The growth and development I've seen in my daughter since she started with them has been remarkable - I'm amazed by her milestones every day. As much as I wanted to like this school because of the initial tour (which is gonna be the only…read moretimes that you might ever see a director or the owners) and the proximity to us, the experience for us was disappointing on many levels. We left three years ago after several months of enrollment, yet I STILL have negative feelings about our time there and unfortunately, I continue to hear from others about some of the same issues. I was initially very enthusiastic about Mariner and even recommended it to two friends, both of whom stayed And were quite happy. In my case unfortunately, things did not work out and turned unpleasant quickly. In my son's class, one wonderful teacher left, followed shortly by the other. Within a short period of time, the class went from a teacher-to-child ratio of approximately 1:8 to 1:22 children. The replacement teachers who showed up over night were very young, no native English speakers and without credentials or experience I would expect from teachers responsible for so many young children. More concerning to me were the safety issues. On two occasions, my son came home with unexplained bruises. The second incident ultimately led me to withdraw. I received him back with a huge bruise, and no one at the school could explain how it happened! Two days later was then told that he 'had a habit of rubbing his head against the carpet'--something he had never seen before and I have never seen since. During my meeting with the director, it became obvious that someone was not watching my son and he got injured, but they were not clear about how it happened. Do not send your child here! We immediately withdrew and while Ms Jenny and Ms Pat handled the situation courteously and refunded tuition and deposit without delays, the experience left me deeply concerned. During the time my son was enrolled, there was also an extraordinary amount of staff turnover. Several teachers who had left stayed in touch with us and told us they had left because of poor working conditions and low pay ($13/hr). There was also a woman at the front door (Ms Jessica 2021-2023) who was consistently rude and made morning drop-off unpleasant for families. She was eventually replaced only after she moved to New York. Another thing that always bothered me was the overwhelming smell of cleaning chemicals. I understand and appreciate the importance of cleanliness, but my son would often come home smelling strongly of Fabuloso. It was so strong that I found myself wondering whether the school was relying too heavily on chemicals rather than using more thorough cleaning methods such as deep or steam cleaning. I genuinely dreaded that smell when I picked him up. To make a long story short, there are better options out there. After leaving Mariner Montessori, we enrolled our son at Children's Village in West University, and our experience there was absolutely wonderful year after year. Mariner Montessori was a very difficult experience for us, and unfortunately, even years later, I still have not forgotten it. I heard a similar concerns from another parent, and finally decided it was important to share my experience as well. I hope this helps other families make an informed decision. Each school has their pros and cons.

I was really excited about him attending the…read moreschool because it was a Montessori and they were more reasonably priced than where my daughter attended several years before plus they provided diapers/wipes. Ms Abby seemed very professional and stayed on top of everything happening at the school. Everything was going good until it wasn't. He'd caught hand, foot and mouth after attending for a few weeks, had a couple of falls, one that I felt was a little suspect because he was sleeping on the cot and apparently there was a metal part that when he got up being only 1.5 at that time he was wobbly and hit his head causing a nice little cut. I excused because things can happen and he'd just really learned how to walk but I didn't understand why they would have cots with metal exposed in that way. Nevertheless we continued moreso because he seemed happy there and we were saving compared to others in the area. The final incident was when he was bit by ants in the yard. No one called me, Ms Abby just sent an email. When I got home and my MIL who picks him up from school asked me if they'd called and I said No, then checked my email I was furious. They'd called several other times when his temperature was slightly elevated even after taking him to a doctor and letting them know there was no cause for concern (mild congestion) but not this! My son's arms were filled with bite marks and I immediately called Ms Abby but it was about 630 that day. She didn't answer or call back. I was traveling the next day (Friday) and she said she called back but I didn't see a missed call or receive a vmail. We didn't discuss until Monday when I got back in town. She was very nonchalant about it and apologized but couldn't assure me of anything. She said the teachers didn't know there was an ant pile in the yard, which told me they aren't really paying attention to the kids like they should outside nor were they properly safeguarding the yard. She said they'd removed the ant pile but it should have never happened. I also informed her of a possum I saw one day a few weeks before and asked if she knew that they were around her property and she looked really surprised. My son was speech delayed at that time and Ms Abby and one of the teachers who was assisting outside kept pointing out that he didn't even cry he just came to them with his arms out showing them the ants crawling on him. Imagining that still haunts me) In that moment, there were too many things she didn't know and I realized this was an unsafe place for my son and we had to find another school for him. It would have been a nice gesture to return the remaining tuition we'd paid but she and her partner (who is her dad) refused to give me the money back for the remaining weeks that we'd paid for that month. That told me they took no responsibility for their neglect. I was supposed to forgive and forget. If there was someone else who could watch my son his last day would have been the day of the incident. We were able to get him moved a week and a half later. I would have never forgiven myself if anything else happened to him. It could be a 4 or 5 star review had I been lucky enough to not have my kid have this experience but when they are met with challenging situations to navigate, I was able to see their true colors. Being reactive versus proactive is just not acceptable when dealing with children. I couldn't afford to risk any other incidents at my son's expense. We sent him to the more expensive Montessori and he has been thriving there. I guess you get what you pay for.

We have had the pleasure of being in 3 different classes, each with caring and attentive teachers. Our initial transition was difficult because she would not take a bottle at first. In Infant 1 class, Ms. Eudora was patient, creative and persistent until our daughter was a bottle drinking champ. In Infant 2, Ms. Cody and the team provided so many exciting activities and were so excited to share updates as our daughter's language, social, fine motor and gross motor skills progressed. In the Infant 3 class, we have seen her vocabulary and motor skills grow even more. Ms. Yaleni, Ms. Ana and Ms. Evelyn make sure all her needs are met and she is academically stimulated. We have always felt our daughter is safe and cared for as an individual and as a growing learner while at Mariner. The building is new and is kept clean and decorated for various seasons and holidays. The play area is expanding thanks to the school's acquisition of an adjacent lot. Parents are kept updated through a weekly email newsletter and daily through the ProCare app. Teachers update the app for naps, diaper changes and meals as well as posting pictures of activities once or twice a day. This Facility was our favorite by far when we did tours in the area - modern building / facilities, great technology to stay connected and monitor your kids, and very friendly and competent staff. This is what daycare should be like in today's age! Parking can be a bit of a pain at times as pickup / drop-off for most parents are around the samtimes and the parking spaces are not the biggest. There's also a high school across the street that causes some traffic disruption but just avoid those times. They give you two apps, one that the teachers use to track meals / diaper changes, and one that you can see your kid at all times. There's a fairly structured curriculum for the kids, though usually I just see them running around having fun. As an educator, I've heard from many kinder teachers at our school that students coming from OFA are prepared and beyond. The facilities are always clean and up to par. It feels nicer than any other school in the area. The directors are always at the front available to chat if needed. Last and most importantly, the teachers are fabulous. They're friendly and love our babies. I appreciate that the administration cares about teacher retention but also doesn't continue to keep teachers If they don't meet the expectations of OFA. I have peace of mind knowing our baby is good hands. I always recommend to my friends and neighbors looking for high quality school for little ones.
