    Shrimp and grits

This place was a hit! I went for happy hour and stayed for restaurant week menu. Cocktail I had was called pour decisions and it was so good I had two! Starting with the onion dip which was light and delicious served with fresh toast points. Side salad next which was fresh and well done. Then came the shrimp and grits which was honestly better than some I have had in Louisiana! The sauce was absolutely delicious well balanced with spice. I'm honestly still thinking about how good the meal was. Dessert was their famous carrot cake and it did not disappoint! I can't wait to go back and enjoy this place again soon.

I came here with my family for my sister's soccer tournament. We didn't plan it but got there in time to get some appetizers for happy hour (3:00-6:00pm)! I review restaurants with my OAT method: O= Overall experience - We were immediately greeted by the owner, who was welcoming and walked us right to our table. He even came by during our meal to ask how it was. As a customer, this goes a long way! I challenged myself to try new things I wouldn't normally go for and was greatly awarded. This restaurant's blend of different foods was art. A= Appearance - It was a pretty restaurant with good mood lighting. They dimmed the lights around 6pm and had nice background music playing. T= Taste - For the appetizer, we got the chef slider of the week which was a buffalo blue cheese slider. YUM!! Not a big blue cheese fan, but these sliders convinced me otherwise! We also got the corn bread. Let me preface with, I do not really enjoy cornbread (mainly because I grew up having boxed cornbread and always thought it was dry), however, this cornbread was not the case! It was freshly homemade with a crystalized sugar topping. I love when I receive a great food recommendation from a waiter! He recommend I get the chef special salmon because it was freshly caught and topped with delicious chutney and pureed potatoes. I have had a lot of salmon over the years with different toppings and this one was very unique! I liked how it tasted like nothing I have ever eaten before. To wrap up the evening we had beignets for dessert!

We made a last-minute reservation here on a Saturday night and were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is beautiful both inside and out, but we chose to sit on the patio to enjoy the nice weather. Our server was kind and attentive. The only downside of the evening was that the food took a bit longer to arrive. We started with the Southern Biscuit Sliders, absolutely delicious! They were packed with flavor, and we wished the order came with four instead of two. For my entrée, I had the Jambalaya Pasta, which was full of protein and had just the right amount of spice. Enough of a kick without being overpowering. I really enjoyed it. My husband ordered Mr. B's Fried Chicken and thought it was excellent. The chicken was cooked perfectly with great flavor. He wasn't the biggest fan of the greens that came on the side, but that was more of a personal preference.

We went to The Brass Onion at Prairiefire for Sunday brunch and everything hit the spot. The portions are huge. The buttermilk pancakes were fluffy, bigger than the plate, and came with fresh blueberries. The biscuits and gravy were rich and savory. The fried chicken was perfectly crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside with just the right amount of seasoning. Our table split two carafes of mimosas and they kept the brunch fun and easy. Service was attentive and friendly even though the place was busy. This is comfort food with style. If you want a hearty brunch in Overland Park, The Brass Onion delivers. Come hungry and plan to leave full. Free beniegts on your birthday!

This place has an upscale vibe to it and the food is very yummy! We started out with the brass onion dip & it was very creamy and delicious. I would go back just for the steak salad, it was so good with the crispy chickpeas and garlic dressing. Perfect spot for a date night in Prairie Fire.

Met a group of old friends from high school here for lunch right after the holidays. We had reservations so we were seated immediately. Our waiter Trey was amazing. I enjoyed my food. I ordered the Blackened Salmon sandwich with fries. I loved my drink, which was the Mulled spiced sangria. You could get it hot or cold. I tried it cold and loved it. I'm pretty sure it would be just as wonderful hot. There were mixed reactions to the other dishes that were ordered. Those that ordered the fried chicken meal really enjoyed it. They also said the shrimp and grits were good. One friend didn't care for her salmon entrée. She said it lacked seasoning. My other friend didn't care for the sauce on jambalaya pasta. She said it reminded her of pizza sauce. Overall, we had s good experience and would love to try their brunch in the future.

Excellent service, food, and atmosphere. This is one of our favorite places to eat. The entire menu is full of delicious meals. Bring your appetite because the portions are very ample. Thank you Brass Onion for an amazing experience.....we can't wait to come back!

A friend recommended the chicken at the The Brass Onion, so we had to give it a try. First, the place is very big and the staff is very attentive. I got the 3 piece chicken meal. It comes with mashed potatoes and gravy and collard greens. The chicken was excellent. Very moist with a real good outside coating. So, by now you are probably looking at my food picture and saying those are the weirdest mashed potatoes and collard greens you have ever seen. There is a very good reason for that, I am not a fan of mashed potatoes or collard greens. However, I could easily swap out different sides. So, I went with french fries and roasted vegetables. These were both outstanding. The fries were nice and crispy and the roasted vegetables were nicely cooked with good seasoning. Some of the best sides to go with the best chicken I can remember having. Also, it came with a really moist piece of cornbread and butter. Again, really good stuff. There was a lot of food on the plate. I chose to finish the fries and vegetables, since they do not reheat as well and brought home a piece of chicken. We also got a burger and fires. Again, nicely cooked. Good sized burger and go ratio of burger to bun size.

