In Kansas City, known as the "Cow Capital," this is said to be one of the best steakhouses. The food was indeed excellent, and it's not far from the Nelson-Atkins Museum--a very satisfying meal after a day of watching! Let's Break Bread: Although the table bread wasn't free, paying $10 for it was definitely worth it. The bread sizzles on the hot plate, brushed with a thin layer of honey, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, a perfect combination of heat, sweetness, fluffiness, and aroma. The dressing was local honey rosemary butter, with a hint of rosemary fragrance and primarily a rich, buttery flavor. After starving for half a day at the museum, this was absolutely perfect. Berry Rose: A very creative salad. Blackberries and blackcurrants offered a refreshing sweetness, sourness, and fruity aroma, while the olive oil with mint and lime was cool and bright. The roasted pistachio crumbs provided a crunchy texture and nutty aroma. The goat cheese was just a light touch, very pleasant. Prime Black Angus Ribeye: My colleague chose the medium well. Medium would have been more suitable for me, but even so, the meat wasn't tough or dry, indicating the steak's quality and the cooking time were excellent. However, the Fresh Herb Chimichurri was basically just olive oil flavor; it lacked the expected lemon acidity and chili flake aroma, let alone any sense of removing the greasiness. Moroccan Lamb: Also in medium well, the lamb chops had more fat, resulting in more tender meat, more juice, and absolutely no gamey taste. The classic grenadine syrup, with added lemon, wasn't overly sweet or stale, but rather had a bright sweet and sour flavor. The accompanying "Potato Lyonnaise" tasted like just ordinary fried small potatoes. Fundue Whipped Yukons: Literally black-truffle-flavored mashed potatoes with a little chèvre, but it wasn't very noticeable. Mashed potatoes are never bad, but that was about it. Wild Mushrooms au poivre: The warm spicy essence of black pepper, the savory umami flavor of mushrooms, and the creamy aroma of butter. It instantly transported me to Yunnan, China, for the dish tasted like their baoshao包燒 (wrap-and-grill) fungus. Get Swifty: The most amazing cocktail I've had this year! The clash of cucumber, mint, and lemon flavors was incredibly refreshing, perfect for a summer day exceeding 30 degrees Celsius. My friend said the miniature image looked like a kiwi, so cute! Smoking Hill: A Rittenhouse Rye base with a very strong smoky flavor, although it somewhat overshadows the freshness of the blackcurrant and mint, I still personally love it. This was our first time visiting, and we came with a large group. Unfortunately, we arrived later than expected due to a tornado warning and extremely heavy traffic. We anticipated being about 15-30 minutes late because of the circumstances. From the moment we arrived, we felt rushed. Our server did not seem understanding of the situation and was not very accommodating. When we asked questions about the menu, her responses were short and dismissive. She also frequently gestured with her hands very close to my face while speaking, which felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. She was not very personal. I would avoid this restaurant. Nothing about it was good. They open at 3:30. I walked in & was the first to sit at the bar. There was one bartender who was engaged in conversation with who appeared to be a wine vendor. So I waited, and waited, and waited. Finally I interrupted her and asked if there was another bartender available who could make me a drink. He broke away & fixed me one. The food was not good. Crab Rangoon was burned and the Oysters Stockofeller as they call them were raw. We expected them to be cooked. We each ordered the wagyu burger which just okay. Time for an update. Stock Hill remains in my regular rotation for nice steak dinners out in KC. We most recently dined her for our anniversary back in September and it was even better than past experiences. I stand by my past reviews but this last time really stood out. I think they do steak better than anyone in KC or at least on par with other greats. Pair that with some of the best old fashioneds in the city and amazing bread and sides? You've got a 5 star spot. Yes it's expensive, but it feels expensive from the service, to the ambiance, to the food, so I tend to think it's worth it here. Definitely a five star date night spot in KC. read more

The service is top notch, the drinks are strong and taste great, and the food is always incredible and FRESH. The lobster bones are always a go to for appetizers, we also tried the crab cake which was amazing the sauce they put it in is so good. The shrimp cocktail is what you would expect, nothing crazy but the shrimp were huge. Best drinks were the KC Steakhouse Punch and the Wolf on Main Street. Are you looking for a transcendent dining experience? Seriously, this is the place. My husband and I were in KC for a wedding and wanted a steak dinner, we landed here and couldn't have been more satisfied. Our server, Gary, was warm, knowledgeable, and a seasoned pro. The rest of the staff were equally as kind and quick. Every dish that was brought out was wonderfully balanced. The 'lobster bones' appetizer and the 'fragola tart' will stay burned into my brain for a very long time. The steak? Exceptional. Wonderful cut and marbling, well cooked, and the flavor was delicious. I'm sad we don't have another night to spend at this restaurant. This is officially our new favorite restaurant. I used to think I'd eaten at all the best steak places in KC--turns out, I was dead wrong. This is the spot to order steak, no contest. We went all in on the Wagyu experience, and let me tell you, it was like steak had been kissed by angels. The sides didn't just tag along either. The ricotta gnocchi was so cheesy and indulgent, I considered asking for extra to-go. And the lobster risotto? Writing about it now, my mouth started watering all over again. The place is cozy and quiet, with a gorgeous bar up front that basically begs for a post-dinner nightcap. Our server was like a steak whisperer--knowledgeable and on point. The Wagu was excellent however the service was NOT. We made reservations weeks ago and I was really excited about the dinner we had planned at Stock Hill after listening to rave reviews from everyone on the radio who were having a discussion about KC steak houses. My siblings and their spouses came in town for the Memorial Day weekend and we wanted to have a special meal celebrating our parents, who we've lost over the last 15 months. My brother called and reserved the "Boardroom, a private room with a view". This was not a room with 4 walls and a door nor was it private at best it was semi private. It is located on the second floor right outside the bathroom so we had people walking back and forth the entire evening. The "fourth wall" was a wall of curtains which they never closed. My sister-in-law contacted the Private Dining Coordinator and requested that our appetizers and a couple of bottle of wines be waiting for us when we arrived. She even followed up the day of to make sure everything would be on the table when we got there. We arrived 10 minutes early and acknowledged that we were early and didn't expect the apps or wine to be waiting since we were early. We did NOT expect to be waiting 40 minutes before we received the appetizers and wine. This was totally unacceptable and no one apologized for the wait. We had a party of 8 and 7 of the 8 had Wagu which was delicious and all of us would highly recommended. The Lobster Bisque however was a total failure. It was served luke warm and was not good. Several of us tasted it and said the same thing. We ordered more wine and again waited for 20 minutes to receive it. We finished our dinner and asked about dessert however after 20 minutes without a dessert menu or explanation of desserts available we decided to pass on dessert. Today I called and spoke to a manager about our experience and not once did he apologize for the poor service. Very disappointing. read more

