Great place to eat! You will see from church clothes to suit in tie. No hats. The first time we went we did not know so we weren't in dress attire. But they were happy to have us and never acted like it was a problem. Both times we have eaten here it's been delicious. My husband gets the ribeye and I have gotten the crab cakes twice. We have never had anything here that was less than amazing....other than the tabbouleh. I love tabbouleh, just not theirs. The sautéed crab claws or phenomenal. We never thought we would enjoy them more than the fried, but hands-down, the best. They are so good that when we went this past Saturday night they sold out on Friday night. They are always fresh and never frozen. Don't pass these up if they have them. The eggplant appetizer is so unique and so delicious. We like to order crabcakes for appetizers. The freshest, most delicious, no filler crab cakes ever. The blue cheese wedge salad. Perfection. I cannot go there without ordering it My husband always gets a ribeye, Pittsburgh style, cooked medium. He is a medium rare guy for every other cut of beef except a Pittsburgh style ribeye. It is always cooked perfectly. He has to have the fries for his side and it is a basket big enough for the entire table. Sides that we have enjoyed are the angel hair Alfredo, sautéed mushrooms and roasted asparagus. Each time we go I say I'm going to order something different but every time I order the tenderloin tips. I've recently decided to get off sugar for a while, so I did not enjoy dessert this time, but our friends got the cashew chocolate pie, which I have eaten before and it is decadent Ely's does put a dent in your pocketbook, but it is worth every dime. My husband and I decided to do an early Valentine's date tonight for my first time eating here. The service was 10/10. Our server Brandon was very polite and very informative of The menu. This was a super cool and unexpectedly unique experience on our trip to Jackson! Firstly, very calm, subdued beautifully decorated restaurant! Staff seemed super friendly and my Mother-In-Law loved that there was a "no hats indoors" (not sure of the specific verbiage) sign on the front door. I got some fries that turned out to be ALL the fries. Everywhere. There is now a national fry shortage because of the mountain of delicious fries that were depositied on our table! These are a must. The tenderloin tips were stellar! So earthy with the mushrooms and other veggies! I am not sure if I would want to recommend anything else. Came here for a celebratory dinner for the first time and LOVED! It so we came back for a second time. Service is great as well as the food choices. I like how once you order appetizers the waiters give you enough time to eat and enjoy them before coming to get your entree orders. All entrees come with a nice sized salad and some soft warm rolls for the table. If you're in the mood for steak and seafood make sure to get the filet Louisian which come with 3 luscious shrimp on top and some homemade chips and the Cajun butter sauce. The crab cakes are also really tasty with lots of lump crab to taste through and through. As far as the sides we enjoyed the peppered grits, fries (good enough for the whole table of 5 and still had leftovers), scallops were amazing, the Mac was ok, and a side of broccoli. Last night we visited Ely's for the first time for our weekly "Date Night". I'm very glad we decided to give it a try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was excellent. It was very relaxing, but with an upscale, elegant feel[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The service was impeccable. Our server was terrific, but what really stood out to me was that the Manager delivered our Appetizer, then came by the table to check on us mid-meal. I am always pleased to see a Manager out in the front of house, assisting the wait staff and interacting with the customers. As for the food? Outstanding! The Baked Kibbeh was unique and delicious. I am very picky about my cocktails, and my Martini was delivered EXACTLY as ordered ("very cold and very dirty") and was one of the best I've had. Our entrees were delicious. Overall, Ely's was simply an excellent, relaxing, and enjoyable dining experience. My only regret is that we did not save room for dessert. My second time dining at Ely's. It's becoming a staple for my friend's birthday and 2022 was no different. Seated promptly once we arrived for our 5:45pm reservations. Joel, our server, greeted us swiftly to take our drink order. He was extremely professional and nice and took very good care of us. For me, service is always first on my list of what makes me happy during any dining experience and Ely's excels in customer service. Once your food is delivered to your table, the manager comes by to greet and check on you. Their service level is top notch! I ordered the sweet chili glazed salmon, and subbed the house salad for a spinach salad. The salmon, ordered medium, was melt in my mouth good. The accompanying broccoli was seasoned well. Just wish I had a little more of it. I hate I subbed for the spinach salad, as the dressing had no flavor. I remember the house salad being good but I usually love spinach salad and made the substitution. Will stick with the house salad next time. I ordered a slice of sea salt and caramel cheesecake to take home. Can't wait to dive into that! Ely's is a dining experience everyone should enjoy regularly. read more

