There's good and bad. The bad, was very bad. This was the worst steak that I have ever eaten in my many years of life. - before dining here, I researching the reviews. I decided that I was going to order the popular haddock. The server announced that the daily off-the-menu special was a Picanha steak. I asked her if this was the true Brazilian steak & she replied it was, impressed that we even knew what that was. I had just eaten a very tender Picanha steak at a Brazilian steakhouse weeks prior, so I decided against the haddock & went for the special. - When my steak came, I was actually impressed by the large cut. But, that was my last positive impression. When I tried to cut it, I had to struggle with my knife. I finally was able to cut a piece & it was the toughest meat I have ever tasted. I had to spit it out. I cut a piece for my wife to taste for verification & she experienced the same, having to put her piece from mouth to plate. Mind you, the steak was ordered medium-rare, with more on the rare side, so it wasn't cooked to be tough. - I immediately called over the waitress. She was understanding, and offered another steak. I said no way, and asked her to bring me anything else that could be prepared quickly, as my wife was 1/3 through her entree. She offered a burger and I agreed. What may have been a one-star review considering the terrible steak, turned into a three-star since the burger was excellent, as were the other food items. Surprisingly, the manager, if there even was one, didn't even come over to apologize. There was no sign of a manager checking on any table. This was the first time in my life that I have ever sent a steak back. I refrain from doing so because of what the kitchen could do to my food if they're insulted. The good, & it was good: - we had the coconut shrimp appetizer. The shrimp was succulent and large. It came in an order of four. - the service by Maura was excellent. She took our drink orders and delivered post-haste. My wife particularly enjoyed the JO Chenet Sparkling Rose. - the wife's entree of lobster tacos, although extremely small & unfilling, were tasteful according to her. I gave 4 stars the first time I reviewed this joint but went back again last night and dang. I had to revise. The first time I had a fish dinner, can't remember exactly what kind of fish because it's been a while but it was just ok. Last night I had the filet and it was excellent. My husband had the ribeye and both were cooked to perfection and very tasty. They dry age their meat. We had the Brussel sprout side and a couple scallops. Oh, and the app we had was also delicious, it's new I believe- the mushroom arancini. It was a fried ball of mushroom risotto with oyster and black truffle. My god that was good! Our server was awesome too, she suggested a black garlic butter for the steak and I'm not typically a sauce girl for my steaks but this came on the side and was a dipper. Did not overpower the steak at all, it was fantastic. So I now I know, this is a steak joint, not a seafood joint lol. Although the scallops were very good. We were on our Anniversary and I decided to try this place out since it had good reviews. The place is easy to find and parking is good since it's in a shopping center. We loved the ambiance since it had a nice romantic bar vibe, and the service was great! Our server helped us with the menu, and we ordered our drinks and appetizer, which was the Milk Bread and the Bacon Wrapped Poblano. For our main course we ordered the Beef Wellington and also the special, which was the Lobster Ravioli. Everything tasted great and the service was good. We arrived early and I informed the hostess that we had a reservation. She advised that was no problem but never asked me my name. She went to seat us at a table when I let her know that I had requested a specific table and that's when she realized it (It was also the only table in the restaurant with a reserved sign) Our server (Mike/Mikey) did a good job. It was nothing spectacular but also no complaints. We ordered a Martini and a Cosmo and both drinks were solid. We moved on to wine and ordered our food. A Ribeye and the Scallops. The Ribeye was perfectly cooked as were the scallops. The candied pork belly was a lot drier than usual but still good (Usually it is great) For dessert we shared a Scotch and the chocolate cake. We were looking for a place to eat that was different from what we could get in our home town of Houston. We found Cody's due to reviews. This place doesn't disappoint! The interior is intimate with low lighting. Each table has a real flame candle. Classy. It's the perfect place for sharing a bottle of wine and having a quiet meal. The walls are lined with murals of famous musicians. Our server was great. She provided input on their best dishes. I wish I remembered her name. 7/3/2024 at 9:05 PM. She has long hair and is very friendly. She did a great job. We started with the wedge salad. It's large enough to split. The bacon was so good. Very crisp and flavorful. I had the lobster ravioli for my meal. It was delicious! The sauces drizzled on the ravioli tasted like a butternut squash base. You may not think those items would pair well, but it was perfect. The dish looks small, but it was filling. The gentleman had the pork chop. It is a bone-in chop on a bed of mash potatoes. The portion is large. I am not a pork chop person, but I was very impressed. The bacon jam was great, potatoes were creamy, and the chop itself was very tender. I highly recommend both of these. I included a picture of the menu. We only found the lunch menu on Google. They were so good It was all I could think about today. Beef Wellington was on the menu but I decided to have the Pork Chop. Cooked to perfection! ( you'll see this word throughout this review) The purée mashed potato were scrumptious. I knew I had to come back for dinner today. Tonight we had the Poblano Peppers and true to form they were sooooo dang good. After last nights rave reviews I knew I had to try the Beef Wellington. Mouth watering deliciousness! Just had a disappointing experience at Cody's San Marcos. I ordered a steak that was so tough it was hard to chew. Although it was cooked correctly (medium rare), it must have been a poor cut of beef that wasn't tenderized before cooking. The waitperson discounted my bill by 50%; however the manager didn't bother to come by and apologize and offer a service recovery. Whoever owns this restaurant should make sure the manager works the clientele who trade at the place of business. The only bright spot was the waitperson, JuJu. They don't realize how much business they could have had by handling this correctly. read more

