Had a fabulous dinner with friends while listening to the Irish sessions musicians. The food was top notch, including the.Cullin Skink soup, thick and creamy and smoking and just perfect. It was served with two large pieces of toasted bread, which was a sort of ciabatta. In fact, this soup was better than anything I've had in Scotland. I also ordered.the shepherds pie which was Delicious and full of small and tasty pieces of lamb. The gravy was dark and thick and the potatoes on top just perfect! Had I known the soup was so rich, I would've ordered a salad to go with it. So I am now stuck with a half of a shepherds pie to dig into for dinner tonight, such a problem to have. The atmosphere is simply lovely and this is a restaurant that I could imagine. My parents dining at back in the 1950s. There is a small gift shop, which is really fun to go through. Party of four... we made it here on a Saturday night on a whim, no reservation... staff was very accomodating and helpful in getting us a table and the service by the waitress was very good as well. Over the course of dinner, the place never really filled up. And as the evening went on, I found out why. I will say that the food was very good - we asked for the Clams Casino and the Mozzarella Wedge. Soup of the day was New England Clam Chowder, it was nice and thick and loaded with both potatoes and clams. Definitely one of the better ones I've had. Dinner was the BLI Burger, which my wife tells me was very good but no better than quite a few deli's in Syracuse. I ordered the Truffle Gnocci and Scallops, which was expensive for the portion I got - they tried to make it look bigger by serving it in a large bowl but no one was fooled. About 6 gnocci and 3 scallops with some mushroom risotto. Pathetic. Then came the coup de grace... two filet au poivre with the Lazy Surf and Turf. What does this really mean, you might ask? Well, instead of getting a lobster tail they pull the meat out and serve it in a bowl of butter for you. Hence, "lazy" - you don't have to do any work. And they charge exorbitantly for this service. So the price was $74 for the steak with an additional upcharge of $28 for the "lazy" lobster tail. One guest got the lobster tail, one didn't. Was it good? Yes. Was it worth the price? Absolutely not - I've been to Chicago and gotten a better, larger cut of steak for far less than this. So for dinner the bill came to a little over $300 (not including tip). Ridiculous to pay for 4 dinners and a few appetizers, especially when one of them was a burger and fries. I could have gone to the Grotto in North Syracuse, gotten bigger portions, better quality food and spent about half as much. As it stands, I won't be back - not because of the food quality or the service, but because the prices are far too much for far too little. read more

Strip steak was good, tender and flavorful. Ordered the surf and turf and felt like the amount of lobster "pieces" was too little in quantity for the price.. Mashed potatoes and veggies were fine. My wife had the orchietta chicken sausage which was just okay. We weren't wowed. Seemed like it needed more garlic or a little kick. Service and ambiance were adequate. Dined there on a snowy Friday evening for a pre birthday dinner. We had a cute corner booth very private. I was worried at first because they had live music, but it was far enough away that we could hear it faintly you were still able to have a great conversation and enjoy a great meal. The service was top-notch. Our meals came out in a timely manner, giving us enough time to enjoy each course after we die and we went to see the music. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could, but decided to round high because I so much like the people there + I like to help compensate for the whiners reviews about things like not getting the exact table they wanted WITHOUT reservations We made reservations and were seated promptly even though we arrived a little early, which they didn't even mention. We had the bonfire shrimp as an appetizer- very tasty. My wife asked for the recipe lol. My Kid had the BLI burger and said it was one of the best burgers he ever had. Fries tasted freshly made, no too much grease, well seasoned and good portions We had the lazy man's lobster; although we did have to cut some of the large pieces and it seemed mostly claw meat but still delicious. Brae Lock is so cozy with a nostalgic elegance especially during the holiday season. My friend and I stopped in after visiting one of the local farms. She loved the authentic Scottish establishment that has been open since 1805! We ordered wine from the bar area that was a ten minute wait or so, but did a little exploring of all the little nooks and crannies and ended up by the fireplace and Christmas tree! The