Update: came back a few years later. Doesn't seem to be the same place. The beer selection is ok but seems to have gotten more mainstream versus keeping it more on smaller scale for beers. The food...my favorite all time dish was the crawfish pie. Though it was ok it was not as good as I remembered it. I use to brag this place up on the pie. I've stopped by The Bulldog a few times for dinner. It's a cool place with a great woody decor, lots of TV's, a great menu, and most importantly a huge beer list. I've opted for their awesome grilled tuna sandwich (minus the mayo) with veggie skewers multiple times because its THAT good. I've found that you get the best service at the bar...probably because the waitresses are running all over for their tables. As an FYI, I believe they have trivia on Tuesday nights...and it must be good because they have a pretty serious set of interesting trivia groupies. I love going to the bulldog and patio drinking. I'm not a beer drinker but my friends are and they like the selection. I usually choose one of their mixed drinks and an appetizer. I like the nachos. There is also heaters outside and fans and big screen tv. Also the manager Alex is one cool guy. He is always friendly and making sure customers are happy. read more

I enjoyed my time there. My husband and I just went for the beer flights and shared three of those with some garlic fries. It was really good. I enjoyed their flight selection and the fries were pretty good as well. We chose to stay in Jackson based on there being a Bulldog alone. We (ok, mostly husband) have spent a significant amount if time at the Bulldog in Uptown, New Orleans. That's our bar. I made a novice mistake of letting our toddler break a glass he had collected over the years. We walked in, the most awesome and friendliest service ever. Ordered 2 pints, then asked if we could buy some glasses. (I had some making up to do). These guys went in the back, brought out all they had, and sent us on our way. I wish I had asked their names, but thoroughly impressed. I've now made up for the tragic loss of that glass years ago. Couldn't be happier. Totally made the trip to Jackson worth it. read more

The Bulldog is my go to spot for the Jackson area! If you are a craft beer fan, you will not be disappointed. The food is very good and offers many things that a typical bar menu would not offer. I see a lot of people that are complaining about service, but I have never had an issue with service. I ALWAYS ask for Lauren, and when she is there it is always the best experience we could have gotten. The many times that I go and she is not there, we still do not have any complaints about service. I also see people complaining about the staff not being very knowledgeable on beer. When asking what a good light beer is the response was "Bud Light"... Well, a good light beer is based on opinion, not fact. They will let you sample beers if you are not sure. Overall, the best spot in the area for good beer and sports. read more

