Returned to this place as we wanted seafood. The clam chowder was disappointing. There were only 3 clams in the chowder. I had the Tuscan chicken chorizo penne. I could only find 3 small pieces of chorizo. Shrinkflation at its best. The fish tacos came with three and they were flat on the plate. Lots of red cabbage covering them which was taken off. Went for dinner the other night, was seated had a very nice waitress. We all ordered the cod and chips, order came quite fast, at first glance our orders looked great. Unfortunately the panko battered fish was very oily and the cod was hard to find, the fish was so thin you could barely see it, it was all panko. My husband and I decided to go out for lunch today. He was craving a burger. We hadnt been to Sharkeys in some time. I didnt feel like a burger so I opted for today's special: halibut tacos and soup. As a real foodie I am diffcult to impress. I have to say I was so happy I did. Two smallish lighly fried hslibut in mini soft flour tacos. A pickled onion a bit of slaw and guacomole and cilantro. We needed a place for dinner in the Delta area and I found Sharkey's Seafood Bar & Grille online. We wanted a place with indoor seating, and emailed the restaurant with some questions and to make a reservation. They were very responsive, and made our Friday night reservation without issue. When we arrived, our name was on the list, and they promptly seated us in an area that was near the patio, but still inside. It was a little too warm with the sun coming in, so we asked to move farther inside and they were amenable without issue. Our server was good, attentive, and nice. The food wasn't really memorable - which doesn't mean it was bad; the fries were really good on all our dishes. It seems like Sharkey's Seafood Bar & Grille is a popular place for locals. We were a group of 7 hoping to have a nice Sunday meal. We all ordered different meals & each of us were sadly disappointed in the food. 1st off, they were out of a lot of menu items that were on the menu! Secondly, the majority of our meals were cool, or cold including the garlic mashed potatoes & chicken sticks. My salmon tasted very "fishy" not like fresh salmon should taste. The coleslaw had a dressing that wasn't up to par, tasted off. The flat iron steak was tough, hard to cut with a steak knife. Our caesar drinks were not what they used to be. They tasted mediocre, at best. My husband ordered a coke and it was $4.75 and no refill offered! Sharkeys used to be the place we took out of town guests to enjoy a good local meal. After driving by on our way to berry picking, we decided to try it out for a late lunch. They had a patio that extended out towards the water. It was a nice day to be sitting outside, so we opted for the patio. The servers were super friendly and very attentive. Sometimes being seated outside, it is more difficult to get the server's attention, but they frequently checked on us to make sure everything was ok. My friend ordered their cod sandwich with Boston chowder. The sandwich was quite a large portion. It was more like two sandwiches. My friend said it was tasty, but the bread could have been toasted a bit more. I had the mussels in a tomato bouillabaisse with sweet potato fries and a salad. The portion of mussels was quite large. I was surprised with how much veggies was served with the broth. There was plenty of tomatoes, celery, and carrots. The broth was tasty on its own and the mussels were delicious. Same goes for the fries, but you can't really go wrong with them. The salad wasn't anything special, but I just wanted to have some more veggies with my meal. The best thing about this place so far is the view. Negatives, the prices are insanely high, I didn't order food as I couldn't justify spending doing $14+ on an appetizer, especially when it doesn't look that good. Menus have spelling errors all over the place and are not consistent, and the decor isn't consistent either which is frustrating. Ordered a cucumber thyme caesar and had to ask for a side of Clamato because it was insanely spicy, and I love spicy caesars, but it was not drinkable. Disappointing meal Saturday August 15th at Sharkey's Seafood Bar & Grille in Ladner. We both ordered the following menu item with different sauces. Seafood Penne Clams, salmon, cod, scallops and shrimp, with either white wine sambuca or chipotle cream sauce 20.99 Both our dishes were covered with thick sauce atleast five times the amount needed covering the pasta and seafood. Returned mine requesting less sauce and received plate back exactly the same. Wish I had thought to take a picture. Meal was unedibile and was not offered a discount. Will not be returning! It is rare in the lower mainland I can mention price in a review as a positive,.. but Sharkey's is a bit cheaper than most pubs around these parts. The good news is that this doesn't seem to sacrifice quality or service. This place has an awesome patio,.. that is where you want to sit, not so much in the dated indoor part (unless you like Captain Highlighner style). The food offered is beyond the regular pub fare for 2 reasons: they have a number of healthy salads that don't just pay lip service to pacify vegetarians and health conscious people,...AND,.. they are a seafood place so nothing is some frozen rehashed meat thrown on a bun. This is real food, but you can still get your unheart-smart fish and chips if you like,.. only in the good way. I had a salmon filet sandwich and it was fantastic. My dad had a salad that looked awesome. The beer selection here is good. Come on a sunny day,.. I now have a place to pair with a visit to Westham Island. read more

