OMG! Yes! Ate there twice in one day! B-fast and dinner and loved every single bite! Service was seriously amazing. Ate at the bar for dinner and the music was just right! Great place!
came here with my best friend for their happy hour! we got the onion dip and the flatbread of the day was steak with mozzarella, asparagus & cherry tomatoes. they had great cocktail and mocktail options. the ambiance was lovely and there was a big patio too. most notably, the service was absolutely phenomenal! our server samara was so kind, attentive, and really made our evening so wonderful!!! highly recommend and can't wait to come back!!!
This place was a hit! I went for happy hour and stayed for restaurant week menu. Cocktail I had was called pour decisions and it was so good I had two! Starting with the onion dip which was light and delicious served with fresh toast points. Side salad next which was fresh and well done. Then came the shrimp and grits which was honestly better than some I have had in Louisiana! The sauce was absolutely delicious well balanced with spice. I'm honestly still thinking about how good the meal was. Dessert was their famous carrot cake and it did not disappoint! I can't wait to go back and enjoy this place again soon.
I came here with my family for my sister's soccer tournament. We didn't plan it but got there in time to get some appetizers for happy hour (3:00-6:00pm)! I review restaurants with my OAT method: O= Overall experience - We were immediately greeted by the owner, who was welcoming and walked us right to our table. He even came by during our meal to ask how it was. As a customer, this goes a long way! I challenged myself to try new things I wouldn't normally go for and was greatly awarded. This restaurant's blend of different foods was art. A= Appearance - It was a pretty restaurant with good mood lighting. They dimmed the lights around 6pm and had nice background music playing. T= Taste - For the appetizer, we got the chef slider of the week which was a buffalo blue cheese slider. YUM!! Not a big blue cheese fan, but these sliders convinced me otherwise! We also got the corn bread. Let me preface with, I do not really enjoy cornbread (mainly because I grew up having boxed cornbread and always thought it was dry), however, this cornbread was not the case! It was freshly homemade with a crystalized sugar topping. I love when I receive a great food recommendation from a waiter! He recommend I get the chef special salmon because it was freshly caught and topped with delicious chutney and pureed potatoes. I have had a lot of salmon over the years with different toppings and this one was very unique! I liked how it tasted like nothing I have ever eaten before. To wrap up the evening we had beignets for dessert!
We made a last-minute reservation here on a Saturday night and were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is beautiful both inside and out, but we chose to sit on the patio to enjoy the nice weather. Our server was kind and attentive. The only downside of the evening was that the food took a bit longer to arrive. We started with the Southern Biscuit Sliders, absolutely delicious! They were packed with flavor, and we wished the order came with four instead of two. For my entrée, I had the Jambalaya Pasta, which was full of protein and had just the right amount of spice. Enough of a kick without being overpowering. I really enjoyed it. My husband ordered Mr. B's Fried Chicken and thought it was excellent. The chicken was cooked perfectly with great flavor. He wasn't the biggest fan of the greens that came on the side, but that was more of a personal preference.
We went to The Brass Onion at Prairiefire for Sunday brunch and everything hit the spot. The portions are huge. The buttermilk pancakes were fluffy, bigger than the plate, and came with fresh blueberries. The biscuits and gravy were rich and savory. The fried chicken was perfectly crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside with just the right amount of seasoning. Our table split two carafes of mimosas and they kept the brunch fun and easy. Service was attentive and friendly even though the place was busy. This is comfort food with style. If you want a hearty brunch in Overland Park, The Brass Onion delivers. Met a group of old friends from high school here for lunch right after the holidays. We had reservations so we were seated immediately. Our waiter Trey was amazing. I enjoyed my food. I ordered the Blackened Salmon sandwich with fries. I loved my drink, which was the Mulled spiced sangria. You could get it hot or cold. I tried it cold and loved it. I'm pretty sure it would be just as wonderful hot. There were mixed reactions to the other dishes that were ordered. Those that ordered the fried chicken meal really enjoyed it. They also said the shrimp and grits were good. One friend didn't care for her salmon entrée. She said it lacked seasoning. My other friend didn't care for the sauce on jambalaya pasta. She said it reminded her of pizza sauce. Overall, we had s good experience and would love to try their brunch in the future.
Excellent service, food, and atmosphere. This is one of our favorite places to eat. The entire menu is full of delicious meals. Bring your appetite because the portions are very ample. Thank you Brass Onion for an amazing experience.....we can't wait to come back!
