THIS. PLACE. IS. AWESOME!! (And I normally don't write anything separated by punctuation, so it's gotta be good!). This was my first time here, and I know it won't be my last. The atmosphere is buzzing with energy, and even though we had a 30-minute wait, we had heard so many good things about this place that we didn't mind--it was a great opportunity to soak in the atmosphere (the decor is rustic and cozy), and we knew the wait would be worth it. And it was! I ordered the corned beef hash (which was recommended by the waitress), and I loved that the meat was not the typical "stringy" corned beef often seen when it comes out of a can--oh, noooo!!! These were diced chunks of corned beef with roasted potatoes, and it came with an egg your way, plus a biscuit, for which they are known. I was so happy that the (big, fluffy) biscuit also came with their famous peach butter--WHO KNEW such deliciousness existed?!?! (--punctuation!) My friend ordered the quiche, and she enjoyed that very much. Service was great--friendly, attentive but not obtrusive, and the food!--FAB.U.LOUS!! (oh, there I go with the punctuation again!) Everything is made fresh from scratch, and it is evident. The downside is that parking is tricky--you need to find street parking and hoof it. But does that stop me from giving them a 5-star review? I have bookmarked this place. I have even driven by this place. I have also spent 3-4 months down the road from this place. The only thing that kept me away was the fact that when I'm down here I'm normally working and start before they open and work well after they close. Today I was just down in St A just kind of piddling so I wanted some breakfast. So off to the Blue Hen I went. Once inside I noticed this place is pretty neat looking. There is a small wooden bar with a handful of stools. There is also 2 old church pews that they use for seats on a couple of 4 top tables. They have some neat stuff all over the walls. Kind of a farmhouse theme. I really don't know how old this place is but it looks pretty new. They menu is not that big like some places down here in a big tourist town. But they have biscuits with just about everything so I hoped they were pretty good. They were not super flaky but artsy with a good amount of butter in the process. They have quite a few omelets and that's what I went for. I got the southern omelet with andouille sausage, collard greens, and swiss cheese. Now swiss is different most places use a cheaper cheddar cheese. I will also have to add that they make an omelet the way I do and the way that I like it. They start cooking the eggs and then add the inners of the omelet so that all of the ingredients cook and stay together. That way when you get a folk full you get filling and egg not some egg and all the filling falls out. My meal came with fries potatoes that were just overdone for my tasty but they did have some descent seasonings. I did notice that a lot of folks here like the fried chicken n biscuits cause I saw a bunch of them come out of the kitchen. This is a classic old school breakfast place with a slightly updated take on the classics. The pumpkin pancakes taste like pumpkin, the corned beef in their hash is made in house. Local roasted coffee, fluffy biscuits and peach butter! The servers are charming and well versed in the menu. This is our new breakfast spot and well worth the drive. read more

This is an awesome breakfast spot! Tried the recommended corn beef hash with side of biscuit with peach butter. Probably the best tasting corn beef hash I've ever tried, I wanted to lick my plate. The biscuit and peach butter are also delicious. Tried a little of my guy's breakfast burrito which was good, but loved my dish much better. Portion size is just right, didn't feel like I needed to be rolled out of the restaurant, but satisfied. Overall service was quick and friendly. The atmosphere was a quaint, casual with cute decor of hens all over. I will definitely be back next time I'm having brunch or breakfast in St. Augustine! read more

Had the omelettes (veggie and southern). They could have been a little lighter handed with the oil since those are really the only "healthy" options offered on the menu. The salsa was great! Great food, but extremely disappointed in how rude the owner was. Being in the service industry myself, I would NEVER speak to guests the way the owner did to my party. Excuse me while i die reliving it..........................ok I got resuscitated by the memory of the Dessert Rose champagne cocktail with staff made fresh watermelon juice with hand slapped mint. The food quality was good nothing exceptional for the cost they upcharge every little thing and have cut down the sizes (example: breakfast burrito). They DONT have a kids menu so that makes it difficult to bring kids and they charge $5 for a kids chocolate milk. It's a small place w limited seating. For months I've been thinking about what to do for Father's Day for my husband and oldest son and finally decided to bring them to St Augustine, Fl for a little fishing, zip lining, and snorkeling (but more important for me, GOOD EATS!). I look to Yelp religiously whenever we go to new places and it has never let me down yet. After reading all the reviews for this place and a couple of others, I bookmarked them because a mind is a terrible thing to waste! When we arrived Friday, we went to the Ice Plant for some cocktails and bar food and one of the employees there suggested The Blue Hen Cafe as he and my son found out that they knew the same people in Savannah where we're from.. And there you have it, another referral. It was mandatory at this point! Even better than ever at its new location! I can't recommend this cafe highly enough for breakfast (served all day) or lunch. I had the Jerk Chicken Cobb salad - what a delight. Lots of very spicy hot chicken breast , half an avocado, a tasty mound of crispy bacon, a hard-boiled egg, and lots of grated cheddar. Oh, I almost forgot the fresh mixed greens underneath. We had breakfast here recently and it was excellent! Large portions (we both got omelettes and biscuits) and iced coffee with ice cubes made with coffee so it doesn't get watered down. The place is just outside of the historic district in a neighborhood. Will definitely go back for breakfast as well as try some of their lunch menu as well. read more

Great breakfast place! Pumpkin pancakes and blue crab quiche were delicious! The home fries were very, very good. Plus you get to see a more undiscovered, less Disney-fied, "place where actual people live" area of St. Augustine. Pro tip: find street parking and after breakfast walk into the tourist part of St. Augustine. Just don't park on a yellow curb or in front of a fire hydrant or driveway. Retro atmosphere and nice staff. Had the corned beef hash it comes with 2 eggs and a biscuit. Hash was so good corned beef was cooked with peppers onion and potatoes nothing like the stuff from the can. I had the hash after reading the amazing reviews. They were delicious! I also got a watermelon mimosa maid with watermelon juice and champagne. The balance was amazing but I wish it had a tad more sugar, watermelon juice can be "watery". The environment was fun and the waitress was very accommodating and delightful. read more

Recommended by a foodie friend and she was right on the money! I'm always on the hunt for homemade corned beef hash so I was pleased they had it on the menu. It was not too salty and the meat was very tender. Home fries, sautéed onions and green bell peppers complemented the hash perfectly. The portion was very generous and I wish I had asked for just half the portion. The datil pepper sauce kicked it up a bit, waking up my morning tastebuds! Topped with two eggs any way you want it (over easy for me) and served with a flaky, fluffy melt in your mouth buttermilk biscuit - it was perfection! The only good thing I missed was my earl grey tea with steamed almond milk. They didn't really have a quality selection of tea and they didn't have a milk steamer/frother. Despite that letdown, I'll be sure to come back next time I'm in the Old City. There's so much more on the menu that I'd like to try! read more
