First visit. Ordered from brunch menu. Restaurant was large and had many places to sit including window seats looking out to the water that were unoccupied. There were some patrons dining but most of the restaurant was empty. Guests were made to wait to be seated, guests requested a window seat and host responded they might get one. There was a staff shortage and each team member was assigned a work area. Though personally I would have automatically seated the potential patrons the table they wanted to make diners happy, get the orders, inform the wait staff of the "exception" and help the business profit so I can have a job and receive a generous tip. The ratio of restaurants vs disposable income has changed greatly. Server was friendly. There was paid parking and connected to a hotel. Seafood chowder was hot, tasted good and had a nice amount of ingredients. Benny was ok. Water glass arrived with food inside the glass from previous diner. Entire bill was paid and tip was provided. I haven't been to any Boathouse Restaurant in the Lower Mainland for years and surprised to know this is one of the few remaining ones left. We were lucky to be able to sit with a view as the restaurant was empty. Our server though was very nice. He accommodated our request for substitutions. And when my husband's salad was erroneously given to our friend, he gave us another serving of it. The food though, is quite expensive for the quality of it, thereby making food choices limited. I did not enjoy the Blackened Black Cod I had. Size was small, some seasoning was a bit too strong while lacking in umami. Boathouse Calamari was overly coated with flour and there was more tempura veggies than calamari in this dish. Caesar Salad was shy of garlic and overall bland to taste. The Seafood Carbonara tasted like pasta in white wine cream soup rather than incorporated in the cream sauce. Overall experience was disappointing. It felt more like a diner with expensive food. This location, being by the water, would have made a popular and enjoyable place for a meal. read more

She wasn't very enthusiastic, did say that she was new as of a month ago, but if she was unsure, could have double checked. - at 2pm it became happy hour, she did not mention that, a server with experience would have. - the pop purchased was flat, she did not replace nor take off the bill, was told about the issue. - forgot to place part of the order -I inquired about a salad online, stated they had a different one but didn't seem confident in her answer. - ordered the house marinated olives. Came with 2 olives, gherkins and peperoncinis and dry cold toasted bread. Either it was an off day, or a better appy descriptor is needed. - Bruschetta board was a miss too. Again, cold toasted dry bread, but not toasted enough. Just not great unfortunately. - pay parking. I would not have batted an eye if the meal and service was good, but that was an added negative Overall, it's too pricey for the service and overall food quality. My friend and I decided to go here for dine out for our late night catch up. When we arrived, we noticed the restaurant was quite empty as it was past regular dinner hours. The host was friendly and sat us promptly. Once we got to our table, our server approached us quite quickly and asked if we wanted anything to drink. Being just off a 12 hr shift, I ordered a red bull. Once our drinks arrived, in a timely manner, our server informed us that the customary bread basket would be brought out shortly, but that it was just finishing baking in the oven. We were fine with this and placed our 3 course order with him. My order began with a lobster bisque. It was creamy, rich and flavourful. Nothing incredible, but it was of a good quality that I would expect from a place well known for seafood dishes. After receiving our appetizers, our server returned and informed us it would just be a few minutes before the bread basket arrived. At this point, I was suspecting the bread basket might never come. Throughout this time frame, my friend had to ask for her glass to be refilled with water on two different occassions, and the server was beginning to appear irritated at this for unknown reasons. For my main, I ordered the steak frites and was delighted with how my medium rare steak turned out. It was tender, juicy and the chimichurri sauce was a welcome addition. There was a fairly long delay between our appetizer being served and our mains coming out, but we were in good conversation so didn't mind the delay too much. Of note though, our apparent bread basket never arrived which was somewhat disappointing given we were promised it (without prompting or request) multiple times throughout the meal. While working our way through our mains, our server returned a couple of times to ask us how things were, but seemed to only focus their attention on me. It seemed they were somewhat ignoring my friend, and on a couple occasions she had to ask for her water to be re-filled. This wouldn't necessarily be odd, except for the fact that the server would already be there with a pitcher of water to refill my glass, but would notably ignore my friends definitely more empty glass. When she did ask for him to refill hers, he would roll his eyes and then fill the glass. It seemed very odd to both of us and was quite obvious. After we were done with our mains, we asked to get the dessert to go as it was even later at this point and we were both full. All in all, the food was good, but the service and timing was lacking. The restaurant however is clean and welcoming so that's a bonus. Given the odd situation with my friend and the lacking/slow service, I would consider other local places before returning here again. read more