aroma coming from the kitchen was mouth watering, you could smell the prime rib simmering! I wish I had ordered a to go dinner! Food- Appetizers were great with the exception of the haggis, wasn't my cup of tea but was excited to try something new. The lamb pops were amazing, definitely try them. Naan bread with burrata was very good too. I didn't get any pictures of the main entrees unfortunately but we got prime rib and filet. Both were exceptional! Prime rib was cooked well, great flavor and minimal fat content. Beverages- Wide selection of whiskeys and went for a neat whiskey for the Scottish experience. Ambience- This was a 5/5. Love the food and the ambience here. It was a nice day when we went and we could've sat aside without table service, but opted to sit indoors. There was live music the night we went, and it felt just like an Irish Pub inside. Great place for a rainy, snowy, or overcast day... opt for outside on sunnier days! We came to Caz for a half-honeymoon for the weekend. We were told to check out the BLI, and will forever be glad we did. The interior of the restaurant is very comfortable and of an old-wealth style. Not too loud, and I appreciated the background music being out-of the way but also tasteful (acoustic renditions of various alt-genres, such as Radiohead, U2, etc) The food was simply perfect. Rack of lamb? Try 2. I've ordered lamb before and you know when they give you like 3 small sticks and try to cover up their creative minimalism by calling them "lollipops?" Like, gaslighting you into believing you're getting a great value? I got 2 racks interlaced like my fingers over my belly post-consumption. My wife got the prime rib (only available Fridays and Saturdays) and it was - as our awesome server Michelle told us - the best ever, simply put. Terry, the maître d' of the evening came over to check on us and ensure we had a great experience after introducing himself. He laughed as my jokes which was more than I need to make me happy, and his very welcome nature was very welcome indeed upon being seated and when we were through with our meal. This has become our favorite restaurant in the area. The cocktails, apps and entrees are all very creative and flavorful. Three of us had the haggis, queen cut prime rib, rack of lamb, snapper, smoked salmon and a creme brulee, plus one pour of Scotch, three draft beers, and two cocktails. I will start this as I always do by saying that I don't give out five stars unless I am really blown away. I have been eating here for years but have not been in a while. If you have never been here please take the time. The atmosphere alone is worth going. It feels like a real Scottish pub when your in the downstairs. I have to give a shout out to Kim our waitress who was busting her butt to take care of everything. They seemed pretty short staffed just like most places right now. She did a great job. Food was good as always. The French onion was a little lack luster but okay. The Deconstructed tuna wonton was delicious. I would go for another one of those right now. And the meat pie was huge glad we ordered one to share or I would have had to loosen my belt a notch to eat it all. Solid service, cool old building, okay food. You don't see a lot of Scottish food in CNY, so this was a treat. The building's a rambling pile, with plenty of nooks and crannies -- there was live music playing 100 feet away (inside) and we heard pretty much none of it (which was our preference), tucked away in a booth. We started off with haggis. I'd had plenty of haggis on trips to Scotland -- it's usually served up as a kind of savory oatmeal. It sounds kinda scary, but nobody serves it inside a sheep's stomach, except on special occasions, here or in Scotland. It arrived as a big ol' cylinder of loose sausage topped by some nicely spiced mashed potatoes. The sausage was less flavorful, but still tasty. And there was an enormous amount of it for $12 -- I would've been happy with that as an entree, maybe with a veggie side. There wasn't much oatmeal (definitely some), and while I feel kinda stupid complaining that there wasn't enough filler in it, I kinda wish there'd been more oatmeal. My partner ordered a bridie, a kind of meat (or veggie, but we got lamb and sirloin) dumpling. If I've ever had it before, I don't remember it, but this was delicious, with flakey dough, tasty filling, and a really savory gravy on top. As a main, I had a lamb gnocchi bolognese. The gnocchi were pretty much the texture of mashed potatoes, totally falling apart, which was a bit disappointing -- I prefer light gnocchi pillows, but there it is. The lamb was, yet again, tasty, and the portion was extremely generous -- at least two meals worth. $34 seemed like a lot for the dish, though. My sweetie had the salmon filet, which