I used to love this restaurant but the last 2 times I''ve been there it has gone downhill. Three things that I tried to order that where on the menu were not available.( our reservation were for 6PM so the kitchen shouldn't be out of menu items so early) I decided to have the salmon .It was so dried out and over cooked I took this $24 item home to my dog.(she seemed to enjoy it) The vegetables where way overdone and soggy. I had desert because I was starving and the chocolate cake was good. My friend had a hamburger and although her hamburger patty was good her bun was stale. Been going to Sharkeys for years. Seems that they've really dropped their quality. I kept it simple and ordered the halibut and chips, my husband ordered the cioppino. The fish and chips was dry and over cooked. The Cioppino was bland and the seafood was over cooked and rubbery. My thoughts are they need to make some major changes. read more

Sharkey's has it all - atmosphere, location, and a great beer selection! It is one of those places where you second guess your order before getting your food, because everything coming out of the kitchen looks incredible! I ordered the Cioppino, and it was a winner from start to finish! The base was flavourful and light, and they sure don't skimp on the seafood! The garlic toast and caesar salad were also delicious. It has a nice interior and the service was good, but I think it's definitely on the pricier side than it needed to be. We ordered a noodle dish, a shrimp salad, clam chowder, and fish&chips. I thought the noodle dish was so so, they surprisingly give you a lot of shrimp on the salad, and my favorite was the fish&chips dish. Their clam chowder was yummy in my tummy and the beer is pretty good too. The thing about Ladner is that it's still a small town. I mean, the population is growing, but mostly with people who work in Vancouver and use L-Town as a place to store their stuff and crash at the end of the day. This is a good thing, I think, because it means that the shops and restaurants mostly hold onto their small town feel. Sharkey's is a great example - hit the patio on a Friday night and you see a cool cross section of old timers, families, and underage kids pretending they are in a pub and trying to score a beer from the waitress. The vibe is totally casual - we'd roll in for beers and burgers and end up sitting there till 10pm on a regular basis. I mean, it was kind of our local, even though it wasn't really a bar - it has that pub kind of feel, you know? Plus we could bring the kid so he didn't have to sit at home and have microwaved burritos for dinner. The only downside to the patio is that there's a strip of parking lot between it and the river. After you've had a few beers, though, it doesn't bother you so much. read more

An old friend was in town briefly, picking up a boat in Ladner to bring it down to Florida. I brought him for lunch at Sharkey's, knowing that their food was dependable. It did not disappoint. I had the calamari, slaw and chips. He had cod bites, chips and chowder. The chowder was inhaled, cod was too plentiful to finish. The calamari was a little bland for my taste but you could not fault the cooking. We chatted about old times. A crowd came in with their paws dogs in training. The place continued to fill up. Came here last night for dinner with momma bear - it's 2 for 1 cod and chips, if you get a drink! Sweet! Fish was panko-breaded, the best kind of breaded! Cod was a little overcooked for my liking, but better a little on the rubbery side than on the "Am I going to die from food poisoning" side, right? Chips were freshly made, crips, thickcut and overall delicious. Tartar sauce was homemade and awesome. No complaints. Especially about the price! We were in the area to visit the West Coast Seeds store, and spotted Sharkey's while driving in. It was lunchtime, so we decided to try it. I ordered a salmon burger (the one without wasabi sauce) with roasted garlic, and my companion ordered cod fish and chips. Mainly the style of food is basic, but they do basic extremely well. My salmon was perfectly moist, not like what you sometimes get in a salmon burger. The tomatoes were good quality in mid-June. The sauce was not generic. The roast garlic extra was $1, and it was quite a lot of garlic--say half a head. My companion's cod was also exquisite, somehow better than most fish and chips, though I don't know why. The fries weren't the best fries we've ever had, but they were perfectly adequate--absolutely no sad or yucky fries in the bunch. If the fries had been a notch higher, I would give this place 5 stars. The service was also friendly, peppy, attentive but not excessively so. Looks like a popular place--I saw one woman leaving with three large bags of takeout. If I ever have a reason to be in Ladner again, I will definitely be stopping at Sharkeys. read more

