Truly some of the best bread I've had. The zucchini and corn focaccia was delightfully fluffy and flavorful. I wish it had more topping on time, I took mine to go and the few toppings it had fell off into the bag. Did I scoop it and eat it? Yes. Was it good? Great. The croissant was one of the best I've had and we also tried a cruffin (croissant muffin) with jam + black sesame and the fillings were amazing-- perfectly balanced, a new take on PB&J. I'm surprised how blown away I was by the bread here. Would absolutely return to try their sandwiches, I'm sad I didn't try their heirloom tomato sandwich. Highly recommend checking out if you're in the area. Not sure if I'd drive all the way to Philly just for the Bread Room but I'm thinking about it. read more

cute little cafe to grab a bite and get some work done! stopped by after pilates to get some work done, and it was a cute spot! i got their miso latte which was NOT good, but i think it's just off putting to me to have my coffee taste like miso soup. my boyfriend had a iced mocha which was fine, i don't think their coffee is particularly good. despite the mediocre coffee, the sandwich i had was amazing. i have no idea what the sandwich was not labeled, but it was generously loaded with meat, fresh vegetables, and a lovely spicy peanut sauce. yum! i also had the earl grey cake which was quite dry, i would not get that again. the highlight of my stop here was definitely the sandwich, but i think that this is a nice spot overall. it's well-decorated, and has a lovely space for those looking to get out of the house and get some work done. service was super fast! it was also very generously ACed, which is clutch for the summer. read more

I see the reviews on here are mixed. I am not sure if I was just there on a good day, but I everything we ordered was fantastic. And we ordered A LOT. The only negative is I dropped about $100! 1) Black sesame latte was heavenly. I normally drink my coffee/espresso black, so this is saying a lot. My daughter enjoyed her mocha as well 2) the Meyer lemon danish was honestly one of the best danish I've had in years 3) My daughter and I agreed to split a few things, but as soon as she had a bite of her black lime chicken sandwich, it was clear I was on my own. She loved it 4) the pastrami rye croissant was perfect, especially the crispy cheesy edges 5) the miso tahini cookies was perfect 6) the seeded semolina was not only delicious but stayed fresh for a very long time 7) everything else was great too - strawberry pop tart, pecan bar, hazelnut chocolate croissant, and the kougin amman. the only slightly disappointing thing we got was a special sable cookie (can't remember if it was a particular flavor but it didn't have the right texture) We will definitely be back! read more

It lives up to its' name. The Bread Room is addicting and delicious and oh, my so goooooddd! I ordered the tuna nicoise ($16) parmesan and herb biscuit ($5), and the brown butter buckwheat chocolate chip cookie ($5). All three were delicious but imho over-priced given the portion size (especially the salad). Although the ingredients are fresh and quality good this would be an indulgence and not something I could do on the regular. One pet peeve ... the tip touch screen (ggrrrrrrrrrrr), c'mon if you are just ringing me up and nit providing table service what the actual h*ll is up with the tip solicitation! Such a great spot! Close to Chinatown and Jefferson - it's a great addition to the aisle! It's an extension of High Street so same great breads! A yummy assortment of pastries to choose from! Got the cappuccino which was had beautiful artwork and the shakshuka croissant which was a cool flavor. I gave them yet another try and this time I was very satisfied with my order. I guess 5th time is the charm lol! I got the Matcha croissant and the Pistachio escargot and both were delicious and huge! Could be easily shared between two people. I really liked the Pistachio escargot, the crust was crispy and the glaze was sweet while the inside was mildly savory was making it a very balanced pastry. The Matcha croissant was filled with lots gooey filling - however it tasted less earthy/nutty and more fresh/citrusy for some reason. read more