Absolute go to whenever I am in Austin/San Marcos/New Braunfels, in fact I will go well out of my way to enjoy Cody's. I met Cody several years ago and have been coming back several times a year from our home near Dallas. The food, beverages and service is stellar. The menu changes from time to time with new and delicious additions every time! We make it a point to come for birthdays and anniversaries and we are never disappointed. Cody goes out of his way to welcome us, and everyone for that matter. The staff is very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The food is amazing! Someone in town recommended this restaurant and then we heard that they would be taking over our favorite restaurant in New Braunfels, so we had to stop by and try it. The atmosphere is nice and quiet with dim lighting. I was worried that this would be more of a fancy dress restaurant but you should be ok wearing everyday casual dress. We sat at the bar and we met the owner, Cody, there. He was chatting with the staff and some of the customers too. - Crab and Chorizo Aranchini: these were very good! I really enjoyed the freshness that the basil added to the salty arancini. - Yellowfin Tuna Tataki: The fish was very fresh and tender! Cody mentioned that he sources his seafood from a supplier in Houston that supplies Austin and San Antonio. I enjoyed the Sambal Chili Sauce with the tuna. - Filet: Cooked medium - my boyfriend got this and I had a few bites and it was a great steak. He said it was the best steak he had in a while. The drinks at the bar are great! This is a quality local restaurant, a bit on the higher end. I think it would be a great special occasion restaurant. read more

Myself and 3 others walked into Cody's on a Saturday evening around 9 pm and were seated immediately. The food, service, and ambiance were all really good. We never had milk bread and it was very tasty. Actually everything we ordered was good. At our table we had crab cakes, beef short ribs, pork chops, scallops, grilled shrimp (add on), lobster tacos, and Caesar salad. Lots of the reviews said the Caesar salad was really good, it was nothing out of the ordinary but I did like that it had an artichoke in it. I had the Alaskan halibut & it was amazing. We also love the Milkbread when we go to New Braunfels. I have had the salmon & the heirloom tomato salad. All are fantastic. The service is always good. We walked in at lunchtime and every table was full so we sat at the bar. Cool interior and it wasn't too loud. Roper was prompt with taking our order. It was quite a while (25 min?) until our salads came out and they were both room temp and not cold. I had the Caesar salad which was nicely dressed with Parmesan, with a too strong anchovy taste (and I did not order the actual anchovies for $4.) For $14 I thought the salad portion was small. My friend's blue iceberg wedge salad was served with a wedge of blue cheese but she thought there should be more blue cheese in the dressing and the portion was small. We also had the Japanese milk bread served with butter and salt which was tasty as a soft white bread. I watched another customer at the bar ask a server if she could ring him up and she said "No, not me." She did not tell the bartender of the customer's request and he had to ask again a few minutes later. I really wanted to like this place but the slow service and mediocre food didn't do it for me. read more

Always a must stop for us in San Marcos. Appetizer was jumbo coconut shrimp with sweet chili sauce...delicious. The Halibut was excellent along with the scallops and shrimp. Drinks were great as well with a generous pour. Wish they had more selection on their menu as we have yet to have anything we didn't enjoy. Small location so perhaps it saves on kitchen space. Either way. Highly recommend. Five stars because we're from the gulf coast and we love to fish, and that Halibut was perfectly cooked with alot of moist flavor. It's real easy to overcook and dry out fish but the dish was awesome. Had to finish it off with a crembrule which could have had some more fresh fruit like strawberries but it was still good.