was tasty but not especially amazing, and similarly generous. I had a glass of the Talking Cursive Brewing Company Scotch Ale, brewed specifically for Brae Loch, and enjoyed it. My partner had a couple glasses of wine and was similarly happy. I'd definitely go back again, although I'd probably order a little less, and I'd be a little more careful not to order three different lamb dishes, as they all tasted pretty similar (duh -- and that was totally on me). There were plenty of tasty-looking options on the menu, and a lot of interesting-sounding sides available. The service was friendly and fairly attentive, despite it being a busy Friday night. The decoration is kind of kitschy, with tartan fabric dividers on the booths, and short tartan skirts on the servers, with random Scottish stuff scattered around. read more

Super Irish place with a bunch of Scotch everywhere. We can a bit late but they said we can still sit. Happy our server was great and she challenged my companions to see who eats faster since they kept taking so long. Every time I come back to The city it is my first stop now. We feel so lucky to have attended the Brae Loch Inn's Halfway to Robbie Burns Night celebration last night! Visiting Cazenovia for this week, I saw the notice on the restaurant's web site and Facebook and made a reservation. The music was terrific with a two-person band, multiple bagpipers and a highland dancer! The food was very good. I enjoyed the Burns Night Supper special that included Poussin Chicken with whisky cream sauce paired with haggis, mashed potatoes ("tatties") and asparagus. The haggis was very mild, probably best suited to American tastebuds. The special came with a dessert of Strawberry Cranachan Parfait, which was tasty. They had clearly staffed up for the party. However, our waitress was struggling to keep up. She brought me the wrong dessert (I had selected the Sticky Toffee Pudding), but I didn't make a stink about it. She also forgot to bring the sauce for my partner's strip steak but finally delivered it. Overall this was a wonderful night and I am glad we were able to experience it. read more

They were nice enough but don't lie to my face, I KNOW what plastic looks like, it wasn't a big deal, it didn't make it into my mouth, I wanted to bring awareness so it didn't happen again, to someone else. and when somebody orders medium rare don't send out one half perfectly cooked lamb and the other piece well done, and I don't think sticky toffee pudding should be HARD. We got it to go, so THAT was quite a disappointment later that night, it's a beautiful building and cozy but not worth the drive or the expense. But we are glad we found out for ourselves. read more

The Brae Loch Inn has been in Cazenovia since around 1950. It has kept its charm and distinctive upscale feeling all these years. The food is as good today as it was when I was a graduate student in the 70's and dinner was half a weekly stipend. We sat outdoors, it was a Saturday night. On Friday's they have live music which I hear is really good. They have a full bar, lots of Scotch, specialty cocktails and a wine list. We had a delicious Gumbo and French Onion soups. The prime rib is to die for. Most restaurants don't pack the roast in salt for baking, Brae Loch does, the difference in taste and moisture is obvious and marvelous. The beef is served with mashed potato, broccolini, a horseradish sauce and a jus. One in our group had the surf and turf and nearly passed out in gastronomic ecstasy. I can't say enough about this place. My husband and I fell in love with Scotland when we visited a few years ago, and we've been missing it like crazy. Brae Loch Inn reminds us SO much of a specific place we stayed in Glenfinnan, Scotland. It's got everything except the accents, haha! AND it's only a 1.5 hr drive from home. The building is one of those places you can just FEEL the history and age as soon as you walk in. Every inch is seeped in it. All of the staff are wonderful, from the folks working the desk to the waitress in the restaurant. Free drink is offered upon check-in, much appreciated. We stayed in the Mary, Queen of Scots room. Supposed to be haunted, but sadly, we had no visitations. I will say, turning the heat on makes the pipes creak in a perfectly spooky way, haha. Only downside was when it woke me up a few times at night. But even then, it's part of the charm. The restaurant was absolutely delightful. They have live music, and you can request to be seated near or further away for quiet intimacy. We ended up in the Lovers Booth, which is near the stairs. It's a very romantic little nook! We got the haggis for appetizer(it's not authentic because of certain organ meat restrictions, but it was still delicious.) Hubby and I both got the Lazy Man's Surf & Turf-he