Second time I've been here in the past 12 months or so. It's been a good experience both times. While the place is somewhat dated for decor, the service and food make up for it. I really like their selection of seasonal beers that feature local breweries in BC and the northwest region of the US. The service is great and very accommodating for kids. A great menu selection for children and the staff were very friendly to my kids. I sense this is a favorite hangout for locals. The place was 75% full upon arriving and there was a ton more people waiting for a table when we were leaving. The staff as I sad were great. Very friendly and prompt. As for the food - it was as I expected. Using local seafood and ingredients. I got the Ciapponcia - the spelling is wrong and their website sucks no menu!!! Anyways... It was fantastic. It was loaded with seafood and tasted great. It was a great meal for one person. I also tried their clam chowder. It was good but not the best chowder I've had. I am impressed by this place now all they need to do is update the decor and they will be rocking even more. read more

I've eaten there twice now across the years, and have been impressed neither time. The last time, I ordered the cod & chips. The fish was obviously frozen--not unavoidable this time of year. However, the interior was barely cool, and definitely mushy. I considered not eating it at all after the first few bites, and actually worried a bit about food poisoning. (Fortunately, it was not toxic.) The chips were so-so. My partner had the shrimp flatbread, and was disappointed that the bread came cold rather than being heated. We had lunch here yesterday with my daughter and parents. My father ordered the kalamari, it was so tough and rubbery he couldn't eat it . The server never came back to check on how we were enjoying our meals , nor did she come to clear our plates when we had all finished ( except my father, who didn't eat his ). I finally went up to the bar to ask that they send someone with the bill.I gave him my fathers plate, the meal was barely touched, and I told him how it was too rubbery to be eaten. He started to give me an excuse about why it was like that . We paid and left and definitely won't be back . Absolutely awesome! It was my best friends birthday and we decided to venture out to their restaurant as we hadn't been in a couple years! From the lovely waiter who took us to our table to the bus girl who kept dishes clear, thumbs up! Our waitress was 5 stars plus and honestly I mean that. Food, we split six raw oysters that were the perfect size and shucked well; no shells! We shared cod bites and the Ladner express done in the white wine broth, yummy times ten I'm a craft beer nut and their selection did not disappoint. So disappointed with this restaurant. Service took SO LONG!! Food was cold, my soup tasted like mold, the server was nice but super slow. We went for one of our favourite meals, halibut and fries. Food was great BUT then we were gouged on the bill. Current price is $18 for 1 piece meal and $8 more ($26 total) for a 2 piece meal. We were fine with that but decided to order only one 2 piece meal along with 1 extra piece of halibut and share the order. You would think they would charge another $8 for the 3rd piece as they do for the 2nd piece, but no, they charged double that or $16 for a single extra piece. $16! We were floored. Our large senior walking group (18 people) went to Sharkey's for an early lunch. The organizer had made the reservations ahead of time and we all were there by 11:40 A.M. Since 6 of us were there at 11:30 a.m. sharp I asked the waitress to take our orders and to put it in to the kitchen. Then as the others arrived she could take their orders and that way the kitchen would not have to deal with 18 orders all at once. That seemed fine. (We had made these arrangements at other restaurants and it had worked out well). Within the hour it got very busy at the restaurant and we were still waiting for our meal. We spoke to our waitress and she told us she was waiting for all the orders. We then spoke to the manager who told us they were very busy and that they serve smaller tables first and we should be patient. For those who wanted beverages and water were provided. Finally, a little after an hour our orders came. Since 10 of the 18 ordered the special: a cup of Muligawtawney soup and an almond crusted cod sandwich it should have been very easy to put this order out quickly. My food was adequate. It was hot, the soup was good and the sandwich, although very bland with little condiments or vegetables was palpable. When the bill came the 18% gratuity had also been added on. Nobody minds paying the gratuity when the service is good but this was an insult. I would NOT recommend this restaurant for large groups as obviously they don't deal with that well. As for the food and ambience, if we are out that way a few of us may return but certainly, never again as a large group. read more

Just got some takeout here. Fish was good but boy that tartar... bobby flay couldn't whip up a tartar like this. With the tartar being so phenomenal, I used it on the fries and ran out for the fish. Talk about a rookie move. From the day I left womb, battered fish was in my blood. Today, my first experience of Panko encrusted breaded has opened me up to experiences. Tried this for the first time as I happened to be in the neighbourhood. Ordered a wrap to go. Everything was fresh but really seemed like it was a bunch of pre-made costco food put together. For example the rice tasted like uncle ben's (with msg), the chicken wrap was basically caesar salad (with croutons, salad dressing etc.) and a few pieces of chicken.
