Wow! The service here is absolutely amazing! The lady behind the bar was friendly, fun, and incredibly fast--she made everyone feel welcome. I love the laid-back, classic dive bar atmosphere, and this place has it all. They have live music, pool tournaments, and a great crowd, making it a fun spot to hang out. If you're looking for a place with great service, good vibes, and entertainment, this is definitely worth checking out!

Stopped in on a Monday about 6pm. There wasn't much of an after work crowd. It did get busier as time went on. I preserved the hot stew and a cheeseburger. The burger was a hand pressed 8oz patty and was tasty. The star was the Hungarian stew which was made with chuck roast and had potatoes and carrots to the right proportion. I had the hot version and it did carry some heat but was not just an added hot sauce. The stew was a real winner! You must stop for the stew.

Best townie bar I've ever been to. Don't come here for a 5 star experience.... Come here to meet good people, have some good food and good drinks at a good price. We wondered in here one day and now it's our favorite spot to swing by for a shot and beer.

Been here several times always for the music. Fun place for all music lovers to hang out. Party, relax, eat, drink, play some pool and listen to great local bands. Sadly I have not tried any food but I heard the wings are good.

Came here for dinner trivia and karaoke! This is definitely a divey bar. They have pool tables and a ping pong table. Several tables and chairs for seating and although we were at one of the last tables we could hear the trivia just fine! Karaoke was fun and I like they have a system where you scan a QR code and put in your name with the opportunity to search their selection of songs AND see the lineup of singers. I got the big Steve Fatty melt, and it was super good! The bread was grilled to perfection. They had a smash burger and in between and it was a massive amount of food for a good price. Only a few parking spots at the front but I believe they have some in the back as well.

Mousetrap when you walk in instantly gives you that classic dive bar feel, bar, stage, dance floor, and a room with pool tables and darts. Really cheap pool! Only $0.50!!! While there we had the grilled tenderloin and fries. For bar food this was actually really good. The meat was seasoned very well and kept its juiciness even with it being so thin. The fries were cooked perfectly, crispy and had a fluffy center. Will be going back!

YES. Go here! Stop scrolling and take the chance on this place. This had a typical hole in the wall bar feeling, only better. There is a large bar and stage, and I believe they have tables on the other side. We sat up at the bar, and within seconds we were greeted by the bartender. He was friendly, peppy, and although he was busy taking care of the entire bar by himself, he was QUICK. On their menu, they have a "famous for" section. We ordered two things from that menu, the tenderloin and chili. I went rogue and ordered the wings, because I'm always looking for a good wing. Let's start with the tenderloin... it is HUGE. If I didn't want to try so many things, my fiance and I could've EASILY split it and had some leftover. It was delicious and had a ton of flavor. The breading on there was perfect. Next up, the chili. It said it was grandma's recipe, and Grammy knew how to make an amazing chili. I will say I would've preferred it to be a little hotter (temperature wise) than what it actually was. I ended up getting a Togo bowl because I knew it'd be better hot. Finally, the wings. If you are looking for some amazing chicken wings in indy- this is it. They were big wings, had a ton of meat on them, and a lot of flavor. I got mild and garlic butter sauce, and I also tried the blackberry bourbon on the side. All of the sauces were delicious with it!! They are one of the best wings I've ever had in Indy. I used to live less than 5 minutes from this place, and I'm so upset with myself that I had never gone until now. Please go and give it a chance! We will definitely be back!!

The ball spent more time off the table than it did on it :D This visit, I built my own gluten-free pizza with olive oil, garlic, basil, rosemary, arugula, prosciutto, and goat cheese. It was fresh, flavorful. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, and the patio made for a great place to spend the evening. It's one of those spots that's just as much about the experience as it is the food, which is why I keep coming back.

Delicious and fresh food, so much fun for the kids, and service was good but a little slow. Only downside is the location. Area is pretty worn down. Food: The pizza is delicious and fresh. Nice chew, a little bit crisp and the great smell of freshly dough. We got the sausage and pepperoni; sausage was better but both were good. The breadsticks were hot and delicious. A little soggy with butter but I mean.. it's butter. Is that bad? Dipping cheese was better than your standard stadium nacho cheese. Chopped salad was very fresh. Not the most interesting but still good. Hot Honey chicken wings were clearly freshly battered and fried. Incredible. Very similar to Korean Fried Chicken. Alcohol: Beer and wine option were good. Could use a couple more wine options. Beer and wine had a great range of styles and prices. Bar looked very well stocked for mixed drinks or drinking neat. Service: Staff was kind and helpful. They could have been slightly more available. The food did take a while longer than I would have expected for it not being that busy. But with how fresh it was, I'm sure it's because they were making it fresh. Ambiance: Tons of space. Ultra family friendly. Board games, yard games, ping pong, fire pits. Awesome! Train tracks across the parking lot were a fun side benefit. Kids loved watching the trains go by. Drinking out of plastic cups wasn't my favorite but I understand why. Location: Next to North Mass Boulder. Not a great part of town but felt safe once you're there. Final thoughts: If you're downtown and have kids, you gotta stop here especially if it's nice outside.

