Solid five stars for customer service. This place isn't very easy to find. I walked along 18 street and Market Street and couldn't find it. I called the store to give me directions, and was answered right away. You need to enter through the black gate. They put a couple of signs by the gate. The girl came out from the store as we were talking on the phone to make sure that I could find it. What a service. The store is in the middle of the walkway, you will notice the outdoor tables and chairs. The two ladies there are super friendly. The desserts are neatly displayed in glass cases. Looks very inviting. I got the coffee mousse, midnight blossoms with raspberry filling, and the mango cheesecake. All of them are enjoyable and not overly sweet. My favorite is the mango cheesecake because it has a thin mango jelly that taste like a slice of mango.

I got a banana latte and the passion fruit mousse cake. Both are really good and I'm very happy with them. The inside is incredibly cute and cozy- I stopped in on my lunch break and I regret not bringing my book with me so I could have eaten there instead of back in my cubicle. The person working was very friendly and happy to recommend things to me. I will definitely be back. It's not hard to find- if you're standing on Market street facing 1735 Market Street Building, you'll see a side alley/corridor thing to your left that has a black gate at the entrance. Go down there and you'll see the storefront. There were tables and umbrellas outside too. I was a little worried I wouldn't be able to find it

Tucked away in the middle of the block, this cafe could be easy to miss, but I'd definitely make sure to give this place a visit. This is their 3rd location, and I can't speak about the other ones, but this center city installment is a great addition to the area. Walking inside, you are greeted with such warm vibes and the delectable display of all those vibrant pastries. Besides those sweets, they also serve decent coffee and food as well. I've tried my hand at a couple of their entrees and I definitely recommend the sous vide beef kimchi rice bowl. It is definitely refreshing to feel the asian influence sprinkled throughout the menu. There's a good amount of seating inside, and there's some outside as well. I do like how the entrance doesn't face the street, so it isn't as distracting. It definitely makes the place feel more cozy. I'll definitely be back to check out more of the menu and get some work done.

Delightful! I had the tortellini dumpling soup and the oreo mousse. Both were so delicious. Staff were great and the service was quick. It was not crowded at lunch time and the outside courtyard was quiet and secluded.

Pastries look like what you would see in a magazine! We went for a big plain croissant! My favorite pastry but this was huge and flaky. They heated up! Wow!! So good when it's warm! Friendly, very clean!! Outside sitting too. Little chilly to sit outside maybe next time. I fell in love with the big windows! I had a caramel macchiato got me going, ready for my day! Prices were similar to our coffee places in the Fishtown area. Thank you Cake & Joe for getting my day moving! They do have other flavor croissants. Differently have to try a different flavor.

Came here for a slice of cake. I got the chocolate mousse. The bottom didn't really stick to the rest of the cake but it was a good cake slice either way. They have some seating inside and outside and some food options as well. I want to try the one with coffee cause it looks like the closest to an opera cake.

Loved the variety of beautiful little cakes - I got the midnight blossom and it was delightful - very flavorful, soft and delicious. I got a pistachio latte with oat milk too which was fine. I'd definitely go back to try more pastries. There was ample seating inside and outside but I got mine to go - they packaged it in a nice sturdy box.

I'd recommend the cinnamon rolls! -- The Sugary offers a variety of desserts ranging from cookies, cakes, muffins, and cupcakes. There are also a variety of "birthday/celebration items," like cards and candles. The interior is small, with one table, but very clean and well-decorated. The service is quick and conducive for to-go orders and they accept credit card. As there is only one register, if there is a line, it may take a while. When I was there, I was in and out in about 5 minutes. I ordered the cheesecake, rainbow cookie, and cinnamon roll. These were all so delicious and I'll be back soon for more! The cheesecake was decadent but had depth to its flavor and the crust was thick and solid. I really enjoyed the slice and it was large enough to be shared, so I felt the price was spot on for the value. The rainbow cookie was one of the best I've ever had, with its rich chocolate flavor, and was an elevated version of ones I've had in the past. Lastly, the cinnamon roll was a bit too sweet for me, but otherwise it was what I'd call "a perfect cinnamon roll." Fluffy, cinnamon-forward, and with lots of icing! I'd highly recommend The Sugary for any sweet treat cravings, but only if you have no allergies or dietary restrictions. They offer custom desserts but there is a disclaimer of cross-contamination risk.

I opted for their tiramisu as I was drawn to the adorable packaging. And as it turns out, there's more to it than meets the eye since it also tasted pretty good. I liked that it was only subtly sweet and pretty light and creamy. I didn't taste too much coffee rum in it, despite the warning about the alcohol content. This tiny shop closes around 3pm on Sundays, so make sure you go there soon enough in the day so that you can give their delectable sweets a try.

