-What has happened?? Have you ever eaten over-cooked scrambled eggs with some raw egg whites in them? I did. French toast was poorly cooked. I had always loved going here but this time it was not good. Their long time cook is no longer there and you can tell. Saving grace is their waitstaff. Although Autumn had to apologize for the delay in getting the food more often than she should have. She ended up not charging me for coffee, and I had not complained about the time. I was just about ready to walk out without eating though. Had waited for over half hour after ordering and the restaurant was not busy. Breakfast menu has been minimalized. Not near as many options and the pricing is weird. I ordered the Sweet & Salty (2 pcs bacon, 2 eggs,1 pc French toast -just regular slice of bread) and it was $11.25 - over priced. Will be a long while before I go back and see if things have changed for the better. read more

We have been here many times and loved it! It has always been delicious with great service. However, today we came in and none of the tables were cleaned off. When we asked who we assumed was the manager to clean off a table, she rudely told us "he's getting to it". When we finally got seated, it took the waitress 10 mins to take our drink order. 4 other tables came in after us and got their food and drinks before us. After waiting 35 minutes for our food, everything tasted awful. The potatoes were overcooked and the grits were lumpy and the biscuits were hard as a rock. We were bringing our in-laws and had talked up the place and were embassies by the service and food. Hopefully this was just a fluke. Sadly, our in-laws will probably never be back. read more

Pancakes and French fries weren't hot at all and our waitress was friendly but definitely unfamiliar with the menu. We ordered a Cobb salad, but were told they were all out of turkey. One star is for Saturday breakfast. Cook doesn't know how to fry eggs, she had 2 tries but still blew it. Sausage was over cooked to the dryness and texture of shoe leather . The potatoes were frozen, unbearable from a restaurant with the delusions of grandeur this place has. If you are going to be pretentious you should at least try to fulfill the promise . Very good, local and fresh. Coffee was delicious. I did have to ask for cream twice before I got it. Same with straw for my water. And it was very loud. That being said, I had the tomato bisque which was the best I've ever had. Ever! And I eat a lot of that. And the ham and cheese blt was beyond good. My moms meatloaf was decent and my dad's pork chop was good but on the dry side and peppery. I would definitely stick to the salads and sandwiches. Wish we could've tried breakfast. I bet it's super good. Wish this was close to me. I would get that bisque weekly. read more

The kind of restaurant you'd find in the city, but with less than fifteen miles from farm to fork. I love that there is a list of all the local farms they partner with. It's nice knowing where the pork on your bacon, lettuce, and fried green tomato sandwich comes from. Most importantly, the food is consistently good (especially the hamburgers). The prices are very reasonable. The servers are attentive and always greet you with a smile. When in the area, it's worth a visit. read more

When visiting blue bird I had an awesome experience. I ordered the breakfast omelet with toast and a side of potatoes. The whole meal was amazing and the manager also told us how it came from the farm to the table. I went with my school and everyone seemed to love it as well. Everytime I'm back in my hometown of Stanford I usually take multiple walks down to blue bird. The prices have always been a little high, however it seems like the portions are getting a bit smaller. Their baked goods are available in limited supply sometimes not even available, I haven't been able to get one of their cinnamon roles in almost 2 years. The biscuits on this last trip were dreadful, dry and a bit crispy from overcooking, even soaked in gravy. When we commented on them to the waitress we were told that yes they had been getting some complaints on the biscuits lately. This is a Stanford treasure and Their potatoes are amazing, fruit is fresh and the French toast is just to die for! However price+dry biscuits+nothing done about the complaint is leaving a bad taste. Next time I'm in town I'll stop by the ice cream parlor next door for some good local fare. But please blue bird don't let the quality and quantity slip away!! read more

The better half and I had the pure luxury of eating there this evening. We arrived and loved the interior, it is gorgeous. The hostess was right as you walk in and was pleasant, no smile but very nice. She offered us a table right by the door and she could tell we were not thrilled and offered us another perfect option. We sat and looked over the specials and menus. Server arrived about 6 minutes later and was very pleasant and wonderful. She took our drink order and appetizer order. We had the chips and dip. Was very good. The cheese option is much better than the ranch dressing but I am guessing you assumed that would be coming. For Dinner we ordered the Pear Salad and Pimento Cheese burger. My gorgeous wife had the salad and her only complain was the bowl base was a little small and was hard to cut up the salad with it in the bowl. She loved the salad though. The pimento cheese burger was my delight. I love pimento cheese and this burger WAS AWESOME. Cooked perfectly medium, pimento cheese accented the burger so well. Next time I am going to try and get some bacon on the burger too (mainly because I am a bacon addict). I am very pleased with this location and if you have seen any of my reviews before I am a bit picky and rarely give the 5 stars. I will be back to this location. I love to take day trip across Kentucky and Stanford was one of my most recent stops to visit the Bluebird Cafe, a sweet farm to table restaurant in the heart of this great little town. Causal, friendly staff and all about made from scratch yummy goodness sourced locally! My friend and I enjoyed the smoked gouda pimento cheese dip with house made potato chips followed by the fried green tomato BLT and finished off our meal with a delicious homemade Kentucky Jam cake. All were a perfect and delicious twist on classic Southern favorites! Bluebird Cafe is part of a local group that includes a great little store across the street called Kentucky Soap & Such and the Wilderness Road Guest Houses. read more