I'm not sure where I saw the ad, but when a 'new' bakery opens close by, it's a must stop. I saw The Bread Room was opening, right around the corner from another (very well known) bakery, High Street! I was told High Street is now the Bread Room - same owner, Ellen Yin (Fork) - it closed the little bake shop around the corner. I got 4 pastries. Chocolate croissant Cardamom Brioche Bun Kouign Amman Ginger scone with creamy carrot icing I've been warming up my pastries, cakes, etc in the oven as I've noticed it can make a BIG difference in, not only the texture, but the taste. Only 10-16 minutes at 200-250 and they taste freshly baked. Let's start with the chocolate croissant. The croissant pastry was light and very flaky; not as buttery as I might have expected. The amount of chocolate was good - there was a layer of ganache running through the middle. It was a very good croissant. Next up the Kouign Amman - I'd never heard of this pastry! It's listed as 'Smoked vanilla and Bay Leaf filled'. Hmmmm. It was the most buttery of the 4 pastries - it tasted good - but nothing special. I also got the Cardamom Brioche Bun - the buns seemed liked they were 'shining'. They were toasted a little too much - there was an underlying burnt taste to the bun. It tasted good on the inside, but the exterior compromised the flavor. I posted a picture The Bread Room posted advertising the bun - look at it, versus what I ordered. Last on the list was the Ginger scone with carrot icing. It was a very different scone - there's a ginger glaze in addition to the carrot icing - quite sweet! The scone itself has a delightful ginger taste - if you love ginger, this scone's for you. Overall, I enjoyed, but was a little disappointed with the selection of pastries. There are some very interesting and unique tastes which are influenced by Ms. Yin. I will go again and try others - I may get the brioche bun again if it's not over baked. Friendly service at this nicely appointed bakery cafe. I warmed up w/delicious Coconut Lentil Soup served w/focaccia. My Black Sesame Latte tasted like a latte. Nothing to indicate there was sesame in there. Sadly, all the pastries were either burnt, stale or flavorless. Even the Seeded Roll was all crust and no soft interior. An expensive sampling. Service was excellent, super patient as I came in with a group. They were also attentive and were the ones to first ask what we wanted. The display is clean and each item is clearly labeled with what it is and the price. The prices are not overpriced in comparison to other bakeries in the city. The coziest little pastry shop! I went for the Miso Mushroom hoagie, but ended up walking out with a vegan jam bar, too. Miso Mushroom hoagie - full of flavor, it didn't taste like mushrooms to me. I liked the greens mixed in and the bread was absolutely killer. Can't go wrong with a sesame roll. Vegan jam bar - a little on the dry side, but honestly not bad at all. I think dunking it in some coffee would help, but it had a crumb situation on top and the perfect amount of jam. Employees were so friendly and fast. Good addition to High Street Bakery family. It's cozy and homey. There are some seatings facing the window in front of the counter. On the other side there is a communal table and a couple of tables with chairs. All of the baked goods look scrumptious and inviting. Unique and beautifully displayed. Among others: passion fruit meringue, miso caramel apple pie, and gluten free muffins I had kouign aman, chocolate hazelnut croissant, and coffee hazelnut tartlet. We wanted to try a new place for coffee and pastries so we came here. It's a nice spot but very small with limited seating. I ended up ordering an iced latte and purchasing a country boule to take home with me. I didn't get any of the pastries because nothing seemed appealing at the time. I'm addicted to the Black Pepper Cheddar bread! The pastries are amazing. I just finished a strawberry 'pop tart' So good! However, the sandwiches are always a disappointment. Great selection of pastries and sandwiches, although the prices are not for the "faint of heart." While very tasty, my seeded roll with cheese was over $10 dollars. Same for my croissant, which was $5.50. As someone who used to live in France, it is always perplexing to see in the States, when someone "produces" a croissant, that the cost is over double or triple of what you'd pay in Paris. Also, I have noticed that the later you get there during the day, the less inventory there is. Purchased a rye sandwich loaf and a sesame round bread. Delicious artisanal bread. Also purchased 2 pastries - a crueler and a spelt cake. Also delicious. Initially entered a pop up around the corner, next to High Street (all affiliated with the same talented and socially conscious owner - who was on hand walking thru the pop up) wonton/congee project to benefit Philly SEAMAAC. Had a bowl of authentic and scrumptious wontons. Purchased some jams and tea all to benefit a more than worthy cause. The volunteer and staff on hand couldn't have been more delightful. High Street, as a Philadelphia flagship, has got to do better here. The "seeded bun with butter + cheddar" equivalent to the Danish breakfast staple BMO is not only inferior in all three of its ingredients to what you'll find at cafes and bakeries in Denmark, but it's priced 70% higher at $10 than the version (DKK 38) at justly famed Hart in Copenhagen, one of the most expensive cities in Europe. A proper BMO is also supposed to be edible as separate halves and not just as a sandwich - the top and bottom halves of a good bun taste different, and this is how it's typically consumed but impossible to do so with the Bread Room version that had a crumbled mess of cheddar piled inside the bun. Such a disappointment after previously trying - and loving - the TBR Breakfast Plate, also modeled after the Danish staple but still not cheap (priced equivalently to what you'll pay in Copenhagen). read more

Expansion/revamp of the High Street Market/Cafe that was on 9th street. They have added a lot more pastry/bread options but sadly discontinued two top notch offerings: The pecan tart and the cobb salad. The breads are all delicious and the desserts tasty without being too sweet. The challenge for the shop is to figure out how to handle the ordering/customer service. Wait times can be long. They have one person behind the counter and one person at the cashier. So...if you are behind 3 people ordering latte, for example, you will have to wait for the one staff member to make all three and bring down to the cashier before you can order your loaf of bread. In other words, they would really benefit from having someone else do the beverage making and/or a fast lane for people who just want to grab a salad or a roll. This seems like an easy fix and I hope they will figure out how to make it a little easier to wait in line. read more