I was in town visiting some family from the states. This place was shockingly the only seafood restaurant in the area. The first table we sat at had ants everywhere. The second table was on the other side of the resturaunt and better. Food was ok, nothing to write home about. I had a seafood tower. I'm not sure where to start so let's get into the ratings.. Service - 2/5 Food - 4/5 Environment - 3/5 We were invited out to have a meeting at this location and while first impression was impactful, it wasn't enough. Let's start with the service. When we sat down, the table was bare.. no cutlery. After a series of reminders (yes, it took four mentions ), they finally brought them over. But by then, we'd already been juggling appetizers without the necessary spoons or even enough plates to share. And when we requested filtered bottled water, we were instead served tap - yikes. Truthfully, I heard so many complaints from the group I was with and they grew frustrated and unhappy with the service. I believe it was the manager that may have come over to help and provide better service - a comp on a friend's meal that came out extremely late and sweetened the mood with a complimentary dessert. I actually decided to give them another overall star because of this. Food was tasty when we did indulge. Oysters were fresh and the sauces that it came with were full of flavor. Chicken strawberry salad was enjoyed as well as the benedict trio dish. My egg white avocado toast, however, was a letdown. The limp toast made it almost impossible to eat gracefully - an avocado toast tragedy, if you will. I've had better. The overall vibe? Meh. While the flavors stood out, the service and disjointed experience overshadowed the meal. It's not a spot I'd eagerly recommend, but who knows? We had a gift card so we stopped by and found out they have a "Best of Vancouver" 3 course menu for $55. Everyone in our group decided to go for that! It was a pretty empty and quiet weeknight for the restaurant. We were seated beside the window with a nice view of the Fraser River at night! They had TVs playing basketball and hockey games, much to the pleasant surprise of my loved one who is a hockey fan. The waitress greeted us when we sat down and she cleared one of our plate settings without us noticing since we were still waiting for one more person. Once our entire party arrived, we ordered from the pre fixe menu. We asked for an extra plate setting but after the bread basket and appetizers arrived, the server was no where to be seen. We decided to just get our own plates and utensils from the unoccupied table beside us. We enjoyed the complimentary bread as it was served piping hot. Love bread that is soft and warm. I ordered the Lobster Bisque to start, and I did not really enjoy the soup since it had a kick but it wasn't indicated on the menu (and I am very intolerant of spice sadly) and there wasn't much lobster or seafood flavour. I chose the Lemon Herb Crusted Salmon for my main and I enjoyed that dish overall. The salmon was well cooked, seasoned nicely, had a good crunch from the breading, and the garlic mashed potatoes were tasty. I chose the Raspberry Cake Cheesecake for dessert and this was pleasant also. It wasn't too sweet and I enjoyed the mix of raspberry cake and cheesecake together. While the food was relatively decent and enjoyable, we found the service to be really lacking. As previously mentioned with the lack of plates and utensils already, we found it challenging to flag our server down or to have her remember any of our requests such as getting drink refills, more bread, or to even pay the bill later on. Our entire meal took over 2.5 hours and a lot of it was spent waiting around unfortunately. I think our patience was tested more so because the restaurant was relatively empty, but our server was often no where to be found or she wouldn't notice us when she was there but talking to other tables and then would just leave the area. Overall, we still enjoyed our meal together since we were happy just talking and spending time with each other. But the service (or lack of it) really left an ... impression on us. The food was quite tasty and I felt the portion sizes were very generous. I had the Cheddar Burger and it was cooked to perfection. The garlic Mash potatoes were especially good. The Seafood Fettuccine was also good but a bit too spicy for my tastes. I didn't try the tenderloin but I was told it was a good steak as well. Our server was very friendly and I was nice to chat with him. The service itself was quite slow. We ended up having to wait longer than I had expected considering the number of people there for our food and drinks to come. We had ordered dessert but after 10 minutes, we cancelled the order as we felt it was a bit ridiculous. We were told it was delayed due to a large party also ordering deserts. I feel our waiter could have asked us our deserts ahead of time to help avoid this, but they're not to blame for it otherwise. The restaurant itself has a wonderful view of the river with several tables right next to the window. The booths inside the restaurant are elevated allowing those patrons to also enjoy the view nearly unobstructed. The pricing was quite high, similar to what you would pay at Piva. We had drinks and appetizers at the Boathouse several times because both the drinks and appies were awesome! The Dunamite Shrimp and Calamari were wonderful. My husband loved the fresh oysters. There was a shrimp special that we had twice, and the blistered shishito peppers were fun! It's fun to watch the people on the boardwalk and the watercraft as it passes. It took our server 15 to get our drink orders, another 15 min to get the food order, then 30 min before 1 soup arrived, and another 15 for the mains to start coming out. So from sitting down to getting dinner it was about 1 hour and 15 min. We got the seafood chowder, northwest seafood pasta, and crab and lobster ravioli. The chef was very heavy handed with the salt, I mean I love salt and usually put too much, but this was too salty even for me. We came to this restaurant for dine out. Some of us ordered the calamari on the menu, which was very disappointing. It had very little pieces of actual calamari, but huge amounts of deep fried batter. They paired it with some fried noodles and veggies, and what seemed like prepackaged sweet-and-sour sauce. The lobster bisque was standard. Some of us then ordered the sirloin and lobster. The sirloin was cooked very well, well seasoned and perfectly medium rare however there were spots of over salted Ness, and the mashed potatoes were also slightly over salted,. the service was excellent but appetizers left us wanting. we ended up with cheesecake that was labeled raspberry cheesecake, but what was really New York cheesecake with raspberry coolie on the side. Eyed up Craft next door, but ultimately decided to go to The Boathouse after having good experiences at the Port Moody location. The restaurant was near empty, yet when the hostess went to seat us, every table in the section was dirty. Service was painfully slow, especially given how empty the restaurant was. Our sever was friendly, but didn't really seem to understand the concept of how to be a good, efficient server. Brought the menus and left before asking if there were any drinks she could start us with, would have been nice to have the immediate offer of coffee, tea, or water. She then took a considerably long time to come back to take a drink order. At that point we were ready to order everything. We both ordered eggs Benny. I asked for a modification to mine - shrimp and crab instead of back bacon. I said I was fine with an up charge. Server came back nearly five minutes later to say that it was going to be a $7 up charge and asked if that was okay. I again said yes, however realized after the fact that the $7 up charge put the price at the same as the Benny trio which included one of three different types of Bennie's. I found the server and asked if I could amend my order and that was no issue. Would have been nice if the server had of offered suggestions at the time of ordering, but it she was clear she was just in it for the bare minimum required. Coffee took a very long time to come out. Food arrived shortly there after. The portion sizes were shockingly small, everything from amount of sauce to potatoes, in fact the traditional Benny came on what seemed like a side plate. Despite ordering the trio Benny for myself (a larger portion), it came with a noticeably smaller portion of potatoes than the traditional Benny. Both dishes were extremely lacking in flavour. The hollandaise sauce had a very subtle buttery flavour but lacked anything else. The eggs were overcooked, but had rubbery exteriors which implied they had sat under the warmer for too long. The potatoes were really inconsistently cooked, some were still hard inside and some were mushy. Had to ask for hot sauce which came out as a bottle of Tabasco. Server was mostly no where to be seen for the entire dining experience and had to be flagged down for a coffee refill. Ordered a side of toast but received what could best be described as warm bread. Server finally came around when we were almost done our entire meals to ask if we wanted jelly or peanut butter for the bread. Finally refilled water when she brought the bill. The only thing going for this restaurant is the window seating has a nice view of the water. If you decide to try your luck on this location definitely take some good company with you because everything else is overpriced and underwhelming. read more

