A really nice restaurant right on the waterfront in downtown Belleville. We came as a group of 4 on a Friday night without a reservation, and lo and behold, there was a table available for us! Lucky us, because we all enjoyed the dinner. The location is fabulous, right on the waterfront, with enough parking right in front. The weather was nice, so we sat outside (highly recommended!) and were entertained by ducks mooching food from all the tables along the edge. The focus here is seafood, presented in many different ways. Yeah, they have burgers and other stuff for the landlubbers, but this is the Boathouse, not the Steakhouse, so choose accordingly. There are so many different options in the menu, but you can't go wrong with fresh fish. Service is fast and friendly, food is good and reasonable priced, atmosphere is great, we'll be back! read more

Having completed our business trip early, we decided to visit the highly acclaimed Boathouse for dinner. I ordered a shrimp cocktail, grilled salmon, baked potato, side salad, garlic bread, and lemon pie. The shrimp cocktail was excellent with large firm shrimp (6) and the cocktail sauce was spicy. The salad, salmon and baked potato were great in every way. Finally, the last choice of the lemon pie was delicious. Visited the place with my two children and spouse. Followed the Yelp bread crumbs and was very impressed. Exceptional service and phenomenal food. We ordered the halibut nuggets off the kids menu. The best meal off any kids menu anywhere period. Other dishes we ordered were the shrimp trio, fish tacos jambalaya and the Lobster fettuccine. There wasn't a single miss. The two unanimous winner were the tacos and the kids meal. Finished with coconut cream pie and chocolate truffle cake. A regular spot for the family. Although The Boathouse is very much a seafood restaurant they can cook a steak perfectly to order. The seasoning can be a little hit or miss, but when it is a miss all you need to do is let the server know and its fixed promptly. The staff here will bend over backwards for their customers to ensure their experience is top notch. They truly treat their customers with the same care, friendship, and generosity that those in the East Coast of Canada do. The bar has a great menu and is very reasonably priced. Even better is they carry selections of local beers and wines as well as known favourites. Given that it is located right by the bay it can be a little chilly at times if you are sitting by the window. That being said by the window seats have its benefits. In the winter you can normally look out and see a hockey game being played among friends and in the warmer months before the patio is open you can see the sail boats coming and going. The food I must say is top notch! My daughter will regularly ask to go here for fish and chips, and shes been asking since she was 3. The steak, fish, and all dishes are perfectly cooked, and if you're looking for a little extra flavor and spice I recommend the Crab Creole!! read more

Had a lovely meal at the Boathouse in Belleville. Our server was super helpful and our meal & drinks came quickly in this bustling business. At 5pm on a Friday evening the place was already quite busy and we were glad to have made reservations. I ordered the lobster roll which came with 1 side, I chose coleslaw. One of my dining companions didn't want the second side that came with their lobster tails and our server asked if anyone else would like the 2nd side so I piped up with a request for fries since I hadn't had the lobster roll here before and you never know just how big or small they'll be. Well I certainly didn't need them! The lobster roll was plenty ample although if I had only had the coleslaw as my side I would have been disappointed by the tiny cup. I'd love to know where the bread comes from for their lobster rolls. It was a soft baguette that didn't seem like anything the local supermarkets carry. Really, really good. The only complaint my dinner companions had was that the baked potato could have been cooked a little longer but this person can't go anywhere without complaint and surprisingly remarked about how good their meal was as we where leaving. Our server was managing 3 tables in the back corner of the resturant when he arrived to our table he was less than hospitable and had a dry personality. Not much about him was pleasant. Maybe he was over worked or losing tips due to the kitchen not pushing out food but providing us with updates on our orders or conversation may have helped make the time go by faster. 10 minutes after being seated we placed our appetizer and main course order. The main course took an hour to arrive at our table. Myself and three woman seated at a table near me all went to speak to manager to express our frustration disappointment and concerns. She offered an apology but nothing else to compensate for the wait. I sat back down and waited another 15 minutes before we asked the server if the food had even been cooked yet and if it hadn't we'd like to just get our bill leave. Minutes after having that conversation with him our food arrived and the real disappointment was about to begin. The Beer Poured poorly with no head. They did a disservice to a grear beer like Beaus. The Calamari Appetizer Something I've ordered before and enjoyed much more the first time. Although it wasn't terrible it was under fried and the coating was more soggy than crispy and just slid off many pieces of the Calamari. Captains Feast Halibut Bang for buck this meal wasn't terrible. Although the chips (the essential other half of a fish and chips meal) were soggy and unseasoned. Unfortunatley the side of fried shrimp and scallops were slightly above room temperature. Sea Scallops and Jumbo Shrimp My girlfriend ordered this and I can honestly say I've never seen a menu item so over-priced. She received 5 medium sized shrimp and 3 small scallops. 2 pieces of garlic bread which is ironic because she has and gluten intolerance and the dish was labeled as gluten free. They were also probably the largest food items on the plate. A baked potato with only butter and sour cream and a small order of soup. The seafood was cooked poorly and parts of her shrimp arrived to the table cold and she could hardly taste any of the garlic or white wine the dish was apparently cooked in. My dish had 2 scallops 2 shrimp similarly sized to hers and a large piece of breaded fish for $10 less than her meal which left us even more confused about the price point. Plain and simple it is a rip-off. If you order it you are agreeing to be ripped off, you are saying "I don't deserve what I am paying for, please serve me your mediocre garbage that I waited too long for and am too exhausted to complain about or asked to be remade." That being said she weighs 130lbs and is typically a light eater - she left hungrier than she came in. The waiter didn't ask if we wanted any dessert coffee or tea. The manager just became defensive when I asked her if my girlfriends meals portion size was correct and the resturant did nothing to appear truly apologetic or improve our overall evening. Comp a dessert, remove an item from the bill, be sincere but at the least DO SOMETHING! Paying close to $100 for a meal for two is not uncommon for us but this was one of the first meals where I had honestly felt robbed of a great evening, good food, and hard earned money. Belleville has plenty of other great resturants, I will stop recommending Boathouse to friends and colleagues and look forward to trying some of the other excellent resturants in town. read more

