Because that's what you get if you just bleach your hair. Suzy understands what my Korean hair needs. And I come home admiring my hair so much ("omg how the heck did she do this? My hair can do this?") I change it up a lot: I went from just lighter on the tips, to pink, to full blonde, then went dark and let my virgin hair grow out, then yesterday I missed having blonde hair. She is the most kind, patient, smart & wise person I know. I honestly feel so relaxed and happy when I see her, because I trust her 100% both in regards to my hair and sharing things about my personal life. My hair is always healthy and I am so proud of my hair thanks to Suzy!

But that is not the case cuz my hair is a-freaking-mazing! Did I mention that I haven't had a chance to come see her for 17 months? It's hard being away from your kids for long stretches of time, but mamas gotta pamper themselves too. That's where Suzy comes in. Despite my lack of professional care for my hair, it still looked pretty damn good after all that time. Yes it was long, yes I needed a trim but the color that I initially got all those months ago didn't fade into that weird brassy orange color. My Asian sisters cursed/blessed with a Asian hair will fully understand this statement. Anyway, I can prepared with a few different colors that I liked and showed Suzy and immediately she got to work. Understanding my daily chaos, she understood my need for something with a low upkeep, yet still look great. My balayage took about 6 hours to complete, she really takes her time to be super intricate and thoughtful with each hand painted foil. And all the while my hair was getting done we had such great conversations, never awkward or forced, she did whatever she could to ensure that I was comfortable and made the hours fly by quickly. I just absolutely love love her work and I could not be happier with my hair. One thing to know about Suzy is that a busy woman. But even with all that is going on she makes time to squeeze in her people, so when I got a lucky break and secured a sitter last minute I took a shot in the dark and messaged her via IG to see if she had an opening (spoiler alert she is super responsive) and she somehow made it work. I even offered a deposit, which they declined... The trial went really well. I explained that the timing of my engagement photos depended on my fiancé's custom suit being finished. Everything seemed clear and straightforward. I also asked for recommendations for someone who could do a midi horseshoe haircut on me, and Marilyn said she could. I reached out to schedule because no she doesn't offer online booking... didn't hear back for about a week, she texts me if I wanted to come in... since I didn't hear back ... ended up going somewhere else. Later on, I tried booking another haircut. We agreed on a time, but she canceled two hours before. We rescheduled, and again she canceled two hours before, this time due to her mom being in the hospital. I tried to be understanding--I've been through similar with my own mom--so I gave her space. Even if she was going through stuff she could have told me she needs more time off. Even 2nd time around she could have messaged or called me at midnight saying I'm not well and on a good head space ... But then I noticed she was still posting on Instagram a few weeks later and pinged her. When I reached out again to move forward with my engagement hair, she told me she was mostly available after 3 PM because of her day job. She did offer more availability if she had 2 weeks notice to take a day off to open her day up more or offer a recommendation for someone with more time ...I said I could work around that schedule or 2-3 weeks notice so she could take a day off since I already paid for the trial and loved the trial look. I let her know December was hectic, so we likely needed to shoot in January or February. I was still willing to give a deposit and finalize dates. Out of nowhere, she sent a message saying we shouldn't work together anymore, claiming it was due to me calling her out for being online ( I pinged her to see if she was back to work ) and "contradicting" myself because I wasn't ready to book in December--even though I had already explained the logistics with it being the holidays and I was ready to schedule for January when confirmed and was willing to send a deposit... Sounds to me she needed to push for me to schedule in December for Xmas money or much needed cash for something big. After looking back at everything, the red flags were the multiple last-minute cancellations and the inconsistent communication. Even when trial was booked... I was told it was at the Phoenix Suites in Anaheim. No suite number no buzzer or information... I myself have a salon suite at Salon Republic and when clients book... I five them the suite number, buzzer code etc. I had to ask her how to do I enter or is there a buzzer code? Their work is genuinely beautiful, and her sister is incredibly kind, but reliability matters. Based on my experience, I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending them to someone who needs dependable booking and follow-through.