Ambiance was good, though music choice was a little questionable. That is about the only good thing. It was Mother's Day, so only course menu was offered. Ordered lobster bisque, salad, Moroccan halibut & steak - medium rare + a couple of kids menu stuff, and crème brûlée for dessert. Halibut was under seasoned and overcooked. Lobster bisque was VERY salty even for me, a salt lover. They prompted me to cut my steak as it arrived - it was between medium well and well done. The kitchen cooked new one, but it was still the same, overcooked. At this point, I just took it as everyone else at the table was more than half way done eating. Quality of meat was fine. I just wish they cooked it right. When it came to dessert, we were told they were out of crème brûlée and had to choose between "chef's choice" that happened to be bread pudding or chocolate lava cake which was a +$5 option. They said we can order ONE lava cake without charge. Hmm, when they ran out of our choice while it wasn't even late in the dinner time, we have to pay for a substitute?? We went with one of each. Lava cake did not have lava inside, outside was crunchy. Yes, they really overcooked it. Bread pudding was more like bread than pudding. Yes, they overcooked it. We didn't bother talking to staff, but gave up. Every time we go to the restaurant, it's underwhelming, but we go back once in a while to see if it's better. I think it was the last meal at this place. I'd suggest people to go elsewhere if you are looking for a nice meal. read more