A friend recommended the chicken at the The Brass Onion, so we had to give it a try. First, the place is very big and the staff is very attentive. I got the 3 piece chicken meal. It comes with mashed potatoes and gravy and collard greens. The chicken was excellent. Very moist with a real good outside coating. So, by now you are probably looking at my food picture and saying those are the weirdest mashed potatoes and collard greens you have ever seen. There is a very good reason for that, I am not a fan of mashed potatoes or collard greens. However, I could easily swap out different sides. So, I went with french fries and roasted vegetables. These were both outstanding. The fries were nice and crispy and the roasted vegetables were nicely cooked with good seasoning. Some of the best sides to go with the best chicken I can remember having. Also, it came with a really moist piece of cornbread and butter. Again, really good stuff. There was a lot of food on the plate. I chose to finish the fries and vegetables, since they do not reheat as well and brought home a piece of chicken. We also got a burger and fires. Again, nicely cooked. Good sized burger and go ratio of burger to bun size.
My boss took us out to lunch here today. The service was great and the food delicious. The place was pretty empty for it being lunch time. My coworker said it's usually busy on the weekends. The restaurant is beautiful. I love how it's decorated. I had the salmon salad and it was amazing. My coworkers said the burgers were all dry. The fried chicken was great according to my coworkers.
This was my first visit to the Brass Onion and I'll definitely return! Our server, Katie was AWESOME! Very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the menu. She made excellent recommendations and she also took care of our large group perfectly, especially once the place became packed with diners! They have a nice sized bourbon list here, as well as some interesting cocktails. When we went, it was on Fat Tuesday and they had a special menu with drinks. They have lots of amazing appetizers... their NOLA BBQ Shrimp was a hit with everyone at the table! Their gumbo was made with a great rue and the ingredients were very tasty! I tried their red fish etouffee and it was spot on! I've had this dish in NOLA many times and for a place in KS, they did a great job making it! Their fried chicken was excellent and the flavor of the batter was so good! Reminded me of an old chain where I grew up called The Golden Skillet... really tasty! Save room for dessert, they make beignets better than Café DuMonde! Highly recommend a trip here!

Nice restaurant, but the food didn't impress me. I would still go back because my partner enjoyed his food a lot. Perhaps I need to try some other things on the menu. Wouldn't recommend the chef's seafood pasta. The onion straws tasted more like a topping than an appetizer. Our server was wonderful though. I would give it another chance. read more

Lovely spot for a first date Reservations required on a Friday night for sure. When a place is packed you know it's good. Vibe was open concept, lovely bar and outdoor space with fire pit. Valet parking available. Food was delicious. I had the salmon salad and a mocktail. My date had salmon as well. read more
My first time being here for brunch and out of all Sunday's it was super-bowl Sunday lol. I was definitely impressed with the brunch menu. You definitely get your bank for your buck here. I had the steak and eggs with egg whites and a piece of cornbread 10/10, price was $23. The mimosas are $5 during brunch, choices of juice cranberry, pineapple, and grapefruit juice. I tried the cranberry flavor, I never seen cranberry or grapefruit as an option for mimosas so that was a plus for me. Their drink menu for brunch is really good it's something for everyone. My server was very attentive to me, I enjoyed my time here. I'll definitely be back to try other options on the brunch menu. I highly recommend giving this place a try. read more
The Brass Onion has been on my list to try for a while, so my husband and I decided to have a date night there. I made reservations since it was Restaurant Week and I knew they would be busy. A little disappointed that we still had to wait 20 minutes even with reservations. The interior is cute, I loved the wood paneling and fixtures. There's bar seating. And I noticed families with (older) kids dining. Once we were seated, the service was quick and our server was super nice. I had the shrimp and grits and it wasn't anything to rave about. My husband got the fried chicken and it was so good- crispy and juicy! The cornbread that came with both was a little dry. Not sure if we will be back, maybe for brunch? read more
After an afternoon at Prairie Fire, we went to the Brass Onion for lunch. They were only serving the brunch menu, so we had to pivot. I had the two piece fried chicken with potatoes, cornbread, and collards. The gravy was excellent, collards were incredible, and chicken was alright. It was nicely brined but not the best fried chicken I've ever had. My partner had the gumbo and a side of grits. Both were very tasty and he finished the bowls. Our nephew had the kids mini burgers and fries. For a kids meal, it was very substantial, and he appreciated the fry basket look. We split a decadent cinnamon roll. All in all, a delicious Southern meal. read more