We have been to The Boathouse restaurant twice for lunch in the past year. Both times we were very happy with the food and the service. Our first lunch last June included a very tasty fish sandwich and seafood chowder, which we all enjoyed. Last week it was fish and chip dinners which definitely got the thumbs up from us all. We especially liked the light and tasty batter on the fish and the above average fries. The Boathouse has a lovely atmosphere, right on the water. and is nice both summer and winter. It is worth a try for sure. Next time we will try to make it for dinner. read more

I'm not from the area so I asked the front desk of any recommendations. Out of the two I picked this place. I'm here for business and decided to go out for dinner. Upon arrival at the restaurant. I was asked if I was there for a drink. Which I quickly replied, no food. I was placed at the bar for dinner. I requested a table. View on the patio was great. Service was just alright. We visited the Boathouse on Saturday the 17th of October 2020. They have social distancing in place and we were able to get seated very quickly. We had not been to the restaurant for about three years and was looking forward to their speciality fish and chips. Previous visits the fish had a very light batter and this time the Batter was very thick and greasy. The chips were also overcooked and the coffee was cold. Had a date night here on a Friday night, the place was busy but we were seated immediately and the waitress came to take our drink order right away. I order the blackened salmon and my partner order the creole chicken. It was absolutely phenomenal, I highly recommend both of these dishes and add the creole sauce if you like spice. Not only was the food amazing but the atmosphere was great, and we have an amazing view of the water without being on the patio. I will definitely be coming back and making this my regular spot! The Boathouse was the first fish and chip joint we tried in Belleville. Nothing as come even close in terms of quality. The fact that it's by the water was never a decision factor. Sure it's nice (the marina and the colours during the evening are a plus) but the quality of the fish is great, the amount of the food in your plate is excellent. You might pay a bit more then the closest fast food fish and chip place, but it is a few extra bucks well spent. I have tried different appetizers, but always the same entrees, so I might not be able to give an absolute review of the restaurant. The boathouse is the best place to get seafood in Belleville. I've been coming here as long as I can remember and enjoy sitting outside beside the water to eat. There is a reason that people keep coming back for more here. I think they could have some better appetizer options, including updating them as well as their menu to make it more towards a younger crowd since 80% of the people I see in here all the time are 70+. We will keep coming back and hoping for some newer menu choices. read more

This was our second trip to the Boathouse and it will be our last! The only reason we gave it another shot was because on the first visit my haddock was delicious even though the chips that came with this order were cold, greasy and had obviously been cooked long before my order was plated! This time around the fish again was very good and the chips were at least warm and not too old(!) but the coleslaw was tasteless & slimey! The wings were unbelievably bad!! A mess of oversauced greasy, inedible something parading as chicken wings! A wrap was tasty (how hard is it to make a wrap!) but light on filling using mostly leaf lettuce to bulk it up. A Caesar salad was over-dressed and basically just a chopped salad with a garlic dressing. Caesar was not in the room! We knew we were in trouble when the waiter informed us he was too busy to take our food menu but could take the drinks order? Even though we knew what we wanted and stated this. He ended up returning to our table a couple of minutes later and informed us his other tables were taking too long to make up their minds so he could now serve us? I don't want to hear a litany of complaints when I just want to order a meal. This restaurant should be a gem! It is located on the water with a lovely view of the marina. Stopped here for a drink and decided to come back later for dinner. Made s reservation for 1830 arrived early and the place was heaving. Had to wait 20 mins for a table outside, our choice. Once at the table we felt ignored. Had to ask for menus. After 45 minutes our order was taken. We then waited for another hour for the food to come. The food was lovely but the wait was unacceptable. Twice the manager promised some water and bread to keep us going but it never arrived. Paid and left no tip! Food is good but service was unacceptable. read more

The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because it has a nice atmosphere. The food was awful and severely overpriced for what it was and the service was pretty bad as well. We both ordered the fresh local pickerel which was apparently a big mistake. It took about 45 minutes for our food to come and when it finally arrived, it was cold, bland, and overall pretty disgusting. The fish itself was very thinly sliced and tasted like unseasoned frozen fish. The "fresh local veggies" it came with were also clearly frozen and steamed with zero seasoning - not even salt and pepper! The meal was pretty gross and although I was starving after the long wait, I couldn't stomach eating it. To top it off, the plate cost $22!!!! For that price, I really did expect fresh, local, well-made food but what I got felt like leftovers from the supermarkets freezer burned section :/ The service really didn't make anything better either. Although the place wasn't very busy, our server barely checked on us or communicated why everything was taking so long - it felt like he totally forgot about us! Literally the only reason this place gets a second star is because of the atmosphere...I would highly recommend avoiding this one! read more