Very disappointing experience. Unfortunately, every part of our dinner at the New Westminster Boathouse location was underwhelming. From the confused hostess station, to the inattentive wait staff, to the mediocre food, we felt really let down by our time at this establishment. We were seated outside (when our reservation was for inside), no one came to light the heater despite the promise, and no server ever came to take our order, so we moved inside to the bar. Again, we were totally ignored, tables weren't bussed, and finally a server hurriedly took our order. The margarita was cloyingly sweet with nothing on the rim. The lobster bisque was room temperature and watery, the clam chowder was also watery, more like a broth. Shishito peppers were undercooked and served without any dipping sauce. We decided to cut our losses and pay our check, but were unable to flag down our server. We paid the check at the bar and high-tailed it to another restaurant to salvage the night. Not surprisingly, there were other people at the new restaurant who had also fled the Boathouse in search of a decent meal. The problem with this location appears to be poor management and lack of staff training, as we've had good experiences at other locations. read more

Boathouse is part of the Landry Select Group of restaurants. Their food are tasty but nothing like an eye opener. I came here with B. I got the smoked Salmon Hash and B got the Bacon Cheeseburger. B loved the Bacon cheeseburger. My smoke salmon was tasty but there were lots of areas that needed improvement. The first time the chef made it and bought it to my table there were two flaws with the pouched eggs. One was that I asked for soft and it came out over cooked and secondly that it had egg shells in it. The server later replaced it for me. The portion is quite small for this dish and also there was hardly any salmon (2 tiny pieces to be exact and each piece is tinier than half my pinky) in it for $20.49. I don't think the value is there. Also I did find that it had too much hollandaise sauce making the entire dish soupy and drenched in sauce. This resulted the potatoes not having that crispiness that I expected. In terms of B's bacon cheese burger. The fries were very delicious. It definitely had more flavor than my usual go to Boathouse in Kitsilano. We also got the mocha cake. It was very delicious. Not too heavy and it was great for a dessert after our meal. We came here during Covid times. The restaurant was super quiet on a Saturday. I counted and there were only 4 tables including us. We got window seat and that was nice. Decor was nice. The food is ok but not worth the price tag. Service was adequate. If the view wasn't so nice at night I would give it 2 stars. Had not been here for years but dined here recently and had penne pasta with side of prawns. The prawns were overcooked (burnt on ends) and strangely tasted like bleach?! I told our server but not sure they took it off the bill as I wasn't the one paying. $14 extra for 4 yucky prawns! My dining companions had better luck with their chopped salads and steaks but I'm not in a rush to return. I can see why the low rating. read more

