We recently moved so we are closer to this Maple Valley location. Decided to try them out even though I heard mixed reviews from people I personally know that went here. We were told to show up 15 minutes early to class so we could sign new paper work and do a quick walk through of their gym. My husband and I planned this 1.5 weeks in advance.. he left work early even to make this class. We showed up right on time and were told we needed to be there 30 minutes early and that they won't let us in the class. The front desk people rolled their eyes and claimed I should've read the email even though the gal on the phone said 15 minutes and I repeated it back to her. I tried to see if there was anything we could do to get in but apparently it's a strict policy (my other location was never like that). So I drove 40 minutes there and back super angry with how they treated us and I will never be returning to this location again. I'll be driving out of the way to go back to my original home studio. Sure it doesn't mean much to them but they lost out on 2 members.

Case in point, on day one the owner diagnose an issue that I was having with my form for one of the Olympic, weightlifting movements, which another gym in the areas coaches hadn't noticed for seven months, and had led to an injury. Day one Joe diagnosed the problem and it was fixed without me even asking!There are two sides of the gym, dedicated for electric weightlifting on one side, and the other side, high intensity, interval training. This shit is easily accessible, clean, and has easy parking. It is not a globo gym, nor is it simply an iron fitness. There is space for what you need if it's a casino workout, or you're dropping in for open gym or individual weightlifting session. Coaches run classes on time, one hour, which is not the experience that I have had other community style gyms in the past in the area. American flag over the door, attentive coaches and community, never asking for reviews online (a great plus!), accessible in ten minutes or less from JBLM, Lakewood, all the way up to Ruston. Dustin, Jake, Jeremy, Rae, and many other instructors have helped me so much in learning all the right technique and encouraging me to never give up. All the members are so friendly and motivating. Many of the members would come up to me and introduce themselves even after a sweaty and tough workout. Everyone is so encouraging, which makes me give my 100% every WOD. CrossFit is definitely a good workout when you want to get sweaty in less than an hour. It incorporates both strength training and cardio, which is perfect for me. And they have some good pump-up music which is a plus :) I love the environment here, and I will miss everyone who has been part of my CrossFit journey.

Jake has a way of making you feel like instant family. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. CFD has fantastic coaches that are L1/L2 trained and focus on form, not just increasing the weight on the bar. They work with the entire spectrum. From beginners to advanced athletes, kids to 80 year olds and everything in between. The coaches are able to easily pivot and modify workouts to your individual needs. They are known within the Crossfit community for their competitions - girls comp, couples comp, etc and always put on a great comp. Highly recommend stopping by for a WOD or joining the CFD family!

Jake and Jared run an amazing, friendly, welcoming and clean gym with coaches that know how to push and hype you up. I also don't think I've ever seen a community as supportive of each other as the members and staff of CFD. On their personal training side, Austin is an excellent personal trainer (and coach) that has a plan for each of your sessions, explains what you're doing and why, as well as hyping you up during your workout. My first encounter with SSP was a Saturday morning Metabolic Conditioning class. For someone who doesn't really know her way around weights & equipment and was def more out of shape than the other folks there, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Everyone was SO friendly and made me feel like I was joining a community as soon as I walked through the door. Throughout the entire hour, Ro led our class of about 10-15 people through a series of high-intensity interval training workouts and made sure we were all appropriately pushed to our limits. Every exercise was super form-focused and accessible to different skill levels and abilities. I may have felt like I needed to vom and/or pass out a couple of times but, more than anything, I was v proud of myself for challenging my body. Since that class, I have returned and worked out with a number of the other trainers (Meg, Ana, and Jay) who are all equally attentive, encouraging, and just the best. The exercises they prepare are always tough, fun, and never the same. I never thought I'd be one to use kettlebells, TRX, and battle ropes but here I am, getting a little stronger every time I go to SSP. I often think about how miserable I was with my virtually nonexistent exercise routine about a year ago and am so glad that I found this gym. SSP is helping me love and prioritize my fitness again and I couldn't be more grateful!

The folks here are low-pressure but seem to adapt to what you want and what goals you are looking to achieve. I see all types and ages here. They have the traditional weights, kettle balls but go further with the various programs they offer. I am the fittest I have been in my life after just a few short weeks. This place is the best gym I have ever belonged to.
