My family and I decided to give Dr. Rolf's BBQ a shot during our stay in Muskegon and were blown…read moreaway! We each ordered the 1 Meat + 2 Sides Platters. We had the 2 ribs, brisket, and pork. The 2 ribs and pulled pork paired with the BBQ sauces at the table were tasty however the brisket was a bit dry. The sides were a knockout, complimenting our meals. I especially savored the waffle cornbread! The food came out quick and our waitress was phenomenal. She anticipated our needs and clearly knew the menu well. I can't wait to come again!

Good news: I did not feel left out at Dr. Rolf's Barbeque as a vegetarian. I went a different I typically don't choose and ordered the quesadilla with smoked sweet potatoes. It comes with a southwest ranch, mango salsa, and chips. The smoked isn't an obvious feature, and the pairing of the quesadilla and the southwest ranch is a really nice bite. I liked the mango salsa on its own but didn't feel as if it was needed with the quesadilla given the sweetness coming from the sweet potatoes. As for the potato chips: no complaints from me! The dish came with a side, and I opted for the potato salad. That was quite nice, especially with some extra salt. I also had some bites of other folx in my party's sides, and they were all solid. All in all, I was pleased with the cuisine and would say "yes" to the suggestion of a repeat dining experience at Dr. Rolf's. It's a nice addition to the West Michigan food scene.

I wanted to give it 3 or 4 stars, but meat MUST be the centerpiece of what a BBQ joint is judged…read moreon...and it did not come through at all. First the good: -Staff was friendly and helpful. -Place was clean. -Garlic toast was yummy! -French fries were fresh and hot. Now the bad: -Pulled Pork was mushy and completely shredded to where it kind of clumped together, lacked any smoke flavor and tasted like water had been added (maybe more than once) to add moisture. -Campfire corn was weird. I never had anything like it, so I have a hard time evaluating. At first I did not like it at all, but as I ate more I kind of liked it. Final tally, 2.5 out of 5. -Sauces were not good at all. I tried the sweet and the spicy and both were meh. I did not try the mustard sauce. I wanted to like the place. I love BBQ and want LOTS of good BBQ joints to exist. But, when I read this on the website, "Holy Smokers BBQ has won many awards for their delicious Que! They still compete...in Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana and Illinois. Why settle for BBQ that just don't measure up. Years of proven success cooking BBQ Low & Slow for that flavor that can't be matched." and then have such a bad experience with the meat, it's disappointing. I will try again and if I have a better result, I'll update.

I love BBQ. But the pork ribs are too salty. The ribs are very tender but taste is more like oven…read morebaked. The service is good and the drive thru is great.
