My sister and I were genuinely excited to try The Blue Mug Coffee Bar during a recent visit. We make a point to support local businesses whenever we can, and after reading the story on the website, we were especially drawn in. It had a light, humorous tone and made the place feel welcoming and unique. Unfortunately, the experience didn't match that first impression. When we arrived at the 35th Avenue location, the décor and overall ambiance felt underwhelming and didn't reflect the personality we had expected. We were asked if we were dining in or taking our order to go, and we happily said "dining in," looking forward to being served in the signature blue mugs we had heard about. To our surprise, both drinks, a coffee and a latte, were handed to us in paper cups, just like everyone else. We noticed the blue mugs sitting on top of the espresso machine and asked if we could have our drinks in those instead. The staff member, who appeared to be managing the register, drinks, and food on her own, simply pointed and said, "Oh, they're hot." That was the extent of the interaction, and no alternative was offered. The rest of the experience continued in a similar vein. The bagel was barely toasted, the muffin wasn't offered to be warmed, and both the coffee and latte lacked flavor. Overall, it felt like a missed opportunity, especially given how promising everything seemed beforehand. We were so disappointed that we ended up giving our punch card to other patrons, as we don't plan to return. It's unfortunate, because this could easily be a charming and memorable spot with more attention to consistency, quality, and customer experience. I hope the team is able to refine their approach and bring the experience in line with the story they present. Right now, it doesn't quite live up to even the more standardized options like Starbucks, which is disappointing for a local business with so much potential. read more

I received a gift card to The Blue Mug as a holiday gift. As someone who does not live in Greeley, but works here, I have visited this location a handful of times. In previous visits, I have not had any concerns with service or the products that I received; however, I have tried several times within the past week to go use my gift card. Every time, the store has been closed despite their website, posted signs, and other sources like Yelp saying they're open. Mind you, I have gone when they have allegedly been open for 30+ minutes already according to signage. Today, there was finally someone in the store; however, doors were locked/they were still not open. Needless to say, I will be throwing the gift card out as I am no longer interested in chasing down a company so I can spend my money there when their signage is unreliable. Not bad, a good alternative to the hipster franchise. I'm not a fancy coffee drinker, just want the large coffee with room for milk. This place is quiet, pleasant and convenient. Coffee tastes good, not burnt or hair-removing strong. The barista was a doll. I was having a horrible day, ordered extra shots, had been up until 3 am that morning. I had ordered coffee and a breakfast burrito. My debit card was declined. I told her to cancel the burrito, and had to borrow a couple of dollars from my friend. When I got back to the counter, she had gone ahead and made me the burrito at NO CHARGE!!! Update- the owner reached out very quickly. Just a matter of not having the hours posted on the door (sign was unplugged). Although it would be nice to note the updated hours online. Owner was very professional, and I plan on coming back to this location in the future. ----------- This review is not of the service or food, as I didn't have the opportunity to try anything given that they weren't open. I, as well as three others, have been waiting outside for over a half an hour waiting for them to open, and still no one is inside. I've tried calling and knocking, but there is no response. I drove 45 minutes to get here and will most likely not be able to get the work I came here to do finished. Can't find anywhere online where the opening time may be different, everywhere says 7am. It is my first time here, but why would I come back when it's not reliable to even open within 30 minutes of their opening time? The other people here said they haven't experienced this before, and I know things happen, but c'mon. If the hours are different than what it says everywhere online, then that's something that people should know. At the very least, a sign on the door would help. As a grad student, I need a reliable place to do work, and I'm disappointed that I tried to come here. read more

I frequent the Blue Mug several times a week. The coffee is roasted on site, not from an out of state warehouse. I can't get it much fresher than that! The brownies and bread are also made there, and made well. The Blue Mug is locally owned so the business is part of the community. It has great atmosphere (at both locations). The wifi is fast and it is easy to get on the network. The staff are wonderful! Friendly and knowledgable. They are a treat to chat with. I was glad to see a coffee shop go in where the old Starbucks was. I've only visited this place twice but sadly wasn't too impressed. My coffee was really weak/watery both times and my Son's hot cocoa was so sweet it made your teeth hurt. I was hoping they would carry fresh bagels from a local bagel shop but was told they use the pre-bagged ones you buy at the grocery store so didn't get one. Everyone seemed really friendly and the place looks like a fun place to hang out and have some coffee. I like nice strong, full-bodied coffee though and both times I tried theirs it just wasn't very good and when I go to a coffee shop I want good coffee. The first time I visited I thought maybe I had just visited on an off day and that someone made the coffee wrong or something but it was exactly the same the next time I visited so I haven't been back since. :-/ read more

I've been here twice now and thought about how to write my review. My first time there I got a coffee (plain black) and a breakfast. I really wanted to get a breakfast wrap, but I'm allergic to cheese. I was told they premake the eggs with the cheese and I could not get the wrap made with out cheese. This upset me. I don't understand why places do this when cheese is so easy to add at the end and just heat up to melt it last. I ended up getting some breakfast bagel with egg and tomato thing. I had to wait for them to go get a Tomato from the store (which I didn't mind they seemed really busy so I was given a free drink coupon). My sandwich was good, even if the bagel was just a plain old Thomas brand one. I wish it was a good local bakery bagel. My coffee was way way gross. I drink plain black coffee. No fancy flavors or anything. The roast they had was "Dark Side of the Moon" or something like that. It was way way too dark. Maybe with cream and sugar and fru-fru fancy steamed topping it's fine but it's just tooooo strong to have black. OK so on to my second visit. I had a chai tea. Since I can't have milk I asked what their vegan options were. They are Soy, Almond or Coconut milk. Which is awesome I am also allergic to soy and almond. So having coconut milk as an option was awesome. My chai was amazing. I also had the lemon poppy seed muffin. That was very good as well. Over all 4 stars. I really do like this place, their coffee is good. I have yet to order any of their food items. I would totally give more stars but the last two times I've come in it's been about a half hour until closing and the girl who was working both times gave us the stink eye for even walking in the door. She was busy taking out trash and putting everything away even though the place is still open so it made us feel really unwelcome and we won't be coming towards closing again. Plus the half and half that was sitting out was room temp and was not in an insulated carafe, who knows how long that had been sitting out. Honestly, I'm consistently amazed by this coffee shop. If you're looking for a crappy cup of coffee consisting of twice roasted beans designed to stay on the shelf for 8 months, you know, one of those super dark coffees that tastes burnt (Starbucks), then this is so not the place for you; I'd recommend McDonalds or Folgers. If you're looking for fresh roasted coffee, literally roasted within 24-76 hours of when you drink it, with smooth tones all around, then look no further. Blue mug is amazing. The coffee is perfectly roasted, brewed to perfection, and always served with a smile. And free refills in a for-here mug? Seriously?! That's hospitality!!!! All of their pastries are freshly baked by an in house chef!!! Also, the owners came around and actually spoke to us! Over time, they have gotten to know me quite well!!! I love this place! Seriously though, best coffee shop in Greeley/Fort Collins/Loveland. Hands down. Like I said, if you go into it expecting the crappy Starbucks taste (which is actually an improperly roasted bean, designed and roasted to have a longer shelf life to increase profit), then you'll be disappointed.