My final meal at Ely's was memorable, in an unfortunate way. Following a delicious meal, with excellent service by the waitress, a colleague and I were finishing our glasses of wine, when a staff member interrupted and asked us to leave or go to the bar. Other guests had been there longer. The only thing that set us apart was that we were the only Black patrons in the dining area. Neither of us had experienced this before, and we were both surprised and offended. When asked why he chose to confront us instead of others who had been there as long, the staff person commented how nicely he treated an elderly Black woman who had been there previously, after she explained why she took so long. Unfortunately, his response says it all. We'll gladly take your money, but for people like you, take out is preferred. read more

We flew home to come to the hubby's class reunion, and came to Ely's on a Wednesday evening, at 7:30, later than normal to catch up with an old friend. There wasn't a flaw in any part of our experience. We live in NC, and being MS good food spoiled folks, we're very homesick for properly (and it was ALL on point) prepared seafood. We started with the fried crab claws - perfection with an amazing remoulade sauce and cocktail sauce. Dinner was a perfect wedge salad and their brilliant redfish. Everything tasted as I would imagine it while being homesick for the foods from home. Our server was amazing and knowledgeable, and the service was perfect. My apologies, but I have no food pics because my husband and I inhaled everything immediately upon receiving. We recently came here for my birthday and were impressed by the quality of the food. No hyperbole, but I enjoyed one of the best-prepared steaks I've ever had. And that's saying a lot because we're originally from Vegas; there's no shortage of excellent steak houses there. We started with a glass of perfect German Riesling (Dr. L) for me and an Old Soul whisky for him. We shared the night's half dozen fried oysters, which were well-seasoned and non-greasy. I had the steak Lorraine, an 8-oz filet that had a perfect bark outside and was meltingly tender inside. I ordered it medium and it was perfectly medium. My husband enjoyed a blackened seared yellowfish tuna, rare. Both entrees came with a salad. My only quibble: the tabouleh was dry and barely had parsley. We also shared steak frites; be warned: the order size is huge! Perfectly executed, served with an addictive blue cheese sauce. And because it was my birthday, I indulged in the cashew-chocolate pie. My other quibble: the server should ask whether there's a preference for it to be reheated. It was microwaved and I think reheating it at such a high temperature ruined it. I did, however, love the pie crust: very flaky! All in all, this was a great dining experience. I'm just sad that it took so long for us to try it. We'll definitely be back. read more

Tonight we celebrated our 25th at one of our favorite restaurants. The fine folks @elysrestaurant treated us well tonight. Richard has a fine staff and runs a very efficient restaurant. Chris the GM is a gracious host. Spencer did a fabulous job as a server. The fellas in the back, old man, short man, sleepy and the king salad maker (I cant reveal my true nicknames for my fellas, it's an R version) put our an absolutely fine meal. Started with crab claws, we have eaten them from the coast to New Orleans and by far these are our favorites. We each had a salad, she had the famous elys spinach salad and I had the wedge. I recently went to Ely's for the first time with some friends. Everything from the atmosphere, decor, waiters, bar, the way the reservation is made to the delicious food basically say top notch quality. I got the Blackfish with the Peppered Cheese Grits. Oi! So much salt!!!!! Service was friendly. I did not send food back or complain because I am starting to think this is the norm in small-town steakhouses. (Wish it wasn't). I have to balance GF with healthy choices since I am traveling for work and eating out a lot. So by ordering a la carte scallops, asparagus, and potatoes, I hoped I was being wise. The sear on the scallops was truly beautiful and perfectly cooked. This was a pleasant surprise since the appetizer crab claws came well-done and a bit chewy/drenched in a puddle of butter. Downside to scallops was the smack in the face of salt. Couldn't scrape it off. Glad there were only two. I don't make many complaints when I'm out on business, but when my colleague mentioned her shrimp on the steak dish were over-seasoned I started to think it wasn't just my perspective. Again, I respect that deep southerners like their salt and butter. So if that's your usual diner, important to know your audience. Next time I'll ask for no salt. Appreciate the accommodation of half glass wine pour for us lighter drinkers. But wished for more sophisticated by the glass options. The big Napa blend was complex and a half-glass offered a nice experience while awaiting dessert. Rose was just ok. If you have the clientele to justify it locally, perhaps some more cultured bubbles are in order? A smooth rose cremant? Wine list should be choices I can't get at Kroger. Perhaps Jackson isn't ready for that yet? Dessert was amazing, flourless chocolate cake saved the night, served warm, fluffy, and smooth. Sins of salt were forgiven, but not enough for more stars. To compete with bigger food scenes, may I politely recommend a lighter hand on the fire for seafood and a lighter hand on the salt container in general. Ambiance and service great.
