Good food, beautiful, quick-witted waitresses, creepy, mesmerizing interior and a beautiful garden/courtyard. Not too expensive at all. LOVED the indie rock playlist. I went to The Columns after seeing an Instagram post about their beautiful patio! I had a reservation but on a Sunday afternoon, they were not too busy. In person, the lovely patio views did not disappoint! Even better, was the food and drink. Our server Shanda recommended the Lavender Cold Press to drink and it was absolutely amazing! It was like a floral and fruity martini espresso. It had japanese whisey, honey, coffee, falernum, banana liqueur, & lavender. It was so smooth. For food I ordered a breakfast sandwich just thinking it was something that would fill me up, but it was so tasty! It featured scrambled eggs, bacon, house aioli, american cheese, pepper marmalade. Everything was cooked to perfection, sweet, savory and the bacon was thick! The inside of the hotel was gorgeous! I loved the stained glass seating booth! Wow! Learned about this place at the last minute and was able to snag a reservation for that evening. So glad that we did. Had a cocktail and their delicious lemon poundcake. The atmosphere was amazing as well as the service. Will definitely return and enjoy dinner at some future point. I just can't comment enough about how spectacular the space is. We came on the street car for an afternoon drink, and this was the perfect place and atmosphere to do so! We wanted a break from the St. Charles street car, so we stopped at the Columns Hotel because it looked so beautiful on the outside. Right when we walked into the patio area, we were greeted and were offered to sit inside or outside on the patio. Because of the beautiful day we decided to sit outside. The patio is very nice and has nice tables, chairs and umbrellas. I felt like we were in our own oasis with the trees everywhere and a courtyard like vibe. We just wanted drinks so I got the Tommy's margarita and my friend got rose. The margarita was ok, nothing special, and my friend had to keep sending her glass back because there was cork residue in her wine. She had to do this twice. Service was decent too. After drinks, we explored inside. It is just as beautiful inside as it is outside. The bar inside is so intimate and cozy. There were different rooms with one being a coffee shop. I really felt that I was in a New Orleans mansion. This was the perfect place to take a break and get a drink! read more

Columns is an amazing place if you are looking to dine outside and enjoy the New Orleans weather. Best in the spring and late summer before it gets too hot or too cold to sit outside. Had reservations for the restaurant and was seated immediately which is always nice. Got an amazing seat in the greenery by a fire pit which was a nice addition. The view of the building and St Charles with the streetcar is what makes this place special as well as the amazingly decorated interior and exterior. The food here is good but in my opinion nothing to die for. An $18 cheeseburger is steep, and while definitely a good burger, it better be astounding for that price point. In addition I order the chopped salad which was also good, but again a $17 salad is steep for something I could have made at home honestly. Not a knock on the food because it was still great, just pricey, but I guess that comes with the venue. Definitely more of a place for the vibes than the level of cuisine but still a must in NOLA! read more

Columns is a gorgeous hotel located in the Garden District. I did not stay in the hotel but popped over to the restaurant for lunch. It was pretty empty and quiet. I opted to sit inside by the car but they have outdoor seating. I had their apple salad and cheese plate. I also had a drink, the St Charles 75. Everything was delicious! The cheese plate had an interesting floral cheese with flower petals in it. The St Charles 75 was perfect. Service was friendly and attentive. The venue is really just so stunning. They had a bathroom next to the bar that was also beautiful! Unsure if there's ADA accessible entrances. The main entrance to the hotel has several stairs. read more

We stopped by The Columns for some quick birthday drinks, and they absolutely delivered. The whole place is seriously Insta-worthy--from the beautiful historic details to the cozy, elegant setup. Total photo opps everywhere. They were so sweet to us--gave our group a comfy sofa setup and even brought out champagne to celebrate the birthday girl. Such a thoughtful touch! We ended up spending a lot of time at the bar (because obviously), and let me just say--that espresso on tap is everything. I'm still thinking about the espresso martini--it's easily one of my all-time faves now. My friend couldn't stop raving about her Pimm's Cup, too. The bartenders and even the manager were absolute dolls. So friendly, fun, and somehow always there right when we needed something. We were never thirsty--ever. Can't wait to go back! read more

I was very excited to come here on my trip from CA. I booked a reservation for last night and was very disappointed with both the menu and the service. First of all, the menu is very limited. Secondly, the service is slow. After waiting around for our server, I eventually went up to the host at the front desk and asked to pay my bill. I paid then and there. Roughly 20 minutes later, I checked my voicemail and had a voicemail from the restaurant waitress accusing me of "walking out on a bill." I called back and left a voicemail explaining I paid directly at the host's desk and had a screenshot of my bank statement to prove it. They then called me again and as soon as I picked up the phone said I'd walked out on a bill. I was very unhappy and explained the situation and they verified in about 30 seconds that I had paid. I was shocked by this as someone who has worked in the service industry--you shouldn't blatantly accuse a patron of not paying without first verifying your information, especially at such an expensive "fancy" establishment. They offered us drinks and lunch to make it right, but we had a bad taste in our mouths and didn't go back. I wouldn't recommend Columns. read more

Another place we have been going to for at least 30 years. This was the first time we have been in a long while. New owners and new Bougie everything. Not a sign of Keith Carradine or Brooke Shields (the film location for Pretty Baby). all the old pictures are gone and its crisp and clean in here. There is extensive outdoor seating and lots of sofas inside. The drinks were top notch, bartenders all business, no time for repartee. The Columns (1883) has been part of New Orleans long enough that it's become a landmark in its own right. You don't need to say the address when everybody knows the name. Overlooking St. Charles Avenue, with its stately magnolia trees and streetcar line, the Columns is an easygoing walk from other historic mansions in the district. read more

