I ordered the Double Smash burger on recommendation of the server with a side of fries. They had my food out and ready in under 10 minutes. While I waited I noticed the outdoor space. This place looks like it is probably a lot of fun to bring with some friends and your dog to grab a few drinks on a nice afternoon. The burger was huge! It had a robust flavor with a hint of spice. The fries were seasoned, but lacked a little flavor. Overall, this is a great burger, that is amplified by the venue, music, and good service. My one recommendation is Sunday at 12:00 pm may not be the most bustling scene, so go a little later on a nice day!

The chairs look like they escaped from a 1950s diner and that's how everyone likes it. The catfish is the real deal -- cornmeal-crusted, perfectly seasoned, tender inside with just the right snap on the outside. The shrimp are butterflied, large, perfectly breaded, and fried with the same care. Hush puppies that are neither greasy nor dense, which sounds simple until you realize how rarely anyone gets it right. There's a New Orleans soul to this place, and some Memphis too, but nothing precious about it. No one here is performing. Farmers, families, folks still in their work clothes. The people who cook this food grew up eating it every Sunday at grandma's table, and it shows in every basket. If mudbugs are still on the menu when you visit, don't overthink it. Order them. The Flying Fish isn't trying to be anything. That's exactly why it's everything.
