Paint in the room was chipping, mattress was stained, but overall these were things we could ignore. However, something we couldn't ignore while using the bathroom in the middle of our first night, was that we found we weren't alone. There were 3+ cockroaches hanging out near the tub and a few scurried away before we could kill/photograph them. The next morning we went to the front desk, got our refund and switched hotels. Front desk staff was AWESOME, so kind and quick to help us. However, after we asked to cancel our stay and went back up to the room to get our bags and leave, one of the hotel housekeepers decided to come up to our room and "confront us". She wanted us to show her the cockroaches (that we had killed and flushed) and tried telling us she's never seen a cockroach at Hotel Le Marais before, basically calling us liars. Lol, well, here's some pictures to prove it. Let's ask the audience. Positives: The front desk staff was exceptional. Very helpful, very kind and knowledgeable. It's located close to Bourbon and has a nice courtyard. Negatives: ROACHES IN THE ROOMS, confrontational housekeeper, thin walls.

I reserved this place because of the amenities and they do a great job advertising with beautiful pictures. Downside is it doesn't look as beautiful as the pictures and the pool area is a lot smaller and not as kept up with the property. More like a birdbath than a pool to dip into. Upside is the staff is very friendly, they have a bar they reopened, the air conditioning works great, and room service comes every morning if you'd like. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this place.

Love, love, love this hotel! We always stay in the French Quarter, in historic buildings hotels…read morelike this one. This hotel is made up of five old French Quarter houses. All of the rooms are completely different. This hotel is just what I had hoped--tall ceilings, historic-style furniture, lots of balconies and courtyards with fountains. It is kind of a maze of hallways and staircases. In the parlor they have water, coffee, and espresso, biscotti, cookies, and fruit all day. There is a big fireplace with a gorgeous mantle. There is an elevator--it's tiny. There is a pool in one of the courtyards. One of the best things here? They have three sweet kitties who roam the hotel, although they spend lots of time in the lobby/parlor. We always try to get a two room suite, and this time we got a three room suite. It was perfect. The room we were in was a former slave quarter with two bedrooms. The ceilings were very high--i think the door to my son's room was about 12 feet tall. The bathroom has a rainshower head and the living area has an old heavy wood workspace with a copper sink. There is a fireplace in the living area, as well as one of the bedrooms--the other bedroom had a door to the private balcony. Both bedrooms and the living area have TVs. I asked the gentleman at the desk if this place was haunted and was told "absolutely, especially the 4th floor." Thankfully, we were in the second floor. He told us a few stories, including one that happened recently when two girls came to the desk at 2:00 a.m.. one of the girls was scared and crying. They checked out right then and there even though they were only 2 days into their paid-for 4 day stay. He also told us that when he was working the night shift, a jack in the box in the toy chest under the stairs would make music and pop up at 5:00 a.m. they moved the jack in the box to the attic and he had no idea if it still pops up by itself. He did say that the three cats that live there are there to keep the ghosts in check. We did go up to the fourth floor (the haunted floor) one night. There is a remodel in progress, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't spooked out up there. What great hospitality!!! The staff here is incredibly nice and helpful and accommodating. Such thoughtful touches, like creating maps of the parade route for the first day of Mardi gras. There is nothing not to love in this great hotel, which we will definitely return to--hopefully to room 210!