got the prime rib, I got the strip. Perfectly cooked, all of it. Drinks were also good-margaritas and dirty martini. My husband and I were married here yesterday. Unfortunately the venue was, from start to finish, one of the most disappointing experiences of my entire life. When we arrived there was absolutely noone to help with questions and we were entirely ignored for the photos and ceremony. Not a single staff member acknowledged us and we had to track down staff in the three story building every single time we had a question. We had called several times before to plan things and were thoroughly ignored then too but we were so in love with the building that we continued on. I couldn't even imagine the way the Day Of would be as unpleasant as it was. The ceremony was beautiful anyway because the building is beautiful and frankly because I could have married my husband literally anywhere and I would have been positively delighted. From the second we stepped down out of the ceremony space where we were ignored by staff though, into the dining room where they couldn't ignore us, things took a sharp turn for the worse. The gum chewing waitress was SO snappy. From the second we sat down. The bread and butter board contained butter (I'm actually vaguely certain it was margarine because of the texture which would have been perfectly fine if it hadn't been so expensive) tasted like straight cleaning chemicals. My dinner, when it finally arrived after taking FOREVER, was absolutely inedible. The filet was BURNED on the entire outside and waaaay past the medium I requested. It was a literal hockey puck. The lobster was like chewing on rubber. The wild rice mix was mush and honestly tasted like vomit. I went to the bathroom to have a small crisis about asking for something else because I have severe anxiety and another guest mentioned to the waitress that it wasn't okay and she was SO RUDE about it. Unbelievably rude. He had to fight her to take it away. The waitress almost immediately brought the check when I returned to the table and said *so loud* "I got the ~$60~ meal removed from the check." like that was in any way our complaint, and smacked it down in front of me. She didn't ask about dessert, didn't ask about anything else. Didn't offer to bring me anything else. Just slammed down the check and when she saw I was tearing up, she rolled her eyes. I literally ran (as much as I can with a broken foot) to the car before I broke down sobbing in front of these people who would pretty clearly mock me for doing so, and left my poor brand new husband to pay the check. As another guest and I left, all of the wait staff was cold and even the host, whom I'm almost certain is the owner, wouldn't speak to us. It was the worst dining experience I've ever had which is heartbreaking both because I love food (I've been in food service since high school, including fine dining) and because it was our wedding dinner (which the staff onviously knew) but I have absolutely no idea what we did to warrant it! I am SO UNBELIEVABLY GLAD that we were just a small party of 6, as opposed to the entire wedding reception of friends and family that I had planned to take to this restaurant. I would have absolutely died of embarrassment. Needless to say I will NEVER go back and I will firmly discourage others from going. read more

We were seated near the fireplace, and had drinks and dinner. Though my mouth was anticipating beef Wellington, when I placed my order, I found out they were out of it, and the next menu coming out would not include it. Sad, so few places have it. All three of us ordered the Highlander. It was a perfectly cooked 8 Oz filet mignon, with a gorganzola smoked bacon cream sauce, accompanied by mashed potatoes and a squash medley. No room for dessert, and I was still full the next day and skipped breakfast. Great spot, great food, and great service. Just wish I'd gotten there while they had the Wellington! read more

Recently my daughter and son in law , PREPAID AND BOOKED a room with a jacuzzi for their honeymoon nite ( Sept2), i dropped them off after the wedding and next morning was told how HORRIBLE their experience and room was . Her words , " we booked a room specifically for the jacuzzi, for our WEDDING NITE, arriving at the room found it OUT OF ORDER , they never said anything to us that it out of service , then after that checked the bed... YEllOW STAINS ON THE SHEETS!!! " ,and then she went on , about the breakfast just. Coffee ( lousy. Update 2019: My dad and I have now stayed here 3 times and we just love it. The ambiance, the coziness, the staff, the restaurant and its delicious food, its proximity to downtown and the wineries in the area...all this and more make it the perfect place to stay. We'll be back next year! read more