At one time and point I even found myself at the bar ordering my own cocktail due to him being elsewhere and not coming to our table to ask if we need new drinks even after walking by us several times. Stock Hill is one of our KC favorites when it comes to fine dining. We were excited to try some different menu items than our last visit, and everything was delicious, but believe it or not their carrots appetizer is our favorite. The carrots are amazingly cooked and seasoned and the sauce pairs with it perfectly. You'll love the mac & cheese w/ pork belly too and the elote corn is on point. For my entree, I had the ricotta gnocchi. Outstanding flavor and I was fascinated by the sear on the gnocchi itself, something I hadn't experienced before. I frequent the plaza a lot. My old stomping grounds because I went to UMKC, but I never knew that Stock Hill Grill was here in this location. This is not an easy place to access because of how it's positioned, but when you walk in it's very impressive I honestly never knew it existed on this little corner. It's very classy, and has a chic and sexy atmosphere. I was celebrating my birthday I started with the shrimp cocktail and the shrimp were nice and firm, I would probably classify they as prawns. They were poached in lime bouillon, mezcal spiked cocktail sauce and guacamole, I could've done without the guacamole but I was HUNGRY! For our table we ordered the Filet Diane, which was an 8 oz fillet medallions with seasoned butter and flambed in cognac, peppercorn, garlic with cast iron potatoes. It sounds good on paper but looked very British when it came out. I ordered the Pan Roasted Halibut it was served on a bed of Chinese Cabbage and that's it. I had to order the mashed potatoes to go with it and I was still hungry but it was great flavors. My other friend ordered he pan seared salmon and you really cannot go wrong with that. I had a great experience here and nice to know of another place in town other than the Capitol grille that has fine dining in Kansas City. What's also great is that they have live jazz. Had an awesome experience at Stock Hill over the weekend. We were looking to have dinner at a steakhouse with not so casual vibes and we found this one on Opentable. We had a reservation for 5:15 but ended up being 30 minutes late, do to the traffic and they still sat us without any issue. Our server was great! She gave a very indepth explaination of everything on the menu to us, as well making some recommendations. To drink I ordered the tiramisu esspresso martini which I loved! The chocolate and orange flavor paired perfectly together. I ordered the half dozen oysters which again I loved, they were so fresh. The soup of the day was loaded potato so we had to get that as well. The soup was delicious and suprisingly not heavy at all. The wedge salad was also solid, you could tell the blue cheese chunks were just good quality. My least favorite of the meal was the steak Diane, it wasn't bad just not as good as the rest of the meal. Overall had a great time at Stock Hill! read more

The place was packed in a Friday night and we squeezed in at the bar. Not terribly hungry so had a charcuterie board whip was loaded. Great variety and good to nibble while enjoying a cocktail. The reviews are spot on. This is worthy of the three hour drive, even if we weren't here for a family event! The steaks are great, of course (and the rib eye is even better than the filet minion) but the lobster bisque was the real show stopper! So silky, and with a really generous serving of lobster. The oysters were fresh and sweet and the salad was crisp with a buttermilk blue cheese dressing that was light enough to complement rather than hide the heirloom tomatoes and butter lettuce. Don't skip the bread and citrus butter if you can make room - it is light without being fluffy. The cocktails are fun and frivolous and absolutely worth the investment. We were looking for a place to try wagyu in Kansas City and this was one of the top places that popped up! We overall had a great time--ambiance is great! We sat upstairs and there was live music below. As a starter we had the wagyu meatballs--5 item, and beet salad--2 (was good, but I got stuck eating it all because no one else liked it and it was a lot of beet). We were a group of 6 with a reservation for December 9, 2024. This was such a disappointing experience for the entire group in terms of the service we received. Our waiter offered little information and we saw him once after we ordered (besides delivering our bill). At least 4 of the group had substandard meals. Cold food, steak that was not very good, and soup that was salty. Exceptional in every aspect... the modern decor, and the intimate lighting were warm and inviting. Their service was prompt, accommodating, considerate and of the highest stature. To start off, we went with a group of 8 people for my buddy's birthday. Stock Hill greeted us and made sure to greet the birthday boy specifically. The food here was amazing. We all got a little bit of everything. The bread, appetizers, entrées and sides were all amazing. It's rare to have that many people get that amount of food and not have one person that has a complaint. Everyone loved everything we got. The cocktails... they deserved their own section in this. The attention to detail and the ingredients they use are leaps and bounds over most places in KC. The Rocking Chair especially was quite the experience. They assemble the drink with the pipe tobacco smoke and ice cube at the table. All of the drinks were amazing though.