Our group of three people returned to the Boathouse for dinner on January 12, 2025, to take advantage of the discount offered by the Manager, Leshia Kwan, to make up for our negative experience with the Thanksgiving turkey dinners on October 14, 2024. This time our meals were excellent and enjoyable. Our waitress, Jessica, deserves special mention. She was the most professional server that we have seen in a long time. She calculated the various discounts allowed on our bill in a friendly and efficient manner. Thanks also to Kevin and his team for investigating our original complaint and coming up with a satisfactory solution. I expect better from The Boathouse. It was never crowded when I was there and that spoke volumes. For the price it charges, the quality of food is so-so. Nothing fancy or memorable. I think people come here to celebrate special occasion (but really, I think there are better places but not in New West) or because there are not many choices in the area, especially during night time. During summer and when the weather is clear, it is nice to sit at the patio with a drink. The drinks are better than the food. That is sad for me as I love seafood but this is not a place for it. Worst Mother's Day lunch ever. Never, ever have I complained about a restaurant. This one well deserves it. It is not acceptable to make people wait 90 minutes for their meal, which was cold and unappealing. Avacado toast could have been prepared by a 3 year old, and the bread was like Wonder Bread. Asked to speak to a manager. That didn't happen. If you're going to make people wait that long for their food, then hire more kitchen help, or limit your seating! And to top it off, we were compensated with a free appetizer coupon, WITH the purchase of an entree. Ha! Am never going back there. Way overpriced for the quality and service. read more

Was a bit hesitant to come here based on the star rating and some of the reviews I read, but WOW I must have lucked out because it was a fantastic experience. Service: First off, I have to mention our server Seton. He was phenomenal. The group I was with all mentioned how attentive and how genuinely nice he was. His timing was perfect for everything and knew exactly when to touch base with us to see if everything was good. Unfortunately, the staff working the front weren't as welcoming and I did witness a bit of an awkward exchange with them and another group. It's for this reason that I have chosen to give the restaurant 4 stars instead of 5. Food: Not one person in my group said anything bad about the food. Which to be honest, is quite rare for us. There's usually one person that has an issue. In fact, one admitted that they too were hesitant when they found out we were eating at Boathouse but then they immediately voiced their pleasure with their food after a couple of bites. I personally loved the risotto. Had the perfect amount of shrimp and chorizo; and although the portion may look small in the pic, the bowl was deep. Would I come back? I think I would just to see if tonight was a rare occurrence because right now I'm having a hard time grasping why it has such a low star rating. read more