My boss took us out to lunch here today. The service was great and the food delicious. The place was pretty empty for it being lunch time. My coworker said it's usually busy on the weekends. The restaurant is beautiful. I love how it's decorated. I had the salmon salad and it was amazing. My coworkers said the burgers were all dry. The fried chicken was great according to my coworkers.

This was my first visit to the Brass Onion and I'll definitely return! Our server, Katie was AWESOME! Very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the menu. She made excellent recommendations and she also took care of our large group perfectly, especially once the place became packed with diners! They have a nice sized bourbon list here, as well as some interesting cocktails. When we went, it was on Fat Tuesday and they had a special menu with drinks. They have lots of amazing appetizers... their NOLA BBQ Shrimp was a hit with everyone at the table! Their gumbo was made with a great rue and the ingredients were very tasty! I tried their red fish etouffee and it was spot on! I've had this dish in NOLA many times and for a place in KS, they did a great job making it! Their fried chicken was excellent and the flavor of the batter was so good! Reminded me of an old chain where I grew up called The Golden Skillet... really tasty! Save room for dessert, they make beignets better than Café DuMonde! Highly recommend a trip here!

Lovely spot for a first date Reservations required on a Friday night for sure. When a place is packed you know it's good. Vibe was open concept, lovely bar and outdoor space with fire pit. Valet parking available. Food was delicious. I had the salmon salad and a mocktail. My date had salmon as well.

The Brass Onion has been on my list to try for a while, so my husband and I decided to have a date night there. I made reservations since it was Restaurant Week and I knew they would be busy. A little disappointed that we still had to wait 20 minutes even with reservations. The interior is cute, I loved the wood paneling and fixtures. There's bar seating. And I noticed families with (older) kids dining. Once we were seated, the service was quick and our server was super nice. I had the shrimp and grits and it wasn't anything to rave about. My husband got the fried chicken and it was so good- crispy and juicy! The cornbread that came with both was a little dry. Not sure if we will be back, maybe for brunch?

I haven't been there during lunch. You can call for reservations. We went to dinner on a Saturday evening and the crowd was light. Very nice atmosphere.

I am still genuinely befuddled at this Friday night dinner experience…read more I came in for a celebratory Hurricane since I'd heard these were great (and we loved their cocktails the last time) and a bite. The place was pretty empty which was unusual; the last time we came in I think was in December and it was slammed! It turns out they aren't serving alcohol right now (apparently an ownership change? I didn't get the full scoop) so that was the first let-down. So fine - I'll just have a bowl of the gumbo. For $29?! And some biscuits. The gumbo comes out in a cracked bowl with a cracked plate underneath and the 3 little crawfish on top are refrigerator cold. Granted, the actual gumbo was pretty solid with the right amount of heft and spice and depth, but even then the rice had some hard pieces in it like it was old. The biscuits aren't anything to write home about and the butter is just meh. I wouldn't spend my carbs there. On top of all that, the waitress literally couldn't be bothered that I existed. I had to pry to get a drink menu (which is when I found out they weren't serving any), I couldn't get any eye contact from her or any kind of friendliness, she asked me if I wanted them to "heat it up" when I told her about the crawfish, and then brought my bill when I hadn't even finished dinner without bothering to ask if I wanted any dessert. And on top of that, there was no mention at all about the dinner issues or any apology whatsoever. I don't need or want a meal comped but for over $40 for a bowl of gumbo and some biscuits (+ tax, tip, etc) I at least expect some acknowledgement or "hey, here's something nice we can do for you". We really enjoyed the last time we were here and this was a genuinely jarring experience compared to that. The place looks pretty rough right now - maybe this is one of those places that has the right vibe in the dark, but nothing felt right about it today, and I'm afraid I can't (won't) recommend it again.

For dinner we shared a wedge salad, their mashed potatoes, asparagus (a must!), and their tomahawk steak! Instead of doing three separate steaks we did the one and it was a perfect size for all of us to share! The steak was tender and well seasoned, mashed potatoes creamy, and the asparagus was prepared in a way we hadn't had before - highly recommend! We also had their dessert lemon meringue pie and coconut cream pie! Really really good! Wine options: amazing! Bourbon options: classy! We couldn't give it five stars for two main reason: 1. We made a reservation for 7pm, arrived and check in at 6:50 and still had to wait just over 30 minutes to be seated. We learned that walk-ins had been seated ahead of us so we needed to wait for some tables to leave before we could be seated. This was a bit surprising. We understand waiting a few minutes, but 30 min is not okay. 2. The sweet server assisting us for dinner was in training and we learned from her "trainer" that she wouldn't be getting any of the tips from our dinner. Additionally, the "trainer" came over around 830 to tell us that although it was only three of us that gratuity is automatically included. Very odd that we were told these things during our meal. The server being trained should absolutely get a portion of the tips - we hope restaurant management reconsiders their policy on this especially since we hardly saw her "trainer". We normally tip over the 20% but because the trainer didn't get any of our tips, we opted to not increase the tip that was automatically charged to us. All in all really classy restaurant and food was delicious! We'll be back for sure!
