We have been trying to eat here for a while upon a recommendation of how great their Sunset Grill salad was. I couldn't wait to try it. We tried coming Friday night and they were packed. We are not drinkers so we decided to return on a Saturday at 5pm. It wasn't too busy. We were seated quickly. Our server Maeve was very attentive and nice. I liked that the salad was chopped and everything was about the same size. Except when I ran into a big piece of lettuce core. I felt the salad was ok. I went to meet with my financial advisor and she suggested this place. I figured just another dull, south OP chow hall. But I was wrong... I was greeted at the host's stand by a nice young man who greeted me with enthusiasm, which is becoming a lost art. He took me to a table, asked me if I need anything before the waitress showed up , but I said I was good. Less than a minute later, she showed up. Throughout the meal, her service was great, and she also made small talk with me and the lady I was having dinner with. When the meal came, she made sure we had any extras we might need and then left us alone. After dinner, she cleared away the plates and gave us a dessert menu. The cake that we shared was delicious. We both had wedge salad with blackened chicken, which were really good. even the ambience of the place was really good. I've talked to a few friends who said that the owner does a great job of hiring people and the kids that I had contact with at the restaurant. We're all helpful, courteous and smiling. Nice local restaurant...been there for years. The food is good (large portions). The Southwest egg rolls are absolutely my favorite! They cater to a very local (and older) crowd with some good live music on weekends. The service can be hit and miss, but usually good. Quick and convenient restaurant with service that's always more impressive than the food. They have a pretty good variety of sandwiches, salad, and other classic options with some islandy and Tex Mex flavors scattered throughout the menu. I got a half sandwich and salad that tasted pretty good, but the sandwich was about four bites and was more expensive than one would expect for a meal like that. The theme inside does provide a light tropical feel, but isn't that notable. All around solid restaurant that you can count on in a pinch, but not one I'd seek out to visit. read more

We took a large group of 9 for a birthday celebration on a Friday night. We did have reservations. The manager was so nice in getting us seated when some diners were lingering after their meals. The food is really great with a diverse menu. They are famous for their chopped salad. They have plenty of other sandwiches, burgers, Mexican and seafood to try. The Key Lime pie is great for dessert. They have a solid kids menu. Beau loves the spaghetti although he wore a fair amount of it in his hair and on his clothes. Their bar is busy on the weekends. However we both work on the weekend normally but ended up having Saturday off and made a quick decision to come check this place out. It's so cute inside!!!!! For it being a Saturday at 1030 am - you'd think it'd be packed but felt like this is a hidden gem that nobody knows about. Prices were great for breakfast with a good selection and the portion was huge!!!! We both went for the meat lovers skillet with toast and ordered a side of pancakes to share just to try them out. I have to admit I've been a tad stand-offish about this place. Not sure why but we decided to try it Sunday morning. Man this place is great. Hostess was very funny and nice I ordered a sausage scramble with 2 eggs over easy on top and a side of biscuits and gravy. If you like cheese (I do) this scramble is for you. Sliced potatoes and sliced sausage covered in cheese. The gravy was very good not bland like most. Biscuit was solid. Very good value for the portions and very good service. Give a shot. Horrible food poisoning!!! If I could give negative stars I would. Yesterday was my first time dining here and my last. I met a friend for brunch and it started badly with our server acting annoyed and extremely rushed. She didn't even greet our table. I ordered and I should have sent my food back as it was lukewarm but didn't want to hassle staff as I've waited tables and know this is annoying. I proceed to eat and six hours later I am doubled over with excruciating belly pain, nausea, diarrhea, and a bad headache. Sunset Grill has great daily specials and you can't beat Happy Hour. Monday - Thursday 3:00- 6:00!! 1/2 price on most appetizers $4 original Margaritas & House Wine. $ 2.50 draft beers & Wells!!! The Tijuana Wraps and Jalapeño Spinach Dip is our absolute favorite appetizers!! You must try one or both of them!! Main dish we really like the Chop Chop Salad! I believe it is one of their signature dishes. My daughter and I came just for some appetizers after school. Great little spot, very casual. Has a full bar located on the other side of the restaurant with TV's. Most weekends they have live bands playing with a great little outside patio area. I have never seen this place before. Driving around trying to get to the overly packed Tanner's on the opposite corner I found this place. The Sunset Grill... I was sure I had seen one of these before or been to one. Looking back through my notes... amazingly I have been to a Sunset Grille and a Sunset Diner. Even several places that were Sunrise something or other... but no this is the one and only Sunset Grill that I have been to. I like the place. It was one of those restaurants that is just plain comfortable. The food was good... I had a steak... and it was very delicious. I didn't have to buy this time (Pro Tip: Take people that owe you to restaurants with you!) so I don't really remember if it was on special or not. The steak was cooked to perfection... and I am a Med Rare guy so the tough one to get right. The sides were also delicious. The wait staff was friendly. And here is what went wrong: Greetings... or a sign that says seat yourself... or something. I understand that there are a myriad of ways to make an old fashioned cocktail... one way NOT to make them is to take a glass of fruit muddle it pour in a shot of simple syrup and a shot of rye with crushed ice... it came out being some sort of sweetened rye and orange/cherry Slurpee. Also If the friends and family are going to be attending the place you work and you want to sit and hang with them... perhaps... don't let their kids run all over the place... and don't have tables that you are to be waiting on. I am sure that this is why the person buying didn't get offered any kind of desert and my Caesar salad (comes with the dinner) didn't show up at all. It was very fun to watch the waitress talk at us in question form... like "Are you all doing ok?" while walking away and not listening to the answers to the negative. This was a very bizarre visit and I am not sure what was going on. It was like the boss had left for the first time and everyone was new. Anyway... I was reluctant to try this place. I thought the diverse menu meant identity crisis but our visit was excellent. We were here for breakfast during winter. The interior was full (FULL!) of tropical plants .... I have to guess they're normally on the patio but were inside for the winter. I sampled the pancakes and a skillet. The pancakes were on the thin side (fine by me!) and reminded me of my grandma. The skillet base of thick potato slices were perfectly prepared - crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
