Maybe I got lucky but I'm confused on the varied ratings for this place. I dig this place, the sevoxe was good, the food was good with great prices and the ambiance is cool as heck. I got there early...around six pm...to meet a friend. There were a couple of people and the bar and one table of two. I chose a booth ( unfortunately there wasn't anyone to let me know it was seat yourself) and starting checking the place out. Cool Tiffany type light fixtures and an awesome idea for a ceiling for a "divey" type bar. Apparently you can bring in any decorated 2x2 ceiling tile and they'll put it in the ceiling for you. The result is a very interesting, very varied work of art...very cool! Our server, Fiona...is that really her name or just a "stage" name...was very attentive and helpful with suggestions for food and also the beer menu. Speaking of beer menu, they had about 8-10 draft choices, one being PBR, and a few different crafts plus the standard Americans . I took Fiona's advice and got an ale from barleys. There are a lot a choices on the menu...and I mean a lot! You could pretty much have anything you want. D like to try the steak and shrimp for $9.99 but I was in the mood for a salad. I ordered the Greek salad and added a steak cooked medium rare and a side order of pickled beets. So...the salad was big and delicious...and you know how sometimes you get a salad and it mostly lettuce and not much other stuff...this was just the opposite. It had tons of hot peppers, feta cheese, tomato, really delicious Greek olives, and cucumber with some lettuce. They have homemade dressing which was fab. And the beets were so good too. My only complaint about the food was my medium rare steak was rare...I mean bloody rare... at one end and medium...I mean brown..at the other. Still, the flavor was good so I can deal with it. My friend ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and thought they were fine. We shared a piece of pie which they get delivered from Just Pies...it was apple crunch and total amazingness. My first car was a 1989 Dodge Dynasty with crushed blue velvet bench seats. It got terrible gas mileage, spewed clouds of smoke, and was a beast to parallel park. But some of my best memories happened in that car and it never failed me in my times of need. Why am I writing about my Dy-nasty? Because the Dube holds much the same value to me. It can be pretty dirty, bordering on filthy when you enter the bathroom. I've heard that the men's room lacks a proper door. The menu is doggedly unchanging. But it has a lot going for it, too. $1.50 PBR and dollar burgers/dogs got me through a lot of lean times in college, and the rest of their menu is damned cheap. They serve almost nothing healthy, but most people seem to be okay with that. I've never gotten food poisoning there, which is more than I can say for many other campus institutions. Their Mexican-inspired brunch menu will cure you of any hangover, and the cheap mimosas will have you back on your ass by noon. I'm personally not a fan of their bloody marys (maries?), but I'm more of a beer-with-breakfast kind of gal. The bottom line is that the Dube is simply the Dube. It will be there for you when you get done going to a concert at the Newport. It will be there for you when you wake up under a piano in a stranger's home. It will be there for you on weekend mornings, on your birthday, and whenever you find yourself in Columbus in need of a greasy, cheap bite and a friendly face. When I was younger (and had lower standards) the Dube was, hands down, my favorite restaurant in town. With its spotty service and average food, it wouldn't even break my top 25 these days. In fact, this place really probably deserves more like 2 or 3 stars based on the food and service... but come on... it's the Dube. It's a Columbus institution. Tradition alone earns the Dube 4 stars. Of course, the food is mediocre. It's not bad. In fact, some things are pretty good. The burger I had last night was solid. Anything fried is probably a safe bet. Order the more international selections at your own peril. The service is hit or miss. This is probably the thing I've become most disillusioned with over the years. Once your accustomed to really good wait service, bad service becomes infuriating. You can have a reasonable expectation of bad service at the Dube. But, let's be honest. You don't go to the Dube for the food or the service. You go because it's got the perfect vibe for having a good time with your friends. There's something almost magical about the Dube. You go there and you have fun. It just happens. So, yeah. like I said: If this place were anywhere else but THE Dube it would definitely rate fewer stars. But it's not just anywhere. It's the mother effing Dube, man. If you've never been, you're missing out on an essential part of the Columbus experience. Go. The food will be okay. The service might be bad. I