We've passed by the Brass Onion at Prairie Fire, Overland Park, Kansas on numerous occasions but never sat down for dinner at this fine establishment until today. We were met by Miss Lizzy and she sat us in a booth away from the front door. She presented the menus and the specials and made several delicious recommendations . The ambience was quite because we arrived before 5pm. By the time we left, the place was busy with a hungry clientele. We ordered the dueling hummus with grilled veggies for an appetizer. This dish did not disappoint, one side was the usual chickpeas while the other side was made from black eyed peas. What a treat. Compliments to the chef's creativity. On to the main dishes, I ordered the Shrimp and grits and it was tasty, the gravy juice and delicious cornbread made this meal a star with nice jumbo size shrimps. My lovely wife had the crab cakes and they were cooked to perfection with an onions base veggies and a delicious side of Cajun remoulade, Champaign vinaigrette. Amazing. Really enjoyed it! Great atmosphere, great service, really enjoyed the food. I had the jambalaya pasta. Had a nice cajun kick that I enjoyed. Had both the French Bottoms Old Fashioned and the Black Irish Old Fashioned. Not clear to me why one is served with one large ice cube (better way to go) and the other with small ice cubes but the flavor of both was great (the French Bottoms had the large ice cube if you care). My dad raved about the burnt end appetizer, saying it was as good as it gets. My parents can be chatty and our server Riley was very kind to humor them and was very helpful. An upscale bistro in a unique part of Overland Park. We went for happy hour and the restaurant was nearly empty, but it still took about a half hour to be waited on. When the waitress did come to take our order, she wasn't mean, but a little bit impersonal. I have heard good things about this place so that may have been flukey, but members of our group mentioned that it often takes a while for service when they are busy. In terms of the food, they serve elevated versions of southern comforts classics - and they are delicious. I ordered the Low Country Mac and Cheese and loved it. The noodles were perfectly cooked, the sauce was flavorful and creamy, and there were just the right amount of accompaniments with lots of shrimp. The others enjoyed their meals too and the appetizers for happy hour were fun and easy to share. The meals were a little bit expensive, but happy hour made the items from that menu very reasonable. read more

Met with my Bookclub for bunch and it was soo good the staff checked on us as it was a party of 8. We love the openness and airy feeling of the restaurant. I had the eggs Benedict with a salad with champagne dressing and home style potatoes.. I did ask for extra hollandaise sauce omg that stuff is to die for! Lol every one enjoyed their meal! read more
My friends and I stopped here for their happy hour and shared a few dishes. We all liked the smoked wings and onion dip. The meatballs were just ok, nothing exciting about them. The meat in the sliders reminded me of meat from stew. The fried onions tasted like they were leftover from a few days ago. I didn't order a drink but my friends seemed to like the drinks they tried. It's a little more pricy, but you get your money worth. Their signature cocktails are delicious and you can tell food is made fresh to order. If you are vegan, you can modify salads and add avocado to it. Service was slow, but it looked understaffed compared to the tables. Clean place and overall wonderful experience for a great date night! read more

We stop in here for dinner on a Tuesday night and had no idea it was Mardi Gra Fat Tuesday night. They also happens to have live music that night and a special New Orlean Southern Cajun menu. I ordered their grits and shrimp special. While my friend had their traditional chicken dinner. Price wise it was kind of pricy. Each entree was at least $20 and above. The portion size was small and that was all you get. No bread or house salad or and sides. We also shared a flourless chocolate torte. It was rich and chocolatey. Our waitress was attentive and the restaurant was nice clean and upscale in atmosphere. They seem to attract more of the older clientele. I was not too impressed with the food menu. read more
Tried this place for KC restaurant week. Their restaurant week menu was great. Our server was wonderful-- attentive and friendly. I ordered the flatbread which was pretty plain. I wouldn't recommend it. The gumbo was delicious. The fried chicken would've been 5 stars if it weren't sooooo salty. We came here from brunch. I made the reservation and to my surprise, we really didn't need one. They weren't busy at all. We were seated and out waitstaff, Jessica, came right over. She took our drink orders. We ordered the Honey Cornbread to start. It was good but a little too sweet for me. You could tell they added more sugar to the cornbread. With the honey on top, it just made for a very sweet bread. For our meals, I ordered the Low Country Biscuits and Gravy, the newly 14 year old had the Brass Onion Burger sans Lettuce and tomato, the little one had Mac+Cheese, and hubs had the Prairiefire Breakfast with a side of pancakes. Everything tasted great! Even the kids Mac+Cheese was good. The cheese was nice and creamy and seasoned. My meal was great. I only ate the bacon and half of a Biscuit but I'll be eating the rest later as it came home with me. The newly 14 year old really liked his burger and hubs was already talking about "the next time we come" What he will order. The baby even ate without fuss. We will definitely be back. Would this place be reasonably quiet on a Saturday for lunch?
I haven't been there during lunch. You can call for reservations. We went to dinner on a Saturday evening and the crowd was light. Very nice atmosphere.
