Ok. Here is another place I love that I have failed to review for almost 2 years. I know I know as much as I love yelping I have been a little lazy about it tho. First of all you let me retract to say I have reviewed this place but it was under the old name and location YardBird. So it's only been maybe a year that I have failed to review it It's basically same owner and mostly same staff but in this new location he service is better because it offers a lot more room and openness for the staff to be more attentive to customers and seat them. I have tried the lunch and the breakfast but mostly I come here for breakfast with my guy friend. I've tried almost half the menu and I am always satisfied. The food preparation is very consistent. I have not came and have something come to the table with anything less or different in taste than before. The place is kept very clean smells cleans. No funny odors no extra flies or any for that matter. Cups, plates etc always seems clean as well. The staff is friendly however sometimes more friendlier to others than myself. Well I am the only African American regular. So over the years I've seen more bonding done with others than I but its ok because I'm treated with nothing less of respect and that's what I love. I'm eating here as I write this review and I must say you'll fall in love with the homemade biscuits. And the omelets are awesome and unique. One is the southern omelet which has collard greens yes I said it collard greens and andouille sausage in it. And you'll love the homemade peach butter for your biscuit. The new name Blue hen and new location doesn't have the best parking but even if you park down the street and walk a block it's worth it. You'll want to come early on Saturday because it gets crowded very quickly. There was a line out front of 6 people when I arrived before the it opened. read more

Yelp is a great tool for finding unique restaurants with the added bonus of informative reviews. We visited St. Augustine's back in May and looked for a nice restaurant for lunch. Though off the beaten track, the visit was well worth the walk through mostly residential neighborhood. Atmosphere was charming and food delicious! I could not pass up the chicken and biscuits which was a great meal. Our server was lovely and most helpful. Hubby and I were looking for brunch at an "off-the-beaten-path" spot, and boy did we find it! Love the laid back vibe, and the friendly service. OH MY GOD THIS PLACE IS STUNNINGLY GREAT!!!! We dropped in from out of town on New Year's Day and had one of the best meals ever! I got steak and eggs, everyone around us got eggs, my wife got some sort of eggs and spinach bowl. Everything was incredible. The real problem here is choosing what to eat. Here's some of my opinion about it: pancakes: must see steak and eggs: if they have it, do it coffee: okay, not awesome but pretty good hot chocolate: looked amazing, I didn't have any any egg dish: amazing biscuits: YOU MUST GET THIS. You want something else? Still get a biscuit. Do yourself a favor and get one. Add it on. Do it. I love this place and wish we could come again. It's probably my top restaurant in Atlanta at this point based on quality and price. Heck, even the line moved fast for people waiting. A very enjoyable adorable clean charming local place in the heart of Lincolnville! We went for lunch and I had the Cuban sandwich with a side of collards, my companion had the crab quiche also with collards and the chicken corn chowder with a biscuit... all were very good and the service was great too...also I I should say I'm not a big collard green fan but this is the place to get them! I will be going back soon to try the black eyed pea hummus wrap or maybe something from their breakfast menu! read more

So... it IS as good as the other reviewers say it is. I sampled the corned beef hash, pumpkin pancakes, blue crab quiche, king's french toast, and of course the biscuits with peach butter. All of it was good. Well worth the wait for the food. Service was not lacking. Tables were cleared/set quickly to allow waiting customers to sit down. Very clean and decorated nicely with lots of farm related art. Definitely recommended if you are visiting the nation's oldest city. read more