love the Dube for its ambiance. Yes, a word that is probably too classy for a place like the Blue Danube. I find myself here on nights when I am with one or two other people and we want some cheaper drinks and a pleasant atmosphere. It's never overly noisy and I've always found a place to sit. The food is the kind of food I crave after drinking a couple beers: burgers, sandwiches, typical diner food. And because legit diners are few and far between in Columbus, the Dube keeps me content. The wait staff isn't always terribly friendly but I've almost come to expect it from them. It's a grungy campus diner, what do you expect? This is the type of place that attracts "regulars" and oftentimes I will see people I recognize either from high school or from random people I've seen around Columbus (despite the fact that I spent my college years in a different city). Truly defines the dive bar genre. By which I mean it's a shitty restaurant and bar whose "character" should not be considered an excuse for how unclean and low-quality the place is. But hey, there's always hipsters to keep dumps like this afloat, right? Liking bad food is ironic! What counts is that the decor is trendy. Chicken tenders taste like they were battered and fried in the same batter and oil as crappy English fish & chips. They're also pretty floppy and soggy, it's extremely unappetizing. The Dube Dog isn't bad (the hot dogs are probably the best thing on their menu, in fact), but I wouldn't recommend it unless a "garbage plate" of mush piled 1 foot high is your thing. Check the pictures to see what I mean. If you were ever curious about what the aftermath of somebody having sex with a bowl of french fries would look like, order the Dube Wets. Setting that aside, the gravy is just bland and unappetizing and has a "jiggly" texture, just like the mac and cheese and the rest of the sauces on their menu. Chicken is dry, flavorless, mechanically-separated crap. Barely above Taco Bell tier. I once asked what kind of marinade the "marinated hanger steak" came in. The waiter admitted that they don't actually marinate it - the meat comes to the restaurant in a vacuum-sealed package, partially precooked and "marinated in its own juices," and it's quickly opened and heated once ordered. So I opted for the cheddar steak, which turned out to be a piece of hamburger meat with melted processed cheese on top. I, uh...wow. Really? This place is by far the best place to get over a hangover. They refill your water very quickly and will even give you the pitcher if you ask. Their bathroom is also always in close proximity if needed. As far as their food, get the smothered breakfast burrito. It is heavenly. It is a straight up orgasm in your mouth. I went to Ohio State and I never managed to make it here my entire 4 years. I lived on South Campus and even though this place is probably less than 2 miles from where I lived, it was on North Campus, which just wasn't my scene. I just moved to Clintonville and my boyfriend was appalled I never made it here and insisted we come last week for dinner. This is a DIVE. On a COLLEGE CAMPUS. And the place knows it's audience. Cheap beers and cheap, greasy, glorious food. I went with the Fried Bologna sandwich. There aren't many food items as polarizing as bologna...you either really love it or really hate it. I happen to be the former And I don't get bologna sandwiches often, but this was a really good one. I made mine a platter, which means for $3 you get 2 sides. I went with mac and cheese and curly fries because CARBS and both were wonderful. I had enough curly fries for a late night snack later on. The menu is huge, so I will have to be back to try something else, but I think it's cool this place has been around since my dad went to OSU and will probably be around when my kids go there too. read more

I think I've only dined here about 100 times, since before I even lived in Columbus. Love the Dube. It sucks more now after the smoking ban (and this is the ONLY restaurant I can think of where I can say that). I see the bad reviews of this place complaining that the Dube is dark and dirty and the food is greasy, or that there are too many hipsters in there. WHO CARES?!? In my mind that is whole point of the place. People watching at it's best. Two of my high school friends turned me on to the place when I was a frosh in Cincy and they were here at OSU, (she is now an event planner for the NYC Met and he is a federal tariff lawyer in Manhattan). Neither are very hipster-like nor do they roll with the hipster crowd, per se, but this became a staple for our group of friends. The menu is my favorite of just about any menu I have ever seen. Fairly extensive: Tons of classic american comfort grease (blue-cheese bacon burg is a personal fav) Italian, some Greek and the funniest French section ever, (something like: French Dinner [two grilled cheese's and an unassuming