Seriously, one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. I forget the name of what I ordered, but it contained ham and fried green tomatoes. Amazing! The table agreed they were the best biscuits we had ever tasted. We also couldn't let ourselves pass up the giant cinnamon roll. We were in Kentucky visiting family and we drove and hour and a half based on the reviews we read. So glad we did! Cute town, too! Worth the stop for sure. It's a good thing we live 6 hours away. This is the best restaurant in Stanford. The atmosphere is excellent. The food is excellent. The food is innovative and beautifully plated. The prices are very reasonable. They make their own bread and desserts. Yum! However there are some areas I would correct. On the biscuits and gravy the flour tasted raw and the breakfast pan fried potatos were more like chips. I travel often and promise this little restaurant would stand apart from others whether it be located in downtown Del Ray, FL or Silver Spring, MD. This is the first restaurant I have given 5 stars. The only area for improvement might be young waiting staff that can sometimes be inattentive. As always, this is a case by case basis. This is a gem for Stanford and brings new energy to the little downtown. As for the meal: the hamburger is in my top 5 favorite. If you don't eat here then you're just plain silly. There is a great vibe in this out-of-the-way gem in Stanford KY that manifests itself in the food. On my plate today was the Fried Green Tomato BLT with Fries and Raspberry a Iced Tea. The tomatoes were just the right amount of crispy, with cheese and aioli to boot. The L on the sandwich was my favorite, arugula. I split the dessert of the day with my friend, a chocolate cupcake with an obscene amount if peanut butter frosting on top, with some pretty good coffee. Aahh, bliss. Eat here right now. Hands down, this is some place you just have to visit. Local foods, natural goodness, adorable decor. Breakfast is amazing - try the egg and avocado sandwich (BELTA for bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato, avocado). The pear salad for lunch is outstanding. the dressing is made in house from ground pears and is sooo good. Their smoothies are also good and are now customized how ever you want them. This is such an amazing little place! The Bluebird is in the adorable location of downtown Stanford and serves some delicious food. I went in for breakfast and ordered the Western Omelet with egg whites. The omelet was delicious, as was the biscuit that was served with it. Last I checked, they serve Baxter's Coffee, which is a major plus! Don't hesitate to try this place. Went to this restaurant with our son and daughter in law today which was very sweet for taking us to breakfast! We are very thankful for them however the food was not very good disappointed! I don't blame them in any way because they have always had a great experience here until today! The first mistake is the tables were dirty when we walked in and had to ask for one to be cleaned before we sat down! Next there were at least 3 other patrons that came in after us and got their drink order and food before us! Maybe it was because we weren't regulars but this is no way to treat new guests! All the food was over cooked biscuits were hard and potatoes were very over cooked and very thin almost like a over cooked potato chip! Took us 10 minutes to even get our drink order! I appreciate our daughter in law and son bringing us today and in no way reflects on them! This is clearly no way to treat your patrons however! SO WORTH the 80 mile round trip from Berea to Stanford, Kentucky! I had the Kentucky Scramble while my hubby opted for (if I'm remembering the name correctly) the Farmer's breakfast. Mine was EXCELLENT - I could not have been more pleased. My hubby's however, was edible but nothing to write home (or Yelp) about. The gravy is our only complaint, it was tasteless. Portion size - plenty! I took half of mine home and had it the next day. The excellent coffee & atmosphere are outstanding. We thought the prices were reasonable. One note, the BROWNIE, (the one that's shown in the photos), not available on a regular basis - so disappointing but not a deal breaker. We highly recommend this place. read more

This cute spot was recommended by a young lady at the Liquor Barn in Danville. I am always interested in farm to table spots and this sounded promising. Hubby had the southwest burger, friend's hubby had the house burger, and friend and I shared the pear salad and the quesadilla. Everything was delicious. The Gouda pimento cheese starter was EXCELLENT! As was the peach cobbler hubby had for dessert. Our table also shared the white chocolate strawberry pie. Also wonderful. I have a little difficulty understanding all the rave reviews, or that people travel great distances to get here. The menu selections are pretty limited; if you are not interested in having a burger, you won't find much else except for salads. If you are looking for something meatless, this is a poor choice. I had a burger and it was good -- not wonderful, not the best I've ever had, but good. And it was cooked medium rare, just as I asked. The accompanying fries were lukewarm. Not cold. But how difficult is it to serve fries while they're still hot? My main problem with the restaurant wasn't the food, however, but the noise. The lack of any sound insulation meant that it was loud, just from the talking of other diners -- too loud to carry on a conversation at a table for 7 persons. Not sure how that could be fixed. All in all, just OK. I wouldn't go out of my way to return. read more
