My family and I LOVE this place! The original Swiss Hot Dog is amazing! The combination of the German sausages, I think they are or similar to a weisswurst which is a skinny veal and pork sausage, hence why you get two in one sandwich! Everything from the curry powder, onions, fresh bread and mustard cause is to crave this all year. Soup is great, too. Nice wine and beer selection, fun cocktails, can't be beat Bloody Mary and the staff is fun and professional. Years ago, Ernst used to ship us the sausages so we could attempt to duplicate at home. Every year we visit Vail, there are many good food options and we still go to Blu Cow at least 3-4 times. Writing this review has now caused me to want one. I think I will go for a weekend visit soon. Can't wait until next summer! read more

Let me just say we have been regular customers every time we are in Vail which is often. We have supported this restaurant since she opened it. It has always been amazing but have never seen a place almost double their prices and lower the quality of food so drastically. Honestly if the food was even close to what it used to be the price increase wouldn't have bothered us however every dog(brat) was burnt black to a crisp and could not chew it. The chicken soup which used to be the best soup we have ever tasted and tried to mimic the recipe, tasted like it came out of a Progresso Can with less meat and no vegis or flavor. Staff was incredibly rude and when I questioned the HUGE price increase the owner (who used to be an incredibly nice person) said "I will be happy to show you my spreadsheets of my expenses". Not my problem as a customer and being someone that has been in business for 30 years that was completely unprofessional. Needless to say they were busy because every restaurant in Vail is busy this summer and most tourists don't have anything to compare what their food or prices used to be. Very shortsighted business planning and pushing long term customers away who have supported the restaurant is not an answer. We may give it another try but most likely not based on the owners immature unprofessional behavior in dealing with a very justified complaint. This is our favorite place to eat when we are in the area. The most recent time, we showed up with a group of 9 adults and 8 kids 5 minutes after they opened, and were taken care of with a smile. I highly recommend checking it out! read more

I love how most of the reviews are either 4-5 stars or just 1-2. Anyways. The food is good. Little over priced but that's fine. The service could use many improvements. I met the owner, blonde lady. Simone or something. Couldn't tell you. She could be more friendly when greeting locals/guests. And not look so angry all the time. I remember when the place first opened by gondola 1. The staff was amazing. But now, they look like they could care less as they sat in the back and chatted the whole time. And seemed disgruntled when I asked for a drink. We came for lunch and had a few sandwiches to choose from. The Swiss hotdog was really good. The place was nice to be in, small, clean, nicely designed. But the service was remarkably off-putting. Aloof, unsmiling, they were more interested in chatting up their friends toward the back of the bar than helping customers they didn't personally know. It wasn't obvious what was expected as far as ordering something to eat. No one comes to the table, no one at a register, just a bartender working and another staff person sipping on her drink. Another patron walked up to me and asked me what to do as he was getting no attention or signal from the staff either. Absolutely amazing hideaway in Vail Village. The "Cult Classic" Swiss Hotdog is delightful - it's pork/veal brat on a French baguette with mustard and herbs - it's the Bomb and great for lunch or to put in your pocket for lunch. Their Chicken Noodle soup is amazing and warms the belly & the heart. This eclectic little hideaway has carved out a high quality affordable niche in this high dollar location. It's great for families and the latest game is always on the tv. Full bar with a terrific variety of wines and speciality cocktails. The cherry on top of this culinary Sundae is those that serve you - the staff is amazing. The owner and her mother (that founded the place many years ago) are always present and making sure you are happy. The day we were there the bartender was James originally from Portland and he went above and beyond in every regard with friendly banter & attentive service. Sophie was working the grill and clearly is what makes this place hum. After frequenting so many disappointing places in Vail it was such a pleasure discovering a hidden gem. read more

I loved the atmosphere here, very laid-back. The bartenders were friendly and nice, and they know what they are doing. We didn't get any food but I got the best margarita here. No sugary crap in it, and just the perfect taste. Seriously, if you like a good margarita make sure to get one here. Delicious and an icon for a reason. Baguette-like roll was a symphony of crunch and toasted to crisp, warm, chewy perfection. Their dogs are exclusively flown in from Austria. Don't be fooled by their delicate and slender physique. They're flavorful and don't have that weird nubby-bits texture that other brats have. Extraordinary complex flavors adorn the already lip smacking dogs (2 or 3 dogs per baguette depending on your hunger level). Curry powder (think of it more on flavor boost side and NOT Chinese or Indian takeout), mustard is satisfying and a medium heat, and chopped onion and sprouts. Chicken noodle soup is unlike anything I've had. Bright lime, cilantro, and a total of 23 herbs and veggies in it. Comforting and unusual flavors makes it fun to slurp down to warm up your bones. For those reviews that note small menu selection and a sub-quality experience here, I urge you to try it again. It's not Sonic, they have 2 items to eat because that's what this legendary family business is known for and great at. The man who started this decades ago is now in the winter of his life. He spent his years telling amazing stories and offering a delicious, signature meal to families near and far. This ex-ski racer owned bar/restaurant is just right for apres ski. The service is excellent every time and the recipes are generations old. The vegetable chicken noodle soup is perfect (in addition to the Swiss hot dogs). Kid-friendly too. We will be sure to return often. read more