bottle of champagne - $30] and the Dube Dinner Deluxe [bottle of Dom Perignon and two Roquefort grilled cheese's - $130]) - and that's it for the entire French section. The tiles on the ceiling have not been there forever. Some look really old because they are. At one point in time they removed them only to reinstate the tradition a few years and few thousand complaints later. I was told that it was at that time that new tiles started being done again by locals. If you have the desire / artistic ability and want to add your touch to the ceiling of fame just pick a Dube Associate and harass the hell out of them about getting a blank tile. Supposedly they'll give you one to take home and paint however you like and bring back, and perhaps even go up for good. I have noticed a handful of new ones through my years of dining here. I say harass the Dube associate of your choice because I am certain that nothing short of harassment is going to get you that tile. The service is notoriously crappy in here. I have almost come to love the crappy service and expect it every time now. it's kinda like those places that used to exist called Dick's where the severs treat you like shit on purpose, except that at the Dube your server is never going to try to get someone at your table to wear a paper hat shaped like a penis that says "Sheep Banger" down the side. THE DUBE!! I just moved to Boston with my boyfriend in the Fall and we constantly comment on how we miss the Dube. Hands down the best place to go for a plate of fries and chicken strips at 1 am in C-Bus. This place has the best atmosphere and there is always a crazy mix of people. It gets very busy come late night and is pretty chill during the day. Best time to go though is for breakfast. My bf and I used to go every Sunday morning for amazing coffee and the breakfast quesadilla. I believe the Dube holds a special place in most young Columbus hearts. The Dube (as it's affectionately known by its loyal fanbase) may receive a bad rap for its cranky waitstaff and it's greasy food selection, but it's got enough character to more than make up for it. I've described this North Campus institution to friends as "Applebee's for hipsters", and after treating them to an ice cold PBR tallboy and one of their overstuffed breakfast burritos, they quickly joined me as being pro-Dube. I will concede that some of the items on the menu are pure, unadulterated crap. The club sandwich is bland and mushy, the scrambled eggs are soggy and rank smelling, and the cheeseburger has enough grease to keep the engine of a Mack truck lubricated for years. Ordering food here is a process of trial and error, and fortunately here I've done it enough times that you won't have to. The reuben dog, for example, is a rather curious item that turned out to be surprisingly delicious. I like hot dogs (and unless you're a bloody communist, you probably like them to); I also like reubens. The combination made no sense whatsoever, but it's proven to be my go-to meal whenever I find myself at the Dube in a drunken stupor. I also recommend the breakfast burrito- it's chocked full of flavor and is the size a new-born baby. Make you sure you get extra enchilada sauce to cover it in, though, as it can be a little bit dry at times. If you're not in the mood for a cheap, gut-busting meal, the Blue Danube is also a more than decent place to meet friends for a drink or two. The bar is large enough to seat a handful of groups in search of strong drink, and there are plenty of tables to sit at as well. Getting waited on when you're just in the mood for a few beers is a nice perk as well, regardless of the servers' frequently sassy attitudes. Like I said, people come to the Dube for it's offbeat charm. This is an old favorite from back in the day that I've re-discovered. I don't drink anymore, but they have a full bar. I noticed the other day that they had absinthe, and multiple brands to boot! They have a huge selection of food. My favorite is the steak and shrimp dinner with a side salad (oil/vinegar). The steak was one of the best I'd had in some time. The service is always fast and friendly. To top it off, they have a juke box with Jimi Hendrix AND Billie Holiday (among a bunch of modern rubbish). Heaven for $10 bucks and change. I've been back for repeats several times and try to bring my friends and business associates to experience the Blue Danube. On a bad day, it's a great old diner, but it's usually much more. I've driven by here tons of times and just thought it was just a bar. I had some friends from the East Coast in town and we were looking for a "diner" after some late night drinking. I haven't really found a legit late night "diner" experience comparable to back home yet in Columbus, so I relied on my trusty Yelp app. Reviews said The Blue Danube was "like a diner" and serving food until 1 am. I called and confirmed and we were on our