Turns out the entire heated patio is first come, first served, and we were seated almost immediately. It was one of those windy Indiana afternoons where the cold finds every gap in your jacket. I fully expected to spend lunch shivering. Somehow, the heated patio felt warmer than the restaurant itself. Between the TVs, football on every screen, and the patio heaters, we had zero complaints. Now let's talk about the famous pepperoni-stuffed breadsticks. They're a must. And order your own nacho cheese. Seriously. Don't expect anyone to share. I could eat a shoe dipped in their cheese and probably enjoy every bite. The breadsticks always arrive piping hot, stuffed with gooey mozzarella, and if we're judging on a cheese-pull scale...I'm giving them a solid 7/10 on the stretch meter. As for our server, Zach...what a true gem. He's one of those people I'd honestly be surprised to hear anyone say they didn't like. Funny, quick with the jokes, and somehow kept up with the chaos without missing a beat. He also made sure my lemon drop martinis never had a chance to get lonely. Since I wasn't driving, he happily assisted me in...staying hydrated. The place was busy enough that we couldn't stand around chatting long, but he's the kind of person you'd genuinely enjoy running into again. We've been here twice now, and both visits have been consistently great. Whether you're stopping in to catch the game, escape the cold on the heated patio, or simply satisfy a craving for those ridiculously good breadsticks, Ale Emporium continues to be one of our favorite spots. Just don't skip the breadsticks...and trust me, order your own cheese. You'll understand after the first bite.

I always order the Cuban when a new restaurant has one on the menu, and Big Lug's did not disappoint. It was juicy, flavorful, and one of the better Cubans I've had in a while. On my second visit, I went with the blackened cod tacos on corn tortillas (you can also get flour tortillas, and they offer shrimp and breaded fish options). They were fresh, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious. Both visits I ordered the spicy garlic cauliflower, and it was outstanding. The homemade blue cheese dressing took it to another level. If you're on the fence about ordering it, don't be--it was one of my favorite things on the menu. The outdoor walk-up bar creates a really cool, laid-back atmosphere, making it a great place to relax whether you're meeting friends or just enjoying a meal by yourself. The staff was friendly, the service was excellent, and both meals came out quickly. I don't usually eat at the same restaurant twice on a trip, but Big Lug earned it. If I'm back in the area, it'll definitely be on my list again.

We sat right in the middle of the main thoroughfare and were completely ignored for at least 15 minutes before we finally flagged someone down. The guy, "H," apologized and said, "Oh, my bad--it's all good." We figured, no big deal, let's move on. We ordered pretty simple food, apps and were then going to put in some entrees once apps arrived. We asked for waters and a water bowl for our pups. He brought two waters--with no straws--and no dog bowl. We assumed he was going to grab the bowl, so we waited... and waited. Then I noticed him at the end of the bar leaning against some boxes, texting. So I finally got up, interrupted him and asked for the dog bowl. His response, "oh my bad." Our appetizers came out, and naturally, we asked for silverware. A few minutes later, I spotted "H" in the corner on his phone again. At that point I was thinking, seriously?! So I got up again, interrupted "H's" text convo and asked for silverware. His response again was, "Oh, my bad." I didn't respond to him I just turned around and went back to my seat. Honestly, the whole experience started feeling more like a self-serve restaurant than table service. It's a chill spot and we weren't being needy whatsoever. We never asked for any refills- we were merely asking for the basics. We wanted to order more food, but by that point we were pretty turned off and decided to just get the check. Then came the final straw: my guy had his license and credit card sitting on the table because he hadn't brought his wallet out for our monon trek. When "H" came back with the checkout thing, without question or hesitation - he grabbed the card and swiped it. We didn't even realize what happened until afterward. Maybe that's standard there, but I've never had a server just take my card without asking. Usually you get a "hey do we want to use this card? Or something to confirm. And of course the tip structure is skewed so the min is 20% unless you want to try to figure out to manually enter in 15% (which most ppl don't -incl my guy), so we left 20% and left irritated and still hungry. "H" didn't seem hungover or anything--he just genuinely seemed like he did not not give a shiiiit. We had to get up three separate times to get things we had already requested: the dog bowl, a couple straws, and silverware. (Basics) And a quick note on the 7-Layer Hoss Dip: don't expect seven layers. It comes in a small thick ceramic bowl and was basically beans, guacamole, a tiny bit of corn and some hard cheese on top. Definitely would not recommend it. Way too "beany" and not worth $16 at all. The southwest rolls were decent- very fried tho. Cheesecake Factory's are better ;) The location and dog-friendly atmosphere are great, with the exception of the homeless camp right at their patio entrance, but unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. Hopefully this was just an off night, because Big Lug has a lot going for it.