I haven't been here in many years but in the last month I have been here twice. The first experience wasn't good. The server ignored our table of five and it was a challenge to get service. Last night; however, we had the best service. This experience is what made this a 4 start review and not a 2 or a 1. A friend and I went for the Christmas Feast offering and while it was on the high end price wise ($50 pp) it did include an appetizer, main and dessert. Now if only it had included a beverage, it would have been perfect. I was properly indecisive about my wine order and our poor server was very nice about it. When I finally knew what I wanted she wasn't around, figures, but what impressed me the most was that she apologized, advised she'd been held up by a 12 top and wanted to know what I wanted. We didn't get that kind of explanation last time we were there. I respect honesty and that got my attention. To be honest, I wasn't fussed about the time either. Now onto the food. I had the Sweet Chili Chicken appetizer, the Dungeness Crab Ravioli and Mocha Ice Cream Pie because they are all so random, don't seem to go together and well, I wanted it that way. All of the food was delicious, nothing bad to be said about the flavour of any of the dishes. I was, unfortunately, left hungry after the ravioli. The portions were small compared to my friends prime rib. They even had left overs. I sadly, did not. Myself and 2 friends came in here for dinner,was not busy that night so we had a table in no time.. It is a huge place in a very nice location,situated near the water and the view is so majestic weather its day or night time. Service is excellent...fast,no single complaint from the 3 of us. we ordered dishes with veggies,sea foods and curry chicken and they were all tasted good,actually it was a b-day dinner for a friend,boat house gave us a courtesy cake with a candle and we were very thankful for that The place has free wifi and its working good,washroom is like a hotel nice and immaculately clean,high ceiling that matches beautiful drapes,big tables and nice westernized chairs. there were long chairs by the waiting area,huge space to move around decors are contemporary actually more on western style.Huge Tv monitors. Noise level is average when we came i just do not know if how it likes on a busy nights. There is no free parking ,underground parking is cheaper on evenings. Worst service of my life! We went here this morning since we are staying at the hotel. Ordered promptly and waited 30 mins and still no food. My husband had to leave for work and they still served the coffee and food despite him leaving. They charged me for both of us despite in the end being alone. I got the food taken off but the coffees were still there. The food took almost an hour to arrive and refills took ages. The service was very lazy too. Won't be back. Our server Michael is very friendly and always check what we need. Four of us ordered the 3-course meal and food serving time is a bit slow than usual. Very disappointed and disgusted with the lack of service here! We came in today for lunch and the hostess refused to seat us- she said "well we have a large table in right now, and our servers are too busy". We looked and saw the restaurant was mostly empty- the entire bar side had no patrons.... We asked if we could sit on the bar side/up at the bar... she again said no "the bartender is not capable of serving you while making drinks for the large table" "you'll have to wait 30/40 minutes" Never in my 10 years of being a server did I turn down a table the way we were turned away.. the hostess could easily have said, we have a large table and your wait might be longer than usual is that alright...? We ended up going somewhere else and spending our$100 there instead. read more

Were seated at 4:50 pm but told the Happy Hour prices were over, even though it's on the menu that Happy Hour is until 5 pm. Oysters were tasteless except for the table salt they were washed in. Server literally did not know a white wine from a red wine. My daughter wanted a banana split for dessert but was told they don't serve them. My daughter pointed to a patron eating an ice cream at the next table and asked what it was and the server said that it was a parfait. She had to say, "Well, I would like a parfait then." It was very unsatisfactory all in all. I spoke to Manager with my complaints and did not get any satisfaction there either. We are never going back. read more

Service was generally good although food was slower to arrive compared to our usual Boathouse (it wasn't busy - on a Saturday night even). Steak was somewhat disappointing as it was luke warm, had a significant amount of gristle, and wasn't cooked medium-well like I ordered. The meal was not up to usual Boathouse standards, especially for the premium price you're paying. It seems the menu changed. The selection of steak (esp .sizes) was reduced and buried at the bottom of the menu. They used to have a meal option that included salad and dessert which was missing. I was so unsatisfied with my meal I ended up picking up a hamburger on my way home. Not their fault, but traffic leaving the Quay was a nightmare likely due to the bridge and other construction. It took us 30 minutes just to leave New Westminster and was beyond frustrating navigating the maze of street restrictions. If you've never been there before the restaurant could be difficult to find, and if it's peak times, you might have issues figuring out where to park. This might explain why we could get a last minute reservation at this location while the White Rock location was booked. We often go to the Boathouse several times a year but after this experience, I'd rather barbecue steaks at home which are better (and warmer) than the one I paid $35 for. If the menu change is the same at all Boathouses, we are unlikely to come back as the lack of value and selection is a deal-breaker. read more

Nice ambiance, good view, good service. Food quality vs price, I would give it 3 star out of five. But the ambiance and service gets 4.5 stars!! We had Wild Maple Salmon and Crispy Coconut Shrimp.... it may not be the best we had, but it's prepared well. The location is nice, especially for a nice walk after the dinner!! read more

I've never been let down by the Boathouse. 4 of us came in for some tasty, tasty lobster. We all ordered the 1.25lb lobster and were delighted with the taste and service that accompanied our crustaceans. They weren't cheap, around $40 per person, add a bottle of wine ($35) and a few other bevies and you have a $300 bill. (Good thing I got gift cards for Christmas!). We were seated next to the window with a view of the river. All very pleasant. A+ read more