way. The menu is epic. They have everything imaginable. I really think it's cute that they call themselves and adjective-ize menu items as "The Dube." The food is nothing special, your usual greasy plate, but the environment is charming. For me, the best part of the evening was our waitress, Stefanie. She was the nicest waitress I've ever had. Hands down. Honestly. And why did I love her so much? Well, my friends and I had obviously been drinking and she was so kind and answered all of our drunken questions and concerns. I feel most late night service staff are judgey and rude when their clientele is exhibiting shenanigans. Stefanie was awesome. The Dube is satisfying. It is essentially a diner with alcohol, or a bar with diner food, take your pick. Either way, the drinks and food are reasonably priced and reasonably good. Not great, not bad, just ok. The menu is very diverse (breakfast, Mexican, dinner, burgers, sandwiches, etc), and everything I've had has been sort of uniformly OK. But you can get $1 cans of PBR or a root beer float or a piece of pie with your food... or without. In other words, it's a great place to fulfill that midnight craving you're having, whatever it's a craving for. 4 stars for reliable satisfaction-producing mediocrity, a wide selection of food (including veggie options), spotty service, lots of seating, and an ambiance that makes hipsters and students instantly comfortable. The Dube is amazing, but it takes a certain appreciation. It certainly helps to have gone to high school in Columbus, making several trips a week to this bright blue dungeon, pretending to be part of the college crowd, hanging out for hours while picking at a plate of curly fries, drinking too many cups of coffee, and scrutinizing every hipster who walked through the door. The Dube is, hands down, the place I will forever think of as my high school hangout. It was the place to go when there was nothing else to do, whether you were hungry or not. I went through a phase (freshman-sophomore year of college at OSU) where I wouldn't dare set foot in the old Dube, too paranoid of running into people I no longer talked to since starting college. I knew they were in there, along with all the memories and sillinesses of all the time I'd spent there. Eventually, I came back to the Dube, both with old friends and new. It never really changes, although the new jukebox is certainly a hideous travesty, and the smoking ban made it less of a health hazard (sadly.) The food is good. I have honestly never eaten anything bad here and I have been hundreds of times. It's pretty standard bar/diner food but it's really not overly greasy and there's a wide variety of comfort food--you should really try their lentil soup and their chicken pita if you want something healthier. You can, of course, always count on decent coffee, spicy curly fries, a great turkey burger, chicken fingers, or just a piece of pie with ice cream. Delicious....ridiculous......totally necessary. Always full of hipsters and the mirrors on the walls make it possible to check yourself out at the same time you check out everyone else. My friend and I drank our dinner at the concert and were in need of grease, stat! Where better to sate our hunger than the good ole' Dube? One pepper jack grilled cheese later I was good to go. Although I attended college a half hour away, I found myself on High Street very often. This was one of my go-to spots, usually late at night. The food wasn't particularly memorable, but the experiences always were. Many good conversations happened here. Lives crossed paths and created connections. Dates occurred. One night when I was feeling sad, someone at the door noticed and tried to cheer me up. Another time, after a friend of mine complimented the waitress' bird necklace; the waitress took her necklace off and gave it to my friend, just like that. The Blue Danube is one of those weird, unshakeable campus institutions that seems to survive any of its problems because the IDEA of the place is so firmly affixed in people's minds. There's every other restaurant in the world to try, nothing is clang the bells good about it, but I keep going back there. About once every 18 months or so, I find myself soaking Dube Nuggets in Berties Inferno sauce and drinking the shot of tequila that comes with CC's margarita. I don't know what to suggest to you other than the Dube Nuggets, batter-fried lumps of white cheddar served with a hot-sweet berry sauce, I think of them as the signature item on the menu. Everything else is unremarkable in my opinion. They have lots of crazy liquor behind the bar and the specials are interesting. I would not call the service good. To call it hit or miss would suggest that it is sometimes a hit, it is not. You could probably call it adequate considering what the servers are working with. The menu is huge, the customers are mostly drunk, tips probably aren't