I walked right up and ordered - you can look through the window at the pastries - and order which ones you would like. I immediately noticed these 'large' cakes (large compared to the pastries) and asked what they were - Pound Cakes - Lemon and Lavender. I opted for the Lavender. This was a 'simple' cake - a little icing on the top, and a very subtle lavender taste. It was moist and rich, but not too dense - perfect texture. It was a very enjoyable piece of cake. I may try the Lemon Pound cake next time. Next, was the Plum Almond Tarte - it looked amazing. The exterior was browned and had a delicious caramelized crunch to it. I could immediately taste the plum topping as I crunched on a few almonds. However, once I got to the interior of the tart, it was soggy - too moist. I don't think it's supposed to be that way - but it made the tart difficult to eat. It was very tasty, but the sogginess really detracted from the texture. There's an attached picture of the middle of the tart. I thought I would get a cookie and they had 4 choices - I chose the Molasses. It has been a LONG time since I had a molasses cookie. This one had a soft homemade texture - it was sprinkled with sugar. The deep taste of molasses came through immediately and left a delightful little 'bite' like fresh ginger or cloves might do. It was a great cookie. I saw some macaroons in the front of the window - plain and chocolate chip - I got the plain. I'm used to the 'store bought' macaroons-with finally chopped coconut and a soft creamy texture. This was NOT the Manishewitz coconut macaroon I grew up with....good thing! This was a 'real' macaroon - the coconut was shredded a longer length and had true texture. The cookie has a crispy exterior and a chewy coconut interior. I also ordered a mini tarte - the Pear Pistachio Tarte. It was covered in a pistachio crumble and a pear topping, with a pistachio custard filling, which had a reasonable consistency, unlike the Plum Almond. I'm a big pistachio lover and this little tart was yummy - the combination of nutty and fruity came out really well. Last, but not least, is the Apricot Financier. This is a very different pastry - moist - with a very subtle almond taste. There's a very small slice of apricot (I wish there would have been more) which added a nice fresh fruity chew to the light cake. While the cake tasted fine, it needed 'something' more. I'll be returning to Tarte - most likely for the pound cakes and a few cookies!

I tried many pastries, but my favorite is still the chocolate babka bun. When I went to The Bakeshop recently, it was in the afternoon and they had sold out of the chocolate babka buns, so I got an orange babka bun with chocolate chips, hoping it would suffice. It didn't, but I'll come back to that. I got a few more items, a double chocolate banana muffin, a peanut butter chocolate scone, and a slice of apple cake. I felt I couldn't write a review without including the chocolate babka bun, so I went back two days later (9 a.m.) and picked one up - while I was there, I got a sticky bun with nuts (which had also sold out) and a plain croissant. Now, I have all these pastries! Let's start with chocolate babka bun, it's easily in the top 5 of my all time favorite pastries. I'm a babka fanatic of sorts - I usually always have a babka in my cupboard and/or freezer. I like them all - from a classic like Russ and Daughters (NYC) which is like a loaf of bread with a little chocolate. Or, the Nutella ganache filled babka at Bread's, which is more like a pastry. The Bakeshop's chocolate babka is somewhere in between - the chocolate glaze and sweet crunch of the bun's exterior, compliments a light and fluffy interior that has chocolate swirls running through it. It truly is an amazing bun! When I first went, as I mentioned above, I got the Orange glazed babka with chocolate chips. This babka was VERY different (as you'll see in the pictures) than the chocolate babka. It was more like a challah with a little orange glaze and a few chocolate chips. The glaze on top was very scarce and there was no swirl inside - just challah bun. Luckily, I like challah, and this bun was a sweeter version, with a hint of orange. I was looking at the scones (which you'll also see in the pictures) and they all looked good - The Bakeshop has some very creative flavors! I was deciding between the Chunky Monkey and the Peanut Butter Chocolate scones, and went with the PBC. It was very tasty, chocolaty with little peanut crunches throughout. I saw an Apple Cake there, and immediately knew what it was, as my mother made the BEST apple cake. I got a slice, knowing the Bakeshop had a high hurdle to meet. Unfortunately, it failed coming close. While the cake itself tasted good, it was way too dense, to the point of being soggy in places. Apple cakes are very moist, that's what makes them so special, but, they're still 'cakes'. I got the Double Chocolate Banana muffin - mostly chocolate with a hint of banana. This is a very dense muffin....very, very chocolaty! I like chocolate, but this was probably a little more than I expected. It was very flavorful and I liked it, but would try something else in the future. The Sticky Bun!! I'm also a sticky bun fanatic - they looked so good on my return visit, I had to get one, and I'm so glad I did! There is always a balance between the amount of dough and 'frosting and swirl' - you don't want too much of either. This bun was balanced perfectly and the cinnamon sugar glaze and swirl throughout was so luscious! It's a must try. Last, but definitely not least, was the plain croissant. After such an assortment above of sweet and decadent pastries, I wanted to see how their croissant was. Sometimes 'less is more', I wanted a plain classic pastry and this croissant was exactly what you would expect from a great bakery. Light, flaky, buttery, and delicious. Well, this was quite a line up of goodies! The Bakeshop is undoubtedly one of the best bakeries in Philadelphia. When (not if) you go, the chocolate babka bun is a MUST, but requires a pickup before 10 or 11 at the latest!

The bakery has a really inviting atmosphere, with a wide display of pastries that makes it hard to choose just one thing. Eventually I went with a long cinnamon donut as well as a croissant. The cinnamon donut had all of the characteristics of both a donut and a pastry. The croissant was light, flaky, and buttery, just how you'd want a good croissant to be! Everything tasted fresh, and it was a really nice quick stop whether you're looking for breakfast or just a snack during the day.