This is a great smaller restaurant with hen decor all around (hence the name). We stayed in walking distance and this was the first recommendation of where to get breakfast/lunch. I got the chicken biscuit which is amazing! The chicken is crispy and the biscuit is so flaky and melts in your mouth. This has to be my favorite place in St. Augustine! Great food, great atmosphere, great service. I usually get the chicken and biscuits, and today per usual, it did not disappoint. My husband gets the yard bird and has never had a plate of it that he does not absolutely love. If you try the biscuits, don't forget the peach butter. Locals and out-of-towners alike flock here on a Sunday morning. Be prepared to wait a bit, especially if you have a large party. Thankfully, Blue Hen lived up to the hype and was worth a little waiting. As a party of 2 we did not have to wait too long. I took this time to admire the kitschy art that makes this place feel like your cool grandma's breakfast joint. Maybe 5-10 minutes later seats opened at the bar area. The bar is part of the wait, though, so don't go tryin' to seat yourself. Fellow yelpers had really talked up the Chicken Biscuits so we got an order of that. Also got a plate of combined sides that include home fries, one pumpkin pancake, and a side of pork sausage patties. Everything was really good but the chicken biscuits were the clear winner of our choices. Biscuits were warm and flaky over the perfectly fried piece of chicken. So juicy! I put on the provided peach butter and then dipped it lightly in the syrup from my pancakes. Yum! Breakfast drinks here are average. Just basic coffee and cream, store bought cheap OJ, etc. They do have mimosas if you're feelin that but again looked very basic. Stopped in on the recommendation of my Airbnb host for breakfast, and my wife and I were not disappointed. The Blue Hen is keeps things very simple, having a smaller menu, but what they do with that menu is full of style. My wife had biscuits and gravy, which of course is a breakfast house staple, but whatever that put in that gravy is highly addictive, and their biscuits are so fluffy and crumbly all at once. I had the crab quiche, which was a great portion and full of blue crab. Served with a side of huge fried potatoes, and I was in heaven. Along with the food, the service is top notch. I had the Kings French Toast... and the said King probably lacked taste buds because with bananas, peanutbutter and honey, there wasn't anything that amazed me. My girlfriend had a veggie omelet that was bland as well... neither her or I could pull flavor from this. Great crumb structure on the biscuit, nice mouth feel, just the right amount of crumble, but stood up well to the chicken. One of these would be a good breakfast, but you get two! Visited this place for the first time last week and the food was really good I got the chicken biscuits with home fries and it was enough for 2 meals. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the service wasn't great. We sat at the counter and there was a server in front of us talking away with someone. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed well she's talking to another customer. I get it, it would be rude to cut a customer off to take our drink order. So we continued to wait. Ticket time was totally reasonable and I got the Jada Stack with sweet potato home fries (yep, they WERE good) and hubs got the corned beef hash. Both were delicious. The burrito typically isn't my breakfast go-to, but this one had black beans, eggs, salsa and breakfast potatoes and we added some avocado and bacon to ours. Let me tell you, it was fantastic! The chicken biscuits were served with a side of peach butter(amazing) and the chicken was crispy and delicious. Tasty tasty. What a cute little place and just reminds me of home at my grandmothers which I can't ever go back to now that it's been sold. We sat at the counter and were offered drinks right away. I loved the vibe of locals sharing a coffee to talk about your day or latest activities. The coffee was served in mugs my grandmother had and I was immediately grinning thinking of her fussing over me as a child at breakfast. She literally would sit me down and then continue to cook my breakfast as I sat and watched her in the kitchen. While I couldn't see into the kitchen, the servers were passing the counter for beverages and such so I was in heaven with my behind the scene seat. I had crab quiche and I already forgot the name but it was delicious. Lumps of crab meat with cheesy goodness. The potatoes were well cooked and perfectly seasoned. I tried the pickled cucumbers and really liked as well. Now everyone raves about the biscuits and peach butter which are good but I was happy with my quiche and couldn't finish the biscuit. Yum Yum! I couldn't finish everything. It was a large meal for a great value. I would love to come back. I think it was the owner who waited on us and she was great. I loved her humbleness and charm. It was worth the wait! We went on a Sunday morning and had to wait about 44 minutes, but once seated it was great. My wife and I tried buscuits and gravy, kings french toast and the pumpkin pancakes. Everything was spot on, including my iced coffee (with coffee ice cubes). The highlight was the pumpkin pancake...and I am not a big fan of pancakes. It was light, fluffy and subtly flavorful. I had the chicken and biscuits, the chicken was tasty and crispy while the biscuit was crunchy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside with just the right about of butter. The slaw was also good, not too much mayo how I like it. One of my sisters had the corned beef hash and a side of grits that she finished al of. Another sister had the veggie omelet and we all shared an order of the pumpkin pancakes with a side of bacon. The Blue Hen is located in an unexpected area, you might think you're lost when looking for it but don't give up it's worth the hunt. Coming from the West Coast, St Augustine had been a refreshing dose of Atlantic history, alligator husbandry, and the familiar hipsterisms that we get in the Bay Area all the time. Blue Hen was a true combo of the three. The ambiance was inviting, the food delicious, and the hospitality Southern. I will come back the next time I am in Florida. So, so good. The wait time was acceptable for a such a small building and short waitstaff. My date and I felt very welcome. The decor is adorably rustic. Colorful, weird, never-before-seen art was scattered along the walls of the restaurant, and this somehow made the waiting experience worthwhile. (Great place to play "I Spy".) I'll admit that the coffee was a little bitter, and the waitress was... quiet. She spoke to us a total of three times: 1) To take our drink order. 2) To take our meal order. 3) To offer our check. I expect better service from a place so rural, but I understand that they were a bit busy for a Saturday morning. I will say that the food was delicious. I had the morning burrito, and my mouth is watering at the thought of it. The flour tortilla was soft and warm. The eggs inside were fluffy and savory. It had the perfect amount of black beans and peppers inside as to not overtake the egg flavor, but to complement it. Yes there will be a wait, and yes it will be fine. It will even be worth it! Breakfast wait for three on a weekday had us outside in the sunshine for about 25 minutes, but there's some limited indoor waiting space as well. I ordered the blue crab quiche which came with a fresh, homemade biscuit with peach butter (!), potatoes and some pickles. We also ordered the freshly made corned beef hash and a veggie burrito with avocado. The quiche really had a great balance of light, fluffy egg with the sweetness of the blue crab. It's a really nice combination overall. You do really have to love seafood to commit to this for breakfast, even for me this was a little "out there" and slightly unusual. The corned beef hash was chunky, it had big pieces of potatoes, corned beef, onion and bell pepper. Everything about the burrito was good, even the black beans had a ton of flavor. read more