all that great, let it slide. Am I telling you to try the Blue Danube? Is this a good review or a bad one? I don't know. What I do know is I'm going to order more Dube Nuggets, drink more tequila shots, and wait far too long for the server to pick up the bill. What this place has : awesome tiles on the ceiling (seriously, you can admire for quite some time and not get bored). Everything under the sun on the menu. Good beer prices. Daily food specials. Parking, which is a huge plus since I no longer live right across the street. What this place lacks : great service. Okay seriously, can these be renovated at some point? We walked in and had no idea if we were supposed to be seated by someone, eventually we figured out we were supposed to just take a seat. Once we sat down, no one handed us menus, so naturally we grabbed ones left over from a different table. As we predicted, no one ever came to take our order until one of us finally got the waitress' attention. The fact that this even had to happen is ridiculous: restaurants should ALWAYS make sure to serve customers when they sit down. I just went there for the first time today at a friend's recommendation. The Service was okay but slow, the environment was not conducive for walking around tables and chairs to get to the restroom for example or for the waitresses bringing food and drinks. Our individual waitress was nice and had a good personality, but the service was still a little slow. The restaurant was warm and after walking around at a convention all day it wasn't what I was looking for. The food tasted average at best. It felt like I could have gone through the drive through st Arby's and end up with the same or better quality food with ordering their "beer battered chicken fingers" and curly fries. If anyone knows Arby's chicken that clearly isn't beer batter, and when asked about it the waitress just said she had no idea they just came frozen in a bag. All in all I'd pass. We had 8 people there and the only adult that was really happy with their food was someone with the breakfast burrito. The Dube, The Duber, The Dubette, B-Dube, Duberoni.... all things that are Dube can be found at this north campus/near Clintonville time warp eatery. First off, The Dube has a clientele that is reliable and agrees to "come as you are" for weekend brunch. The hungover, the family variety 4'some, break-up couples, singles at the bar.... they come and they ponder the menu. Now... if you haven't had the homeade meatloaf open face.... shame on you. B-Dube's meatloaf is satisfying, filling and bucket-list worthy. Go on... step into a burger. The Dubester does a nice job with burgers and cheese, too. Now it's not all show. Prices are moderate so you won't be overwhelmed with a plate stacked as high as Vesuvius. My lunch today was the Caribbean Club. The fixin's were a grilled chicken breast, sliced avacado, bacon, tomato, lettuce on toast with a slather of chipotle mayo. My side was cole slaw. The plate came to me whilst sitting at the bar watching English football.... and my first impression of my first Caribbean Club was... hmmm.... above scrawny but was there enough? The Gods of Yum were working in the kitchen. The sandwich was very warm and the combination of foods had a kiss of comfort to them. Why just A-OK? Big Blue D is simple in presentation. It's local fare and with ceiling tiles overhead that look circa 1930, plastic or naughahyde booths,... it's not all too comfortable. Parking is comme ci, comme ca - find it and take it. The prices are very good and so's the food. But I never have been blown away by anything and to me.... that's A-OK with me. I'm comfy at Dube-On-High. And many come high from dube to The Dube. The dinner and lunch food is a big overwhelming because of the possibilities but it lives up to expectations. The Dube is a wonderful little Dive! To hang out at the bar or grab a booth with friends and enjoy great food,get just about any mixed drink. All for a great price. I would have given five stars, if it wasn't for the seating. Once all the seats are taken up. There isn't really any where to sit or hang out and all you can do is wait for one to open up. I don't know if they have plans to expand the seating. Plus the woman's bathroom is usually out of paper towels and toilet paper. I become increasingly fond of the Dube every time I go. In typical dive dinner fashion, they have lots of food choices and while none of them are exceptionally fantastic, they're all mildly tasty and not too expensive. The decor is probably one of my favorite things, very dark and cool. My waitresses have been great for the most part, only one has ever been so so, they're friendly and always willing to help you check out the menu or grab a cheap beer (I'll drink any beer if its a dollar fifty for tap). All in all, I definitely recommend it if you're hungry and in the area. read more

