time at the Elysium Even on a night when the bands are terrible. * * * Your fine time changes if you have to go to the bathroom. * * * If you are a guy, peeing is merely tacky. You go into a semi-gross room where there is a multi-user tank. All the guys pee into the tank. * * * Pooping is another story. The club does not want shenanigans going on in any of the toilet stalls. So they remove the door to the toilet stall. The men's room toilet is fully visible from the front door to the men's room. You are literally pooping in front of the entire world. This is barely one step up from India. In India, many people poop in the streets. Here, you are essentially pooping in the streets Except when you are done you can flush the bad stuff away. I personally am very shy . I definitely do not want to do my business in public. * * * There are people in Austin who love to sh** in public. Put four of them together and you have a band. Bands like that perform all over town, Including at the Elysium.

Without hesitation, they both pointed me to Donn's Depot. They were absolutely right. From the moment I walked in, the place felt authentic. Not curated. Not trendy. Just a room full of people genuinely enjoying one another. The bartender was friendly, the regulars immediately welcomed a complete stranger to their table, and before long I was swapping stories with some of the kindest people I've met in a long time. Murphy's In-Laws were fantastic. Their musicianship was outstanding, and after I asked about a James Taylor song, they dusted off Steamroller--a song they hadn't played in years--and performed it like they had played it during warm-ups. Definitely not for the "first time in 15 years." They threw in "Shower the People" for me afterward! Donn's is one of those local favorites that is unforgettable because it provides moments you can't plan. One thing to know before you go: they don't serve meals, but they do have complimentary popcorn (which was great to discover if you haven't eaten anything prior to liquor)! What stayed with me most wasn't just the music. It was the hospitality. A stranger (who overheard my desire to hear Steamroller) quietly paid for my song request. A table of regulars pulled up a chair and made room for me. No one asked why I was there by myself. They simply welcomed me and nick-named me, "San Antonio." From a mic. If you're looking for polished nightlife, this may not be your place--but you probably need to go anyway. If you're looking for authentic Austin, genuine people, excellent live music, and an evening that reminds you how kind strangers can be, don't miss Donn's Depot. Keep Austin Great, y'all!

The authentic but repurposed train station opened in 1972. In fact, a vintage railcar serves as an elevated viewing area of the dance floor, and you may want to check out the women's caboose. Literally, the depot has a caboose for a restroom! Going on a Friday night, we paid the $10 cover and it was a little crowded, but there were a few seats at the picnic tables in the wrap-around patio and I managed to step on only a few feet on the small dance floor, dancing to Donn and his Station Masters playing honky-tonk soul, western swing, and rock and roll covers. If you want a fun night, choo-choo-choose Donn's Depot. :

Next stop The Rose Room...I have never been to this club because it has unusual hours....Friday & Saturday: 10 PM - 2 AM. This is the TAO (Las Vegas, NV) equivalent for Austin, TX. We began with a dramatic escalator entrance. When you get off the escalator and go left (only possible direction), you see a sea of sardine-packed people dancing like it is there last night of earth. There is a small section of the club with stadium-like seating and a standing area. The music was blasting so loud your body was literally vibrating. A huge LED lit wall showing different designs was the focal point. A DJ was spinning some high energy songs. It was on and popping. We stayed at The Rose Room for a very short while in fear that our ear drums would explode. In my 20s I used go out a lot with friends...surprised I have any hearing today. The key is when music is that loud, you don't linger. This is a drinks only club with a bar inside the club.

It's pretty easy to get to with red garage nearby but if you're coming here, let's be honest, just Uber. The setting is eclectic and fun with lasers, dancers, and people everywhere. We came at what felt like the middle of the peak of the night. It was packed but the energy was amazing. People were dancing and it was crowded but people were being respectful of the space around them. One thing that stood out to us was the music, they played a lot of different genres but it was smooth and everyone had a good time with the vibes being right. As with any nightclub just be safe and smart but have fun too. This place will provide plenty of fun, trust us... and the lasers.