Strange, I've been in the restaurant and social media business for years, always loved Yelp (Hell, my former company was partnered with them), but never that compelled to officially write a review...Until now. It's a sad fact. Living in New Orleans, we do tend to get a bit spoiled with amazing food and dining experiences! And with family in Jackson, I never do try to expect too much. So, to the Bulldog in Jackson... This place couldn't do more things wrong. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure amongst the local "Buffalo Wild Wings" and "Applebees" fans in Jackson...this is considered a fine dining experience. So why change, or try to accel right? Whatever. This place opens and closes at will. With no stability in schedule whether it's a weekend filled with bowl games, or just a nice afternoon to go sip a bloody mary...this place is closed. Seriously, cut the lights on and throw one of your scrub bartenders behind the bar and a fry cook in the kitchen and take care of business. In all fairness, I've only been here twice. The first time was when I was in Jackson on business, and went in for a beer on a Sunday night. The place, like most in Jackson, was dead. I did belly up to the bar and have a good conversation with a nice couple traveling through. I got the Newcastle Spin and Art dip, and as far as this pre-processed appetizer is concerned, it was above average. The hispanic gentleman behind the bar was more concerned with lining up "Cat" to meet later after he closed...at which he couldn't do fast enough...rather then tend to his patrons. Then, my last and final time at this fine establishment was last Tuesday night. I was in town for my daughters graduation, and had met up with a friend to have a beer after a long drive. Carlito was behind the bar again, and was completely in charge! Shortly after we got our drinks and headed to the patio, last call was called. I considered closing my tab when I saw 5 girls come out with their flavored red foo foo drinks, followed shortly thereafter by 2 gents with fresh beers. "I'm gonna grab one more...would you like one?" I said to my pretty ladyfriend. "Yes please". I went in and motioned to my bestie...at which he made the "Slit throat" motion. Universal in pubs for "Closed out" or "Done". When he finally came over I jokingly said something like "C'mon man...you just gave like 10 people drinks...I'll be done before they will be, and will definitely tip better!" (Keep in mind I was smiling the whole time.) He immidiately became aggressive...and by the looks of his pupils, I'm sure he had additional motivation. "You do this everytime you come here! How dare you....show me disrespect! I don't care about your money, I don't need your tip!" Wow. I replied..."Dude...this is my 2nd time here. And I disagree with you as a former bartender, I, as most care about tips...it's what we work off of." He kept on..."Let me explain something to you, you don't come to a bar, and say to a bartender about you going to tip good! You don't come and show me this disrespect! I'm going to get you one drink...but don't ever do this again." At this point he was making a scene. I finally replied in a very calm demeaner..."Don't. Seriously, no disrespect was intended, and the only disrespect being shown is from you. Just seriously close me out." "NO...I'll get you one more BUT don't you EVER show me disrespect again!" Finally I said, "Seriously...I don't want a beer, just run my tab." Upon realizing I wanted no part of this place anymore, and was not taking his bait to escalate the fight, he made a pathetic attempt to try and ban me. Lol. "Ok...but do me a favor...don't come in here...when I work, don't come here!" Sure, I'm going to go through the trouble to find this guys schedule out, and show up when he's not working...because I can't get enough of the Bulldog in Jackson, MS!! I again calmly replied, "Don't worry." I tipped him 30%, signed, and said thank you. I'm not one to get into altercations. And being in the industry for as long as I have, I was honestly appauled at what had just gone down. There is an unwritten code amongst those that have worked in the trenches. And one typically currently in them, should want to take care of his common folk. I walked out to share my experience with my friend...at this point it was funny because it was so blatantly insane! The gentleman sitting next to us heard the story and chimed in..."He can do what he wants, his name's on the liquor license!" REALLY!? Is the talent pool in Jackson this weak!?!? Look, here in Nola, the Bulldog is an institution. I cannot imagine that when the owners had plans to expand into Jackson, MS, that this was their vision. It's a disgrace to all they have built. Yes, let's hire a weak-minded individual, make him mad with power, and put all of our focus on his ability to "Run leg" and alienate good customers. And let's do it with consistancy! read more

The Bulldog has an incredible beer selection, however the menu almost never matches the beers which are available. The food is decent, but nothing spectacular. The patio is one of our favorite spots to hang out with friends mostly because it easy to carry on a conversation without yelling at each other. The quality of service is inconsistent; some days it's great, and other days it is incredibly slow. However, management has recently changed and the new manager takes his role seriously. He is super nice and willingly to go the extra mile to make sure his customers are taken care of and happy. read more

Very disappointing. We ordered a shrimp poboy and fries. Fries were great. Bread on the poboy was good. The rest was not good. No sauce or anything. The biggest disappointment was our bill. Our card was swiped twice. It came out of my bank account. The manager Dana lied and said it would roll off. However, it has not. So be careful. A friend of mine would always tell me stories of his times here, he made it sound so interesting that I couldn't wait to get a chance to visit. The Bulldog on Ridgewood is casual, good crowd and I love the souvenir glasses, especially the Bulldog, as I am a devoted MSU Dawgs fan. I enjoy sitting outside and I do wear a Bulldog tee purchased from The Bulldog. No matter which team you favor, they have plenty of screens to watch. Me and my husband visited the bulldog Tuesday night and had some great drinks and great dinner. The bartender Brittany was awesome. We asked for both food and beer recommendations and she was very knowledgeable about the beers on tap and we loved her recommendations. She was very attentive and funny, our glasses never got empty all night, and she just had an all around great personality!
