This was our first time here after reading so many good things about this place on "Yelp". The Deli is inside of a strip mall so you will have to be on the look out for it or you'll pass it. Albermarle rd is a very busy street, making left and right turns in the middle of the street is difficult. The Charlotte drivers there are not all friendly. ( be prepared tobe honked at). The parking is large so you won't have a hard time parking near the restaurant. Service was fast, we were greeted right after we entered the store. I really love this place!! It's an Albemarle rd treasure that can easily go uncovered if you don't pay attention. I stumbled upon it a little over a year ago when I was looking for sandwich shops and they had just done their grand opening. I adore their breakfast bagels, and they are so affordable at only $5. The only other items I've tried are the Cuban sandwich, which was delectable and one of the few authentic Cubans that you can get around Charlotte. There is a perfect balance of flavors, and no flavor overtakes the other. The tres leches is fantastic also, and there is a very large helping. Check this place out! I can't think of a worse first time experience. I walk in excited to try a new and local place. There is one customer eating at one table and children of an employee at another. There are no other customers so I walk up to the cashier and order two sandwiches and an empanada to go. I'm given my receipt with my order number. I watch as one person who ordered before me gets their order then another person who called their order in gets their order. No big deal. I start to wait. A couple walks in, orders empanadas, receives their empanadas and walks out. At this point it had been, it had been 15 minutes with ZERO customers in the place. Literally just me standing there. Another person walks in, asks me if I'm in line, I say nope I'm just waiting on my order that's taking a while. He proceeds to stand and wait for someone to take his order. I still wait and I watch an employee from the kitchen leave, go next door, and come back with food. I'm still waiting. The employee behind the register is just laughing and talking with his employees all while I'm waiting, plus another person waiting to order! The entire time I was in his line of sight. The employee saw me waiting and never asked me what my order was or if he could help me. Finally, I walk up to the register with my ticket and he asks what's your order number? I tell him my order number and he remarks oh it's been up here the whole time! I was pretty ticked off at this point. I didn't have earbuds in, I watched him call multiple order numbers but for whatever reason he decided not to call mine so I know he never called my order number. He just sat there and watched me wait plus another customer who was waiting to order. Again, there were no other customers in the place! Literally me and another customer waiting to be helped while this employee did nothing. I let him know it was my first time there and it is definitely my last. So @dailyspecialclt on IG posted about this "hidden" gem and of course I had to try it. I love these "mom and pop" type places because usually the food is more authentic, delicious and more reasonable in price. First attempt was a bust because just as we pulled up they were closing a bit early because they'd sold out so I vowed to return the next morning and I did. The place is clean, nicely decorated and lively with great Latin music playing over the television. I wanted a chopped cheese but it wasn't 11 yet so I ordered a bacon, egg and cheese on a Kaiser and a coffee(coffee bustelo) and then paid for a chopped cheese and a Cuban sandwich to pick up later. As I sat there, many people came in looking to get lunch not realizing it didn't start until 11 so keep that in mind. And they are indeed open on weekends despite what was posted on Yelp at the time. The breakfast sandwich came out with that good bacon in it, not like the cheap super thin kind at many breakfast spots. It was hot, cheesy and the Mayo and ketchup actually worked well on the sandwich. The bread was fresh and just the right texture! It was just like I used to get on my visits to New York and in some cases better. The coffee was hot and was pretty good but I would have liked it a bit stronger, though I'd order it again. The place really started to fill up at 11 and so I dipped out only to return 45 minutes later to pick up my lunch order. I arrived and it was ready and waiting for me, so I grabbed it and went to the car to indulge, post pics of course. Did you really even eat it if you don't take a picture and post it on Yelp or IG first? LOL! The chopped cheese sandwich was moist, with just the right amount of sauce and basically was a cheeseburger with a spin. Next time, I'm getting raw onions added because what's a burger without onions? Fries were good and the Cuban sandwich made with roast pork, ham, Swiss, mustard and pickles had a hot press to get that crisp outer crust and those grill marks. Sheer perfection! Next trip I'm trying the hot dog, burger and empanada because I feel obligated to try them to have a full understating of just what The Bodega Deli is all about. Be patient, they get busy and if you're a NY'er and looking for the bodega cat sitting on the loaf of bread, it's there's. Just look around and you'll see him. He's a cute little fellow. LOL! I had the chopped cheese, it was cool but it was dry they were supposed to put the pink sauce on it but they didn't they ran out of lettuce and it didn't have tomato on it either now that I think about it. Walked in this place the other day to eat with my wife. My wife and I decided to eat in the restaurant/store. As we are eating the big/heavy set Hispanic dude with the fade (probably owner) that works in the kitchen, came out and was just leaning against the counter. After my wife and I finished eating we quickly left the store. She then told me after we left that the guy kept staring at her, which made her feel uncomfortable. I did notice my wife looking uncomfortable as we ate but I did not question it at the time. I don't know what type of business they trying to run here but I wont be spending my money here again. I mean I get why he was starring, my wife is beautiful, but I don't appreciate the lack of respect he has towards the customers. I have to give this place a 3 star rating because I called and placed a pick up order at 12:30. Picked up my hungry man sandwich and got back to the office by 1. I was about to take a cheese pull picture and that's when I noticed two strands of hair. I tried to call them but I kept getting their not available message. I went back to the deli and brought my sandwich. The lady saw me with it and she stopped helping the customer that was in front of me and helped me with my issue. I whispered to her that I found hair in my sandwich and she told me she would make a new one. As she took my sandwich to the back I looked through the window and saw that she showed the cooks the sandwich. They had the "I don't see any hair" facial expression. When she finished helping the customer I showed her the picture I took of the sandwich with the hair. She replied back oh and then proceeded to the back and tell the cooks something. That's when I felt like they thought I was making it up. Anyways I got a new sandwich and it was good. The food is great but if you do have an issue with your food I recommend taking a picture before bringing it to their attention. read more

We tried take out at Bodega Deli tonight. The space was very clean and inviting. Both the lady who took my order and the gentleman who gave me my order were super friendly. I had a chopped cheese and it was super tasty! I would definitely get this again! I wasn't the biggest fan of the fries. They were soft crinkle cut fries. I prefer a crispier fry. You get a mountain of them, so, if you like crinkle cut fries, you won't be disappointed. My wife had a Cuban. She liked it, but said she had better. I tried a bite and thought it was excellent too. We also tried the Colombian Dog. It was fully loaded with good flavor. The toppings got a little mushy but that wasn't a dealbreaker. We also had a tres leches for dessert and it was very tasty and moist. The price was great $8-$12 per entree with huge portions. Well definitely be back for the chopped cheese and to try some of the other things on the menu. read more

The woman running the counter was so sweet. The food was average. I had the chopped cheese and fries and wasn't impressed. The ingredients could have been fresher.