My group of 6 had a great dining experience here on a Sunday evening. Service was A+ the entire time! We were able to get a reservation at the last minute and were seated in a lovely, but secluded booth. The menu is a bit limited so we all ordered the Columns Burger and shared a few orders of fries and the Brussel Sprout Salad. Everything was so yummy! The burger was one of the best I've ever had and the salad was unique and a pleasant surprise. Happy Hour was still going on, so most guests ordered cocktails off of the happy hour menu. I've been drinking coffee based drinks lately and decided to try the Lavender Cold Press. It was so good that I ordered a second. We were able to score some outdoor patio seating reservations on a Sunday morning in June and were seated under the covered patio. The Columns is a very cute hotel with a beautifully decorated interior. The patio is a great option as you can watch the street car go past. It was an incredibly hot day so we started off with the Cucumber Gazpacho. We have never had gazpacho before but kept seeing on menus throughout our weekend in NOLA so we decided to try it. It is the perfect hot summer weather dish - it is so refreshing due to the cucumbers and has bits of crab for some texture. Next up was the Little Gem Lettuce. I don't normally enjoy "wedge" type salads where you are served the entire head of lettuce but these were like little romaine salad heads that were very delicious. The parmesan dressing was very creamy and the bacon and sunflower seeds added texture and crunch. We also got the Breakfast Sandwich to share. I am normally not a fan of mixing savory and sweets together but once I saw that there was a hash brown patty in the middle of this sandwich, I had to try it. The pepper marmalade was actually good and I did not mind the sweet/savory combo too much. I thoroughly enjoyed our meal at the Columns. The only thing that would knock a point off was that we were served all the dishes at once but the only utensils we were given were the soup spoons for the gazpacho. Our server was frequently checking in and she gave us our silverware/napkin right when we asked but we did have to sip our soup for a bit and not touch the other dishes for a bit until we got our utensils. read more

I wanted a memorable evening to end a recent trip to New Orleans with friends. We reserved a table for six on the porch and enjoyed a leisurely evening with great cocktails and fabulous plates to share. The stuffed calamari was fabulous and one of the best appetizers that I have ever had in New Orleans. The porch is outside and so there is some ambient noise - nothing excessive but it proved to be a challenge for one of our friends who wore hearing aids. The server was not very patient with him which was a disappointment. She demonstrated a marked difference in her interactions with the rest of our party, a snub that our friend did not deserve and to be honest, he really did not inconvenience our server in any way. We tipped well despite this unfortunate experience and I am still giving the Columns five stars as I believe this server was an exception to their gracious standard of service. read more

This was a fantastic first visit with a large group of friends. I was able to get a reservation to seat a party of 8 in the indoor lounge beside the grand piano. It was busy for a Friday evening but our server Sairah was attentive as could be and kept the good time rolling. The indoor lounge seating with the couch and tables is really comfortable but it can get very loud in there which made socializing in the open space a little challenging. The food was unexpectedly really good- we were pleasantly surprised by the broccolini and the cheese plates were a great choice to graze on, seasoned crackers and all. We primarily went for evening drinks but one of us ordered a burger and enjoyed it greatly. The pimms was not the best we've had in the city but was on the stronger side which for me was a win for the value. I'm not one for tequila but the mouth feel and flavor on the purple haze was great. Porch breeze was really refreshing, columns sbagliato was okay, but what was an unexpected delight to us all were the zevi's bevvy. Do Not sleep on this one - this very palatable spicy vodka cardamom drink is bold but truly delightful. Try something out of your comfort zone and be taken along for a good time here- I'd definitely come back with a large party again to get quality time and drinks in. read more

I would give this hotel negative stars if possible. Entirely mismanaged and every person I have spoken to has been nothing but difficult. We stayed here for a wedding a few months back and while there we left an item. After numerous phone calls they told us to have it picked up by UPS. They have been there over 7 times and each time they are told they have no items to be picked up. Terrible experience only made worse by entitled, challenged, and absurd employees. Immaculate atmosphere and an awesome staff. All of the bartenders were professional and helpful. The seating is great especially on a bluebird spring day. I'm sure the outdoor seating gets to be very hot in the summer but the charm of this place is incredible. I remember the French fries being particularly good. The cafe has some good baked goods as well. We stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed a wedding welcome party which I do recognize is an elevated experience. I've never stayed at a cooler hotel or inn. No pun intended but our AC was doing some weird stuff. We didn't hang out in the rooms much though. Every one of the rooms was different and had its own charm. This area of New Orleans is absolutely beautiful and as a tourist, I loved walking around the area. If I ever have the opportunity to stay here again, I will. Time of my life. read more

Columns always has such a calm atmosphere. I've met with several social groups for meetings and more intimately with just a friend or two. It's even family friendly. Hosts are always professional, knowledgeable of menu and accommodating for any special needs. They all seem to like their job which says something for the venue. I like being at a place where my friends/family feel welcome. We get that vibe here. On this visit, I met up with a couple old friends. We sat outside by the fire pit and it was a beautiful night. We had drinks and some small bites. The French fries were a good size so we shared an order. The roasted carrots were tasty. I was intrigued by the fall pumpkin soup on the seasonal menu but opted not to get it.