In a city of Frou Frou trendy bars, I enjoy the fact that the Danube keeps it scummy. I've never had bad food here.....possibly because all I order are potato skins and that burger with the chili on top. If you want a salad run far away from this place. Yes, the food is horrific, at best. But the bartenders are pretty damned cool and feed me free drinks (that's all it takes to get me to come to a place, to be honest). Even though they are a dive bar, they have Dom Perignon...I know this because one tool bought a bottle to impress me. And shockingly, it didn't magically make my clothes drop, thus rendering me a b*tch (at least in this patron's eyes). Fun times...but at least I got free drinks there :) read more

The Dube. The closest thing to a Diner that Clintonville/Old North Columbus has. Except it's nothing like a diner at all. The first thing that always strikes me at the Dube is the smell. It smells weird. I can't ever put my finger on it, and I think it's only the Dube that smells this way. It does not smell good in there. It kind of smells like B-O, kind of like hipster hair gel, kind of like burnt food, and kind of like weird table cleaner. The Dube has mediocre service. The Dube has mediocre food. The Dube has a mediocre atmosphere. Yet we come back and back because it is cheap, dirty, and (usually) quick. I may have given you 2 stars except for this one experience Rachel P. and I had that she mentioned. They lost our order ticket, and after an hour of waiting when our food finally came, it was on the house. That was the kind of stand-up, honest business that is great to see. Ever since we've discovered better burgers, better spinach and artichoke cheese dip, and better french fries in Columbus, we have come less and less to the Dube. However, I'm sure we'll go back at some point, because it is so darn close and so darn convenient. read more

It's a Dive bar. No, it's a diner. No, it's The Dube! I think I spent about 10% of my undergraduate career at the dube. It's a Columbus institution with tons of menu items to cure any hangover. Great music on the jukebox. Lots of character that only a Buckeye could love. read more

Personally, I love the Dube and have many a fond memory of this place. However, it is not for everyone, I mean - it's a dive, in every sense of the word. If you don't like dives, I would not recommend this place at all. The menu is huge, the food is never great, but always satisfying. The variety is amazing - you can get typical American bar food (hamburgers, salads, greasy appetizers), Mexican (quesadillas, burritos, huevos rancheros), Greek (gyros, greek salad), French, Italian...do I need to keep going? I've had a smattering of items on the menu, my two go twos are the Dube Deluxe Burger (burger with blue cheese and bacon, I get it with guac on the side, delicious) and the club sandwich. If you want to make it a platter, you can add 2 sides for $3 - sounds expensive, but worth it. But really, try anything try everything - especially try the Dube Nuggets with Berries Inferno sauce - it's freaking delicious! (and not actually spicy). On top of all the food choices, there's a full bar lots of beer choices, and great happy hour prices. One thing I will say is that so far the Dube has one of the best Bloody Mary's that's I've managed to find in Columbus. Perfectly spicy (for me at least) just the right amount of tomato, and if you ask, they will give you extra olives. Lastly, I can't write a review without mentioning the cool ceiling tiles. They are an awesome way to make the Dube more unique. read more

Amazing atmosphere; great service; great food; and, great drinks! It's one of my favorite spots on campus. It's reasonably priced and I've never had anything I didn't like. My mom said they have the best Ruben she's ever had. I'm gluten free and they have enough options so I don't feel too restricted. Five stars for sure! read more

I like this place, especially during the day when it isn't loud or crowded. The painted ceiling tiles provide character; if I had a good idea, I'd like to paint one. As far as food goes, I really only order the veggie breakfast burrito, which is both delicious and huge. Many of their plates are gigantic. The service has always been friendly, in my opinion. Painful experience in most recent Dube experience. Setting: Lunch time. And, we ordered the blue plate specials, soup of the day & a Greek salad. Seriously terrible slow inattentive service. Did I mention it was lunch? Better quality food & portions at Wendy's. Ouch. Highlight: vander mill peach ginger cider. Fries were mediocre. Cole slaw looked spoiled. Salad was sub par. I've only once had a bad meal at the dube and its because my burger was undercooked...it happens. Every single other time I've gone in the past 10 years it has been great. My favorites are the club sandwich and dube burger. They have a large menu, good beer and friendly service. read more