We booked this hotel based on the Yelp & Google reviews and Reddit recommendations…read more The only PRO of staying here is the location. It is very conveniently located to Bourbon Street. The 2 things I care most about when staying in a hotel is a comfortable night's rest and a good bathroom/shower. The bed in our room was the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept on in my entire life. It was so mushy that when you laid your head down, you sunk so far into it that your legs were literally 45 degrees above your head. I ended up sleeping upside down in the bed with my head where your feet go in order to feel even remotely comfortable. The pillows were all extremely flat, when you put your head on one it sank so far your face was about 1/2 inch from the mattress. I had to use 3 pillows stacked on each other. I had a stiff back, neck and joints the entire time we were there. The 2nd issue was hot water. The first morning, we attempted to shower, it only got barely luke warm for me and when my husband showered immediately after he only got ice cold water. We stopped at the front desk that morning on our way out for the day and told the woman at the front desk. She said she hadn't received any other complaints so it must be specific to our room and she would send engineering there to look at it. (we were getting hot water in the sink). Later that evening when we returned to our room, we immediately tested the shower again and it was still ice cold. So we went back to the front desk to check if engineering had come. We spoke to the same woman from the morning who acted like it was the first time we were telling her this and she said the exact same thing. I asked if they were going to come ASAP because we needed to shower soon and we couldn't take ice cold showers. She ignored my question and answered the ringing phone. A manager happened to be at the desk and overheard our conversation. He asked what our room number was and said that because of the old building and the pipes the hot water takes longer to get there. He said this was a KNOWN Issue by the staff, management and the owner. He told us to run the shower for AT LEAST 15 to 20 minutes, simultaneously with the sink and it should get hot. He also offered to move us to a different room but when I asked if he could guarantee if we wouldn't have the same problem in that room he couldn't give me a straight answer. We had already unpacked everything and didn't want to go through that hassle without a guarantee. So we went back to the room and let it run for 20 minutes and it eventually got hot. So for the remaining 3 mornings, we had to set our alarms for 30 minutes earlier so we could get up and run our shower before hand. For nearly $300 a night, we felt that this was ridiculous. Old building or not, if its a problem, then either don't put people in those rooms, or get it fixed somehow. Why should anyone be subjected to an ice old shower or an inconvenience to their time because the owner hasn't done anything about it? We visited the hotel Bar, the Bourbon O'bar 3 times during our stay and each time we received TERRIBLE service. None of the bartenders were friendly to us, in fact they were pretty rude. Each time it took them at least 10 minutes to even take our order (by standing there and looking at us and not saying anything). The bar was not busy or crowded any of these times. They would then start making one of our drinks, put it down and make other people's drinks, leave and go into a back room, play on their cell phone, talk to each other, or carry the glass around while doing other things. My husband ordered an old fashioned and the alcohol was sitting in the jar with the ice for over 5 minutes while the bartender carried it around doing other things, causing it to get watered down. When making a cocktail, it should be completed from start to finish without doing other things in the middle. I ordered the Mardi Drop cocktail on 2 different days. The first time, it was actually very good. The 2nd time from a different bartender it was horrible .He also sprinkled probably a tablespoon of cinnamon on top of it (which the first didn't have) which made it nearly undrinkable. I had to stir it into the martini in order to not get a mouthful of cinnamon with each sip. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant Roux because of the bad Yelp reviews - we felt we could get a better breakfast elsewhere outside the hotel. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all unless you don't care about being comfortable or friendly service.

The Davenport Lounge features excellent, easy, accomplished jazz courtesy of Jeremy Davenport and his quartet most (but not all) evenings. The food in the restaurant is excellent (as is the service), and staff throughout the venue and spa are top notch - friendly, courteous, uniformly professional. One of the great things is location - it is a very short walk to the crazy of the French Quarter, but a block away - so you have the safety, privacy, and isolation from the party when you need it, you aren't confronted by it as soon as you walk out the door of the hotel, but you are just a short walk around the corner to everything the Quarter and Bourbon Street have to offer. As an historic building, the architecture and aesthetic is much closer to "elegant old New Orleans" than, say, the Four Seasons (very very modern, almost cold presentation) or, for example, the Royal Sonesta which is smack dab in the middle of the crazy. When we come back to NOLA, it will be to the Ritz Carlton.

This is the first Ritz Carlton we have been to that we left without ever feeling like wow I love it…read morehere.. and it had nothing to do with the city (cannot wait to return to Nola) and everything to do with the inconsistency in customer service. First, I had notated on our reservation that we were there for my husbands birthday, upon check in we received a quick "happy birthday" after my husband stated we were there for his day. Our room wasn't ready yet, no problem, we returned when it was and while getting the keys we overheard a small group next to us being told they'd get a special surprise for their birthday. The employee who told the group that was the same lady that initially checked us in, she saw we overheard and at that point offered my husband a gift from the little store. That was nice, and that was it for the remainder of our stay. Our executive suite was nice, smelled a bit wet/mildew upon first entering but it either went away or I got used to it. The rooms can definitely use some small updates like refreshing the grout; cleaning the couch; adding the shampoo/conditioner/wash to the shower rather than on the separate bathtubs ledge. After unpacking we went down to Davenport lounge and sat at the bar. Frankie was the bartender and the reason we didn't want to try anything else in the hotel. I ordered a cocktail with vsop, he poured VS in his shaker, when I got his attention and told him he said "it is vsop", I said no it is not.. and instead of double checking the bottle he just returned to one of the back shelves of the liquor bottles, instead of acknowledging or apologizing for the mix up, he just poured the vs down the sink and said "let me see if we have it". He walked to the back room and came back swiftly with the correct liquor and proceeded to make my drink. His behavior in this situation really caught me by surprise because I have never encountered such a negative experience at a Ritz location. I did text my experience to the staff and got a cookie cutter apology, not even making me feel like the situation would be brought to Frankie's attention. On our second evening there we were walking back in through the doors on canal street, there was one attendant on each side of the doors, the gentleman on the right was pleasant and said welcome back, while the female on the other side seemed bothered to be at work and was tapping her fingernails on the door handle as she held it open for us. That was rather unwelcoming and just unprofessional. Anyhow, the location is perfect if you're looking to be very close to all the action of the city and the building itself is very nice. We encountered the friendliest staff in valet, I wish I got the name of the First Gentleman we encountered as he deserves praise for his excellent service and can teach some of his fellow employees a thing or two. I have been in love with the Ritz Carlton for a while now from experiences at other locations but I can say that after this visit I will book my next Nola stay at the Four Seasons (where I felt welcomed and valued when stopping in for a round at their lounge).
